    I can confirm the bass drum is a continuous shuffle as told to me by Manny Elias. I spent a day in Bath with him.

    • @regaltip8A
      @regaltip8A 2 года назад +2

      I forgot to add Manny never played on the original. It was a drum program by Chris Hughes the producer and was influenced by the Simple Minds track Waterfront - straight from the horses mouth.

    You make it look so effortless, and having tried to play this hi hat pattern it is anything but.
    I just play 12/8 on the hi hats, and that works for me.😀

    Lovely playing dude. Out of curiosity, how do you remove the click (assuming you're playing to one) from the recording that we're hearing?

    • @MikeBarnesDrums
      @MikeBarnesDrums  Месяц назад +1

      The backing track is reproduced here exactly as it sounds - you get the hi-hat as a count-in then it drops out. No click at all.

    For as long as I can remember, that's not how I thought the hi-hat was played, and by extension always was confused about and off put when the snare first comes in.

  • @stuartmacfarlane265

    Do all the crashes fit within the basic hi hat pattern on + 2 a + 4 a. If counting it 1 + a 2 + a 3 + a 4 + a

    Hi Mike Merry Christmas, im struggling, ive got a yamaha 402 electric drum kit, my hi hat cymbal is slanted down towards me, is it meant to be straight, i dont know if i set it up wrong. I keep hitting my sticks when playing, have i done something wrong?

    • @MikeBarnesDrums
      @MikeBarnesDrums  7 месяцев назад

      Hi Jo, yep generally I'd say I'd want mine to be flat (parallel with the ground), as seen in these vids.

    Hi Mike, is this normal, I've not been able to practice as much as due to time, and when I've gone back in, everything I learnt, I am back to square one 😢

    • @MikeBarnesDrums
      @MikeBarnesDrums  8 месяцев назад

      Hi Jo, yes this is normal! The grass grows back. Drumming takes no prisoners! It's use it or lose it. You need to be practising regularly - that's my experience anyway. But if you've been there once it'll come back more quickly once you practice regularly. Cheers!

    tangential learning: is your left heel counting or just doing what it does?

    • @MikeBarnesDrums
      @MikeBarnesDrums  3 года назад +3

      Left heel is just keeping time - on the same pulse as the hi-hat strike. Not compulsory! But helps me get the feel. I tend to just left my left heel do what it likes! Obvs concious not to let it influence the sound.

    This is note for note exactly?

    • @MikeBarnesDrums
      @MikeBarnesDrums  2 года назад

      I label these as “note-for-note” if I’m playing the original part, as opposed to playing my own version of things, as lots of drum covers do. I was following a score here and as far as I’m aware it’s accurate to the original part, but I can’t guarantee everything is a perfect match to the original. Thanks for watching!
