Knights of the Round's summon is long because 13 people are attacking
Ark's summon is long because it has to come in from space and transform
Magus Sisters' overdrive is long but it's just a flashy set up for one attack
Zodiark's ultimate attack is long because it has to transform first
Eden's summon is long because it has to emerge from the nth dimension that it resides in, then warp space-time in a concentrated spot on the battlefield in order to abduct the enemy back to the nth dimension, then warp the entire plane of the nth dimension into a cylinder so that the enemy is rotated to the top of the ship upside-down, then conduct an arcane ritual that covers the entire planet in order to displace the nth dimension from the planet's rotation to make sure its aim is perfect, then use that perfect aim to launch the enemy across the galaxy into the center of a black hole which then collapses.
Bardwayer and all it does is 24k damage
Thanks to the marvels of modern remastering, I...still have no idea what it's supposed to be. But I do know that when the concept art was first made for it, it was originally called "Barthandelus". (Similar to how Alexander's concept art was originally the concept art for FFIV's Giant of Babel.)

sephiroth's super nova is long because he had to break down the equation, dealing with mother complex issue, finding resources for power, manipulating people to deliver those resources, summoning thee comet, waiting for the comet to hit through planets but somehow it misses mother earth, and to hit the sun so the sun explodes destroying the universe but leaving some people and a red were dog and a robot (??) alive.

Oh man that opening shot to Bahamut is freaking sick. FF8 hit just the right balance of summon's cinematic without being too long or overly dramatic. It was just right.

OMG I love the sound design that went into these summons. From Diabolos's forceful gravity to Alexander's light beams coming from the sky. They forever always stayed in my head as a child.
nothing beat VIII in coolest summon design...Ifrit, Quetza, Levi, Diablos, Bahamut, Doomy, Phoenix, Odin, Gilga, all top notch even for today standard

Absolutely agree. To this day I’ve not seen such creativity when it comes to summons. I remember never skipping a summons when I played and replayed and replayed this game. I love all of them.

I think thats why most of the summons in the mobile game DFFOO are based off of FF8 !
Who remember the first time when in a critical battle the whole party died and from the ashes Phoenix come to save you. I really love that from final fantasy 8.

I really hate fighting omega weapon. Its like he is the broken monster in the game. I don't think I have trouble fighting omega weapon in other ff series than ff8. Ff8 omega weapon is a menace.

Diablos summons gave me goosebumps. Not gonna lie it looked super badass though.

@@vhanisrafa wel according to the guide book for the PSX version of FF8 tiamat was a corrupted GF that went more rogue than even odin essentially meaning it was effectively untamable
Ffxiv also further delves into tiamat....in ffxiv tiamat was bahamuts lover and they birthed dragons into existence but the allagans put tiamat in a magic prison as to suppress it powers
The amount of nostalgia this video gave me is incredible. Now I remember all the small things that made my mind blown the first time I see them, the fact that Leviathan sweeps away the enemies that kill, the Doomtrain face on the railway crossing's pommel, the Ifrit's roar as he punch the meteor, all the Diablos animation, specially the amount of effort he needed to move the dark matter ball, when Seifer KILLED Odin during the Zantetsuken and the appearance of Gilgamesh... I would like to write more, but my laptop battery is at 84%.

Eden: The summon that makes Sephiroth's special move look tame and understated.
The sound of each summon is where it's at. I can still remember them throughout the years. If only you were able to record Quetzalcoatl's sound better. Makes me wanna play the whole thing again.
I still remember playing this game on a shitty CRT with a bad picture, and the tv had to refocus every time Quetzacoatl's flash of light occured during its animation. I hated it at the time but its such a distinct memory now.
My first final fantasy game... and goodness.. I'm start falling in love with this game series... until now... thanks ffviii

