a common misconseption is that when you see the mach cone form around a jet, that is it passing supersonic and will release a sonic boom. This is not the case most times, the mach cone forms at around mach .96-.98, therefore meaning that the plane is almost supersonic but not quite yet, hense the condensation around the aircraft. Once they accelerate past that then you will hear the boom but most of these low flybys you see cant get up to supersonic speed because if they do they will shatter all the surrounding windows and damage everyones ears
you are right they dont travel at Mach 1 but slightly slower when seeing the condensation cones. I thought that due to the acceleration over the wings, the flow over the wings does experience Mach 1. Thats why the compression waves happen and we see the condensation etc. So i dont see why there shouldnt be a sonic boom as there are compression waves. Maybe not so loud as when travelling at Mach 1 but still. Would appreceate your input!

was super safe the concorde, the only problem is it costed too much to run that they were loosing a ton of money on every flight, there was no way to make it profitable despite the exorbitant prices, that the business customers where even willing to pay with no issues. Another issue is that it was very polluting, much more than every other plane.

Yes, it was illegal! They passed the law, preventing the Concord, or any passenger supersonic airplane from flying supersonic “overground“! That didn’t happen instantly, but once it did, Concord had to fly out over the Atlantic on its way to Paris before going supersonic, which would happen anyways! What it never did was fly coast to coast across the US supersonicly, which was definitely part of the plan originally!

Likely the long, conical tip with the cockpit pushing out to make a concurrent low pressure behind it into the intake. As well as it being very narrow but long, to reduce the frontal profile so the sonic airwaves don't layer up as much

No, that was a big issue for the Concorde because of the supersonic ban it spent a lot of time overland at subsonic speeds where the engines weren’t as efficient once it got out over the water it was much more efficient, if this comes out and we can go supersonic overland as well. If we wanted to go into specifics, concorde at full speed was actually quite fuel efficient, however below mach 1 efficiency takes a huge hit and because much of it flew over land in portions of the flight it means that it wasn't very fuel efficient during a good portion of the flight as most countries banned commercial planes going above mach 1. Having a supersonic plane with an almost inaudible sonic boom would allow faster flight times and greater efficiency, still doesn't necessarily change the fact that it runs on fossil fuels but it is a neat fact if anything

It will be a breakthrough from the material side. One shape won’t work; it will have to adjust its shape based on incoming aerodynamic conditions. SMAs are the leading choice for their mechanical shape transformation.
When this plane was first announced and they were in the process of making it one of the tail parts was covered up right outside of my neighborhood by the highway. it was there for three days then they moved it but it was cool to see!

The sound editing could use some work. On my headphones, the car door was louder than the sonic booms.

When this plane was first announced and they were in the process of making it one of the tail parts was covered up right outside of my neighborhood by the highway. it was there for three days then they moved it but it was cool to see!

It seems a bit misleading to portrait the sonic boom as the reason supersonic aviation was stopped in the first place. The real reason was more complex, but it was mostly due to the Concordes being involved in a few accidents, specifically it had a bad habit of experiencing tyre blowouts during takeoff and could experience
I think gravity has a play with the sonic boom. Like no matter how you try to prevent the shape of the sound, seems like everything heads downwards.
The x59 nose design would be an engineering issue in bigger commercial models.
