Good video. I went back after I read a book on the subject, to rewatch Brazil in the 1970 World Cup, and they began the idea of the "false 9." Back then, teams used to man mark strictly, so Brazil's Manager started moving his fowards out of the middle of the field to pull their man away, creating space foe the midfielders and defenders to run into. The center forward was Tostao, with Pele and Jairzinho (who scored in ever game) as the wingers. Rivelino, the inventor of the elastic, was the midfielder. Brazil moved Tostao to the left wing, withdrew Pele to midfield, and had Jairzinho and Carlos Alberto running down the right wing, and Rivelino down the left. Look at the goal against England. It was Pelele advancing into the center and doing a simple touch pass to Jairzinho, who was unmarked, for the only goal. Rivelino scored four goals advancing on the left, and the second most famous goal in WC history, Carlos Alberto's rocket, also came from Pele doing a touch pass to the fullback. Can you make a video on that?
That Barca team was the greatest team I have ever seen during all my years watching the sport. Messi, Xavi, Iniesta... so much talent and such a beautiful style of playing!
There is a few reasons as to why messi played as a false 9 to which you named some but you did not mentioned the most important one. Messi played as a false 9 and dropped to midfield to create superiority in the mid. Sometimes it would be a 4v2 in the mid. Once barca had control of the mid, the game was already won. Creating space was important, but as you may see in the second half, Madrids CB no longer followed messi once he dropped so the was no longer there, they stayed in their positions, but this made the back four very flat, because they weren't really marking anyone, which lead to the fourth goal. Also a 4-4-2 is suicide against barca lol
See, every time a false 9 drops mid, it carries a defender since the defender thinks that player is a threat. That alone creates space for straight forwards. An example is Henry's goal. A false 9 cannot come back too much to the mid since it will automatically make it a regular mid and the defenders will stop chasing. A false 9 is placed to create spaces/ opportunities. Another reference you can find is Cesc Fabregas in the 2012 euro.
Hi. Not sure. I watched him play beautifully at Arsenal and he NEVER smiled. Just who he is. Sometimes a person ends up in the spotlight but is actually shy or introverted or simply not very emotional and people do not understand them. His teammates like him, which says a lot.
I love how even the commentators do not understand the brilliance of this system. They think it's only one player that did it fantastic while in fact is the whole team and more the midfielders and attack for the scoring! It is mental how good and well organised was the false 9, Messi always went back and became a magnet for the defensive line! It was like an anti-offside scoring plan! Brilliant and what a Barcelona that was! So sad witnessing this empire to fall cause it became a brand of a team... But well, I was lucky enough to have seen there moments
I doubt no one will ever reach the peak of what this Barcelona team did. Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Henry, Puyol, Busquets, Guardiola. How can you ever be like them again or beat it?

So many brilliant Barca players that it’s hard to pick one to focus on. And in that brilliant group Messi still reigns supreme.
The beginning of Barca's golden era. That match was the big bang and the realization that barca is in a different level.

Idk about 4-4-2 being suicide. Thats been atletico madrids formation for years and they give barca trouble all the time
@@migueljasso1188 Atleti have very poor record against barca
@@mohammadaatif7924 almost every club has poor record against barca, especially at the time when Pep was the manager lol.
This team was something else! 💙❤
Messi makes me so emotional watching him 😢 Maradona was my idol in the 80s,and now my 5year old son is a Messi crazy child 😮as a father I love it 🥰
The first time the video paused and those red circles came up, my high ass thought RUclips broke and those circles were the new buffering icons
NerdvanaNC 😂
Same
Exact same to me tonight aha
Xavi was hands down the best midfielder in the history of spain and probably the best ever.
What a gk casilas was
God I miss these players ..many of them dont play anymore..Henry what a player..
Im miss the old barca time )’: .
Watching this in the Valverde era and well, I am sad.
Same dude same.
😭
He went for the wonder goal. Shot on target. And defended successfully too.
That's how good the times were 😭😭
Excellent video mate...the class that this Barca team had is impeccable
This was Peps barca
Really miss those days😭
Hallo bro okee men
Barca
Messi: signals everybody involved in the goal
Henry: I did it myself
Hi.
There is so many videos about this, but the way u presented in ur video it's unique 👍
My god I keep forgetting Roben played for Real. Jeez.
What about mertesacker? Had no idea at all.
@@tashiwangdu4747 Holy shit, for real? Had no idea as well
Tashi wangdü lol Mertesacker never played for Real Madrid... I think you mean Metzelfder. also Robben was pretty good at Real
Robben.
One of the best tactical masterclasses of all time if not the best.
Messi was so strong and a skillful player back then 💓💓💓
Honestly this was the barca most fell in love with. Hopefully this comes back
I doubt no one will ever reach the peak of what this Barcelona team did. Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Henry, Puyol, Busquets, Guardiola. How can you ever be like them again or beat it?
It’s amazing how these conmentators are oblivious to the tactics and are just crediting the whole thing as an “offside trap”
back when barcelona didn’t rely on messi, miss those days🤧🤧
La cantidad de veces que Messi quedaba sin marca o generaba espacios por jalar marcas con solo estar cambiando de posición unos 2 a 5 metros. Nadie sabía quién lo tenía que marcar. Guardiola es un genio.
I know this match was true greatness but this commentating pair is just as good I miss them
