Sadly, the the reality is that the love didn't last very long. Almost from the beginning of Denver's marriage to Annie he was involved in incessant affairs. After years of that she finally divorced him.
That is, and always will be, one of the greatest love songs of all time from my favorite musician of all time. Once belittled by the music industry, John has had the last laugh. Finally he is getting the respect he deserves from the newest reactors, from this generation, and I couldn't be happier that the young people of today are realizing the timeless songwriting and singing of John Denver. RIP John, you are truly missed!
I'm crying! Because we lost a true artist when John passed. Your reaction and comments were wonderful! He was a naturalist, love for this planet and the people! I was on vacation in Aspen and visited his memorial garden. So tranquil and simplistic. His quotes were etched into large rocks throughout the garden. Some people just lying in the grass. Some lying on blankets. Some with their dogs! Just being still and enjoying nature! Thank you so much for sharing!!! Love from Texas!
"Annie's Song" is one of John Denver's very best songs. It was written for his first wife, Annie. As Momma Gap would say, "Beautiful Love Song". Surprising, this is not Annie's favorite John Denver song. In an interview, she admitted that her favorite John Denver song is "Perhaps Love". You should react to that song next. You'll love it.
Ironically both songs use a comparison between love and the ocean, albeit in different ways - with Perhaps Love delving into a greater, less romantic, more wholistic appraisal of love. That being said it was made to be performed with Placido Domingo as it is on the studio track, I don't think it could sound right live.
The song was written for his 1st wife as pretty much everybody as said. John & Annie divorced because “too young & fame came too fast for them to handle it” or “being on the road pulled them apart” according to them. John’s 2nd marriage was a short-lived disaster despite the the fact that it produced a child (John’s 3rd child- the other 2 were adoptees with Annie).
John Denver wrote this song to his wife Annie after the couple had had an argument. They lived in Aspen Colorado and John went skiing after the argument to cool off. The song was written by John while he was on the ski lift and he sang it to her when he returned home. This is the story that Annie told on a show about John Denver"s life and career.
John Denver's ex-wife, Annie was from Minnesota and her parents owned a restaurant near where I went to college. I went there for a sorority event with a girl who invited me. About storms in the desert; while they may be dangerous (flash flooding, etc.) while they happen, the desert blooms beautifully after the storm.
Ha ha, he says after the interlude "sing with me" and not a peep from anyone. They just want to hear his golden voice. I've heard this song a thousand times and it's one if the few songs I won't sing with just to hear his voice and passion for his wife Annie. What a loss when he left us. The angels gather around in heaven to listen to JD sing. RIP.
I believe that the story goes that he wrote this song for Annie after they had a major argument and he was on a ski lift in Aspen. He wrote this in about 10 minutes.
A symphony to the Love and the nature by a man who took pleasure in what God gave. He was close to the natives. My greatest respect for his life's work. I am so sad that He was called home to the Creator on the way to His loved ones. RIP John Denver , fly high with the Eagles over your Loved Mountains
I first heard this as a teenager. I built my dreams around finding a woman that could evoke the emotion in me that he pours into this song. It destroyed me when I read about his divorce. I thought after these lyrics and those to "Annie's Other Song", if they can't make it what chance do I have.
❤❤❤ This is my favorite waltz. John wrote this for Annie after they had a fight to win her back. It worked for a while, and then she remembered why they didn't always get along. Sad. LEAVING ON A JET PLANE, made famous by Peter Paul and Mary, is my next favorite. Thanks for listening.
The ONLY concert I've ever been is John Denver in 1992? in Boise, Idaho. Wow! 3 hrs easy with the Hell's Canyon quartet (classical quartet) playing in the interlude. He chatted us up during the breaks!
Listen to Denver's song 'For You' and I will think you will find it right up there with all time love songs. Can't understand why it never received widespread acclaim like 'Annie's Song'
John also sang Annies Song in about 7 or 8 other languages, in the countries he was performing in. Including Russian, Spanish, Japanese, Welsh, and I've forgotten the others. Amazingly talented and connected person.
I saw John Denver in concert at the old New Haven Collesium in Connecticut he was special. He wrote a second love song called FOR YOU which is also special
A beautiful song written by John, and beautifully sung, that always makes me cry. I lost the love of my life to cancer 15 years ago (we were married 23 years), and this song always makes me think of her, because that's how I felt about her.
John Denver kept country music alive all through the 70/80s on his own and it took over a decade later before he got the recognition by being put in the Country Musics hall of fame .
Another song I highly suggest is "Calypso". It's about Jaques Couteau's exploration ship. They had a tight bond through wildlife conservation. Jaques also custom made a diving mask for John with eyeglass lenses so he could see better while diving.
