An Honest Protestant's Response to "Jon Adams Ministries" - The Cameron Bertuzzi Announcement
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 13 сен 2024
- "Jon Adams Ministries" published a critique of Cameron Bertuzzi who announced that he is entering RCIA on a journey into full communion with the Catholic Church. In the comments under "Jon Adams Ministries" video, an honest Protestant whose handle is "Lousy Protestant," posted what I believe is a solid critique of not only Jon Adams Ministries' conclusions, but also the serious problems within the many, varying, and the ever-growing number of "protestantisms" out there. In this video, after some initial comments, I read, word-for-word, the 2-page comment from Lousy Protestant. It's excellent.

Welcome home Cameron. I and my family are praying for you and yours
🙏🙏🙏
There is a glaring and obvious connection between the schism 500 years ago and the cultural schism today. Both are based on ego, a lack of humility, unwillingness to submit to truth and authority. 500 years ago this led to a divorce from church, and today a divorce from reality/humanity. Protestants need to wake up and get back in the game and protect/defend mother church from the modernist onslaughts.
welcome home Cameron, I told my hardcore evangelical brother-in-law about you
This is awesome! I feel like Lousy Protestant will be among the next to come home to Rome.
Cameron has finally captured Christianity
😂
That's sad and divisive. We are all brothers in Christ, regardless of the path we take.
Keep your eyes on the main prize.
@Zed Zee what's sad is that you seem incapable of understanding an obviously cheeky comment. However, Catholicism is the true orthodox Christianity, so my comment isn't wrong. Which is why it was also funny
@@thecloudtherapist what could be more divisive than this word:
Protestant
Protest
Cameron is on the journey many of us have taken; that of ending his protest. That is the path to unity with the Church founded by Jesus.

Thanks so much Kenny; what an insightful articulation from "Lousy Protestant." I am a retired Army chaplain and I joined the Catholic Church this year because of similar reasons. Even many who remain seem to be "Catholicizing" their experiences such as Francis Chan's struggle with the Eucharist. Hank Hannegraf's conversion to Orthodoxy was not a fluke, in my opinion. The hunger in the Protestant church is real. I pray for Cameron Bertuzzi and all of our brothers and sisters whom God is calling home to His Church.
Working with an Army chaplain right now (he’s a friend) whose desire is to jump ship - for the record my handle “Lousy Protestant” derived from our conversations about our frustrations and desire for the ancient church.

@@crossbearer6453 no…he isn’t - I’ve made the commitment to read, evaluate, examine and pray 🙏🏼. I am starting with answering hard questions. I pose hard questions that expose our own inconsistencies - our contradictions and see if I can work through that with wisdom and honesty

I hope and pray God leads you to the right conclusion
@@crossbearer6453 thank you so far - it’s been eye opening and I have to come to some simple yet profound conclusions on a host of issues. So for instance - the conclusion last year was to return to a classical Protestantism and many make that pit stop. It’s closer to the ancient church but I’ve also seen many make that jump only to realize that wasn’t it either - so I am family man with professing children and well it’s complicated. God is at work for sure …I know this for certain. I do ask for prayer 🙏🏼. It’s almost as if I can’t keep up with our Lord and what I am seeing for the first time in the Bible - it’s like having new glasses.
I made the decision to convert last week before Cam announced. I just heard Sam Shamoud did as well.
This is my second conversion. The first was in 2017 out of Jewish atheism while believing all gods fictional. Yeshua showed up then. This time it was Blessed Mother Mary. In both cases, I never wanted it prior to it happening.
The Protestant church exhausted me. The Word kept me fed til Mother Mary could come, take me home & feed me properly in The Church. Trading a pulpit for an altar table with the Holy Eucharist will be true banqueting with God!

Hi Kenny, I am a former Evangelical. One of the major contributors to my conversion was exactly what Lousy Protestant noted. In practice, every Protestant is their own pope. When we moved to a new city, we had to church shop to find a “Bible Church” that had correct teaching. And by correct teaching, I mean “teaching that agrees with my interpretation of the Bible.”
I only realized this when I went to an online forum to get ammunition to disprove Catholicism. I quickly found the Catholics on this forum had much better answers to all the questions raised. It was eye opening to see actual Catholic responses rather than what Evangelicals claimed Catholics believed.
Lousy Protestant said it very well. I'm a cradle Protestant, but the last 2 months I've been diving into Catholicism. The reasons you laid out (original church, Sola Scriptura, etc) are a death nell to Protestantism. I grew up legalistic Amish-Mennonite, talk about a sect divided over the most petty reasons. My wife and I are headed to a "Questioning Class" on Monday, went to our first Mass yesterday; can't wait to see what the future holds!
Praying for you! We were just brought into the church last Easter. We have been SO SO blessed! EVERYTHING has changed for us.

