Dave, you're just flat out one of the best content creators that helps people learn to build on their own. Your explanations and teaching style are easy to understand and you have such an easy to listen voice. The fact that you can play guitar takes you up yet another notch. Great work, man. Thanks for all you do.
I’ve watched the long versions of every one of you and Brooke’s builds thru the years Dave, and I watched this one from start to finish. I’ll never be in a position to build one of these cabins/tiny homes, but by watching your videos I’m totally confident I could! Thanks for years of great content!
Dave, this is one of Thee Best shows you've done yet!!! I wouldn't say you showed us a ton of... new things... but showing clips from all four cabin builds, and why you did unique things in each build was both informative and educational. You do something else that I approve of... you show us how to save money. Keep up the good work, and Thank You, sir!
Started my little cabin build up in Moran Michigan just south of Trout Lake. I am absolutely going to be using pattern 116 tongue and groove. And more than likely, I will keep buying my stuff at Menards in Gaylord on my way up to the property from down here in southwest Michigan. I sure do love watching your videos. They have inspired me to get property and build a nice little place to get away from the hustle and bustle down here.
I thoroughly enjoy your content more than any other RUclipsr. What sets you apart is how you don't advertise to push an agenda. You advertise what you buy and use and don't push a product on us! I love it. Keep being authentic. It's sets you above everyone else. Also, you're a heck of a teacher!!
Thanks for a super and very informative video Dave. Also extra gratitude for not selling out, once producers squander their soul and start peddling endless power stations and e-bikes, their integrity is gone and I stop following them.
I am so grateful for you and Brooke. I am 60, divorced and on my own. I use you guys to help me plan for the what ifs. Thanks you both for your channels!
I've watched all your build videos and this was a nice (and interesting) reminder of the processes, tips and recomendations. (Also good to see you preparing a nice filling meal with coffee at the end - I'd get a wood stove just for that!) Thank you for this.
You could have a career as a voice over narrator. I am no longer in any condition to ever build a cabin. Yet I clicked on this video immediately and watched it all the way through. Why? Because I knew I was going to learn a lot and enjoy doing it. Thanks again for the entertainment and knowledge.
Thank you much Dave. Very in- formative. I'm hunting in Hillman and the cabins are block, mouse infested and hard to sleep in. I'm old (72) but my partner and I could build one like ya got in MI. Thank you again.
Your videos help fill the hole i have from not having a dad in my life. You have a very peaceful grounding energy in your videos, and im so grateful for them ❤
Guessing by the woodshed in the end scene, you’ve made it back up to the vertical-log cabin outside of Fairbanks…enjoyed the compilation video here. Hope the low-bush cranberries are coming on in abundance…
I have been following you for years, this channel was the reason to buy land (I already bought it) and one day be able to build my cabin in the forest, greetings from Chile
I love this. Over time I have learned a lot from you. I've not built anything so complex as a cabin, but my back deck is awesome thanks to some tips and tricks I have picked up.
I spent a summer working for a master carpenter in my teens, yet I still learn so much from your videos! In addition, I get inspiration! Great stuff! 😀
You’ve explained some marvelous common sense tips that are often overlooked. They make the difference of a build being fun and satisfying instead of ‘OMG, why didn’t I do that?”😅
Watching you use your level to pencil out where the 'studs' are when laying/nailing your plywood floor is simple but a good tip. Awesome video. Thank you very much.
Dave, a wonderful collection of the cabins you have built. With your videos and references you have mentioned Tara and I have completed our first cabin and we are there now. Full time coming this spring. Thank you for all the time and effort in putting your content together and sharing with the rest of us.
Inspirational as always! It's funny that as you jumped from cabin to cabin I kept changing my mind which one is my favorite. The black cabin has the unfair advantage of that view.
Dave, you know what's better than listening to, and watching you and Brooke, Having you come to my place, and show me step by step in person!! It be an honor, but for the amount of trees we have on our property, ya might get the window, and door trim. When we moved here, there was nothing. No trees, no bushes, all basically swamp grass. We're working on it!!
😊 pretty sure this is my 3rd time watching this gem of information. Great efforts and good setting. Dave, you and your Girl in the Woods, are two of the best! Stay safe out there, and get outside ❤❤
