Not to mention how she literally admitted that they don't always play the games they're talking about and follow scripts written for them which would shatter a lot of trust from the little audience they already had. Like imagine watching a game review from AngryJoe or Mandalore and finding out that they never even played the game and were reading from some other persons script or notes
I remember always watching the Arena show. That show was the reason I got into competitive gaming. They would always play Unreal Tournament 2004, and Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. I never watched any of this new iteration of G4tv, but from the looks, it wasn’t anything like the good days of Morgan Webb and Olivia Munn
Morgan Webb might have been hired as a pretty face but she was entertaining, relatable, charismatic and was informative without being offensive. She too probably got a ton of sexist feedback when she first started but if she did a meet and greet today I bet majority of the fans would say positive things about her reviewing and her humor and less so her looks. Frosk right out the gate came into G4 with a stick up her ass and she continued to keep that ego as her personality.

30:29 “you’re not attacking guy’s gender” has anyone ever played? They call you gay, they say your cawk is small, they saying you sleep with your sister, and a bunch more crazy things… and you’re upset because someone told you to go back to the kitchen? This is the internet… it’s not real.
Exactly. Gaming at its core has a lot to do with escapism. So when the potential core audience tuned in, only to be greeted by a lecture, they "noped" out forever. Simple as that. Doesn't even matter if Frosk was right or wrong - that is completely beside the point. People weren't tuning into G4 TV to hear that stuff.
I am just glad I don't have to watch her ruining LoL broadcasts. Although the pouty face fiasko during casting of one of her last appearances was hillarious. Still she will blame it on everyone else, not addressing the fact that she is extremely unlikeable.
To sum it up: 1- frost knows shit about gaming 2- She got called out for this 3- She pulled out a victim card, insulted fans and told them to go away 4- The network supported this 5- They went broke.
she once said that the RIOT desk has no diversity. but no one person on the desk when she was there was from the same country or nationality. what she says have no proof or backing
G4 dropped the ball by not having their shows streamed on twitch 24hr a day. They had so much material from their archives to show and to show repeats of their new shows to get people interested in the live shows. In west coast their shows were at odd times.
I think it is very important to differentiate between an attack vector and an attack reason. I was born with a walking disability, so whenever someone really wants to insult me, that's where they will go. They didn't do it because they hated people with disabilities, they did it to hurt me specifically. I think the major problem we have is toxicity; all the big "-isms" in online games are significantly puffed up by attack vectors.
yup. well said. thats how ive felt for years now with this stuff. most people dont have deeply rooted bigoted beliefs, they just attack the first thing they see. its still not right, but i dont think its indicative of some massive problem.
He should have spoken up, or walked off. He didn't have to do it during filming, but he could have done it before or after. This is what he gets for being a "woke ally". When you work with toxic people, you're going to get poisoned.
I think the big misstep was simply bringing the network back in the same state it was in on its deathbed. I remember the first year G4 came out, it had original content, games shows, retrospectives and documentaries as well as talk shows like TechTV and Attach of the Show. But I felt like its revival was, lets just bring back the last 2 shows we had left and hope for the best. They should have streamed live E-sports, maybe tapped popular YT creators who make amazing long form documentaries on new and classic games etc. The possibilities were endless. They also should have streamed their content on places like Twitch and YT in addition to TV. But it all ended up being a half assed cash grab that failed.
itsagundam did a deep dive, the people they hired had little to do with the culture they wanted to be part of its like hiring a famous pizza maker to run your hamburger chain
Well they had a little bit of it with Scott the Woz editing his episodes for tv, and the completionist being a main host and I making content for it. They had some awareness of the space, but not enough. Honestly I just don't think they could have done it today. There's barely any kids growing up without the internet, yt, twitch anymore. I'm 19 and up to when I turned 13, I was still watching cable regularly, and then it switched to yt and twitch. I think back around that time from 2010 to 2016 it would have worked well, but after that, not really.
My theory about frosk not getting fired. Execs knew g4tv was going down, and with frosk still employed, she would have been the public face of the shutdown which would have killed her career. But after her stupid tweet, they had no choice but to fire her too.
I feel like they didn't fire her because she could've hit them with a discrimination lawsuit since her rant is directly related too sexism. Her tweet was the last straw. I bet that tweet pissed off everyone that was still there. They had a meeting with her and she tried copping a "it was just a joke" plea while they said "that was distasteful and we've had your back". She's socially awkward and doesn't know how too exist in this space
@@BlackHippy313 I have a feeling that they thought about the discrimination lawsuit but the tweet was a good excuse to fire her and have a definitive alternative to defend themselves if she brought it up.
Everyone gets shit on, doesn't matter if you're a guy or a girl. It's whether or not you can move past it and rise above that really makes a difference. Someone missed the message on that one.
The hate towards Nadia being so high Isn't just because she's a woman, that's a factor, but it's the fact that she is so openly open and loud about how she's so good and so much better than everyone else with an ego attached to it compared to other cheaters who dwell in their cave in order to not be noticed for cheating. However Nadia is different, I've never seen a cheater so open

