It's just a generic wire.. I purchased it at the hardware store, not the craft store. It's 20 gauge galvanized steel wire. But you could just open up some non tarnish paper clips, they are made from hardened wire, and are great to use for jump rings.
Just saved me a trip to the store...I used a long crochet hook in different sizes to get the small medium and large rings...Thank you so much
Thx I was making a mini chain necklace for a lps I’m getting soon. This helped a lot. I didn’t even watch the whole thing and I knew what to do. You did so well I knew before u showed me.
Thank you for demystifying the basics of jewelry making. So simple to watch and follow, thank you for making these tutorials.
This really helps. I bought a package of already made jump rings from the store and they were all overlapping. Very hard for a beginner. This seems so much easier.
OMG what a revelation!!! This will save me countless dollars on jump rings which I use constantly in my jewelry making. I can't believe how easy it is to form the rings. Very creative idea. Thanks.
Glad to hear the video has helped Shelby!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! Within 5 minutes I already made 20 jump rings myself. This was so helpful
I thought this was complicated. Thank you 💜💜💜
Thank you for this amazing tutorial! It's so much easier to make these and my own headpins with all the wire I already have.

Yes, any gauge that is strong enough to stay together and not separate if tugged on will work.

You are so amazing!!
Thank you so much! xoxo
At the hardware store, or home improvement store.. it's called galvanized steel wire. (It's also hypoallergenic if you want to use if for ear wires, and it is steel, and does not contain nickel, which is the most common allergen in wire.)
20 gauge steel wire, you can buy it at the hardware store. You could open paper clips, and use those as well.
Jump rings are used to connect jewelry components, for instance, connecting a clasp to a chain.
Jump rings are used to attach 2 chains together, or to attach a charm or bead or pendant to a necklace or bracelet.
I am a great fan of urs.. all ur videos are very useful.. thanks for sharing ur creativity to this world..
Watching march 2020. Thanks for video
Great, thank you so much!
Neat! thankyou for sharing.
Thank you very much!
Thank you so much!!! you are so helpful:)
You can use beading wire, as long as it is at least 20 gauge. Any wire that is strong enough to keep it's shape would be fine for making jump rings.
If you are using a wire that is fine, and won't be strong enough to maintain the round shape, you can always use the wrap links to join beads in bracelets and necklaces. There are examples of those in the bracelet tutorial on my channel, Hectanooga1
thank you so much i love it n it was so easy to understand :)
thank you!
I'm so thankful for this video. I was shopping online for large jumprings and I couldn't find them anywhere. Now I can just make them! Thanks so much!!
That is great to hear Candy! Isn't it great to be able to make any size you need? And as you need them too!
Hi! I'm so glad I found this tutorial after the extremely frustrating time I've had this evening TRYING to make "make work" chain. ggrrr!!
I found a written tut with pics and everything and it's confirmed - I'm a complete IDIOT!! It's so easy it's stupid. 20 gauge copper wire, 1" long. make a loop on both ends, then bend in half. I could choke the person who had written these instructions. Anyway, I can't make this chain so I came to your channel and found the figure of eight type chain. If I am unable to do this, I'm giving up crafting and art all together!
So now I've found your refreshingly easy jump ring tut and I'm ecstatic!! I'm attempting my hand at paper beads. (Yes, I know, been around forever, but I'm always a day late and a dollar short :-)) After pricing these at Michael's, heck yeah!! Now I can attach my beads to something?
I'm frequently low on funds, so to save money, I thought to make my own chain for bracelets for my beads. I'm thinking these would make great gifts. I've even deluded myself into thinking I just might be able to sell my beads!! LOL!
I realize this is 4 years old and I hope you read this, so I wanted to say thank you so much for the tutorial!! I'm looking for more chain tuts on your channel - boy you have a ton! This will have to wait as I need to get back to making beads. At least it's a craft I'm pretty half ass decent with? Maybe? ;-) Thanks again!
Oh! I'm subscribed to your channel now as well.
+Christina Furner-Webber Hi there Christina!! Thanks so much for your post! Loved reading it, and I'm happy to hear that you have found my channel... I have tons of bead tuts... beads made with : plastic grocery bags, fabric, ribbons, bathroom tissue, crepe paper, and of course paper!! Lots of other wire tuts too:
clasps, chains, wire wrapped beads, finger rings, and of course, jump rings! Have fun watching my tutorials, and feel free to send in any pictures for my
"Viewer Submissions" videos!! Have a fun day! Emi (Oh, and hopefully you clicked in the little "gear" icon beside the word "subscribed", so you will receive an email when I post new videos!!)
Thanks!
Misplaced my big bottle of jump rings, You have helped me tremendously with this easy to understand video. Maybe I won't buy jump rings again. Make my own in any color and any size. THANKS
Diane Vitale Thanks for commenting, it is very useful to be able to make your own jump rings!
I wished I've seen this video before I bought a bag of wrong size jump rings. Very useful video.
You can use them for armor and chainmail jewelry as well.
Thank you♥️♥️♥️♥️
Loved the video! :)
Thank you.
Very nice.
When you talk about getting things from dollar store, which dollar store do you go to? Just curious if we have the same one in states.
Thank you so much for this video. Will this same technique work for an even stronger wire such as 18 gauge?
Yes, 18 gauge will also work.