My favorite Final Fantasy game ever. The GFs are soooo amazing to use. The animation and sound is perfect. I loved playing this when I was younger and encountering a big tough boss and summoning a GF like "well look who's on MY side!" It's silly, I know, but real passion went into making this game. And they were made in such a way where you really get that satisfying feeling of doing significant DAMAGE to enemies.
I love FFVIII’s battle theme the most. Gets me pumped up every time during battle! And ahh the nostalgia with all these summons 🥰

Cerberus was the most disappointing. A Beast like Cerberus should be an attack Summon, not a support one.

after all these years we finally got an official FFviii mod with with psp models.
1. Siren got censored!
2. Quezacotl does not have the loud volt sound in its initial thunder breath
3. Ifrit doesnt have a roar before bashing the fire boulder
4. Cerberus did not roar before firing its rockets
5. Bahamut did not roar before firing its last breath

I can appreciate the summons for FF8. Some where epic, others where funny while a couple were beautiful. Favorites are Silent Voice, Dark Messenger, Ruby Light, Tsunami, Holy Judgement and Rebirth Flame. Behometh is always by far the most bad ass of FF’s overall summons. Raw power there.
There are some GFs I've never even summoned after playing through the games several times. Limit breaks are just much better and faster.

i miss ff8, that challenge of crafting squall's ultimate weapon in dics 1 is always a good reason to revisit this game

Cyber Critic I did too. And the sound from Quetzalcoatl’s thunder strikes down. At least it is different from ps1 version.

For me FVIII have the best summons cutscenes, Nomura did a fantastic job with the storyboard design. Bahamut is clearly my favorite ever and still the most beautiful version in a FF. (I adore IX, CC and T-0 too)

I love the GFs, pretty sure I use them often and took forever pretty sure my full game time was 1/5 from summons.
Every time when I see the acronym GF, I kept referring GF as girlfriend. My mind can’t stop thinking about that in a way lol I think many people thought of that the same way.
FF8 is a pretty cool game, lots of grinding magic though, and enemies scales based on your party's level average. So if you stay at low level and only battle the mandatory fights, the enemy will never 1 hit ko you.
I remember spending 100 hours on that game. Half of that time was waiting for summon animations to play.

I played this or the first time since I was a kid and there's about 9 gfs I didn't even know existed!!!! Squeezing all this high quality content into a game on ps1 is an outrageous feat of design, best final fantasy ever made by a mile
Diablo's not as good anymore. The bad bat noises are what made it great.

Well done on the video. I love how you keep the music consistent throughout the video. At a guess, I would assume an overlay of a single fight mixed in during editing. Still, VERY well done. Good work.
No changes in animations, but it seems some sound effects are altered or missing. In example, Ifrit doesn't roar when he jackhammers the fire orb and Bahamut just before launching the big flare.
Can still hear Ifrit. It's Quetzalcoatl that's still messed up. In all the PC versions it plays the audio for Phoenix for no apparent reason.
also i don't hear the sounds of bats for DIABLOS.. in PS1 you can hear the bats when forming the black circle where diablos appear and also when diablos dissapear after he throws the black ball..

Game was pushing the hardware limits of ps1 back in the day. Anyways , the gf summons are what they used to sell this game as I remember the demo starting you off with a 6400 hp level and allowing you to use the extravagant gf summons.
It looked better as well as today's TV's push sampling back down and stretch them out to display correctly. Learned that the other day

They spent a hot minute on Eden. Plus I didn't know that the enemies got an upgrade too.
enemies level too just as characters level. sad but true. all my characters are at level 100 and i was fighting a Malbora and i kept whacking it with my characters about 20 times doing damage of about 9k each hit and the thing still wouldnt go down lol.

You just miss one summon. By using gyshal greens you can summon Chocobo.

I'm so mad. As lovely as they look now it just isn't the same without the dualshock vibration.. So disappointed in the remaster if I'm honest. I'll go back to the original after this playthrough.

I remember that was only in the third playthrough that I obtained Doomtrain, was amazing the experience of discovering it.
at 10:24, well done by Square recognizing that sound travels slower than light hence the delayed sound explosion effect

Till this day, doomtrain is still my favourite guardian forces