Pretty sure it was Frosk that got them canceled, as you can see how their viewership was going up by thousands of subscribers a week, then her rant hit, then they were dropping thousands of subscribers a week. Even more than they were gaining prior.
I heard that it was mostly all added in post, there's a Rumor going around that there was stunned silence on the set and frosk immediately regreted what she said afterwards but they needed to keep up appearances.
@York Hunt I was refering to the people behind the camera not the goobers in front of it those loud cheers and claps you hear off screen even the clip with Adam sessler seal clapping is supposedly from something else that they copied and edited into the scene to make it seem like she had more support than she did and to not make it awkward. Once again rumors but supposedly someone on the set was the source.
@@orbbb24 I do not, but I'm sure if you look it up on RUclips you can find it it been reposted thousands of times. If your refering to the clip of her regreting it afterwards im afraid its not public or it Dosen't exist, these were claims made by someone on set, therefore its rumor.
Man, G4 was the bomb when I was a kid. My family would sit by the fireplace and watch the _Ninja Warrior_ tournaments with eager anticipation. It was good times.
The biggest problem with G4 was they never really focused or informed you on games. They focused on issues with the gaming community and issues with gaming developers and companies and so on. I don't want to sit down and relax and just here about all this stuff I have read online about over and over. I want to relax and here about new games being developed, see new game trailers, maybe even watch stuff like best clips from the week, or funniest fails in game clips recently. Just general information on games. I remember back in the day when you would get a game informer magazine you didn't get it to hear news about the gaming industry or issues with online community. You got it to see new game developments and strategies for certain games and see screenshots from upcoming games. They actually informed you about useful gaming information, they didn't try to push agendas and gossip about the community and industry.
I thought X-play's retrospectives on resident Evil, sleuth games, Fight Night, and Madden were good deep dives into certain franchises and genres. They took a look at what made the games popular, and where the games had a mistep, and if they recovered. They speculated on where the franchise could go from there. I saw a couple episodes where they reacted to game trailers, and talked about how they excited they were for the new game. I didn't see any episodes talking about the gaming industry though. Unions, pay discrepancies, workplace abuse, crunch. Frosk had a good chance to talk about crunch at Rockstar there when she started talking about how Red Dead was her favorite game.
bro, literally everything you just described is posted daily by pc gamer, kotaku, and other sites you probably read. youre not gonna find anything new on a tv channel.
It’s important to remember that the old g4 (24/7 cops reruns, the man show etc.) went on to esquire magazine while the new g4 got revived solely for x-play and AOTS but so far their cable was just AOTS streaming and laying down tracks in front of the content train so eventually the quality suffered
No G4 would have died ether way, getting into Cable TV with a video game show is stupid in this day and age, plus the they had a huge studio that was draining money faster than anything else. The whole thing was doomed to fail before it started, just a bunch of old embarrassing humans thinking they live in 90s/00s.
I don't know much about the rest of the G4 cast, but when I think of the entire situation I feel bad for Jirard, considering this was one of his big dreams and when he finally gets on THIS happens Edit: I completely forgot I even made this comment. Oof this aged terribly.
@@AwsOm3Fac3 You could also interpret it as feeling the "need" to as to not look like an asshole, I got the idea that he was was put on the spot and wasn't expecting it to happen, but I am also not Jiard so I will never know
@@delix8869 No it's very clear that Frosk's rant was absolutely just off the cuff, not planned or previously discussed to happen. Jirad very clearly said like "WHOA I didn't think this was happening today but I'm with it." Could you even imagine the shit Jirad or anyone else in that room could have got in if they decided to mitigate or tell her to calm down or tell her to get back to the Red Dead topic she decided to hijack for her rant. Jirad had to at least semi-play along during that so the crazies wouldn't be down his throat.
They can't help themselves. Can't handle people saying mean things and feeling the need to grandstand with their garbage that no one wants to hear on a gaming channel. Heroes in their own minds.
