The Star Changes are Bad! Here's Why - LOTR: Heroes of Middle Earth

- Stars are getting a huge boost, but this is really bad news for anyone who won't be purchasing 7 stars on every new character.
Come to my Discord server to discuss the game: / discord Игры
I like this change. I was honestly surprised adding stars was so weak. Farming stars has always been important in these types of games. What people are really complaining about is that they stopped at 4 stars and now have to play catchup to people that kept going all the way to 7 stars. Also, as a ftp player while the gold crunch is real you just need to save for those extra stars just like saving various resources in any other game.
I do think stars should be important, but the power increases are to the point where gear and levels are significantly undercut in terms of what gives a character power. A 400% increase in power is absolutely crazy. Stars should matter, but to that level.
@@McMole2TheRealMcMole2 Is there similar charts for levels and gear tier? I think it needs t be put into perspective. I believe currently stars matter the least which is a problem, but what will it look like after the change?
@darkgnar6604 there is some charts. I'll have to find them. 7 stars now give something like a 30-40% boost in stats where it used to be in the 15-20% range. Gear tiers were the most important, with consistent 10-15% increases. The issue with stars were your lower stars not really giving a boost. Those got no changes while high stars did.
Farming guild characters is easy, but I need that rare ability mats from guild campaign 5. Also with current economy of the game I still think using that much energy and gold to upgrade stars above 4 is not enough returns. Hopefully this will change in the future.
I understand CG's desire to make Star level more relevant but a smaller stat increase with an improved Gold economy is probably a more ideal middle ground. Excellent video, very fair.
Whilst I'm no fan of CG, I'll be fair and say that it seems like a problem a lot of dev teams have, where they buff a feature with very little thought given to how it will impact the game, then when the complaints come in, they over-react and bring in the nerf hammer, going completely over the top with the reaction. It's one extreme to the other. Like you pointed out, fixing the gold economy is even more important now that they're buffing star stats
It totally feels like having only a 2* halbrad or a 3* elladan is not worth it, if we are going to get farmable characters to at least 5* we have to have more gold available.
respectfully disagree, having to farm 500 shards to get a character to 6 and 7 stars should reflect a large power increase. In terms of gear not being as significant anymore I think it is important to note that more gear tiers are going to be added and will greatly increase in power scaling for future gear tiers. Also the screenshots from the raid only showed the early rewards for the personal track and nothing from guild rewards so I would think there will be more gold rewards in higher reward brackets. I do think as the game stands the star level increases look unbalanced but will be less important in the long term.
But for how much it costs to upgrade stars, the stat boost should definitely have been bigger.
They definitely should have mattered more. But a 200% increase at 7 stars is overboard.
One interesting part is its far easier to get a 7* character from guild campaign, so could well be worth getting some of those to 7*. For example, MASSIVE boost to Ironhide, already a beast, boost his stats by 200% and he is a KRAKEN!
If you have the gold to actually promote them.
This game doesn't feel like it comes from a company with years of experience in the exact same game. I just finished pippin 7* and finished sam's journey 2-1. The first mission is the hardest now
Its good they are making this change now rather than in say December. Even though it's been 2-months global, launch, it still feels like a soft launch of the game and maybe in Q1 next year, it will feel more like a game that it should have felt like on Global Launch.
I focused on hobbits since begin of game so this seems nice to me... I can already beat an average elrond team with under 4000k dmg glad i went for hobbits they Rock
Very fair analogy. They should've had this fixed prior to Global launch. They really didn't think this through. The gold economy in this game has been horrible since start. The daily rewards are a slap in the face mediocre. Boilon went a step farther on some of the packs advertised in game with gear and gold and showed guild 4 or 5 w/ 2 refreshes was cheaper than what they showed you could buy the pack for.
