MG, great info for beginners as well as the more experienced music creators. Sooner or later, we all learn that music in itself is a revolving door and there is nothing new under the 🌞. Some folks believe that this new wave of Lo-fi is actually a means to bringing hip hop heads back to the basics of the culture itself and its authenticity (some refer to it as modern-day boom bap). Whatever the case may be, the key is to always be a student, willing to respect the foundational elements while simultaneously evolving and creating one's own lane as a music creator in whatever genre one prefers to dabble in. Thanks again MG for always paying homage to the past and preparing us for the future🙏
Thx MG dope vid. I stopped making beats for a while and now I find myself doing a lot of research b4 getting back into it. Your channel helps me out a lot
great video read my mind of where i am and how i am lost trying to put the puzzle to gether with no musical knowledge started in 2003 and i am learning more now than in the last 10 plus years of audio school
Your videos are so .... true and warm. Wow. It's like you're sitting in the room with every watcher and just speak. Honest speaking about your craft and making beats. No lie, no duplicity or something like that. I think it's because of you as person. I founded your channel after mention at some OverlorBeats's video (ruclips.net/user/OverlorBeats). Didn't know about your before (my bad), cause I wasn't really rely to Hip-hop. I started to interested of it likely 5-6 years ago. And I am a huge sample based oldschool boom-bap/lo-fi hip-hop fan. So your videos are treasure. And you're dope. Stay true, be in a good health, and have an unlimited inspiration and dopest samples. Peace!
Pure gems were dropped in this episode and I cannot remember the last time I heard Marrs Music being mentioned so that was a real flashback! Lately I have been seeing more videos that are about the gear used decades ago and there are sound packs of that era of gear. If it would have been too high to afford as hardware but now irresistible as legitimate sound samples made for the DAWs and other VSTs and AUs owned and used, take my money as I run into the street like it is an ice cream truck lol:) It is a more productive way to spend our time, energy, and money than any vice may ever offer! I really like the way this video reminds us TO ACTUALLY USE what we download and not to spend too much time in accumulating gear and samples for wars that we never fight and songs never finished. A part of the depression that creatives face might be the result of such addictions. 👏🏾👏🏾🏆🏆
MG The Future Creating predetermined seasons to stock pile is pure genius within itself! I’m going to personally implement the idea and August would be my next month to add new gear and sounds. Between the Korg M1 sounds and a few other retro synths recently found, there is enough to keep me away from any window shopping until Black Friday. Understanding how to choose different textures of old and new better is my new challenge.
Im in a similar boat. I have this SP and ST for the old school hiphop - but I'm still leaning towards an old MPC for some reason. I feel like i gotta do that next to complete my cypher of knowledge.
MG The Future Perhaps we are taking the elective courses unaware lol 😂 I tickled myself this week when I realized that I really do not know what the acronym MPC stands for even though I have known about them forever rofl:) We laugh at people who think of Xeroxing or Googling something as the definition while totally ignoring that I think of the MPC in the same way lol:) If it wasn’t for the MPC, we would never have Maschine and a lot of Native Instruments and other software and hardware were developed to make the features of the MPC more accessible to the street as possible. Now here we are with the world carrying music studios on themselves everyday and don’t even know it. It is the definition of insanity because music is the medicine that everyone is looking for to trigger the pain relief in every other aspect of life. Thanks for drumming #staywoke into our minds every chance you get! When you brought out the strumming aspects in Instachord and Strum separately and together days ago, something clicked for me in a retro futuristic kind of way so I am going to marinate in that space until I see something break or the bag becomes too greasy rofl 🤣
Mars music! I used to work at Mars music in Arlington Tx. That's how I got my first copy of Reason. in 2001 I was going to buy an mpc 1000 and a Korg Triton The rep for m-audio who was distributing propellerhead at the time gave Reason to me for free and told me to use it for a couple months before I bought anything. I ended being an early convert because of that.
Hi MG. Another dope discussion (more like knowledge drop) here. Thanks for the info. Lot's of dope avenues to explore here. One of the many things I took from this video is to stay focused while exploring these, and not get dragged down the rabbit hole of just downloading, and actually utilize these opportunities. Also, I think it should be a staple now (at least that's what I'm trying to do), to chop, screw, reshuffle, scale-remix, transpose, mangle, layer, wavetable-up, etc. samples obtained from the more known and popular sample providers.
Thats true - make sure you dig to use, and not dig to dig. I have many man hours just "Waiting" for things to download...and never using it when it does
Bro, I swear. These past 3 weeks you've revived my respect for the art and being resourceful. I find myself coming back because we relate on many levels. Just saw the "oak clap" video a few days ago. Thanks for the music theory and respect for the art form. However, I'm looking to incorporate semitones with the pitch wheel in FL. If you have ground knowledge, that would be helpful. Thanks for the work you're doing brother.
MG The Future most definitely, I'm having trouble with the theory part in changing the pitch percentage to match a "semitone" approach. Thought about an abelton remedy but can't shake matching tones with anything I use. Nonetheless, I owe you big time on the Kanye circle of fifths video.
MG The Future ahh you might be right LMAO bruh you have any recommendations? I have the waves stuff. They incorporate it. Any idea how to use it without latency. Notice I'm trying to push a new video idea lol.
Thanks for sharing the Reddit-DrumKit Subreddit. After many years of downloading from the site I have started my free kits - check out the Blaze 7 Trap Rock Drum Kit - I saw it when you scrolled down the page in this video.
Really liked the raw playlist that u mentioned.... I'd been referring but hadnt thought to do that, so I appreciate that and the rest of the vid!! Lastly, what's in that jokes folder? I like jokes. 😊
I'm reading the comments, your helping alot of producers, good work MG! You made a video about three platinum hits in 15 min with samples...lol,now your helping producers find samples and recommending it. Do you think there a middle ground?
You may misunderstand the nuance of the 15 min vid...as i never went back to explain it. It was a critical piece...about people in the industry stealing samples in my tutorials. In particular...struggle producers who dont sample nornally. What im saying here is how i came up...and evolved from this to the midi tools
Whoa man, keep it hush about Soulseek! It's pretty much the only way to get a lot stuff nowadays. Good luck getting seeds on torrents for obscure music anymore...
Ah, with posting sampled music? Yeah - its tricky - some people get away with it - others get banned. No time to figure out the logistics...be good or be good at it

I agree...its an inside job for the culture...that's exactly why i grabbed it up

I agree - Just get to action...and setup "seasons" to stock pile.

My school friend got reason, when i got the Ejay and FL studio. So we kinda taught each other both at the same time during that year as well.

No problem 🙏 most times my fl doesn’t map the mod wheel...so I’ve used it mainly with just a mouse. I used my midi controllers with other DAWs etc

The pitch of samples? Get a pitch shifter plugin
MG The Future ahh you might be right LMAO bruh you have any recommendations? I have the waves stuff. They incorporate it. Any idea how to use it without latency. Notice I'm trying to push a new video idea lol.
Ive used pitch shifter in older lofi vids
Man dropping major knowledge

Keep up the great content I see 100k by the end of the year!
Man, i appreciate that! I hope so too

Ah, with posting sampled music? Yeah - its tricky - some people get away with it - others get banned. No time to figure out the logistics...be good or be good at it