Asmon presented this perfectly tbh. I gave an example to my gf about this whole thing. Imagine you're in a work meeting to discuss a project with like 15 people and at the beginning of it one of the employees says "excuse me I'm going to take control of this meeting for a bit". They then rant about how someone at the company was rude to them and rude people are disgusting, and no one should be rude to anyone and if they are they can shove it. Sure, people shouldn't be rude, but that is neither the time or the place. We would all think that individual has a massive chip on their shoulder and is has a serious problem with their ego as well as being a bit mentally unstable. I can't imagine the self-righteousness one would need to have to think this is appropriate.
G4TV mainly failed because no one likes condescending A-Holes being passive aggressive in a "this totally isn't bothering me even though it obviously does" way. Also they decided to be aggressive towards fans or potential fans before they were big enough to get away with it. Also they were A-Holes to one of the most passionate in positive and negative ways, gamers.
I disagree with Asmon about there being a problem with sexism in WoW for example. I've experienced the exact opposite time and time again. With players/guilds acting like complete simps and giving some of the worst players a free ride because they're a girl. In fact they got so many free boosts, biased loot priority and gold/mounts showered upon them, that my friend started pretending to be one himself.
You hit the nail on the head on this one. Morgan Webb was an inspiration to me as a teen female gamer at the time. I remember when G4 was Tech tv and there were hot girls but that didn't distract me plus I would watch the Man shoe on comedy central and wasn't offended I was happy to see black women on TV if anything old G4 and TechTv didn't show black gamers male or female and thar sucked for me. But yeah G4 shouldn't have come back they didn't even have their Anime line up which was a HUGE letdown!
G4 was bought out in like 2004, give or take. It was a great channel before and a little while after, then major changes happened soon after the but out. It uses to be a nerdy tech and gaming channel, then they went the MTV route. I'm surprised it was even still around.
G4TV should have know not to touch Frosk, especially after Riot dropped her for causing internal drama behind the scenes. And of course she attacked the one person who was known for being a all around genuine nice person.
imma be honest i never even knew they brought G4 back lol. i thought that shit died on tv ages ago. that being said i will always remember and cherish Ninja Warrrior, and Code Monkeys. Those were badass shows from G4 in the earlier years.
G4 was ahead of it’s time but as soon as the internet started getting more popular with the increase of twitch streamers and overall game streaming. It started to dwindle fast. I can imagine their audience started dropping overnight at one point. Them trying to bring it back was just a failure from the get go. It’ll never feel like it did back in the day.
This is what happens when you burn the fan base who was looking forward to g4 coming back. The NFT's frost and Adam literally calling for the death of people to the right of him politically
Also it's not sexist for men to want to watch hot women talk about video games. Saying that it is allows sexism to blanket cover every single "women's" gripe about men.
I think there were a lot of issues with G4, on top of the Frosk thing: I think the issue with G4 is their content was really bad, it relied on the personalities of their hosts, which most of them was just bad, bland, and dull. Otherwise, you can easily get game reviews, DnD game streams, attack of the show like content anywhere else via RUclips or Twitch at this point. Game reviews are a dime a dozen and most don't even go to publisher based reviewers anymore. So their whole show format was not only very outdated for TV, but it also copied what many others have done better and with actual personality to boot. I watched their DnD games recently on G4, the day before the cancellation announcement, and boy was it dull and boring. I saw some guy do dead pan bad acting of with Frosk just standing there in a dark room. It was like watching a group of office workers who hardly know each other play a game, with awkward silence in-between mandatory conversation. Dull. I could easily flip onto Critical Role with minor and some main celebs playing DnD and actually having a good time together, making jokes, being dramatic and selling me their story instead. So I think that's the biggest issue, G4 thought they would copy everything else online and the hosts would be so cool and fun that it would