Oh man, the DuckTales reboot delves into Huey, Dewey, and Louie's Mom. It was a nice story arc. And a treat for fans of the NES DuckTales game.
Morlun really made an impact to me when he first showed up. I remember reading and seeing Peter just trying to survive, blindly throwing punches! The art was sickkkk. I actually like it web of life stuff but I can appreciate how it's now everyone's cup of tea
1:04:02 I think the funniest thing about Ben is that Kaine has been the “good heroic spider-clone” longer then Ben ever was
I listened to this episode on Spotify while I was stuck in traffic and I actually enjoyed the drive... Great episode.
Btw... WE ALL NEED MORE FREAKAZOID, it's been too long :(
A DJ crossover? An unexpected surprise, but a welcome one!
Hell yeah! Bonus Spiderversity!
This is a really good episode. Dj and sal are a dope combo
Whatttt please please please have DJ for the Absolutely weekly Podcast
Edit: TAKE MY MONEY!!!
I’m only In my 20s but I was OBSESSED with Freakzoid as a kid. Im starting to think my parents were bigger nerds than they let on 😭 everytime Sal references a show I’ve seen it. I even still sing the Freakzoid theme song WORD FOR WORD till this day
To be fair, I don't know the difference between Absolutely and Absolute Comics either...
Ones the comic focused show The other is pop culture
@@chowderman8888 I've been watching since it was TWP. I just never pay attention when I click tbh. The thumbnails look the same.
Little personal experience: I’m a 24 year old who loves the superhero world and these channels but never picked up a comic. I recently heard about Uncanny Spider-Man (Two of my favourite heroes) and thought this could be it, my first comic book.
And as an Australian, I couldn’t find an easy or affordable way to buy it (granted, I didn’t try THAT hard, but point still stands). So I never bought it, and now it’s less of a priority because it’s happened now and not quite as exciting as it was.
Comics have certainly felt like its own little impenetrable bubble to me over the years. Had I been shown or offered one when I was younger, I would almost certainly have read them.
Good to see DJ here, been enjoying the xmen reviews he and Sal have been doing!
Goddamn it love the Sal/DJ get together
I feel like you guys stayed on track really well in this one. Although i enjoy the tangents so maybe I'm not the best judge. 😂
Secret DJ and Sal show let's go 🤘🤘
That Scrooge McDuck book sounds like a fever dream.
DJ is afraid of tangents, does he know what show he's on!?
Empyre was streets ahead of king in black
Loved the episode! Just commenting to please the algorithm.
The best name for this era of comics is the cinematic era, starting in 2000.
I believe it’s Thursdays for video games most updates and patches drop on tuesdays
To be fair regarding King in Black making a dig at Empyre, its not the first time that something like this has been done. Annihilation and the subsequent Nova series essentially makes jabs at Civil War with Richard Rider calling out Tony when he comes back to Earth that them respectively smashing their opposing action figures while billions died from the Annihilation Wave is horrendous and I say this as someone that actually enjoyed Empyre.
I’m here for the freakazoid talk
DJ hell yeah!
I agree, Ben Reilly should have been made the "Spider-Man" of Chicago.
It wasn’t cuz they changed to Lunar at all. DJ was kind of right in that DC’s reason at the time is cuz graphic novels/prose books whatever release on Tuesdays so they didn’t want to have 2 sales dates- probably a corporate decision- but fans and retailers asked to go back ever since so they changed it back to Wednesdays
I watch both series of teen titans. and go. I love em both!
I love Sal.
This episode has a lot to unpack. I love the discussion but I have soo many opinions. I'll respond later but on first pass please let Hickman take care of the Parkers please. Two issues in I got Spider-Man love I haven't had since the 90's
I just went to my LCS asking for Freakazoid merch
I think the uncle Scrooge 'in his first self titled book ever' might be a technicality of sorts if I'm not mistaken. I think he has had runs in stuff like four color comics or Walt Disney comics and stories or one of those books that were a bunch of runs of the characters/ideas/properties but had the numbering of the title masthead. Uncle Scrooge for example had his run for a few half dozen issues of four color which technically were actually runs of Scrooge but had the four color numbering (if it was four color, or whatever title it was). I think that's how Marvel can technically get away with calling this latest book tht first actual solo scrooge book since it kinda is maybe depending on what one thinks... Confusing as hell.
OMG DJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ayyy DJ
Great. Having Norman Osborn go back to being evil Green goblin again. Yay, one step forward two steps back. Tho should have figured they would do that. Heaven forbid they have some actual development with their characters...
As a fan of both manga and comics I would love a New Marvel Manga verse and have thought for a few years that a Mangfied iron Fist with a strong Dragon ball/YuuYuu Hakusho/One Piece influence would be great. An X-men or Spider-man comic that borrows a lot from Early My Hero Academia and the Ultimate Spider-man Cartoon.
Also, maybe more slice of life/romance comics set in using the X-men or She Hulk or other characters like Peter Parker.
DJ!
I’m really conflicted on Absolute Power, because Mark Waid and Dan Mora I’m sold but the actual concept taking away the heroes powers is really stupid and kinda boring,
a lot of superhero’s their powers are part of their biology, what are they going to do to takeaway Diana’s godhood? or stop Superman’s cells from reacting to yellow sunlight? And what about Batman who doesn’t have any powers!
Triple Trouble would have been a better name than the Trinity Of Evil.
👍
I won't hold it against this event, but I'm so tired of Amanda waller. She's been in the background of a lot of school books for years. And she's been prominent in most of the other DC media. Movies, TV shows , cartoons
Sal got me into comic world. I don’t like reading them i prefer to hear him talk about them. But one of the few comics I have read was the spider verse one and fuck morlun. Hated him and everything he stood for.
Fo sho comics are way too messy and I can’t find good grounded stories especially with DC and Marvel. I dropped off mid last year.
I think we've been in a slump period since the halfway point/near end of Geoff Johns Doomsday Clock, it was extremely hyped up as the next Watchmen or The Dark Knight Returns and it didn't meet expectations and frankly was very disappointing.
Bendis also came to DC and kind of ruined the best Superman run ever and also along with Tom Taylor ruined Jon Kent. Jon Kent's Superboy represented a lot of hope, optimism and youthfulness that DC really needed and then Bendis and Taylor straight up killed that character.
For Marvel around that time we had Jonathan Hickman come to X-Men and it felt like he revitalized not just X-Men but all of Marvel with his return and then left half way through, which also felt like a blow.
With that said, Hickman's Ultimate run is fantastic and so is Waid's Worlds Finest and Tom King's 12 issue miniseries are also wonderful. If we can get more A Star writers like this rather than B star writers like Zdarsky (I would have considered him higher until he wrote the Knight), Tom Taylor, and C-List writers like James Tynion(only got his shot because of nepotism), Tim Seeley, Steve Orlando, Zeb Wellls who like controversy and changing characters more than good writing (these "writers" were given too much freedom), then I think we can get back on track. There's plenty of great writers out there it's DC & Marvel's job to find the great ones, and keep mediocre writers in check.
James Tyion and Tim Seely are not c list. Tyions books for DC black label,Image comics, Dark horse, and boom studios have been stellar and Tim Seely has been killing it with LOCAL MAN and Hack/slash.