This was at the Wildlife Concert. The last concert he did before his tragic death. I never knew sitting at this concert that it would be the last time to see him sing live.... R. I. P. John 🌹🌹🌹
In my opinion, this is one of the most beautiful, love songs ever written right up there with how deep is your love by my favorite group, the Bee Gees :-) this is a beautiful, beautiful love song :-)
John Denver was a singer-songwriter & actor. He had so many great hits in the 70's-80's. Some of his signature songs were "Rocky Mountain High", "Poems, Prayers & Promises", "Calypso", "Thank God I'm A Country Boy", "Sunshine On My Shoulders", "Grandma's Feather Bed" etc. John appeared in several films & television specials during the 70's-80's, including the 1977 hit "Oh, God!", in which he starred alongside George Burns. Please react to Home Free's version of "Take Me Home Country Roads". It is one of the best covers of this song. They also do a fun version of "Thank God I'm A Country Boy".
Another great reaction!!! John Denver has the best vibrato in the business. It's AMAZING. To be able to fill up someone elses senses is a goal for all to meet. Beautiful!!!
The only say I had in organising our wedding was I could pick the song for our first dance as a married couple at the reception and this was it RIP John.
I love most John Denver songs, but this is by far my favorite. I agree with what many have said before in that he sings, what most of us wish we could say to those we care about. Good job ladies.
John Denver’s wife Annie was from St. Peter, Mn. my birthplace & literally just down the Highway from where we live. I just love his (distinctive) voice….💗 I’m getting chill bumps listening to this song again!!!
Got to see him live two times, and he sounded perfect. And when the band took a break, he stayed and continued the show , just him and his guitar. He was so azmazing!
It has almost a wedding march rhythm. Not uncommon for love songs. Great song. The12 string guitar and mandolin blend perfectly. Storm clouds can be amazingly beautiful in the desert and out west in the high country. RIP.
It always amazes me whenever I hear this song just how much would you have to love someone to be able to have the depth of feeling to write the lyrics to this song. My wife and I specified that his song "Follow Me" be sung at our wedding.
My brother on the guitar and me and my sister singing. My mom 50 years old (named Annie). First time I've ever seen her cry. At the end of the evening whole the rest of the familias on stage (my uncles and aunts used to be rabbits so quite a lot of us). Brilliant magical time. MIss them all (except my little brother :)
I saw John Denver in concert at Arizona State University in 1977; No Smoking Of ANY KIND was one of the first things he said to the audience. It was still a great concert.
Interesting how Denvers live performances are no different in tone , or quality , as his in studio sound ....Very unusual .....Always a fen of John Denver ..
You two need to react to his song Calypso. It is a tribute to Jacques Cousteau's and his ship Calypso. He had a show back in the 70's The Undersea World of Jaques Cousteau. Before there was the Discovery Channel, we old folks had this.
John is my most favorite singer! He wrote so many great songs! My 2 favorite songs are "Poems, Prayers, and Promises" (check out the one from the Wildlife Concert or An Evening with John Denver album) and "Follow Me."
I saw him in the round in 1981 in college. He did several songs with just him and his 12 string ! Magic! I loved “perhaps love “ and “some days are diamonds “ also
A beautiful song which was the opening song of my wedding reception, plenty of tears there especially from my mum and mother-in-law, brilliant. Keep up the good work ladies x
Thanks for this reaction to the truly great, one in million John Denver. One of his most beautiful songs and your reactions and the memories it evoked were priceless. What a great channel.
Another great love song from this era is the Carpenters’ We’ve Only Just Begun. It was our wedding song, soon to be 52 years ago. It’s simply marvelous.
I love you two and your reactions. I love how you hear beautiful music with your hearts esp babygap. Annies song is so so good and i feel so emotional when i hear it, 💕
Annie's song is a great song and great for others to use in their lives because it has meaning to others besides what happened to their marriage. Watch the movie and you will be shocked to hear why the song was written. Still a great song.
Thanks! Out-of-the-Box Talent that will never be equaled, Sir just had one too many Demons. Have you heard his song "Calypso", Jacques Cousteau and his research team on the Calypso invited John Denver out an excursion and John, in appreciation put his talented Writing Skills to test, came up with MY Favorite John Denver Song. *- Me after seriously trying a romantic type locker opening (You have No idea how much courage I had to dig way down and find just to do this), what I thought was a nice photo card of Roses just hanging there, approaching her locker between classes, she jumped out and closed the locker door, looked up, saw me grinning and then punched me in the chest as hard as she could muster, stomping off mumbling something about staying out of her business. ????????????