work. They didn't remotely make new or original content either, for a format like TV that requires it. I think they should have done what TechTV did. Be the OG Discovery channel like channel for Tech and Gaming. Do live streams of Cons all over the country, do documentaries on technology, new and old, do game reviews, anime reviews, cosplay reviews and shows, comicbook shows, etc. Be educational and entertaining. Then you can do the DnD thing, daily news coverage. viral video shows, and stuff. Content to balance out maybe some of the dead weight some of the hosts were to begin with. No offense to them, but some people just aren't exciting or charasmatic to be in front of a camera all the time carrying a show. Then the Frosk thing, to me, I will say I think what she had to say was legit and good overall,; she was apparently addressing some serious issues in the gaming industry etc. BUT I don't agree with how she did it, and how G4 handled it. Even Asmon said it, she came across as belittling of the viewership and self-rightous. And it came out of no where, like when everyone is having a good time at a party and then someone who has a issue just takes a shit in the middle of the floor - it was like that. Wrong place, wrong time. Now maybe something did happen before hand that made her feel like she had to say something - I dunno what happened before filming or whatever, but G4 failed to react to her obviously as she speaks about her script being not uploaded, so they knew what she was going to do. I think G4 should have done the right thing and had her address her issues and the like on a special, maybe a seperate show that explores those issues, allows for women and men to talk about the topics and concerns, etc. I would have preferred that, a more mature and actually beneficial route. And maybe it would give those who simply don't care, to not watch that on its own time slot etc. I think the topic is obviously something to be talked about and the like, esp with Blizzard having yet another sexual assualt/harassment lawsuit going on. So there is still something to be said there. SO there's my long rant. I think Frosk was icing on the cake to turn off a lot of people, but there were tons of other issues with how the channel was ran.
i dont think wanting to watch hot women talk about games is sexist. people generally prefer looking at what's nicer on the eyes. sexism is treating someone as an inferior person just for not being hot
Maaaan, Instead of talking about games and being entertaining, they wanted to be conscious/woke and provide less of a focus on giving the watchers a good time and providing them with good gaming news while being fun to watch. Sucks for the peeps who lost their job, hope they bounce back.
They were not doing a good job. Like sure like couple of people were good and did not deserve it, but a lot of them were doing kinda bad job. Like they are playing video games for living, the standards are not that high, but they kept fucking up. I haven't seen that much of it, cause I ain't paying for that, but from what i recall they had more technical difficulties and bad writing/production than average talk show. You don't go broke if you are doing a good job, and if someone is doing a bad job, even your boss you talk to them about it before you loose your job.
If you look at Frosk right at the end of her rant, you can see a mild panic set in as she realises shes gone too far. Her microexpressions give a lot away
@@DeathmetalPersian They clapped like seals, but the segment was edited so there's no telling how much editing trickery was done making it worse. One guy, at least, realized what just happened. g4 might have had a chance of recovering but they double, triple, quadrupled down and died on their strawman hill.
@@vangoghsseveredear They have these things called "work contracts" that say they will be fired for causing major disturbances with the show, you wouldn't have said anything either.
It isn't sexist to like to look at hot chicks. Now if you only respect the hot chicks and tell the other girls to eff off, then sure. The women on g4 back in the day knew what they were doing and they were fine with it. They didn't have to work there. But yeah, the whole appeal of g4 was game reviews by people people knew their shit, and hot chicks that are also geeks. If anything, it was sort if an attempt at helping women enter the gaming scene. They weren't saying you have to be hot, but they were saying "look gaming is cool now, even hot chicks like it".
I remember back in the day Froskurin was on League of Legends esports I always found them really dislikable because of how they brought up things. I more often then not agree with what they were saying but the way it is brought up made me feel like I should be the opposing thought. I think Froskurin is always their worst enemy.