Thank you for this video Kenny. The Catholic Church has a lot of problems but will always be the Church founded by Christ. I'll pray for you and for Cameron.
The Catholic Church has lots and lots and lots and lots of problems, not only today but throughout his entire history. If Jesus founded this church, then he isn't god. He's just an idiot.
Thank you for this. I converted in 2014. At the time my youngest son was in an evangelical seminary & tried to convince me I was wrong. I just prayed for him. As his studies progressed to the early church fathers his views started changing. I knew then it was just a matter of time. It was difficult fo him to convert, he became a pariah at school, & none of his professors would write him recommendations for graduate school. In addition his wife did not share his beliefs. He waited for her. I was able to attend their initiation into the Catholic Church, one of the happiest times in my life. I told him about Marcus Grodi & The Coming Home Network. They wrote recommendations for him. He’s now a PhD candidate at Catholic University of America pursuing a doctorate in Philosophy. God is Good❤️
You showed up in my recommended vids so I listened & checked you out, then subbed 😊 God bless you 🙏❤️
PS You might want to check out The Coming Home Network an apostolate to assist Protestant pastors & others coming into the Church. They understand the unique problems & pressures of pastors converting. ❤️

Wow! As a recent convert to the Catholic Church (1 1/2 years ago, at the age of 69), I am floored by the honesty of this critique! I was a lifelong Methodist who began questioning the practices and beliefs of Protestantism several years ago, and checked out several different Protestant denominations, seeking "the truth." Once I began RCIA, I knew I had finally found the truth, and my forever "home." I was confirmed into the Catholic faith on Pentecost 2021, and I continue to study the Catechism, which is so wonderfully thoroughly researched and written, and provides answers to every single question I've ever had. I thank God He led me "home"!
God bless Cameron, coming home, finding the Truth!
Happy Feast of Christ the King

People like you will be one of God’s channel for helping Protestants come back Home to Holy Mother Church. Praying for you in my daily Rosary. God bless you, brother.
Thanks for all of the positive and charitable comments. I did delete the original comment for those asking due to the less than charitable responses from some Protestants. There is no need for contention - or insults. Charity, grace, and patience is the only prescription that Christ our Lord would desire for our conduct amongst those who profess Him as Lord. Praying for Kenny and his ministry and for those on this thread who were kind and representative of Christian virtue and charity. I’ll also pray for those who weren’t - so that they can continue to grow and see that Christ is love and speak the truth in love.
Thanks for the update. I understand. As you can see by the interaction here, your own reflections and summary of your experiences, observations, and the "landscape" of contemporary Protestantism resonates with many of us. I can't deny that we Protestants disagree with each other a lot. I imagine one of the advantages of having a Pope is that you have someone all Catholics respect who can mediate any disagreements that arise. For us Protestants especially, we need to learn how to love and respect people we disagree with on religious issues. We've come a long ways from the days when Catholics and Protestants were really persecuting each other, but I think we still could do a lot better. There is still a lot of hate and I've been part of it but then I felt God calling me to examine the prejudices I had against the Catholic Church. Now I've discovered amazing people like yourself who are part of the Catholic Church.
As a cradle Catholic, I commend Cameron for taking a deep dive into Church history, and resurfacing across the Tiber.
I also liked “lousy Protestant” for taking a look 👀 in the mirror, then turning that mirror 🪞 back onto his fellow Protestants.
Yep!
Blessed to belong to the Catholic Church
What an amazing sharing and strong statement. Thank you Kenny. I hope more and more Catholic people watch your channel and make their faith stronger not to leave the Catholic faith. Because it is the true Church that was built by Jesus
In my experience, the one thing that unites Protestants is that they are all against the Catholic faith so much so that they have to preach about "heretical" Catholic doctrine on their pulpits. I have listened to some of them including MacArthur and am shocked at how they misinterpret our beliefs. I love hearing about good Protestants are open to learning Catholic understanding of our faith whether or not they decide to cross the Tiber. Love your videos Kenny! Keep them coming!
It’s because they hate Catholicism more than they love Jesus Christ.

@morganse11111 it's okay. A detour before finally coming to the final destination of Catholicism. :P
In all seriousness, I personally rejoice even if Protestants end up in the Orthodox church as they finally receive the body and blood of our Saviour.

I left the system of Protestantism 30 years ago when I started to question authority, the historicity of sola scriptura and exactly HOW we got the canonized 73 book Bible. “To be deep in history is to cease being Protestant.” St. John Henry Newman
Beautiful explanation. Thank you. Let's all pray for Cameron and everyone that are beginning their journey into the church of Jesus. The catholic church!
You are 100% right about people in Protestant ministries being held there by money and relationships. I was a Regional Director for the largest prison ministry on Earth when I converted to Catholicism. I was in a very well payed position and had built many friendships there. It kept me there longer than I should have. I exited when I was told by someone in national leadership, who did not know I was then a Catholic, that Catholics and Catholic churches are not allowed to volunteer for the ministry. That "we wouldn't want Catholics showing up at anyone's door." However, Catholics in the Northeast make up a substantial amount of annual donations to the organization and that was still welcomed. When it did became known that I had converted I was, what can best be described as, shunned.
Mark are you still doing ministry?
@@KennyBurchard I am not. I left in March of this year and am prayerful that God has a plan for me. I have to believe the experiences I had and the things I learned will be of service somewhere in the future.

