Irony .. the highest valued Antique on a programme running 30 years is practically brand new
Not anymore
Irony, and ironically, no iron!
This comment is an antique now.
@@angusowen9863 you’re about 10 years late with that one mate
Its also a piece of junk. Made from scrap metal from a junk yard. What a bunch of tosch.
Rick on Pawn Stars: “best I can do is 20 bucks.”
Generous.
He'd offer scrap bronze price
after the expert says is value
@@don_kandon6006 facts
Rick is an idiot. That show is a farce.
"On the basis that this is half the size, I would value it at half the price."
I've got to say, I never knew art worked that way!
Dude is an idiot, it is half the height, but 1/8th the volume. Should only be valued at £250k.
lol yea he treated it like a math equation. One would think, the historical significance, the artist, the meaning, etc would have been most of the value of the 2M sale and thus this would be > 1M because it has all those things and is just half the size.
It’s called, he has no idea. I could be an expert too lol
Nobody knows how art works mate 😂 except that the more money you have and/or are trying to launder, the more "valuable" whatever it is you're trying to buy is
It is pretty much how galleries value paintings by "non-famous" artists, so it probably makes sense for two versions of the same work by the same artist (because the "fame factor" is going to be identical for both). I just wonder whether, with sculpture, you should base it on volume instead.
Pawn Stars: I can offer you $80, I'm taking all the risk here...
Damn. Just $80 with no sad handjob. brutal.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣for real tho
its gonna sit in the shop forever
Isch sag 80€ für den Prügel
...So true! They scam any chance they get.
It wasn't really an antique though. It was a council employee showing a council-owned artist's model of the statue. That's like doing the Roadshow at the Tower of London and giving a Yeoman Warder a valuation on the crown jewels and then saying: "Oh wow! That's the highest valuation we've ever had!".
Loool
They have a section where they do that in every antiques roadshow though, and flog it too, where they give an unasked for valuation of something that is pertinent to the locale
Good point!
Spot on. I guess these shows need content to keep everything going.
It's about as hyper inflated as bitcoin.
You know you got money when someone tells you the sculpture you brought in is worth a million quid and you're like "cool, bro"
Paul Graham It's not his, it belongs to the council - of which he is only a representative. He said that his father was a miner so I don't imagine that he's particularity wealthy.
Actually, he said "Amazing... absolutely amazing.".
Paul Graham the British, in general, tend to maintain composure more than, say, Americans
You must be American then...
He said amazing twice. For a Brit, that is the equivalent of running around giving high fives. Not everyone acts like a game show contestant all the time.
my Grandad took in a big metal box he found in the loft, they told him to put it back it was the water tank
Lol!!! :-)
"I'd value it at a million pounds"
"amazing 😐"
He knew its worth. He just wanted to show it off
And who can blame him, a great work of art.
Idk it’s kinda risky to move something so valuable around.
Like the vast majority of "shocked" owners of items!
@@Pwwh0711 I think sometimes it's geniune but other times I think they have an idea based on the known history/research/info from parents
My local scrapper valued it at $24.76
That's about what I'd pay for it if anything.
$25.00...do i hear $26.00?
No Neck I'll do $27 if you paint it black

