@@BFHPET Turning it off is "Virus style". When ANA is turned on, the oscillator phase is free running, like in analog synths. When ANA is turned off, the oscillator phase starts at a random position, like in the Virus.
@@BFHPET Analog oscillators are always free running (if you think about it... current is always flowing). Only digital oscillators can have random phase. It's kind of "the poor man's imitation of free running phase". 😉 (Saves CPU as well, when the synth produces no sound) I think some digital synths have a smart algorithm to avoid starting randomly at the same phase position, to avoid phasing.
Very similar sounds indeed.Virus does not sound thin with fully opened filter like Spire.Amp envelope has no sustain on Spire and Virus has. Interesting.
Spire is unfortunately a quite weak sounding synth. Spire is excellent for ambient/atmospheric pads, but outside of that realm I hardly have any use for it. I've tried many synths, including some of the Waldorf and Nord Lead emulators. Nothing matches the warm, deep and clean sound of the Virus. Still very happy I bought one.
I don't like the way Spire's Shaper section sounds. Like rough dirty clipping. With the Virus, due to saturation, it is possible to make an analog pulse from the sinus, but on the Spire it is not. The only thing is that Spire does not have such aliasing at high frequencies and the oscillators are not band-limited.
The Virus does indeed sound very "velvety" compared to VSTs, also a lot fuller imo. VSTs have a similar sound character to the Virus, they're digital after all. But it is in the details where the Virus outshines VSTs imo.
This is only a fair comparison if your Access virus is running smoothly. Mine is buggy AF and I spend more time trying to get it to work correctly than actually using it . Any alternative is better, the virus is a NIGHTMARE in Cubase pro.
What kind of bugs do you have? The only major bug I have come across is the Virus TI going out of sync if I automate the pitchbend (which I suspect to be an issue in FL Studio 20, might work better in FL Studio 12) and minor latency (which can be solved through bouncing). The Virus TI does sometimes continue to play a sound even if no midi data is sent to it, but holding down the Mono and Sync buttons will fix that. But other than that, the Virus TI works quite well on my end. Not perfect but I primarily use it live and not for typical music production. If you want alternatives, look into the DSP56300 emulator and Adam Szabo Viper (Windows only though).
The arpeg goes out of synch and any sound will just disintegrate after about five minutes and you constantly have to reload them. I have wasted too much of my life trying to get this machine to just……. Work properly as a TI. I think the TI was a half baked launch that is no longer supported.
Yeah, unfortunately the TI aspect of the Virus has never been fully functional and Access calling it "total integration" is misleading imo. The Virus control plugin is great for editing/creating patches and to use as a patch librarian. But for music production in a DAW, it has never been fully functional even from the start. There are workarounds, but that is not what people paid for.
@@ennayanne The issue with Ostirus is because it is a third party software, you don't own the rights to your music (or whatever content you wish to make with Ostirus) due to the ROM file being copyrighted. If you want to use it just for fun then it is a great option, but using it commercially could get you into legal trouble.
Nice! I'm glad you adjusted the Spire settings to match the behavior of the Virus e.g. ANA switch
is the ana swtich virus style?

Beautiful comparison. The Virus is a bit bigger and more three dimentional. Spire is still impressive tho💙
That melody alone with a beat and some fx is a guaranteed trance hit
Spire's "Infecto" mode imitates the Virus, but it has two poles.

I think Spire sounds warmer and has better filters and fx
The oscillators sounds almost the same to me, but the filters are quite different. The virus sounds "velvety"

It’s a great stand alone synth but the integration in to a DAW element is broken

I solved all the TI sync issues by using an spdif cable in addition to usb. I was also frustrated but at least it works now
do you need a physical virus ti to use it as a vst ?
Yes, if you want to use the official software you need a real Virus TI/TI2/Snow unit.
no you can use OsTIrus without it

@@EyezerProductionz Exactly. OP doesn't want the physical thing, they just want the software. No integration needed.

Just try Tone2 Icarus 3, it beats them all !! IMHO 😆