Wow! What a great testament to your love for JESUS!! Welcome home.
These protestants making response videos are out of it. They are downplaying Cameron's intelligence. Calling him emotional. Saying he needs help. Just calling him incorrect and lying about the church. It's nuts
It really is strange and embarrassing
It certainly shook the core of their belief, meaning of those that reacted in such way, maybe even for the better, besides, Cameron did make his homework before making the decision to become Catholic, in Protestant logic, that would make little to no sense, but that's why I think it is certainly not an emotional thing, you have to be very humble and open especially knowing that there will be some backlash, maybe from friends and family, the pressure is also real but in the end when you embrace the fullness of the Truth that is founded in the Catholic Church, it all falls into place. I wish all the blessings in Christ to Cameron and his family who supports him on this way.
His thoughts on guns is pretty unintelligent.
@@micahwatz1148 we are looking at doctrine here
He did his homework
What are his views on guns anyway??
It’s interesting that they are calling him emotional seeing how much education you need to become a Catholic
Protestantism is the emotional centered side of Christianity

Something Martin Luther hated , hence SOLA SCRIPTURA AND SOLA FIDA
This is a great video. I am glad someone responded to this guy. Thanks🤗😊
Thanks, friend. Yes, I'm in favor of a RUclips channel saying who owns it. For instance, mine says "Kenny Burchard." What I mean to say is adding the word "Ministries" after a person's name is a very Protestant thing to do (and, it always strikes me as funny, that "ministry" is in the plural -- "ministries.").
@@KennyBurchard thanks
@@KennyBurchard ah sorry. I get you good point. ☺️Never thought about that it is funny.
The two biggest criticisms of Protestants towards Catholicism that I know of are the worship of 'idols" and Mary.
I'm Catholic and I can't help but say this is really ignorant of them to say. Jesus is our Lord but he is the Son of God. Our saints are like us, born sinners but managed to reach the loftiest spiritual heights and gave us deeper insights that help us elevate our individual journeys.
They are role models worthy of emulation and remembering. You carved out faces on the side of a mountain, are they your gods? No. Same with us.
Our Blessed Mother. How can we not honour the holy womb that carried the Son of God for 9 months? It is precisely for this mission why she herself was conceived immaculately in her mother's womb. She is the Mother of God, Queen of heaven and earth who has appeared so many times in various places to show us the way to her Son and how to fight the Devil.
Many overlook the fact that if Lucifer had any fear for God he would never have rebelled. Lucifer has the darkest power with a legion of followers yet, and yet he fears one specific human whose mere mention causes him and his minions to flee, a woman, our Blessed Virgin Mother Mary! The demons themselves confessed this during exorcisms. (Fr Vincent Lampert, Fr Jim Blount, Fr Ripperger, etc) Why? It is said that Satan did everything he could to get her to sin but failed, he couldn't get near her. She is perfectly holy and human, the only human who is also a woman. Feminists should take note. We grown up men love and adore her as if she were our own mother, asking for favors and help.
The rosary from our Blessed Mother is our most powerful weapon against the Devil. This is why we say pray the rosary and save the world.
Amen 🙏
When Jesus went into the desert and was tempted, did he call on his mother? No, He used Scripture each and every time. Mary is not our greatest weapon against the devil. God's Word is.
@@anthonym.7653 Seriously? You expect the Son of God to act like an immature 12 year old? When he himself cast them out countless times at will?
Speaking about the Devil and his legion, who would know them better than exorcists themselves? Have you asked yourself why is it that only Catholic priests are able to methodically cast demons out of people? Hear what they have to say and what the demons say. It's all here in YT.
@@anthonym.7653 Actually the rosary is the biggest weapon. It calls upon all 3 Jesus, Mary and God
@@lois2997 Mary is not equal to God and Jesus. Jesus is the Word of God. John 1:1.
"unity in elevator pitch"
Is the most succinct description of protestantism imaginable. As a former protestant my hope is that one day they might be unified. And , eventually, maybe find their identities in the Catholic Church 😊
Amen, Noah!
@YAJUNYUAN It is true that the Catholic Church has always had division and heretics in it. Read Paul's letter to the Catholic congregation in 1 Corinthians for examples. But - as distinctive from the Protestant impulse (which is to divide), it is actually contrary to Catholicity to settle problems -- REAL PROBLEMS -- through division. That is the Protestant way. The ecumenical councils (going all the way back to the Jerusalem Council in Acts) tell us that there will be division in the Church, but that this is to be sorted out in communion with the Apostles and their successors. It is not, as it almost always happens thanks to Protestantism, for "Pastor Bob" to go start his own Church down the street when he disagrees with "Pastor Steve." To have problems and sort them out in communion is the Catholic way. To have problems and start the newest TRUE version of Christianity that "only uses the Bible," is the Protestant DNA. We all have problems. We deal with them from a different set of priorities and starting-place.
Coming from a former Calvinist its so true once you start honestly looking at Protestantism without cognitive dissonance you see it's massive problems that cannot be fixed because it falls on its own sword, it is in its ethos to "always reform" ie always schism which is a sin according to Paul.
So true! That is the common thread that we hear, don't we, from all who set out to make the journey home to full communion. There is not enough duct tape to patch all the self-contradictory holes in the sinking ship that is the manifold and ever-growing number of protestantisms.
@@KennyBurchard Absolutely. I taught in RCIA inquiry on the authority of the Church and my best friend who was the pastor of my old church was there. It was difficult for him to hear what many of the Church Fathers say that if you don't have a valid Bishop then you don't have a valid Eucharist and therefore do not have a valid Church. Obviously there was a chasm there and then between his congregation, he said that in the Protestant world authority is what's being discussed and that he completely understands the arguments... So, I would say the Lord is at work.
I remember this journey. I remember going in not 100% on all its teachings. But I knew that it had to be true! Over the years I not only overcame my initial struggles but I see great beauty and truth in those things I once struggled to accept. Praise be to our Lord Jesus Christ!
You're really a master at endings. You ended your conversion story with the Apostles creed and now this video on Jesus announcement on Peter and His promise for His church which He has actually fulfilled. This endings really strike us right here at the feels. Another great video here.
Thanks! God is good.
Kenny, I remember listening to you on the coming home network, and I have to say you’re a great addition to the program because the way you articulate, clarify, and your anecdotes really brings home the point. You just don’t ramble on for no reason and this video is a great example of this. It was so smart of you to read that comment from Lousy Protestant, because it really did articulate how so many of us former Protestants feel about the Protestant Experiment over the last 500 years and its fruit.
Thanks! So glad!
Thanks for your comments...and for all your other videos, especially your collaboration with Matt & Ken in the "On the Journey" Series. I'm from the Reformed (PCA) tradition, currently in RCIA. The faith and courage you and Cameron exhibited in your respective conversions are truly remarkable. Your examples have encouraged me in my on-going journey to full communion with the Catholic Church.
I think Lousy Protestant is spot on. Doctrinal disagreement was one of the things that got me scratching my head. From the point of view of Scripture, it seemed contrary to so passages, Jn.17:20-23, 1 Cor.1:10, Eph.4:3-6, Phil.2:2 & Acts 4:2. When I was told by my pastor that different views on the Lord's Supper were fine, that it was a "second tier" doctrine, I couldn't help but think of the Ephesians, "tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine." It took a good bit more reading of the Catechism, early Church Fathers and the Reformation, though, to fully understand the issues. One good resource is Dr.David Anders at Called to Communion. For example, in one article he examines differences between contemporary evangelicals and Calvin on baptism and the right of private Biblical interpretation:

