Thank you, great information. I am 51 and had to get in the gym following a severe knee injury under a physiotherapist. I was very nervous as not been in since my 20’s pre children but it’s been amazing. I am stronger than I have ever been after 6months, dropped 2 dress sizes to 150lbs and gained loads of defined muscle. Menopause symptoms gone!. Your inspiration has kept me on track and my body feels good so thank you, it’s never to late to change.
Thank you for talking about not getting sleep when you have kids. When I listen to studies that talk about how sleep impacts your muscle growth I just cry because I love my babies, I love my kids but it seems so hopeless to hear that this time period of my life is really impacting my muscle and I get overwhelmed and "what's the point in trying" about trying to build muscle when I don't ever sleep. And I just love that you acknowledged that you don't get sleep and it's bad for muscle BUT you go to the gym anyway. You can still impact your health and muscle regardless of being in a season of no sleep while growing your family. Thank you for talking about this❤
Don't try to build right now. Try to maintain. I know what it's like having little ones that you are investing in. Just do your best to maintain without burning yourself out. Get rest as much as you can. You can build later.
I love your podcast! I'm 68 years old, mom, and grandma. I lift weights, cardio, and follow a great nutritional program. Thanks for asking questions that everyone can relate to.
@@lovethokoro8898 Plenty of animal based proteins like steak/chicken or vegetable based protein if you have religious restrictions etc, eggs, dairy, protein powder in moderation, protein bars in moderation, fruit and vegetables, oats, healthy fats! Also some carbohydrates like sweet potato.
Omgoodness I love Dr. Lyon! I burst into tears hearing what she said about GPL-1! I have binge eating disorder and I'm on Wegovy. It has changed my life. I'm being monitored by my doctor and I haven't loss any muscle. So far I've lost 37 pounds and I've been on it for a year. I'm ten pounds away from my goal weight. I started weight training and I'm really dialing it all in. I get my protein in, I'm in a calorie deficit and my goal weight is just around the corner. And thanks so much for this video. It's one of the best interviews I've seen with Dr. Lyon. It was really down to earth and focused on a lot of women's issues. PS... I'm a fan of yours now and I just turned 60! 😉😉😉❤️❤️❤️
The mental aspect of lifting weights definitely helped me do an unmedicated delivery as well. I am just a normal person, I have a 9 to 5 job plus a university student at the same time. I have been lifting weights and did lift weights my entire pregnancy. Definitely the best thing I did for myself. I went back slowly to lifting by 6th week postpartum and now I am on my 20th week and feeling strong as I was pre-pregnancy. Just like Dr. Lyon, I have standards and discipline! To all the ladies listening to this podcast, this is the real deal! Dr. Lyon talked about the real medicine!
Hi! Just wanted to thank you for your podcast! I am a 56 year old woman who has been prioritizing weight training and protein for a few years now. I follow both you and Dr. Lyon. Mari, I bet you have more "older" followers than you think!
Great listen from two interesting, driven women. This lifestyle has been my reality for decades. It's been difficult at times but worth the dedication, to put it mildly. I have eaten a plant based diet for 45 years and can attest protein consumption is a challenge but for me, non negotiable.
Great interview I am 53 female and lift 5 days a week - heavier the better no cardio except for occasional walk or trail bike riding with my husband and lots and lots of protein💪💪💪
I always enjoy listening to Dr. Lyon. However, there seems to be a lack of understanding regarding Pilates. I have been taking Pilates for the last six years (advancing from basic level 1 classes to advanced classes) using the Pilates reformer, the cadillac; weights, bands, BOSU, the TRX, and Pilates chair. I have increased my strength and build muscle. Pilates offers a variety of exercises that challenge all of the muscle groups, not just the core.
Great interview! I love Dr. Gabrielle! Question: I heard you say you don’t take creatine but didn’t expand on that. On an interview with Thomas DeLauer you said it was one of the top 4 supplements you encourage people to take. Has that changed and if so, why?
I know several people who’ve been on Ozempic and they looked absolutely terrible. They were literally green and couldn’t keep food down. I currently work with a nurse who is on it and she still orders fast food during lunch every single day 🤦♀️.
Hey Mari and team -- love love LOVE this episode. Just wanted to throw out a tip, if you ever have audio issues like this again, Adobe has AI that you can use and it could take this audio and make it sound great. Anyway, thanks for this episode!
This was a great interview. I am subscribing to your channel Mari. I would like to comment with respects to Dr. Lyon, because I listen to her a lot, that at the 54:50th minute, Ozempic was brought up and I'm surprised that Dr. Lyon did not mention the dangers associated with Ozempic, Semaglutide and Wegovy which are published in PubMed (peer reviewed) that these injections will damage your liver enzymes and muscle mass. It could be that Dr. Lyon is unaware or she doesn't want to come out against these injections as a physician in this industry. But these "weight loss" injections are quite dangerous.
Dr. Gabriel has said in several of her videos that you can get the same results being on a plant based diet and thrive on it. Then, to make the statement, raising a child plant based is child abuse is nonsensical. Contradicting herself and throwing around opinions is completely fine, but I can see how she offends so many people, even acknowledging it in her interviews. Her opinions are very disagreeable, and her diet doesn't seem overly impressive. She really does look like she eats a lot of flesh foods.
Yeah, I am all for her getting more women into lifting weights and eating more protein. You absolutely can get adequate protein from a plant based diet. To say it's child abuse to raise a vegan child is absurd. Wonder if she would think raising a child who eats nothing but chicken nuggets and mac n cheese is child abuse.. probably not.
I think she said this due to pediatric nutrition needs are different from adults. Esp under age 12. As in the protein in chicken, beef, eggs, fish, etc is what builds tissue for proper growth and development. I used to work in. Pediatric clinic and did medical records coding, and this is what i remember.
What are you eating in these meals? I am curious about the bloating, do you eat a lot of vegetables with your protein? What protein source are you using?
Am I the only one shocked by her saying that vegan for a child is like child abuse ! That’s is such a sad statement to make. I work in nutrition and when this is done carefully, making sure the kid gets all the nutrients it needs (iron and proteins from legumes, tofu, tempeh and veggies for example, dairy free “milk” that are fortified) then it is indeed healthy. It is not because it is available that we need to consume it, that’s also a rather weird comment. Other than that I love this podcast.
B12 comes from animals that are supplemented. Your body makes Creatine and there's nothing wrong supplementing B12 or Creatine. All other micronutrients she said that could be an issue with plant protein mentioned can all be found in plants. Eating variety of plants is key. Yes, you could mix lean animal protein like a Middleterranean diet but people who are relying mostly on plant-protein aren't just doing it for their own diet. Animal agriculture is the problem.
It’s more a result of the weight loss. If they have been overweight for awhile it likely has disguised some of the sagging. I know with me personally I look like I’ve aged just from the weight loss alone because I don’t have the fat now in my face that I had before. The fat was filling out some of the sag and wrinkles. It really has nothing to do with the drug itself. There are many doctors that have discussed this and plastic surgeons. They all say the same thing. It is just the weight loss itself. Some of it may go away just as you have cell turnover and skin renewal but also I kinda don’t feel like we get it all you know. I can look a little younger and be fluffier or I can look a little older and be thinner. I’m not sure we get both. The people that have never stretched out their skin with extra fat to begin with may have that advantage but the rest of us don’t.
Mari I heard you almost at the end say you cannot grow your buttocks. Here is how. Get some weights and do sumo squats with your toes pointed outwards as far as you can and go down as slow as possible count 2 seconds and go up. Try 3-4 sets of 10-12 maybe 15 not sure how high you go with weights that would depend on how you feel about them. And follow renaissance periodization Dr Israetel is awesome at explaining slow eccentric for 20-30% more hypertrophy.
Amazing interview ❤ great questions Mari and of course life changing information and confidence from Dr Lyon 🎉

