Good video I'm looking for a location to go out and do some snaring last time I went out I went off the Half Moon Bay jetty we didn't do too well I lost small ones and also a lot of kelp crabs
I'm in Oregon and I'm looking to go clamming, crabbing and maybe fishing sometime this month for the first time. I never tried any of those before and I only fished for Striped bass with my father back in California (Monterey Bay) and caught a 23" when I was much younger. Thanks for sharing the info.
Point of clarification for the new folks: You DO NOT have to release female if you are just recreational l crabbing. If is just a good practice to do so. We will normally keep them in the ice box with a bubbler running and release as we get more males in to replace them. Good luck and OSOT, good videos!
Great video ❤ Im new for crabbing Could u recommend me a daiwa rod and line online link for crab-snare? Im far away from store I want to try next time when i go to Euraka
Snare plus bait plus the sinker, about what is the total weight of the payload you are casting out? Is it about like casting an 8 ounce sinker? Is it as easy on the 10 foot rod as on the 13 foot? Do you know of a suitable rod in 4 pieces for ravel, preferably for conventional reel? Is the license needed in CẢ just a regular saltwater fishing license?
I would say the 10ft Daiwa Beef Stick rod is thicker and more suited for casting up to a 10oz payload. But definitely check the rating on the rod that you choose. The license needed for crab snaring in CA is the regular fishing license. A good brand to check out for a 4 piece travel rod is St. Croix. I have the 4pc travel surf rod from them and it serves me well.
That first cast gave your pole a lot of stress. There was no cast on the bounce, and the dip in the water was extra stress. The length ratios need to be like a trebuchet, your sling should be 4/5ths of your pole length, no longer. In this first cast it looked like the sling was on a 1:1 ratio with the length of your pole. All of these lead to extra stresses that shorten the life of your pole.
I was going to get a Moonsniper rod, but now I’m not so sure. Did it break because it can’t handle the weight of the snare? Or some other reason like a manufacturing defect or shipping damage.
It’s honestly a decent rod. It lasted crabbing two crabbing seasons for me. It may have been improperly seated with some sand inside, which lead to fracturing on a cast. But I’ll pick up another one of my regular duty surf rods, the Daiwa Beefstick.
You can’t go wrong with a Beefstick for crab snaring. They’re almost indestructable. This guy lifted his 40lb kid with one: ruclips.net/video/cn8UI7w5BaI/видео.html !
@@outdoorschoolofthought No it broke because you had way too much slack in the rod and you didn't bounce it before casting. You did the second time but not the 1st. You did a full send with wayy toomuch line out, idk why you didint just say that. Watch the video i just did. you can clearly see and hear it on the 1st cast.
Hi! 👋🏻 I'm from the same area! Going to go snare crab fishing this season, what spots/beaches did you fish? I am also about 30mins out of Bodega bay.. Thanks!!
Hi it is really useful video to me. I was trying to catch crab all homemade set up of the same kind and I didn’t catch any. After watching ur video , I found why I . What is the name of the snare Plastic wire to search on amazone
The term that sucks doesn't quite cover it!!!! That was a nice rod! In Calif. we are allowed to keep legal-size females. All the locals I know toss them back. Because of the hours and miles I drive to get there I have kept them. Thing is they don't have nearly the same amount of meat in them. The rock crab limit is 30 with the size limit of 4 inches. That is a very nice beach!
Good video

Make sure you check for closures before you go crabbing or clamming. Razor clamming is closed for most of the state right now.
oh man that ending! Great vid btw
Hey man another great video! You’re at my favorite crabbing spot!

A good place to buy crab snares is www.crabslayer.com/
And if you don't have a reel here's a good one: a.co/d/aPqeThC Make sure that you get at least a 6000 sized reel.

You can hear it snap audibly on the first cast haha
Awesome video! Where is this spot in Marin? I’ve been out of the crabbing game for years and would like to try a new spot.

What is the fishing line you are using ? How many pound test ? Great video !
Thanks. I have 40lb braid for my main line.
what size line you use?
40-60lb braid amzn.to/3HKQxbw
After you point out the rod was starting to break I was on the edge of my seat with the subsequent cast.
Thanks I will try that soon
Awesome
❤ the video.... thanks

I’m in Northern California.
Which beach is that?

Nice
What's the reasoning for a 13' rod rather than something like a 10'?
Used a 13' rod to cast farther. I definitely trust my 10' Daiwa Beefstick to handle the load more.
I love that spot but it to long of a walk for me
I saw your car and searched you up
Awesome! Hope you find value in my channel.
Yooo what beach ? @Audiobub

Why keep the female???
I had a moonsniper too, broke it first trip out in the same place. Trash product. Never again.