By Gods grace he read it as I wrote it - emphasizing my concerns properly and even capturing the right tone just as if he wrote it.
It seems so obvious that the schism of 500 years ago made the schism of the modern era possible. At one time all Christians were United in belief in: Eucharist, confession, the cannon etc which led to unity in: marriage/divorce, openness to life/no contraception etc. Now “Christian” churches after 500 years of continued schism (countless denominations) reflect the culture, not the church left by Jesus.

I suppose you forgot that there was another schism about 1000-1300 years ago?

I would not say “in communion”.
God speaks to us with one voice, but through two channels. Through His Word, the Bible and through His Church. God cannot contradict Himself. LousyProtestant is such a breath of pure air. On his way and will pray for him.
Reminds me of a conversation I had with a leading Reformed pastor and scholar who was privately interested in my transfer into the Catholic Church. (BTW, I came into it through an Eastern Rite, which I highly recommend for Protestants, particularly those of a Reformed and theologically informed persuasion.) After sharing two or three of the 101 pivots on my journey, I asked him if there was anything in his systematics that gave him pause. He said, "the perspecuity of scripture." I laughed and said, "Brother, you keep tugging on that thread, and the whole Protestant sweater will unravel."
Yep! Interestingly, a core Protestant idea is that we don't need anyone to tell us what the Bible actually means. God will tell us if we are really sincere. That's what quite a big number of the *Protestant Bible Teachers* who go to seminary to learn how to interpret and teach the Bible (wink wink, nudge nudge) tell us, anyway.
@YAJUNYUAN I studied biblical languages when I received my M.A. in New Testament Biblical Theology in seminary. It certainly was helpful. But - Jesus founded a Church. That Church is the Pillar and Ground of the Truth (1 Tim. 3:15), and -- Jesus gave us the Church, which gave us the Bible, and that Church knows (1) What the Bible is, and (2) What it means, since the Bible neither tells us what goes in it, nor how to interpret it. That's what the Church is for (Ephesians 4:11-15). Studying the Bible "for myself" is never encouraged (wait for it.... ) IN THE BIBLE. Eph. 3:18 - We comprehend "with all the saints," not alone with our biblical languages to guide us. The Holy Spirit guides us into all truth -- by giving gifts to His Church. The Catholic Church.
The historic state churches of protestantism and also those with a higher ecclesiology that split off from Anglicanism had a view of being in continuity with the historic Church. Though they were wrong, they still took it as quite necessary for that to be the case. This is obviously not the case with evangelicals, and we see that as protestantism has split, each new sect has a slightly different ostensible reason for being that is different, and often contradictory, from its predecessors.
May God bless Jon Adam too as he blessed Cameron.
Amen, “May his blood be upon us and our children”…at least that where I think you’re going🙂
I am a Catholic and seeing the implosion of Evangelicalism (deconstruction anyone?) doesn't give me any triumphlost glee. I see the sad mainline story all over again.
It is programmed to implode and self destruct. Born in schism constantly dividing.
Wow! Being protestant sounds exhausting. I greatly appreciate the consistency and the catechism as a guide to what we believe as Catholics. I admire protestant pastors who have the courage to leave their livelihoods and community when they realize the true church is the Catholic church.