Change your dealer, he's trying to fob you off with dollars in England.
Incredible sculpture. Clearly contemporary but reaching back in time. Love it
Yeah, I didn’t search for this and neither did you.
But hi there
Nor me. I just typed "Angel of the north antiques roadshow" into the little box at the top, and this just came up.
I prefer the ones where they are told that their "antiques" are nothing but shit and only worth a tenner.
I really didn't. Goodness knows why RUclips recommended it. I've never watched a RUclips clip of Antiques Roadshow. And this one's a cheat because the thing's not an antique.
Hi back to you to
No, but I was watching the Mad TV parodies...
1 million pounds. There. I saved you 3 minutes
Thank you. I almost fell asleep trying to watch this.
thanks
he means 1 million £
That's 50 trillion rupees.
MercyGraceLove I second that..lol my goodness enough already you know ugh
I am a working class southerner, from a working class family and heritage. I wish we had such an iconic statue on the hills of southern England. The Angel's body screams the toughness and engineering qualities of the northern working classes whilst those wings remind me of the hulls of the great ships emerging from the skills, blood, sweat and tears of the working people of The Tyne, The Wear, The Mersey, The Humber, The Clyde and The Thames as they grow east and west across the world carrying British engineering, produce and know how to a waiting world. As art goes I think AG has created the greatest modern British works since Sir Henry Moore and look how people scoffed at his work, now worth millions and unable to stay in their rural surrounds because people keep trying to nick them. I am so glad that the majority of Geordies and Mackems now love and cherish The Angel and say bollocks to the haters.
Well said.
Much better review vs what they described
@The Hierophant who hurt you bro?
@The Hierophant wasn't an insult but ok
Maybe the rolling southern countryside doesn't have rolling hills, but it has Stonehenge, Cerne Abbas, Glastonbury Tor, Maiden Castle, Silbury Hill, the Uffington White Horse, Salisbury Cathedral........the list goes on. I know which I would rather gaze on out of the Angel of the North and ANY of those I just mentioned. Be glad you have what you have. The North has many treasures like those too, the Angel is just the newest.
I always thought it’s nothing like an angel, more like half Egyptian mummy/half aeroplane.
exactly. the proportions are shit. If those wings were curved that at least would give it a feeling of life and inclusiveness. £12000 and I will make a nicer one in stainless... with bronze detail. The "Angel with a Parachute" will stun the art world wool pullers
Decided to bow to your insight " Nefertiti with a Parachute". Its gonna knock em dead
You’ve seen an angel?
And what does an angel look lkke. I'd bet you'd be surprised ... 4 wing, 6 wings, four faces ...
@@tonybazley5733 And what about and agel's "curved" wings give a feeling 8f "life" and "inclsiveness"?
'I would comfortably put it at a million...." but realistically the craigslist buyer never shows and you settle for $40.00 after a few days.
Hahahahaaaaa
So damn true !
Ugggh I bought a pair of timberland for $185 but after a day they weren't great for my line of work. Still in new condition
Gave em up for $70 because u finally got a response -_-
$40? That’s too much. I could buy one new for that price.
Why is something that big and ugly worth that much money.
British enthusiasm is absolutely 💯 👌 breathtaking
A Brit would rather die than be seen to be a drama queen.
@@prappsy3028 That's rather dramatic in itself though...
Lol
After listening to this for 3 minutes and 6 seconds... I still have no idea what the hell it is.
There is a statue in the north of the UK by one of the motorways called 'the angel of the north' - this was basically the sample they made before they built the real thing which the guy said is x20 bigger but I find that hard to believe. Must be a lot bigger than that.
@@lj7169 he said 20 meter high.
@@bogus69 No, he said 20 times bigger. But yes the real thing is 20 metres tall and this model looks about 1 metre.
He won't be driving back home with it poking out the sunroof after that valuation.

