    I'm not in LA but I can travel to castings and auditions, what do you suggest?

    • @TheActorsAcademy
      @TheActorsAcademy  6 лет назад +19

      Travel by plane, train, or car? I know some actors who do by car (talking long commutes) and/or train. Mark Ruffalo, use to take the train all the time.
      Here’s the first thing to consider, can you financially do it? You may get auditions the night before, day of, or a few days in advance. There is not specific schedule that you get for auditioning, so that’s the first thing to consider.
      The next thing is, even though you may be fine with making those trips, agents may not be. Now that’s not to say there aren’t agents who may accommodate, but they can sometimes be difficult to find (unless you perhaps want to sign with a really small agency who needs clients, but I don’t always recommend that).
      If you’re fine with the commute and can afford it, than you could possibly search for the agent, but I’m telling you right now, that life style will get old VERY fast. Something you could offer them is you will do video submissions and fly out for any callbacks. Again hard to find agents like that, but they are out there.
      If you move out here, I suggest it be for some other reason, NOT ACTING. Acting should only be centered around your life, rather than your life around it. I say this, because this industry is very hard to make it in. You wanna of course give it your best, but need to know it’s a very hard industry.
      Hope that all makes sense.

      You can start at any age. Sometimes the younger you are the more possibilities you might have, but truly you can act at any age. It is not an easy business though and most actors don’t make it successfully, so it’s important to realize that. Great video. I do have a question though. I've been watching other acting videos and they say to get an agent, the only time the agent gets money is if you're enrolled into a production (they're basically saying that you don't have to pay an agent to help u find casting calls, but they get paid once you get accepted). Is this true or false?

    • @TheActorsAcademy
      @TheActorsAcademy  5 лет назад +3

      That’s correct. An agent will only take a percentage of what you make when you’ve booked a project. This gives the agent incentive to helping you book. So if you make money, than they make money. If you don’t make any money than they too will not make any money. Hope that helps, best of luck :)

    What age is the best to start acting

    • @TheActorsAcademy
      @TheActorsAcademy  6 лет назад +2

      That all depends. It depends on location, finance, and your age within all that. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any other factors, but those are some of the primary ones.
      If you’re close to LA and your child and your parents are financially stable enough to take you to many auditions and have time to sit in traffic that’s an option, most parents don’t care of that though haha. I wouldn’t suggest they do this though if their out of state. I’d say to try and find casting in your potential local area.
      If you’re a teen it’s the same thing unless you have the ability to drive, then it’s just your time put in to the auditions.
      If you’re 18 and up than you can consider going to school somewhere by LA or wherever you choose (not encouraging or discouraging drama school, but rather encouraging some sort of degree). This way if you never make it after 4 years, you still got a degree out of all that time.
      Hope that makes sense.

      They aren’t necessarily wrong. It’s a hard and tricky business to get into. It takes a lot of time and commitment. I first suggest testing acting out, maybe doing self submissions in the mean time. That way you’re testing it first. You will need your parents support, but you’re still young and you have your whole life to pursue acting. Maybe now isn’t the right time, but sometime in the next decade may be your moment.

    Hey I have a question. I'd be grateful if you answer. Can only white people try for films and seasons? I am an Asian and I'm very much interested in acting in English movies. What chances do I have to get good roles? And if I do have any, what things will I have to face? Is there any discrimination? Or any special criteria that I'll have to meet? Can my accent or my skin color be a hindrance? I have been looking for an answer to this question for very long. Please let me know.

    • @TheActorsAcademy
      @TheActorsAcademy  4 года назад

      You can book a part no matter what your race is, it just depends on what is being cast for. If they are casting a 3 foot blonde dude or 6’ 10” body builder, well then I’m not going to get the part. It depends what’s being cast for and if you fit the vision of what the director is looking for.
      To act in the American film industry (as an example, there are many film industry around the world though, you just need to pick the one you want), you’ll at least want to be able to speak English well (for the American film industry). Just like if I wanted to act in the German film industry, I’d need to speak German. In terms of an accent, it all depends. It depends if they want an accent for the role being cast for. I think one should keep and honor their own accent, but I also believe it’s a good idea to do both. Your accent and an American accent. It can potentially open you up to more roles to audition for, for parts with or without an accent.
      The last thing to do though, is blame someone or something for your not booking, I see actors do it all the time. It doesn’t matter what gender or race you are, most actors never book anything significant, because the film industry itself is very very hard to break into, but sometimes it’s easier to blame than to accept the fact that this is not an easy market to get into.
      Hope this helps 👍🏼

      if your parents job is an agent then of course they can, but if not they cant really. this is because an agent is seeing these opportunities that you don’t get to see, and your parents wouldn’t have any way of receiving those casting calls and opportunities. i’m pretty and at explaining, does that make sense? 💕 good luck

    Sorry but what is a headshot?

      Hey, I’m not Felix but I can help you here. A headshot is a picture of you taken professionally. This picture is used for your acting resume, websites as well as physical copies for auditions etc

    I've auditioned for a role and was offered the part, do I still need an agent and headshots before filming starts?

      I’m assuming this is for a short film or lower budget production, am I correct?

      Yes you're correct

    • @TheActorsAcademy
      @TheActorsAcademy  5 лет назад +1

      For this specific production (since you’ve already booked it) you wouldn’t need a headshot or agent. For most projects though you will want a headshot, in order to get an audition. The agent is up to you. You wouldn’t need one now for this project, but if you want more audition opportunities and for hopefully bigger projects, than I’d suggest looking into getting an agent.
      Hope that helps!

      Kimber Nicole Same it hard to find big acting jobs around here but I would recommend using this website Dragonukonnects.com first you make an account which is pretty easy and it lists different auditions in the area like Maryland, DC just areas close in general, and it’s great to just get experience with it and build your resume . Actors Access is also a good website but to send an audition it costs money and for some other things.

      you don’t pay for agents if they ask for money up front it’s a scam they only get like 10/20% of what you make

      It is almost always a red flag when you need to pay to be with an agency. Agents are supposed to only take 10%-20% of what you make when you book a project. This gives the agent the incentive to send you out for auditions and for you to want to book these parts. If you have to pay to be with the agency, than most likely you should stay away from them.

    Great vids you're doing. Our daughter is an actress and voicoever actress, but we just can't find the right agent (or mgmt for that matter) being here in Delaware. We are not able to simply move to LA or NY, but we've had many representations - ALL of which have done absolutely NOTHING to get any real gigs for our daughter. Is there an actual list where they are actually "open" to receiving submissions? We've had tons of casting peeps tell us she should be on Disney & Nick but no one has done diddly squat. :) her site is: ariannafox.com in case you wanted to peek. Thanks.