Ladies, a beautiful reaction to a beautiful song which I memorized and have known since John Denver first released it! And, wow, there was just something about the flute in the background that just "got me"! Thank you both! I enjoy your reactions and interactions with one another so very much! Merry Christmas from Georgia!
I love John Denver, my mum is a massive fan too, her favourite is Sunshine on my Shoulders…absolutely beautiful. My favourite is his performance of For You from the wildlife concert. Momma gap…this is a “beautiful love song” with such romantic lyrics and an incredible vocal too ..one you definitely have to check out 😊 Baby gap…you said it doesn’t get any more romantic than Annie’s song but you haven’t heard For You..the lyrics to this for me are the ultimate in a love song and speak of total unconditional love and devotion..in my opinion, possibly and probably the best love song ever written. it would be interesting to see which you think is the more romantic of the two😊. Johns beautiful voice and soul is badly missed.
Beautiful song and reaction. When you describe it as 'easy listening', it is implied that certain other music is not easy listening. Which way would I want to go? How Can I Leave You Again is another one of his later songs that I think you would like. It came out shortly after I finished college.
One of the greatest love songs ever written. So many amazing lines
Sadly, the the reality is that the love didn't last very long. Almost from the beginning of Denver's marriage to Annie he was involved in incessant affairs. After years of that she finally divorced him.
Nah. THE best.
Written for his wife Annie and it was lovingly played at his daughters wedding. He had long since passed but his song made him present.
A perfect love song by John. He is missed. 😢
His voice sooooaars.. !!
he wrote the song in 10 minutes on a ski lift for his wife.
Maybe, just maybe, the most heartfelt song ever written -
That is, and always will be, one of the greatest love songs of all time from my favorite musician of all time. Once belittled by the music industry, John has had the last laugh. Finally he is getting the respect he deserves from the newest reactors, from this generation, and I couldn't be happier that the young people of today are realizing the timeless songwriting and singing of John Denver. Beautiful !!
Now you have to play the beautiful song “For You “
The orchestral arrangement of this song has always impressed me.
Great idea Stephen!
That is a great recommendation. It's another amazing song by him.
"Perhaps Love" is my favorite song of his as well. Never a big hit, but great art is not always commercial.
Ironically both songs use a comparison between love and the ocean, albeit in different ways - with Perhaps Love delving into a greater, less romantic, more wholistic appraisal of love.
That being said it was made to be performed with Placido Domingo as it is on the studio track, I don't think it could sound right live.
@@llanitedave Point of fact the greatest art is seldom truly commercial, or 'pop' in the music sense.
The song was written for his 1st wife as pretty much everybody as said. 25 Years Without John In The World 💔😭 GBNF We Miss You Beyond Words John
John Denver could not be more missed!!! Such a one and only!!
Well said. Such a gorgeous voice and singular song writer. I wish he were still here.
Sent this song to my sweetheart, she loves it.
This song is the biggest hit in Scotland 🏴 people just loved it
John always says what many of us cant
The greatest love song ever made. And John was an amazing singer.RIP John🌹❤️❤️❤️…!!!
"The man with the golden voice" that says it all.
I saw him in 1978. It was the best concert musically I ever saw.

The angels gather around in heaven to listen to JD sing. RIP.
Actually we did sing along. He was using a highly directional mic so the audience singing was suppressed.
I believe that the story goes that he wrote this song for Annie after they had a major argument and he was on a ski lift in Aspen. He wrote this in about 10 minutes.
Amsterdam, Calypso, Sunshine on my shoulders
A symphony to the Love and the nature by a man who took pleasure in what God gave.
He was close to the natives.
My greatest respect for his life's work.
I am so sad that He was called home to the Creator on the way to His loved ones.
RIP John Denver , fly high with the Eagles over your Loved Mountains
The fact is he wrote this while on the chairlift at a ski mountain in aspen… enough said guys a legend

I feelt It to back in the days😢.
His first wife Annie has helped to commerate John's life & songs by making a Park in Colorado where you can see & hear songs done by John.
The Wildlife Concert is absolutely amazing. I can watch it over and over again. Miss John tremendously!
The great great John Denver. What a great voice, amazing songwriter and fantastic guitarist. The man had it all.
LOVE John Denver !!
My wife's favorite JD song. I think we saw him about six times in concert.
Like a storm in the desert ...what a line
The best concert I ever went to, 3 hours straight and he never took a break. The band took 4 breaks while John just sat , played and talked.
The ONLY concert I've ever been is John Denver in 1992? in Boise, Idaho. Wow! 3 hrs easy with the Hell's Canyon quartet (classical quartet) playing in the interlude. He chatted us up during the breaks!
