If Mantis finds savefiles for both Snatcher and Policenauts, he remarks that you are a fan of Hideo Kojima games, with Kojima saying "Thank you for your continuous support." I guess he wanted to refer to the original Metal Gear Solid with more references, however, as far as I know, these were only in Japanese then. I guess making it also in English made more sense now that it was a message to fans. Director Kojima just loves to put his personal life into the game. For example, Rose asking Raiden "what day is it tomorrow" in MGS2 was a reference to Kojima really forgetting on which day he and his partner have met. Personally, I like the mirror speech by a lot, especially when you consider the definition of a video game character by Kojima - as he stated that the missing piece is the player, and the character is in no way complete without it. "I am Big Boss, and you are too. No, he's the two of us together." Can of course also mean it is not exactly Big Boss, but Kojima himself talking, stressing how he could not be "Big Boss" without the support of the fans, the team who had worked with him and who kept following him. There's probably even more to this, Kojima really is god.

"Life isn't just about passing on your genes. We can leave behind much more than just DNA. Through speech, music, literature and movies..." - Solid Snake
_"The original members: Para-medic, Sigint, Eva, Ocelot......They've all passed on"_ _"But every one of them. Will always be with you"_ Big Boss: _"Thank you for always waiting"_
From PT ending: “Dad was such a drag. Every day he’d eat the same kind of food, dress the same, sit in front of the same kind of games… Yeah, he was just that kind of guy. But then one day, he goes and kills us all! He couldn’t even be original about the way he did it. I’m not complaining… I was dying of boredom anyway, But guess what? I will be coming back, and I’m bringing my new toys with me.” Just replace "Dad" with "Konami".
Time Atk i think the PT ending referenced the silent hill franchise, yes "dad" is konami but "the same kind of food, dress the same, the same kind of games" means that the latest silent hill titles were all the same action shit, "one days he kill us all!" means silent hill book of memories, "i will be coming back with my new toys" means silent hills and the next gen
Finozzi96 I think the reference of food and games goes for every Metal Gear he had to do. Kill us all means to be fired. That's why he mention hes was dying of boredom. The Metal Gear.
The names that didn't disappear are what Kojima feared Metal Gear will be in the future. Metal Gear games that are made just for the purpose of milking money from the franchise.
irwan HUZEN the funny thing is Revengence was one of those games that wasn't erased, despite the fact it wasn't a bad game (personally, I hated all the other ones that didn't erase).
I'm just surprised Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel for the Gameboy Color didn't show up on there. Ghost Babel is not canon, but "supposedly" was years after MGS1 but before MGS2. Colonel Campbell had Snake captured again. "Colonel, you didn't go to all this trouble just to make small talk with me, did you?" And the Colonel tells him, almost immediately, that there is "another Metal Gear." This was a stark contrast to the Colonel we knew who kept his hands close to his pockets as opposed to this Colonel who basically said "here are my pockets, I ain't got no rations or secrets, bro!"
That message is very deliberate. Kojima knew ahead of time what Konami was planning on doing or the process had already begun by the time GZ was made. I'm pretty sure the actual coup was underway internally for a substantial amount of time before news of it got out and became public. It's just like Kojima to break the 4th wall like this though, which makes it obvious what this message is about once you understand the context. This also gives credence to the message from the anonymous murdered family member in the P.T. demo as well. I initially thought the P.T. thing had no relevance to the coup, but now it seems a lot more valid.
Naroon201 wait I'm confused, how does PT have relevance to the fallout btwn Konami and Kojima aside from the fact that Silent Hills was cancelled and all that
cheesefrommysoul the final message in PT was an allusion to his relationship with Konami and his inevitable departure. PT was never meant to happen. Kojima used it as a vehicle to screw Konami on the consequences of kicking him out.
cheesefrommysoul PT was made by Kojima Productions and the last message in PT talks about the guy in the house who murdered the rest of the family (presumably the murderer was the dad, and the narrator sounds like the older son -- the ghost/apparition you see in the demo is Lisa, the wife.) The message, if deciphered in this context, was a direct reference to the Konami CEO who came in and went batshit insane and was responsible for ousting Kojima. In this case, the son = Kojima, the dad = the CEO, the wife and the aborted fetus = metaphor for Silent Hills dying before it had a chance (even Konami said the game was in an "embryonic" stage of development when it got canned). The son saying he'll "be back and bring all [his] toys with him" sounds like a direct reference to Kojima coming back with most of his staff and making new games.
