- A favourite pastime of mine in the late 80's was to get to the footy early to watch the Reserves play and switch on the radio to 3LO to listen to the banter of the Coodabeen Champions.
Through Greg Champion and others they reworked famous songs to a football theme and played a track each week - such as "Fitzroy, You're Going To Miss Lee Murnane".
I have added some unrelated video footage of a 1984 Geelong v Fitzroy match.

i encourage everyone to go down and watch the fitzroy reds play when the footy season is back on support the boys who carry on the memory of such a great club which was treated so badly.
We used to listen to this album in the car on the way to the footy every week. Reminds me of being a kid.
Doug Searle & Norm Dare, once came to my school. So, yeah, I got a soft spot for the red,blue & gold.
Billy Lokan was my P.E. teacher.Great bloke as well.
Even though I have been one for Essendon since 1983, I have to agree with the jist of this song - Fitzroy had been a sort of lovable side for many years. I have to believe that it is a shame that old Fitzroy is now gone from the scene.

Because Fitzroy is the most loveable team we've got.
Now if Fitzroy was the only team within the football league.
I don't think anybody would be seriously aggrieved (Except for Collingwood).
Well they'd still olay their games out with character and flair.
Even if the opposition simply wasn't there.

Now Fitzroy as a team are a fairly good bunch.
Except for Darren Wheildon you could take them home for lunch.
They're well presented, well behaved, they cause no offense.
With the possible exception of James Minson.
Now, Fitzroy is the team in the red, gold, and blue.
There's a little bit of me in them and I know there's some if you.
There's a little bit of everybody else you know too.
And if yiu want to lose to one team then it's Fitzroy.

they may be based in Brisbane now, but their heart is still in Fitzroy!