Love this video. I don't need all these methods but love to see the options and I learn and that's what I enjoy about them. Seeing all the different methods teaches me so much that I didn't know before. Can't wait till 5he next one.
I like the idea of just having a power station for those short stays, not spend a lot of money on a permanent solution that won't get enough use to justify it. One idea I had for those, though, is to also carry along one of those portable (like roll-up) solar panel setups. You could toss that on the roof, or some other convenient location, when you arrive, and have it keeping the power station full. When you leave, you take it with you. As for 16 x 20 being like a house...we think we're seriously downsized living in our fifth wheel, which I think is a bit over 400 square feet, vs the 320 of the cabin. It's like a "tiny house" in that regard.
Dave, in 2012 I built an 8' wide 12' high 16' long cabin style shed with a half loft. I used T 111 with 1' x 1' red stepping stones for the foundation. I used drywall screws because I basically hate nails. I marked most areas with a carpenter's punch and drilled pilot holes. I could live in this shed. We use it for a combination of things one is storage and my outside cats love this shed. They enjoyed sleeping in it for about two years and still do if it is raining. It has both interior lights & night lights.. Plus exterior solar lights mounted on the shed and solar yard lights mounted on the side of the shed. Gary cat is in their right now along with one possum. We try to keep the raccoons out because they make huge messes. We have 7 raccoons who visit every night. I have outside elevated boards for walkways and animal feeding stations. One upside down mounted large plastic tote above their food & water. The cats and raccoons enjoy playing on and all around this shed and playing in our avocado tree. I have a 1' wide 1" thick board with sides going from an elevated feeding station to a fork in the tree. The boards are lined with pool noodles so the animals do not accidentally fall off & so the board does not damage the tree. As mentioned one plugged in light at the primary outside feeding station and solar lights. I still do projects to and around the shed mostly for fun! I enjoy your videos!
I can't swear that I watched each of these cabins being built originally but pretty sure. I know I watched the one with the tree in the deck, and the other smaller one, but I have watched them all since the TV show, and want to go further back at some point. I just wish other RUclipsrs put half the effort into great videography and editing as Dave does. He even takes time to help others like "Jay and Jen".
You have inspired me to buy a piece of land and build my own cabin. I'm not as experienced or knowledgeable, but I figure if you can do it (and my great grandfather could years ago), it might take me a bit longer, but I bet I can too. The land is bought and the driveway is cut! now for the hard part!
Great cabin build compilation. You always give me the urge to build another one. If i do, I think I will use the ledger board design. That looks so much nicer than using joist hangers. Thanks Dave.
Hard to say which cabin I love most but i'm leaning towards the 12X12 cabin with a half loft. If I was a younger man (72) stick framing over a log cabin suits my taste best. Dave as always I'm a big fan of everything you build

Thanks Dave! Please address and advise on how, really to keep the house warm. Also please advise and make a Slab foundation to stand the fierce winds that we have! Like and love the show! Eric
This is a good compilation or comparison. I’m pretty sure I watched each of these builds when you posted the videos for them. All good design and build presentations.
Old fashioned galvanized steel roofing was nailed in with lead head nails that had a lead gasket. These were always nailed on the ridges. Newer fasteners have rubber gaskets that weather away.
Great videos... always learn tid bits to help with my small projects. When you were discussing getting the third pylon completely square, I use the 3-4-5 rule to make my math/geometry easy.... You may have mentioned that in earlier videos...but... just sharing my shortcut... Thanks Dave

Crazy how I don’t have the attention span to sit through a Hollywood movie these days. But when Dave puts out a video, he has 100% my attention.
I appreciate that

Listening, enjoyable. I grew up in a house that was siding over log on the back half. It was civil war era. Front was around 1900.
I really appreciate all the details you delve into here and your openness in sharing it all!

Great video Dave! Love your KISS ( keep it simple stupid ) way of doing things.
LOVE this video! It's a combo of a walk down memory lane and a refresher course on building. Thank you!

You should attach those cleats for the plywood drawer-bottoms before you install the floor joists.