Naroon201 this has been going on far longer than just mgsv. remember back in the e3 announcement for mgs4? "no place for hideo?" then later in the teaser "no replacement for hideo". i guess back then he had more power over mgs so he could poke fun at the concept of being pushed out in general. now i guess its a different story. he always did say he was done with mgs, a konami owned isp. i guess the tension was always there just nobody saw it. to quote the Rorschach, "No one else saw the joke. That's why he was lonely."
BlankX47 Yeah I remember that "no place for Hideo" thing. At the time I just brushed it off as typical Kojima quirkiness, since there was no way for anyone outside the company to know about such internal strife without it being made public. Although Kojima has been saying for years that he has wanted to move on from MGS, and I believe him. I think Konami were the ones forcing him to make more games.
"Thank you for all your support" was that Kojimas voice? Edit: didn’t check this video for so long so many likes!!!! Thanks! Me rike arot, if you haven’t seen that parody you ain’t a true mgs fan 🤓
@@daddychill7863 Bro if that's a thing, Kojima is the guy who can make it a thing. There is no other game where for a moment the creator is actually talking to you an you know it. If someone else tried they failed, cuz MGS is the only series where I immediately know it's my boy Kojima talking.
Actually, that last line, along with the Psycho Mantis one, were initially recorded for Metal Gear Solid 1 for the PSX. However, since the two other Hideo Kojima games that could trigger the line (Snatcher and Policenauts) were never released outside of Japan, the line became inaccessible in the international release. Kojima recycled it (almost twenty years later!) as a little homage. *However*, given how hard shit was hitting the fan within Konami, him recycling that particular line could be indeed a "thank you and farewell" message.
Snatcher did get an international release but not on PS1. Only on the Sega CD, and the Sega CD version did not come out in Japan. Policenauts was going to get an English Saturn release but it was cancelled because they couldn’t match up the English dub with the animation.
"But everyone of them will be always with you..." "Thank you for all your support..." T_T , nah man than YOU, for making videogames more than videogames and make them with great stories..
I've only recently experienced this series and how amazing Kogima's work really is, but this makes me think back on his games in an almost allegorical light. There once was a man who believed in his mission and his company, he put his heart and soul into everything he did, not questioning the orders from the higher ups once during those years where he was in his prime. He followed those orders even when the very things that made him what he was were telling him that these orders were wrong, and that blind loyalty to any organization will be his own undoing. The thing that made him what he was, the one that represented his dreams and ambitions, made an example of itself, being a martyr at the hands of the man himself. The story of Naked Snake whom killed The Boss for a nation that used her life for their own ends The story of Hideo Kojima whom gave his prized project to a company who squandered it for their own ends Kojima salutes the Legacy of MGS Snake salutes the grave of The Boss Never forget.
also if anyone tries to ruin assassin's creed for me by making it shit just like Konami did with metal gear solid I will hunt the company down and slaughter them
I wouldn't call him a genius or a master mind for this. I just think he really loved his work. We think he is brilliant because we see it as an art, a craft. In reality, it's just him being him.
I know the Kojima-Konami situation is more likely to be real than not but consider this. Snake was always a kind of alter ego to Kojima. The main theme in MGS2 was to leave your legacy behind when you die, and that was the first time Kojima said he wanted to stop creating MGS games, he wanted them to be made by his team, without him being personally involved. In MGS4, Kojima and Old Snake are kinda in the same position, doing something they don't want to do (making a sequel to MGS2-Killing Liquid) and you could even spot a "NO PLACE FOR HIDEO" sign before the title appeared in one of the first cutscenes. Kojima has been using real world information to convey his games' "lessons". Now, once again, Big Boss and Kojima are in the same position: they've been silent for a long time, their "base" was destroyed and their teams disbanded; moreover, the latest trailer was about cutting people's tongues to silence them, and Kojima was surely silenced, disappearing from twitter and his other social media. Once again, i know i must be overthinking, but i hope this is all a ruse, and i hope we'll see kojima's name pop out in the credits, just like another name appeared right at the end of MGS4.
Henry Clavo thank you :D I just put together informations i knew watching the "making of" the games... I love this series, it's one of the few that can compete with movies and novels in terms of depth