As a protestant I so agree with the comment of ‚lousy protestant.‘ I don‘t know what to do, to be honest. Thought about learning about eucharist and Mary. If these ‚little‘ subjects are cleared I‘ll be off and running 😂. Let‘s see…
OK. The Eucharist. Read Exodus 12. Then John 1:29-34. Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. That should be enough (let me know if you need more) to lead you to the idea that Jesus is amongst many other things, the new Moses leading a new exodus from slavery to sin. He is also the Passover Lamb who takes away the sins of the world, and as it says, we must eat the flesh.
Read John 6:22-70. (Bread of life discourse followed by eternal life discourse)
Read 1 Corinthians 10:14-22. You need to partake of the Body and the Blood (As Saint Paul says).
Then read the 3 synoptic Gospel accounts of the Last Supper. This is My Body. This is My Blood. No where does it say symbol.
Also see Saint Ignatius letter to the Smyrneans. Very clear about the real presence.
Also, it isn't a new sacrifice but a representation of the original once for all sacrifice. Same is true with the Jewish Passover.
On May, start with 1 Kings 2:19-20. It establishes that the Queen in the Davidic kingdom is the mother of the king, not his wife. This pattern is followed throughout the Davidic kings, of which Jesus is the final and ever lasting king.
Also Mary is the Ark of the New Covenant. See
What did the Ark of The Old Covenant contain?
See Hebrews 9:4
having the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, which contained a golden urn holding the manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;
So... it held the manna, food from Heaven for the journey out of the slavery of Egypt, A symbol of the priesthood and The Word of God.
What did the Ark of The New Covenant (Mary, Mother of God) contain?
She contained The Bread of Life (Jesus, see John 6)
She contained the High Priest (Also Jesus) see Hebrews 4:14
"Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. "
And she contained The Word of God, made incarnate. (Also Jesus) see for example John 1:1-4 for example.
The Ark of The Old Covenant was so Holy that when someone who was not a priest touched it they died. See 2 Samuel 6:6-7
And when they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there because he put forth his hand to the ark;[e] and he died there beside the ark of God.
Do you think something which only foreshadows the New Covenant and The Coming Of The Lord Our God in The Flesh is more or less Holy?
From there a lot of your other questions have obvious answers and I shan't bother writing a full book in RUclips comments. However you could buy Jesus and the Jewish roots of Mary by Dr Brant Pitre.
Hope that all helps.
Just said an Ave for @Lousyprotestant. Sounds like he is walking very close to the Tiber and just needs the courage to cross.
Congrats Cameron! Welcome home
Great video Kenny!! and thanks to “Lousy Protestant” for his spot on, insightful comment regarding the many errors in Protestantism.
First time on your channel Kenny. Great reflection and as you say that Protestant nailed it. Modern day protestantism lives in a delusional state of self righteousness. There is no humility and the preaching of repentance and metanoia gets sidelined for big screens, blue jeans and smoke machines. No wonder people convert or come back who had left. The grass ain't greener on the other side..have you ever turned grass over? 😏
Lousy Protestant is coming home too 😊
Hey Kenny. As a cradle catholic I want you to know all of you are bringing something great to the church. Be careful of the protestant individualism of course but I never see that in coverts it's just my fear i have to speak on.
Kenny, well articulated.
And Jesus said if you love your mother father more than me you are not worthy of me. So much for Protestants loving their friends more than Jesus😢
Beautiful how you help other come to the True Catholic Faith. May the good LORD keep blessing you and your channel.... 👌🏼🙌🏼🙏🏼👍🏼⛪⛪🕊️🕊️
I’m Protestant and not particularly enjoying the harsh comments. Instead of attacking the branch of Christianity which introduced literacy and work ethics to the world, we should unite. Learn from one another.
I’m curious to know what we need to work on, apparently it’s converting to Catholicism. But I need more positive criticism.
I respect the Church. I love Catholic writers, art and architecture. You don’t get to hang out in this world for nearly 2,000 years without doing something right.
Krystle:
Actually, I think I can give a non-snarky, and hopefully positive, criticism, like you've asked for. These, I believe, are the things which Protestants, in general, could benefit from (other than "converting to Catholicism," as you say!):
1. Develop a Biblically-based objective principle for identifying the difference between non-negotiable doctrines (what Catholics call "dogmas") vs. things which are mere matters of indifference. Early Christianity clearly had the capacity to distinguish the two: They could tell mere disagreements about topics where God had been silent, from heretical rejection of things that God _had_ revealed. But what about us, today? We all agree that Protestants differ from one another in soteriology, ecclesiology, sacramentology, and sometimes even Theology and Christology! Well, that's bad enough; but, we don't know _how_ bad until we know which of the disagreements are on non-negotiables (dogmas), and which ones needn't prevent us being members of the same church. In fact, we could be more precise: There are some views which are required to be a part of Your Church; some which are not required but are commonly held. And then there are some views which make a member of Your Church "not in good standing"; some which are outright _heresies;_ and some which constitute de facto _apostasy._ To serve as a fully-functioning rule of faith, the Bible needs to give us a model for distinguishing between these levels of acceptability/unacceptability. But most Protestants don't even _try_ to define their church's non-negotiables by a Bible-based objective standard! Instead they just pick _whatever we already agree on_ and say, "That's the list of non-negotiables" ...or, sometimes they look at the denomination-name on their sign and say, "Well, X has to be non-negotiable since, if we allowed Y, we would have to change our sign." These are not, to say the least, well-founded, objective, Biblical standards.