They didn't lol The original G4 launched in April 2002 and was shut down at the end of 2014. The revival was last November. This rant happened in January. They didn't even make it a full year.
There isn’t a sexism problem in gaming. There’s a trash talking problem in gaming and that’s because they aren’t face to face. Trash talkers just grasp onto whatever they can to make fun of you. And if you’re a girl then it’s your gender…
@@RuecianGray yeah I’d say that’s true. I just hate when I hear the victim card about sexism in the sense that they think they’re getting more shit talked because they’re female when in fact everyone gets it. But yeah and to add to what you said the gaming circle is definitely more male so when there are girls they can be bombarded with tons of guys trying to talk to them.
@@RuecianGray true but its just the pros and cons of our genders. as a guy the good thing is noone gives a f about you but the bad thing is no one gives a f about you. for women its the same. yes they get harrased for being females but they also get lots of attention and preferential treatment as a trade off. everyone gives an f about them. its annoying sometimes but its also harder for them to truly ever be alone. hell asmon himself said in mmos guy use girl alias to get friends, materials, companionship and preferential treatment overall a more inviting experience so even dudes are trying to utilize the advantage. so im hardpressed to see them as victims more than just a variant to the general harrassment we've all faced.
Another massive part to this that most don't acknowledge is the merging of men and women into common social spaces. In the past the world of men and women were very separate. If it's going to work out there will be growing pains. I'm not %100 convinced it will in the end. I see people will likely just leave, men and women.
There's no big mystery to it. They relaunched a TV station that LITERALLY ALREADY FAILED ONCE without much being changed, several more years removed from the time when television was actually relevant to younger generations, and competing with an entire established ecosystem of popular RUclips creators and Twitch streamers. I thought it was doomed to fail from the nanosecond they announced it was coming back.
I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking they TRIED to give her an out behind the scenes. It could’ve been swept under a rug MUCH easier if she’d been “off the cuff”. But she intentionally wrote a preachy, unentertaining speech.
Nah...there is all the "isms" in gaming, and they've always been there. Sexist, racists, ageists, homophobics. Calling it out in the way that she did was her way of trying to shame the people who don't like her. Olivia Munn was hot and all the fans thought so, but she didn't claim to be some expert on games. She wasn't even on a gaming show. AOTS wasn't about video games. Morgan Webb did come off as an expert, and we loved her. Thats why she was on a gaming show. Blair Butler talked about comics, and i loved that shit because she knew what she was talking about. Her opinions held water. Frosk always came off as an idiot. We didn't hate her because we thought she was ugly or because she's a woman. We hated her because she doesn't know shit about games, yet she was on a show about games. It sucks that people are judging her on looks or the fact she's a female, but that isn't the whole audience, and it definitely isn't all the people that couldn't stand her. You can't lump all your haters into 1 group and call them all sexist. Dumb fuck.
There was no freaking way this was going to profit from the get go. They spent 30 million on the studio alone, that's before talent, staff, running the network, etc. Who ever made that call doomed the thing before it got off the ground. They should have started small and grew. Then again an indictment of comcast planning is the fact they own a stream service and g4 was put on it, advertised on it or their other avenues. There was just 0 planning going into it's first year. Frosk certainly didn't help, but I just didn't see how they'd make it to 2-3 years.
Here's the thing about how men and women are judged differently though: that's not a bad thing. Because men and women ARE different. We're equal, both in the eyes of God and the law. But we are inherently, intrinsically different, and that's not a result of the rules of our society. The rules of our society are the result of it. So yes, Men judge women, on a superficial level, by their looks. And guess what? Women judge men, on a superficial level, by their money and status. Both are shallow, just in different ways. The trouble with feminism is it, as the name implies, is completely one-sided in its perspective. And it doesn't bother with nuanced issues, like human nature, biological drives, or toxic femininity. It is concerned only with what is expedient, not what is True. A flaw it shares with the Left at large.
The amaranth situation shows that no one touches grass or has a real relationship anymore. Stay off the internet in all shapes for a year and go find a relationship then come back a year later and you'll understand much better what the real world is like.
Outside of the niche for G4 completely evaporating about 10 years ago, the people spearheading this new G4 just seemed to antagonize any small amount of audience that did try to watch it at every possible turn.
G4's failure has been 15+ years in the making. Even it's beginning was tainted by underhanded business tactics. I remember when I was a teenager, when ZDTV/TechTV was a great channel, before being bought and turned into the dumpster fire G4. Shows like Screensavers and Call For Help are responsible for my early interest in technology because of the charisma and passion of the hosts. G4 was almost universally hated from the very beginning by the fans and the old hosts alike, and almost every original host left within two years of the merger.
ZDTV and TechTV were so good. Rev3 had some decent stuff too like Techzilla. G4 had a few decent ideas at the very start but it quickly deteriorated imo. I used to enjoy E3 coverage on G4.