I have the he collection, mgs1, phantom pain and Ground zeroes, and mgs4. That's all the Kojima stuff right? If so then I don't give a shit about konami anymore
+Anon20855 what are you talking about? You guys couldnt have known when you made this comment because the game wasn't out yet. Hideo's name appears throughout that game at-least 100 times. Plastered on the screen before and after every mission. It's a little weird.
jhk655 i know ryt ? i was talking about the box it hasn't "a hideo kojima game inscription" and it doesn't have kojima production either , still the "Directed by hideo kojima " in the end and the beggining of EVERY mision is really fucking weird AND IRRITATING
I think Konami should relinquish the Konami buildings, erase THEIR title and give ALL the buildings, tech and staff to Kojima. I'd rather see more games coming with "Kojima Productions" or "A Hideo Kojima game" on the front than Konami. Please Let Hideo Kojima get his OWN company so we can bask in all he had/has in store for his loving fans.
X2011racer I doubt that will happen. He ins't even a member of the company. Even if he would join, it would be ridiculous to make him president first day when there are so many people already at the company that would deserve it. Also I love both Nintendo and Kojima, but they're too different, they shouldn't mix.
The moment I heard about Kojima being fired from Konami I immediately thought of this mission. It was definitely Kojima hinting at the then upcoming scenario with a strong message, the mission was so weirdly specific in objective, but vague in justification and premise that it really couldn't be anything else.
+TONY_the_TIGGA Pretty sure ''THE PHANTOM PAIN'' the game name, And in the Song Nuclear, the line: ''THE ABONDONED CHILD'' are eastereggs about Konami destroying MGS too.
+GermanKraut There are others too such as TPP snake being "Venom" snake, a fake snake. Not Kojima's but Konami's snake. I didn't make this theory but someone did say something like that. That also makes a great dirty joke.
Sprax he knew his time at the company was coming to a close. Ground zeros was originally supposed to be act 1 of phantom pain. They made him release as a standalone. And they fired him when he was still in the final stages of designing the final act of tpp. Scrubbing his name from tpp was just their way of insulting him on his way out. His departure was a fairly heated thing and there was a lot of office politics.
Good Lord. When I was doing this side quest at the time, the significance of erasing the "real" MGS games but not the "fake" ones was totally lost on me. Wow. That man is a genius.
MugsOfMilk Hahaha Do you know the german (i thin it's not german but i only know the german version) "Du bist was du isst".? It means you are what you eat :D
"Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel my leg... and my arm... even my fingers. The body I've lost... the comrades I've lost... won't stop hurting... It's like they're all still there. You feel it, too, don't you? I'm gonna make them give back our past." Edit this relating to Kojima's message.
This makes me extremely sad. It shows you that he knew the following games will not have his touch, like a baby taken from him. And he possibly knew his destiny of Konami getting rid of him. At least, the answers were in this game.
This actually brought a tear to my eye when I had this moment. I realized MGS was the one video game series that had a significant entry for every era of my life, and all of them felt not just meaningful but like they paralleled my own struggles at those times, and then I realized Hideo was going through the exact same thing saying his goodbyes and in that moment I could really "see the battlefield clearly" and stood with Hideo in spirit both humbled by his brilliance and yet as his equal. There will never be another Hideo Kojima, and for those of us that MGS shadowed us as we moved through our lives there will never be another series quite like it. We were truly blessed, and this is the man who accomplished it.
Kojima sensei will always be one of the best game developers to ever live! If ever Konami fires him that would be the game company's ultimate downfall.. I just hope for the best for Mr.Kojima :(
WHAT. THE. FUCK. P.S. That last line gave me the feels. It's real deep, and goes beyond the game itself. Thank you, Mr. Kojima, for being a part of the gamer in me. For helping me appreciate video games in general, especially those that do things out of the ordinary, those that break out of the norm. For helping me realize that video games could be so much, much more than just simply pressing buttons, exploring the artificial worlds, beating enemies, clearing a level, and trying to reach the end and win, like that last line at the end of the video. For trolling us but still managing to win out hearts at the end of the day. For being different, in every sense of the word. Thank you so much. We will never forget all of what you have done for the video game industry.
Thank you Hideo for creating such an incredible piece of Art which has been with us for almost 30 years. Buying all the copies of every single game of the saga isn't enough to thank you properly for all the emotions you gave us. You're great!!
a good friend of mine is manager of gametop and one day the PlayStation supervisor was there and told the story about Konami SHAMING Kojima. and went into details about how "shaming" is 10X's worse then anything we have here. ****and it was because he refused to allow MGS V to have micro transactions and screw the fans..I never cared for Hideo until I heard that they refused him silverware or chopsticks to eat and his chairs were taken from him...I declared BS until someone confirmed it. look into this if you don't know the story and it will make you hesitant to support this company with MGS Survivor
Shane Tarrant dude,,I think(strongly suspect) this company is very wicked and Kohima was just like any artist/dev going up against the big guys..........the story about the Destiny sound producer/composer @ Bungie warning them about activision dealt the full fury of just how gnarly powerful rich companies can be....Bungie stole his stocks and his stock in the company. *** NOT ONE GAME MAGAZINE OR IGN OR GAMESPOT REPORTED WHAT BUNGIE DID TO HIM AND THE RESULTS OF THE COURT CASE...I feel dirty and dishonest for still liking Destiny... but it's a very well game. The mechanics and control r the best I've ever played or seen in any game...but I know the horror story of this was true and the story that sound composer told about Activision destroying Destiny story is 100% true....we all saw the way Destiny ended.,.we all saw the missing story elements...I hate the corporate side...and then vice versa isn't pretty either..see Sean Murray LAUGHING AND Smiling as he lies to the camera and the world...no surprise he took 16 million and moved to Sweden...jerk!!!