The Angel of the north is magnificent,I find it hard to believe anyone who's seen it doesn't love it....
There something beyond this earth about this Masterpiece. btw Michael the ArchAngel is a real being ( Chief Prince )the bible calls him read on :
Daniel 10New International Version (NIV)
Daniel’s Vision of a Man
10 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a revelation was given to Daniel (who was called Belteshazzar). Its message was true and it concerned a great war.[a] The understanding of the message came to him in a vision.
2 At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. 3 I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over.
4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river, the Tigris, 5 I looked up and there before me was a man dressed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. 6 His body was like topaz, his face like lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and his voice like the sound of a multitude.
7 I, Daniel, was the only one who saw the vision; those who were with me did not see it, but such terror overwhelmed them that they fled and hid themselves. 8 So I was left alone, gazing at this great vision; I had no strength left, my face turned deathly pale and I was helpless. 9 Then I heard him speaking, and as I listened to him, I fell into a deep sleep, my face to the ground.
10 A hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. 11 He said, “Daniel, you who are highly esteemed, consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling.
12 Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. 13 But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. 14 Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.”
15 While he was saying this to me, I bowed with my face toward the ground and was speechless. 16 Then one who looked like a man[b] touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and began to speak. I said to the one standing before me, “I am overcome with anguish because of the vision, my lord, and I feel very weak. 17 How can I, your servant, talk with you, my lord? My strength is gone and I can hardly breathe.”
18 Again the one who looked like a man touched me and gave me strength. 19 “Do not be afraid, you who are highly esteemed,” he said. “Peace! Be strong now; be strong.”
When he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Speak, my lord, since you have given me strength.”
20 So he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? Soon I will return to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I go, the prince of Greece will come; 21 but first I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth. (No one supports me against them except Michael, your prince.
Angels being real creatures created beings who serve God are another thorn in the Atheist argument i would say!
The Masterpiece above inspired me to share the truth about real angels it's good to know such beings exist which means God exists and the revelation from God is that Jesus Christ is their creator as shown in the passage below google it :D
Colossians 1:15-20
Paul O'Reilly is quoting some old book really sufficient proof? Because I read this book about some dude called Harry Potter that encountered a three-headed dog.

That's one bit of sculpture I actually like a lot
it's good isn't it? The full size one is really cool, it's massive and overlooking a motorway
I like a lot of Anthony Gormley's sculptures. They're always interesting without being too pretentious.
Newcastle is a great city. I love it.
It is and its people deserve better.
The Angel is sited in Gateshead, to the south of the River Tyne. Newcastle is on the north of the Tyne.
I'm off to B&Q tomorrow for a couple of sheets of bendy MDF and some brown paint.
The thumbnail for this made me think it was an android from the future.
I own nothing of huge value but I have been so blessed in my lifetime. I have a wonderful husband and five wonderful sons our home is a real home filled with love and laughter and my family photos are something I treasure. Life is not measured in the objects around you but by the love that surrounds you and the joy that brings.
Not on the Antiques Roadshow it isn't.
Couldn’t agree more ❤️✅
Amen!
But would it hurt to also have a million pounds???
I walk past this thing 20 times a day at work, standing alone in a neglected corner of Gateshead Civic
You're seeing it out of context, I think. I've seen the real thing so many times now and it still captivates me.
ANGEL OF THE NORTH IS JUST GORGEOUS!
why am i watching this
Thinking the same thing right now lmao
Because you're procrastinating....
It's about half the size. I value it at about half the price! Amazing.
Considering it's by the same author and has the same design, you can't argue with the criteria. It's just maths (though I wonder if he means half the height, half the area projection, or half the volume).
When we saw the original with our friends from Newcastle I was completely bowled over. Even gobsmacked. A must see on a bucket list. Thank you Bob and Christine.
Imagine sticking this guy up, give me your angel
Super piece of art, every time i see it I smile. What better piece of art could represent the northern people, Strong yet caring, powerful and individual. Strong folks us northerners.
Or if you look at it in the context of its placement over a coal mine: northerners are faceless industrial fodder.
I'm not a Geordie but have to admit when you see this sculpture when you are driving on the dual carriageway, well for me anyway its a real wow moment.
The most expensive antique I’ve seen was a jeweled Roman helmet on the American show that was worth a fortune, they even escorted the owner out with security guards.
I'll bet it was also the biggest Roman helmet ever seen... and probably the heaviest... did it have the largest number of jewels?
I guess that'll only be surpassed when they value something at "two fortunes".
"It's a beautiful object" Yes, tacking a long rectangle onto an armless mannequin. Brilliant.
That's modern art for you.
Just do the same.
Come with an original concept, and become famous.
No?
Thought so.
the real one looks pretty cool
@John Kochen and someone pays him generously to spew that bullshit. Be a professional bullshitter and make a living!
Jo Lil ok then do it
I'm going to start to reevaluate my own work after seeing this.
I just added 2 more zeros to my prices!
Now you’re doing it “art world “ style
Just poo on some a5 paper and smear it about. Frame the picture and you're now a professional artist congratulations.
The thumbnail had me thinking it was going to be a dark goth type of art
Personally I've always preferred the nickname "the gateshead flasher"