Singing beautifully while playing a 12 string guitar. Talented guy. A lot more than he gets credit for.
Listen to Denver's song 'For You' and I will think you will find it right up there with all time love songs. Can't understand why it never received widespread acclaim like 'Annie's Song'
There is a video of an open-air concert he gave in Ireland. When he got to this song, he sang it in Gaelic from memory.
John also sang Annies Song in about 7 or 8 other languages, in the countries he was performing in. Including Russian, Spanish, Japanese, Welsh, and I've forgotten the others. Amazingly talented and connected person.
Brilliant singer/songwriter .... such a sad loss.
Hell, yeah!!!
Im HEAVY METAL but my MOM listened to him.
I remember the album cover.
Him holding his hat n glasses.
He rocked!!!
REST IN HEAVEN, J.D.
The best way to enjoy John Denver is to get all his albums sit back and enjoy
I saw John Denver in concert at the old New Haven Collesium in Connecticut he was special. He wrote a second love song called FOR YOU which is also special
LET ME DIE IN YOUR ARMS Said it all to me. This was my wedding song with my wife a long time ago now.
John's voice was perfect, whether live or not! A master singer. R.I.P.
Another song I highly suggest is "Calypso". It's about Jaques Couteau's exploration ship. They had a tight bond through wildlife conservation. Jaques also custom made a diving mask for John with eyeglass lenses so he could see better while diving.
To me this is his best song. Very underated.
Not only my favorite song, it also shows his vocal ability more than any other song.
This was at the Wildlife Concert. The last concert he did before his tragic death. I never knew sitting at this concert that it would be the last time to see him sing live.... R. I. P. John 🌹🌹🌹
Funny how the most beautiful love songs were written/sung by those truly in love.
Tears in my eyes :(
Great song.
In my opinion, this is one of the most beautiful, love songs ever written right up there with how deep is your love by my favorite group, the Bee Gees :-) this is a beautiful, beautiful love song :-)
If you think this is a beautiful love song then you MUST listen to another song from this live performance called “For You “ It’s just incredible 😄👍
To me, the greatest love song ever. Was not our 1st dance, but was played at our reception 3 times people requested it over & over. Just gorgeous.

Absolutely beautiful song! Another artist gone to soon
John Denver was an amazing entertainer, I wonder if he ever thought of Annie his ex wife, when he performed this song

John is my most favorite singer! He wrote so many great songs! My 2 favorite songs are "Poems, Prayers, and Promises" (check out the one from the Wildlife Concert or An Evening with John Denver album) and "Follow Me."
Very glad this was unblocked by RUclips! I had seen it on Patreon. Beautiful song that John Denver wrote about hi first wife.
His version of O HOLY NIGHT is wonderful. He wrote Annie's song on a ski lift.
The whole album that this video is from is one if his very best.
I saw him twice. Once with a full orchestra and Once, just him and his career. Far Out. I wanted to marry him in the 80's.
Always loved this song. Plus that entire concert is amazing.
Beautiful touching song and really enjoyed your reaction , peace and blessings to you : )
I was lucky enough to see him in concert in 1982. One of, if not the best concert I've ever seen
If songs were looks this song is stunning.
I saw him in the round in 1981 in college. He did several songs with just him and his 12 string ! Magic! I loved “perhaps love “ and “some days are diamonds “ also
Thank you for another awesome reaction send your both all love and Support i wish you both a wonderfull christmas 🥰💝👌

My mother walked down the aisle to this when she married my dad. Her name is Anne 😉
Ladies, a beautiful reaction to a beautiful song which I memorized and have known since John Denver first released it! And, wow, there was just something about the flute in the background that just "got me"! Thank you both! I enjoy your reactions and interactions with one another so very much! Merry Christmas from Georgia!
Thank you John! Merry Christmas to you and your family
I love john Denver please react to sunshine on my shoulders
I love John Denver, my mum is a massive fan too, her favourite is Sunshine on my Shoulders…absolutely beautiful. My favourite is his performance of For You from the wildlife concert. Love this song and I love John Denver, If you are looking for John Denver songs you should try Home Free's Take me home country roads.
`ive always said this is the one song i wish i had written
Beautiful song and reaction. When you describe it as 'easy listening', it is implied that certain other music is not easy listening. Which way would I want to go? How Can I Leave You Again is another one of his later songs that I think you would like. It came out shortly after I finished college.
You should listen to the song "Amie" from tge Pure Praire Legue. But I love listening to John Denver also. I own about 6 albums from him.
Oh so beautiful. Loving your reactions. But if you want to hear the best of him (according to me) Try his duett with Olivia Newton-John: Fly away.