You can buy galvanized stainless steel wire at the hardware store.. (and sometimes at the dollar store).. stainless steel is hypoallergenic. Galvanized stainless steel wire has been coated with zinc, which is a mineral, and non toxic. (I take it as a supplement with my calcium.)
It is quite inexpensive. I have severely allergic ears, and this wire does not affect me in any way. There is no lead, nor nickle (which is what most people are allergic to), in stainless steel wire.
Some paper clips are stronger than others... if you use one that is quite rigid, then yes.
Do you think it would be strong enough if I used a paperclip as a substitute for wire? :)
If it's strong enough, sure!
Love your nails so much😍💅
Speed this up to 1.5x and it's the perfect speed!! Thanks for the info ma'am!
Thank you for your video, so simple and I'm glad you showed the correct way to open them too!!!
thanks lady
I commend you for doing this...I should do this, but I'm sooo lazy lol :)
Thank you. Other make it so complicated to make jump rings.
Thanks. I love this simple explanation! Please tell me what gauge wire you used? If you told on your video, I am DEAF & couldn't hear. Thanks again!!
20 gauge wire

Thankyou
Thank your for sharing
Itschikyj You're welcome, thanks for commenting!
Did you notice, that I was demonstrating what NOT to do???
It's just called "The Dollar Store"
This is a great tutorial! I never knew you could make your own jump rings! :-) Where can the spool of wire be purchased?
Wow that's neeat...didn't know this!
Can you use regular jewelry wire?
Ms Goerdt is my homie
Can I use 24 gauge wire?
You can also use a mandrel to create jump rings. It ensures that each jump ring is exactly the same size and has many sizes in one tool.
Thanks! You are the number one! kissis!
Hi, what kind of wire are you using? TY
TY!
+janie marie You're welcome Janie!
+Hectanooga1 - Crochet, Knitting, Jewelry, Crafts, Cooking Hello, I am so glad I found your site. One question, how do the jump rings stay closed? I have used them before when making different things, and they never are closed enough for the wire, or whatever to stay in the ring.
Thanks.. Janet
+jan cat If you need a non-breakable jump ring, it's best to use a double ring, where you have 2 loops (go around the round object 2 times), but that sometimes catches in things. Another connector to use instead of a jump ring is to make a figure 8 connector, where you have a loop on each item to be connected, and then the wire wraps around the center several times, although that is not always what is needed. Other than welding the join closed, I don't know of any other permanent way to do it.
Thank you so much :) I'm so tired of not having the right size jump rings on hand when I'm in the middle of a project. Also it's very hard to find the exact size and in the right finish . Very easy to follow :)
HI! LIKE YOUR TUTORIAL....WHERE CAN I GET 20 G,18 G, WIRE THAT IS REASONABLY PRICED. ALSO HAS TO BE LEAD FREE ! TY..save me a bit on making my own.
Can you use a 22 gauge wire?
what is the exact name of your wire? couse the wires that i see are really soft :(
Nice