MSF did a similar star adjustment back in the day, and it didn't break the game and doing it early is better than later on. I doubt this will make any difference for light spenders and F2P because it's still too expensive to star up these characters, only now it will be worthwhile to do so instead of worthless as it was before. The timing does feel like a bait and switch with Elrond and the elves, and screwing over your spenders when there hasn't been any content added to the game and aside from this change the only things we've seen drop for the game has been lots of purchasable offers is an insane business model, but I don't think this is really a bad change, it's not the change we needed though such as not pay walling gold which should be the f2p currency. That should have already been done and dragging their heels on it is killing the game
The only thing this does is make battles go faster in PVP. The balance affects all players. If they changed the rate at which people geared/starred their characters, then I would understand the concern. As it stands people are already able to spend their way past F2P.
This means my hobbits will get stronger. Death to Halbrand mwahaha
I'm honestly considering a meme video of upgrading my Hobbits and just demolishing Elrond teams when this goes live
It might not look like it now, but there’s more to the game than arena. And this is great for ftp players who can get stars easily
Thanks for update
It's not bad. What was bad is the lack of stat scaling with higher stars. The changes put it on par with other similar games. It is better for everyone.
Brute just got a huge nerf
Ya im stuck on gold. The bottleneck is real.
I would like to see that statement. Isengard 7* vs elves. I still think the elves win with their kit.
I would say I don’t like your take but it was kind of a rambling and not sure i fully understand what your take is other then you don’t like it. Think this is a fine change, I’d prefer they did this from launch but also understand it’s probably has to do with raid balance and individual difficulty balancing. As a 5* Elrond holder I have yet to come across a 5* ftp team and am completely fine with those we spent $1200 to have a more clear advantage.
This really feels like a FTP nerf.
Naaaa look at it this way… farm the FTP nodes… 7* isengard team minus Morzha + IH. 2 of them are on guild nodes… FTP team will beat a team that people spend thousands of dollars on 😂
Nah this is a great change you have to play the long game like swgoh
@@DankHillCometh mcmole said it hurts the spenders who bought elrond. I say it hurts F2P more. If you call me oit on this, why won't you also call out mcmole?
@@DankHillComethI played SWGOH for 4 yrs as a F2P and consistently held top 50 arena and top 3 fleet. I also had 161 out of my 186 characters at 7* and my entire roster max level.
Ive been playing LOTR since it launched and I still only have 1 character that's 7* because they were in guild. My highest light/shadow campaign char I farm is only at 4* and I avg 2-4 shards a day. We will quite literally get left in the dust and will be lucky as hell if we can promote a 10th char to 7* within a year.
I get what you are saying but the star buff also applies to the 5* elf teams so I’m not entirely sure this is a legitimate argument
You'll basically have a mix of 7 star guild farmable characters that can run right over a 5 star elrond team. That's how drastic these changes are.
@@McMole2TheRealMcMole2 I hear you but I am not sure I understand the math just yet
@@dawsonking7893 let's put it this way: a 7 star pippin will now outheal Halbarad until you upgrade Hal to 7 stars as well.
@@McMole2TheRealMcMole2Now it exactly the other way around, most build are just not viable.
I like the change and Im free to play. Stary upgrades didnt count enough, like it wasnt worth upgrading.
It’s EA. I expected no less. They are all about the money! I’m about ready to send this game the way of MSF.
It was bad in all ways. Bad for Whales. Bad for FTP and Dolphins (raises hand). Bad timing, right after Elrond completes. It doesn't even allow them to "whale harder" because Elrond is gone for a few months? But then again who knows. Arwen is on the gem store so maybe they can whale harder? Bad communication. No need to elaborate there. Bad perception. Bad bad bad bad bad bad. We all need to vote 1 star and stop spending. I got Elrond and I am very upset. I could just went Isengard and done much better. Save my gold and mats. I also bought Halbarad an I am pissed. I should just quit, but maybe they listen and don't go live. If it does go live without some detailed justification that makes sense or some sort of compensation for the bait and switch they pulled off, I am done.
Oh man I hadn't even though about players who were grinding halbarad shards. All that to get outhealed by a 7 star pippin
Why tf do people put that kind of money into a mobile title? That's just nutty.
Just means I'm maxing out Pippin and the Ogre first. Their shards are easy.
Also, do you know if character pack specials will circle around again? I missed the Hobbits and I wish I hadn't.