The "Frosk Rant" killed G4 months ago, it just took a while for them to realize it.
This.
I am just glad I don't have to watch her ruining LoL broadcasts. Although the pouty face fiasko during casting of one of her last appearances was hillarious. Still she will blame it on everyone else, not addressing the fact that she is extremely unlikeable.
G4 was trying to provide us a service that we already have.
The Frosk Rant was a symptom of the disease that spread and eventually killed the channel. It was not the disease itself.
To sum it up:
1- frost knows shit about gaming
2- She got called out for this
3- She pulled out a victim card, insulted fans and told them to go away
4- The network supported this
5- They went broke.

People definitely get hung up on hyper focused views of sexism or bigotry and begin to lose sight of harassment itself being a problem.

Scott the woz could have saved them
I felt like I was being yelled at by the next door neighbor's parents, not mine, about something I didn't do.

The cheering frosk got during that segment... oh man, she was feeling herself so hard, it just kept going and going.

"sexism is a huge issue" I agree, the amount of people insulting someone elses dick size is insane these days >_>

And the next one to come along will not learn. They'll repeat the same mistake
When g4 came back and seemed to be more focused on including every group of people instead of games, I knew it was over before it began
she called other girls hoes, while having a segment about sexism.... Crazy man
G4TV mainly failed because no one likes condescending A-Holes being passive aggressive in a "this totally isn't bothering me even though it obviously does" way.
G4 bought TechTV in 2004, mainly to get X-Play. They ruined Screen Savers, then turned it into Attack of the Show. G4 ruined the content TechTV had.
Yeah I thought it was cancelled ages ago
G4TV should have know not to touch Frosk, especially after Riot dropped her for causing internal drama behind the scenes. And of course she attacked the one person who was known for being a all around genuine nice person.

Also it's not sexist for men to want to watch hot women talk about video games. Saying that it is allows sexism to blanket cover every single "women's" gripe about men.
I think there were a lot of issues with G4, on top of the Frosk thing:
I think the issue with G4 is their content was really bad, it relied on the personalities of their hosts, which most of them was just bad, bland, and dull.

Exactly, people act like women are the only ones who get harassed online. This is the internet… everyone gets harassed.

Dumb fuck.
I would have loved to heard more on the take of game design and how there are differences between the live service vs the base game. Ann and sexism
Is that Dragon Age: Origins theme song? Nostalgia is kicking in.
Thanks Frosk. You won't be missed. Peace.
And that Adam turd
@@Sir_Catnip is that the guy that hates conservatives and says they should "drink pee"?
@@Forbidden_0ne Yep exactly....dude is atypical hateful woke leftoid
There was no freaking way this was going to profit from the get go. They spent 30 million on the studio alone, that's before talent, staff, running the network, etc. Who ever made that call doomed the thing before it got off the ground. They should have started small and grew. Then again an indictment of comcast planning is the fact they own a stream service and g4 was put on it, advertised on it or their other avenues. There was just 0 planning going into it's first year. Frosk certainly didn't help, but I just didn't see how they'd make it to 2-3 years.
15:12 what a laugh. Like men aren’t judged by their looks AND their hobbies, their job, their personality, etc. judged just as much of not more.
Asmon is such a damn simp
4:35 you can generally see the disappointment on Adam's face when she had attitude about her script not being put in on time.
Yeah she may be reading the same scripts as the others but people will more often respond to character traits rather than what shes saying.
That's fucking impossible in this day and age. People like this don't need relationships they need help.
Talking about NFTs was the LEAST of their problems... Frosk and Adam Sessler were main instruments of G4's destruction lol
Only reason I watched g4 back in the day was Morgan Webb ❤
Outside of the niche for G4 completely evaporating about 10 years ago, the people spearheading this new G4 just seemed to antagonize any small amount of audience that did try to watch it at every possible turn.
Kevin Pereira viewbotted his other Twitch channel and got banned. I think it was called "The Attack" or something.
I remember tuning in and thinking, wow, this will never work on twitch, lol
“In our culture” dude in the very culture men want to look at hot woman unless they are weird