2. Develop a procedure for Church Discipline which allows the Matthew 18 (or 1 Corinthians 5 ) system envisioned by Jesus (and used by Paul) to be more than a "dead letter" in the modern Protestant churches. Whenever there is a dispute between two Christians (especially if each is calling the other a heretic over some doctrine dispute; but also over more personal matters like adultery, marital strife, people refusing to care for parents, etc.), Jesus gives the responsibility to "the Church" to have the final say of adjudication. (In 1 Corinthians 6, Paul is even scandalized when Christians bring such matters before pagan judges in secular courts!) In modern Protestantism, this model is a "dead letter" because Protestants don't have a clear idea/process how to "take it to the Church." Who in the Church has the authority to adjudicate? Surely not just everyone. Surely not just the lead pastor. And if two Christians in two different churches have a dispute, mustn't both churches temporarily unite their judicial structures, to resolve the issue? (Let's presume, as Jesus Himself does, that not every dispute can be resolved at the "two or three witnesses" level.)
I think these two items are absolutely critical.
One cannot really claim to "be a church" unless one can do what Jesus clearly expects a church CAN do. That includes adjudicating with authority both about WHAT is/isn't Christianity (or, at least, orthodox Christianity, acceptable Christianity, sketchy Christianity, bad Christianity, and not-Christianity) ...and also about WHO is/isn't Christian (or, at least, a Christian we'd let teach Sunday School, a Christian who needs to be in Sunday School, a Christian who's really off-the-reservation, and a person who just isn't a Christian at all).
Without those capabilities -- without, in short, doing what a church _oughta be able to do,_ not as a fluke but with well-ordered practicality -- we're just kidding ourselves calling ourselves "churches" and "Christians." I mean, yeah, maybe we are ...but how the heck can we know? When we have no principled basis for distinguishing the truth of the matter?
It's notable that the Catholics _do_ have both of these features. They may be awfully lax, sometimes, about using them -- some U.S. politicians come to mind -- but the fact remains that _everyone knows_ certain things which Catholics _have to_ believe. (Does anybody doubt that Catholics are required to assent to the dogma of the Assumption of Mary? Nope!) ...and similarly, _everyone knows_ that a Catholic who gets too far off-the-reservation can be tried for a canonical crime (they call it a "delict") and have various punishments (I think they're called "interdicts") imposed, such as not being permitted to receive communion, not being able to teach their opinions, etc.
Catholics even have marriage tribunals for discerning the truth of whether a marriage, as-originally-contracted, qualified as a real, valid Christian Matrimony by God's definition. I know people complain about procedural difficulties with these, but my point is: They _actually have a system_ for such things. That suggests that they're taking their obligation to _be a legit church_ seriously, by the Matthew 18 standard.
So, those are some things Protestant churches should work on, IMHO. If the whole Protestant world finds them impossible to implement, we should be asking ourselves "Why is that?"
I hope that's helpful.
Respectfully,
CW
NOTE: Full Disclosure: I grew up in Baptist and Baptist-esque non-denom churches; I participated as a church musician in various evangelistic outreach efforts, and worked as a musician, bandleader, and arranger for Baptist, Methodist, and a few other conservative Protestant churches. Like some others here, I dug into church history to get some troublesome questions answered, and ended up convinced I should become Catholic. But I still speak Christianity "with an evangelical Protestant accent," so-to-speak, and am very thankful for the Baptist ministers and Sunday School teachers who taught me to love the Lord and the Scriptures. It is in _that_ sense -- that sense of camaraderie knowing my own roots -- that makes me say "we" in what I've written above, not "you," when referring to Protestants. (I didn't want anybody to think I was denying having become a Catholic; but I also didn't want anyone to think that I was taking potshots at my Protestant upbringing, for which I am endlessly thankful, or at Protestants, with whom I still feel a strong alliance and familial connection. I hope that makes sense.)
Well said.
Thanks Kenny.
When I talk to Non-Catholics about the Papacy, I always start off by telling them why Jesus made His disciples walk two day to Caesarea Philippi.
They have absolutely no idea what it's all about, starting with importance of your name at that time and what happened to Abram and Jacob after their name change by God and what was to become of Cephas.
By the time the discussion has progressed to Matthew 16:18 and beyond petros petras, I tell them what Jesus actually said was, "Thou art Kepho and upon this kepho..."
I remember a protestant Christian visiting many different Churches of many different denominations. And in a Lutheran church the priest said that the problem of Protestantism is that it will always break apart or some such.
I forgot the name of the channel :/