They've said the packs will not recirculate, but they are open to considering resending some packs again
@McMole2TheRealMcMole2 Thx. I hope so.
With the amount of resources needed to get the higher star levels, shouldn't a 7 star character be substantially better than a 5 star? I just don't understand why people think higher star levels shouldn't add a significant power boost? Not to mention as future gear levels are added, the base stat boost of star levels will become less significant.
There's already a significant stat boost for 7 star characters, where 5 star characters are already having trouble with those punch ups. This is taking it to another unnecessary level.
@McMole2TheRealMcMole2 I understand the desire to be able to punch up, but I think as gear levels get added the Star level stats will become less and less significant.
I dont see anything in this game to justify spending money, time or worry on it to be honest.
And I like LOTR content but Im just gonna casually play and accumulate while not giving a damn about what happens in Arena. Because really everything else is your pace.
Arena just makes you get into a rat race of needing this or that. Just enjoy the game.
Meh. You’ll want most toons at 7* anyway. Same as SWGOH.
I think the star change is good too....but they really need to fix the Gold economy. They do that, and it becomes a positive for f2p and whales . (Sorry dolphins, not everybody can win(
CG: screwing everybody over since time began.
I just don't understand how the studio releases a brand new game with so many bottlenecks. Don't they want the game to succeed? Or did they make enough money with SWGOH to not care?
This game is designed for people to spend 1000’s of dollars a month. If one isn’t in this category, just play to have fun. Eventually you’ll quit as there’s nothing to actually do.
right now you have nothing to do lol and spent thousands of dollars to actualy to do something in the game xD
what people were thinking that 5 stars going to dominate the arena? let's be real this is the mobile game wallet is king. You don't spent you can't climb that's simple. Nobody cares about free to play you have to please top arena heavy spenders
Even your top end arena players are unhappy with this change, which goes to show how unpopular this change is.
@@McMole2TheRealMcMole2 in my opinion is just too early to push such changes, they had one year in beta to balance things before the raid. I bet they adjusting star power to make raids fair, not to break the balance after the release of raids.
@@kurrwa I think this indicates that they are still doing testing and don't have things figured out. That worries me.
@@McMole2TheRealMcMole2 agree they want to push sales for the next legendary lord so people will more likely spend to get it to 7 stars instead 5 stars
It’s the exact opposite of the what the game needs right now and really shows they have no clue what they are doing with this game.
Just mind-bogglingly bad
they exactly know what they are doing, you are just not heavy spender so you feel offended
@@kurrwa heavy spenders should be offended by this too
It’s bad game design from any perspective
If a 7* Isengard team beats a 5* Elrond this game is 💩. Just proves that CG scammed everyone with thousands of dollars
What?!?? Lol it's called a "counter" and the ONLY way to keep these games balanced is to NOT push power creep unless a counter already exists or is on the horizon.
Under that logic there is no point to invest in any toons because all of them have an answer. Like how Ugluk can single handedly shut down Ironhide.
These star changes were necessary, they went a little hard on how much stars boost stats at the late end, but before stars were simply NOT worth the gold. Now they'll be worth every single gold you spend on it.
You want your year long account to FEEL like a year long account.
SOOOO many players lack foresight, it's kinda silly.
@@Zephyrt3mp3st it’s not called a counter you bafoon I’ve been playing swgoh from 2016 and know what I’m talking about. The real counter to Elf’s will be haradrim or any other composition that Lich King needs. Stay silent little boy and let the gown ups play
@@Zephyrt3mp3st u expecting 💩 tier list composition to beat markee S tier characters, your making me laugh
absolutely agree. The change is detrimental to 99% of the player base, at least at this time.
Stars are the advantage of whales!
We FTP players haven't any resources to promote our characters
This is definitely a bad take. This is good for the overall health of the game. Stars should be king and this is pro guild characters which is pro F2P
Having such a massive change 2 months into the launch of game, and right after the first legendary event is over. Not to mention there was also a full year of open beta for them to determine such a drastic change.
i think your math is wrong. thus, all the logic that follows