Another underrated comment
Hahaha... 3 years on...That's just never gonna get old is it ;)
That's gonna stick in my head now 🤣
The real Angel of the North is so magnificent in its setting.
Me: "So I can fit two jackets, two pair of pants and a hat on it, I'll give you 20 bucks."
this guy got the same wingspan as the people i sit next to on buses
It is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Personally, I would pay 50 to have it hauled away.
I’d pay 50$ to haul you away.
John Schmidt 😂🤣😂
TC Candler I saw its big brother when I visited Britain a number of years ago. It glowed a deep rust red against a blue October morning sky and for me instantly became one of the most beautiful sculptures in the world. I just had to take a closer look. When you stand under it it's even more impressive. For something so massive the fine crafting of the shape of the body is quite breathtaking. You should consider yourself lucky to have such a world class piece of art in your country.

I live in the city where the angel is near. It is pretty impressive. You can see by road rail and even by air if you know where to look.
Watching in 2022 and 1 million pounds buys you half a loaf of bread.
The Bagel of the North?
There's lots of people think this ( the big one ) is an eyesore , but I disagree , its not pretty but to me it represents the tough gritty workers in the north east , shipyards , coalmines , steel works , its hard as steel , big bold and just like the people !!! BRILLIANT.
Inside the guy was dancing in a carnival when he said ‘amazing.’
On the outside he looks like it wanted to kick the guys teeth in.
What, ONLY a million!?
I don't know if it was this particular one but one of the 12 produced in this size sold for 2.8 million pounds in 2018.
no accounting for taste in art..1 persons beautiful is anothers hideous

My favourite ARS moment was when the expert says "there are only two known examples of a [vase] by [artist] in existence ... there are now three."
Which oddly reduces their value as the more there are the less their worth .
@@keithrobinson5752 True enough. However, the thing in question was so rare and (almost) unique that the expert know exactly where they were, who owned them, etc. It was a piece of silverware, if memory serves, but made by some famous smith who almost never worked in silver or never made vases or something strange. That's what made it so unusual and collectable.

I was 9 when the angel got put up. I never liked it. I think it's awful still even 23 years on. I can't imagine that thing being worth a million pounds. I fail to see how the original angel cost £800,000 to be built and put up.
Brits never get excited...oh bloody hell...LOVE IT!
So he was given this a gift by an artist so he'd approve the artists contract - that sounds corrupt as anything.
It belongs to the council, not him, it was made as a concept design to present to the council. He is a councillor who, in this case, is representing the council for the sake of the programme.
Rather apropos that the modern interpretation of an angel is basically a giant billboard with a head.
It made me think of Pinhead from Hellraiser. Disturbing.
Antiques Roadshow, but make it social distancing
I remember seeing the actual angel in person years ago and thinking it looked like a half finished piece of crap. Now seeing this, i can't help but resent myself for not having the capacity to appreciate it at the time. It's such a shame that so many people go their whole lives being unable to enjoy art.

Dude, context is everything when discussing art historical objects.
@Puff of Smoke your attitude is the cause of shitty telly
Sure the history can be of interest but when you click on a video titled 'Antiques Roadshow's Highest Valuation Ever' you probably just want to know HOW MUCH? Rumour has it, there's an actual mummy without arms inside that sculpture
It's not really the same when the person bringing the item in is one of the people who commissioned it. I mean that's like if I made a picture frame out of toothpicks 20 years ago and came in and said "What's it worth".