The TLDR: Protestantism is cringy af.
@@DavidTextle Because there is really nothing to understand: that's why it's cringy.
KENNY BURCHARD, I COULDN'T AGREE MORE, AND I JUST SUBSCRIBE TO YOU, BROTHER!...
PEACE!🤟
Please start posting again!❤️🙏🐢
I once asked my protestant daughter in law one time,,, if she ever wondered why she has the opinion of the catholic church she has? How it became that she knows so much about the catholic church in a negative way? Because there are other protestant denominations that are in more disagreement with eachother than they are with the catholic church.
God bless you, Cameron and the Protestant who wrote the 2+ pages with honest, clear and true statements. Amen.
GOD IS GOOD ALLELUIA AMEN GOD BLESS YOU ❣️❣️❣️🙏
Fantastic. Thank you
I admire your frankness about your own situation. I find that honesty admirable. If you're not able to be open to the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit convicts you about certain things that you don't feel able or ready to change - please hang in there! Take heart - ask the Holy Spirit to give you a desire for the good things that perhaps he can't yet give you because of your attachment to certain things. Don't give up on yourself or the Holy Spirit... or the Catholic Church. The timing is God's. Some of us just need more time, whether it's from our own rebellion or whatever.
So am I.
The Spirit of the Lord is on the move. And his brothers and sisters in the Lord Jesus Christ we should be encouraging each, and everyone of us to follow the man from Nazareth wherever he leads. One person’s experience is not more or less it is merely, a path that the Lord Jesus Christ is walking with them in.
Great video you are a true Christian.
I just found you. Thank you and God Bless. Subscribed.

