    I’ve just received this lens as well for the FX3 it’s quite amazing what you can do and the quality it has.
    I like your framing very much and the depth that you give to your pictures. Letterbox effect gives a cinema look which I like.

      It’s my favourite lens by far, and yes I much prefer the wider aspect ratio, I think it just narrows your attention more and makes framing more interesting.

      You’ll love it Gerald, I can’t believe how good this lens is! I didn’t even mention how much I like the aperture ring!
      It’s an expensive lens for sure, I actually traded in three Canon L primes for it but it was worth it!

    Awesome film, crazy cinematic lense, very heavy but i guess thats the compromise, just got mine, can't wait to use it outside!
    Was this filmed with slog3 and sony lut added in post?

      Thanks. Yes I love this lens too, it was shot using ProRes Raw on the Ninja V which is using sLog 3. This used the Leeming Lut.

    What filter would you recommend?

    • @PaulJoy

      Hi Andrey. This was shot with the Peter McKinnon 2-5 VND which is a great VND however I prefer using fixed ND filters as they do not have a negative effect on the image at high levels. I use the vaxis IRND filters with the Tilta Mirage Matte Box the most. The only other filters I generally use are Black Pro Mist to soften the image a little.

    Great footage … question: I have the Gmaster 80mm 1.4… in that case, is it still worth to get the 50mm considering the high price ?

    • @PaulJoy
      @PaulJoy  2 года назад +1

      I’m assuming you mean the 85mm? It’s really hard to say whether somebody else needs a focal length, for me 50mm is more practical than an 85 but they both have their uses. Do you feel you could do with being a little wider when shooting on the 85? If so then maybe the 50 would be a nice addition and it’s certainly my favourite of the g masters.

      Yeah my bad... of course the 85mm ... its also a great lens ... but agree the 50mm is a more practical length... it also matches the audio better... seems I have to get it

    Very nice shots! Beautiful color! Could you explain your process working with ProRes raw? Profile? How did you expose, which programme did you work in and compared to the internal files, is there a huge difference? Thank you!

      Hi Michael - Thats a good idea for a follow up video but as a quick answer I used S-log 3 recorded to the Ninja V as ProRes Raw. I used ETTR (Expose To The Right) and applied Paul Leemings LUT in FCPX. I wouldn't say theres a huge difference in final image quality, certainly by the time it gets to RUclips however the ProRes files are higher in resolution (4.2K), they don't have the in camera noise reduction or lens corrections and are 12 bit instead of 10 so they will likely result in marginally better quality, especially when pushed in grading.
      Having the ability to adjust ISO and White Balance in post is fantastic and it's so much faster to offload the footage and edit it. I don't have to render anything and it's buttery smooth.
      I hope that helps.