I’ve never had this much energy and my hair and nails hasn’t grown this fast since doubling my protein intake
How long did it take to notice results ?

Team protein for the win. Loved this video. Would really love to see more on women in perimenopause also dealing with autoimmune diseases. Thanks !
Fell in love with Dr Gabrielle Lyon on Mind Pump… getting her book delivered tomorrow… great show Mari!!! I ❤ strong women!!
Absolutely love this woman! Take notes on all of her talks & interviews
I LOVE HER! ❤ everything she is on board with is 100% my beliefs!

I really like what she said… “I’m nothing special… my habits & my discipline is” damn. I need that. I need that for me
As someone who just turned 60, I have started powerlifting. If not now, then when. Excellent podcast

Great interview! Love the questions!

Great pod mari 💯💞✨️
Love this 100%
I feel like those mics are not working lol
What about people living in the Mediterranean that live very long and are healthy but eat less protein and don’t weight train? Like Italy and Spain?

The guests skin is not the best. It doesn't look plump and youthful. It looks thin and weathered. Maybe she should incorporate more diverse diet.
She looks old, unhealthy and artificial.
There’s more nutrients in meat than just protein. That is something she talks about!

On pregnancy - "that shit hurts, man"
I can concur as a mom who gave birth 3 weeks ago 😂 and no, you dont forget it truly!
Why do i still feel hungry after protein meal???
Im constantly bloated 😢
What are you eating in these meals? I am curious about the bloating, do you eat a lot of vegetables with your protein? What protein source are you using?
And here I am wanting to be bulky and have muscle as a female. Mom of 9.
Amen!
Great info! Curious as to how her husband is working 120 hours a week? Hopefully she is exaggerating
Any ideas on birth control

I eat two ribeyes per day and yum.
Why does Dr Lyon say how much she weighs on every interview that she does?
For reference … a lot of times people are curious

Why didn't they touch on the ozempic face? That is real. I've seen it with all my friends who have tried it.
What does it look like? 👀

It looks like rapid aging & collagen lost.