Good commentary Kenny! Thank you!
You are very welcome
Congrats Cameron 🎉
Before having watched this I want to ask one question. He has documented his entire faith journey on capturing Christianity. A very long and difficult process. Before deciding if he is right or wrong, have you watched and listened to, at least, all of this documented evidence before deciding who is right or wrong.
“The Lord says to Peter: ‘I say to you,’ he says, ‘that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church.’ . . . On him [Peter] he builds the Church, and to him he gives the command to feed the sheep [John 21:17], and although he assigns a like power to all the apostles, yet he founded a single chair [cathedra], and he established by his own authority a source and an intrinsic reason for that unity. Indeed, the others were that also which Peter was [i.e., apostles], but a primacy is given to Peter, whereby it is made clear that there is but one Church and one chair. So too, all [the apostles] are shepherds, and the flock is shown to be one, fed by all the apostles in single-minded accord. If someone does not hold fast to this unity of Peter, can he imagine that he still holds the faith? If he [should] desert the chair of Peter upon whom the Church was built, can he still be confident that he is in the Church?”- St. Cyprian of Carthage (The Unity of the Catholic Church 4; 1st edition [A.D. 251]).
The quote once again reinforces what we have all seen; "To be deep in history is to cease to be Protestant!" St. Cardinal John Henry Newman - AMEN!
If you scroll down a bit, you'll find a comment or two suggesting that every single believer is on equal footing with all the apostles and that God wants it this way. Only Jesus, in this way of thinking, tells each Christian, individually (in the Bible, which they need to understand for themselves) what is and is not true. This approach to epistemology, and this world-view, is *the* reason that there will be more versions of Protestantism tomorrow than there are today (and the next day, and the next, etc).
This "further we go back in history the more Catholic we become" is form of originalism that curiously leaves out the Judean roots of the Church, and falls flat. The problem today in this fairly faithless age, is who and what is authority. We are passing through(?)a time of moral and spiritual holocaust when the very concept has been blown away in both the secular and religious realm, and folks are casting about. They are not looking for unity but who and what to trust. Division makes it worse. The atomization of the internet multiplies the problem. It is not resolved by accepting an authority structure that is riddled with corruption and pronouncing it Holy. The Early Father's are interesting and theologically insightful to be sure. But look them up, and the sainted Luther who studied them probably in seminary, on the matter of the Jewish people before you anoint them as authorities and starting points. I am puzzled by the lack of completeness and historical study when folks like Hahn starting wooing broken people to come "home." Humility is in order on all sides, including mine, if it is a side. I am open to temperate and good communication on the above. Thanks be unto God for His ineffable Gift.
I'm a non-Catholic Christian and congratulations to Cameron, if his faith in God is ever deepened. It can go to the protestant side or to the Catholic side, and it makes my echumenical heart glad either way. That Jon Adams fellow is usually slamming someone. It's usually some other hapless (often undeserved Christian), so congrats, you Catholics are in on it now too. You were pretty gracious about his rhetoric. God bless.
The disunity is by far the main reason for me to also go to Catholicism (I've yet to be formed, which will also be this easter).
Unity requires there to be an authority determining what is or isn't binding on the faithful.
In theory of course God would be able to provide unity amongst men without such an authoritarian system in place, but in practice it is evident
that Sola Scriptura and Semper Reformanda (always reform) from the get-go leads to disunity.
The DNA of Protestantism is divorce, fracture, splitting, dislocation, and protest. The impulse simply drives it to do what it is programmed to do over and over and over and over and over again. 500 years of history have proved that this approach to reformation is not, and never was the answer to the prayer of Jesus - "that they may be one." When you have more versions of Protestantism every day, there is no other way to see it; it is a war against the prayer of Jesus.
St. Vincent of Lerins
“With great zeal and closest attention, therefore, I frequently inquired of many men, eminent for their holiness and doctrine, how I might, in a concise and, so to speak, general and ordinary way, distinguish the truth of the Catholic faith from the falsehood of heretical depravity.
“I received almost always the same answer from all of them-that if I or anyone else wanted to expose the frauds and escape the snares of the heretics who rise up, and to remain intact and in sound faith, it would be necessary, with the help of the Lord, to fortify that faith in a twofold manner: first, of course, by the authority of divine law [Scripture] and then by the tradition of the Catholic Church.
“Here, perhaps, someone may ask: ‘If the canon of the scriptures be perfect and in itself more than suffices for everything, why is it necessary that the authority of ecclesiastical interpretation be joined to it?’ Because, quite plainly, sacred Scripture, by reason of its own depth, is not accepted by everyone as having one and the same meaning. . . .
“Thus, because of so many distortions of such various errors, it is highly necessary that the line of prophetic and apostolic interpretation be directed in accord with the norm of the ecclesiastical and Catholic meaning” (The Notebooks [A.D. 434]).
Yep! By swapping out Peter and His Successors with a book that every person is free (in actual practice, even if some Protestants disagree) to interpret 100% for him/herself, Protestantism has a mixed bag of remnants of the Church Jesus is building (with access to the Gospel), and manifold and ever-increasing and disparate versions of christianity. They have exchanged ONE shepherd (Peter) for shepherds-unending and ever-changing, and ever-contradicting one another with absolutely no way to stop the chaos. It is wired to self-destruct. And that is happening. We are watching it every day.
I was born Catholic, but recently i feel i need more word of God and decided to join bible group for girls at most of members were protestant. At first i thought ok this is great these people is smart and knows so many things about bible. I tried to relate as i also want to read my bible actively. But one thing i notice on these "sisters in Christ" they are people in a box! They would quote scriptures on every answer or beliefs. Example in Catholic we have rosary for prayers. They would say not biblical no need. Without knowing how to pray the rosary and what is rosary about. Also by trying to interpret the bible on their own they are becoming judgmental and not of Christ. I pray for them that God will help them home in Jesus name..
Sadly you will get the version of biblical truth that the particular version of protestants hold in a given group. They will all agree Catholic theology is wrong. From there all bets are off. Many of them will turn on each other too. Its a jungle out there in "bible only" groups.
One doesn’t have to leave the Catholic Church to get more scripture. Pick up a bi or and read it.
The most famous and popular religious podcast in America is a Catholic priest who reads the Bible, prays, and explains what he read. No chance one will get the same conclusions about the Bible from "pastor Bill" as she will get two blocks away at "Pastor Bob's Church." The fulness of the faith is found in the Catholic Church.
@@michaelspeyrer1264, profound response, Michael! Haven't thought about that. Some leave the Church because the pastor on the other side of the fence preaches the Word of God eloquently (using his/her own interpretation) sacrificing the most important essence of worship - the reception of Christ in the Eucharist. Let's continue to pray for the Holy Spirit to guide them home.
Don’t make the mistake I did and let them catch you when you are vulnerable and convince you to get baptized in their faith. I regret it still even though I confessed. It was church of Christ and talk about some weird beliefs. They don’t, even use the old testament. No musical instruments, They think when Jesus said upon this rock I will build my church that the Church of Christ was built. I am not kidding. The commandments are messed up. My dad was dying and instead of vp just saying no I let them convince me to get rebaptized.
Wow. So good. Thank you for posting this!
Thanks for the work you are putting in defending the faith