"You may be able to erase the markings, but the memories will never disappear"... yea, and I think that P.T. and TPP is all we have to prove that he really knew what was going to happen... and even now Konami AGAIN, is trying to use his legacy by remaking MGS3... otherwise the first of the Metal Gear Games technically... by timeline.
Even a demo game had alot of quality, many detail and message for metal gear fan. That's make me so proud to support his masterpiece work. Kojima is god!
I think Kojima vision is game director can be as succesful as movie director and create a memory that worth a lifetime for all the people watching or playing the game. While the game message is pretty clear with the main theme war, nuke, abuse of power. Some hint of internal issue that happening back then can't be helped to unintentionally influence some part of the game, and Kojima just let it slide.

From PT ending:
“Dad was such a drag. I will be coming back, and I’m bringing my new toys with me.”
Just replace "Dad" with "Konami".

Holy shit, BADASSNESS OVER 9000!
Udoby Break Kojima's fucking taunted, people, run!
KONAMI, YOU FUCKED UP !!!!
The Metal Gear.
the last line isn't disturbing, it's really sad. Konami has a chance to leave well enough alone, but nope. Metal Gear Survive is the fruit of greed.

honestly though, it probably gonna be a shitty metal gear game, but from the trailers looks like a somewhat decent game in of itself
I wonder where this idiots come from.
I mean 10$ save slot. Seriously ?
The names that didn't disappear are what Kojima feared Metal Gear will be in the future. Metal Gear games that are made just for the purpose of milking money from the franchise.
Exactly
irwan HUZEN the funny thing is Revengence was one of those games that wasn't erased, despite the fact it wasn't a bad game (personally, I hated all the other ones that didn't erase).
nomorewordz619 Probably because it wasn't actually a "Metal Gear"game, just a spin-off in the same setting.
No, they're games he didn't make. If you want to read into it deeper, that's fine, but there isn't really any solid fact to back that up.
I'm just surprised Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel for the Gameboy Color didn't show up on there. Ghost Babel is not canon, but "supposedly" was years after MGS1 but before MGS2. Colonel Campbell had Snake captured again. "Colonel, you didn't go to all this trouble just to make small talk with me, did you?"
And the Colonel tells him, almost immediately, that there is "another Metal Gear." This was a stark contrast to the Colonel we knew who kept his hands close to his pockets as opposed to this Colonel who basically said "here are my pockets, I ain't got no rations or secrets, bro!"
"You may be able to erase the markings but the memories will never disappear"

Kojima used it as a vehicle to screw Konami on the consequences of kicking him out.
cheesefrommysoul
PT was made by Kojima Productions and the last message in PT talks about the guy in the house who murdered the rest of the family (presumably the murderer was the dad, and the narrator sounds like the older son -- the ghost/apparition you see in the demo is Lisa, the wife.) The message, if deciphered in this context, was a direct reference to the Konami CEO who came in and went batshit insane and was responsible for ousting Kojima.
BlankX47
Yeah I remember that "no place for Hideo" thing.

We think he is brilliant because we see it as an art, a craft. In reality, it's just him being him.
DAMN YOU KONAMI YOU MAY BE ABLE TO REMOVE THE MARKINGS ! BUT YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO MAKE THE MEMORIES DISAPPEAR !
Enrico Gusella You gave a interesting analysis and the connection to all MGS games.

The moment I heard about Kojima being fired from Konami I immediately thought of this mission. It was definitely Kojima hinting at the then upcoming scenario with a strong message, the mission was so weirdly specific in objective, but vague in justification and premise that it really couldn't be anything else.
I cant wait to decipher all the messages in phantom pain. Kojima is the master of hiding great easter eggs.

Maybe, just maybe, like in many corporations their split was in fruition for a long time.
