    - inkjet printer. I used this exact printer: amzn.to/2VaJeiE
    - Something to put your decal on, such as a glitter tumbler, ceramic mug, or glass
    - Rubbing alcohol (to clean your surface before applying the decal)
    - A bowl of tap water large enough to completely submerge your largest decal

UPDATES/CHANGES: Check for any updates, changes, or additional videos for this project at jennifermaker.com/updates
About a year or so ago, someone asked if I’d show them how to make a waterslide decal for a mug. And I remember thinking, water-what? It’s called waterslide because you soak the decal paper in water, which allows it to slide off the paper backing and onto your surface!
For this project, you’ll want to start with a smooth surface - you can use a glitter tumbler as I did. Or you could use a mug, glass, plastic, or even wood.
You’ll also need a printer - I made mine with an inkjet printer, but they also sell waterslide decal paper that works with a laser printer.
And you’ll need the waterslide paper itself. I recommend the transparent paper if you want to be able to see the surface through it, which is what I’m using.
Other supplies and tools you’ll want to have on hand are a can of acrylic sealer, a bowl of tap water and some paper towels.
You’ll need a design! You can make your own, buy one, or use my flower garden design - the garden in this design is filled with images of my paper flowers and paper butterflies! If you make your own, keep it simple - no little bits or thin lines. A rectangle or circle shape works best, but if you’re applying your shape on something like a wine glass, it’s better to go for a precise shape that conforms to the edges of your design.
STEP 1: FIND OR MAKE A WATERSLIDE DECAL DESIGN IN CRICUT DESIGN SPACE
STEP 2. PRINT YOUR WATERSLIDE DECAL FROM WITHIN CRICUT DESIGN SPACE
Print your decal design on the waterslide paper with print settings on glossy photo paper with best quality print. Be sure you print on the glossy side of the paper.
Wait 5 minutes after printing your waterslide decal paper to allow it to dry before moving on to the next step.
STEP 3: SEAL YOUR WATERSLIDE DECAL
In a well-ventilated place, spray acrylic sealer over the entire surface of your now-dry printed sheet.
Wait several minutes and repeat with another coat of acrylic sealer. Then repeat one more time with one more coat of acrylic sealer.
When finished sealing, there will be three coats of acrylic sealer on your printed sheet.
STEP 4: CUT YOUR WATERSLIDE DECAL
    STEP 5: PREPARE YOUR SURFACE
Clean the surface you plan to put your waterslide decal on with alcohol.
STEP 6: APPLY YOUR WATERSLIDE DECAL
Get a bowl of water large enough for your decal to be completely submerged in.
Submerge your decal in the water for 30-60 seconds. While you’re waiting, get the surface of your tumbler, mug, or glass wet (this will help it slide on easier).
Slide the decal off the backing and onto your surface.
STEP 7: DRY YOUR WATERSLIDE DECAL
Wait at least three hours for your waterslide decal to dry before moving on to the next step. Keep your decal out of direct sunlight during this time.
STEP 8: SET OR SEAL YOUR DECAL
To set ceramics or glass, follow the directions on your waterslide decal package.
To seal a tumbler, do another coat of epoxy.

Jennifer, I have been a follower for a long time. I wanted to let you know that I really appreciate the information that you provide. When the gigantic flowers were extremely popular so many people were charging an arm and a leg for flower templates. You gave away free templates. I told everyone I knew. I appreciate your help and educational posts and your willingness to help. Thank you so much, Rhonda

@@JenniferMaker Hi Jennifer, this tutorial was really easy to follow🤗 You always make them fun and informative😍 The part about baking them in the oven; I heard that the smell is intolerable and it's best not to put them in the oven where you cook, and that it's better to use a toaster oven specifically for water slide decals, in a well ventilated area. What's your take on this, or anyone reading who is familiar with the process?

Hi Jennifer. I use waterslide decals on my model rockets, and I've learned to NOT apply them to a painted surface, but to apply a coat of clear gloss first. Then, they'll slide around for re-positioning much easier. Also, the intricate parts of a decal that fold under, or over other parts of the decal can be flipped back over with a artists fine detail brush. That brush made it ssssso much easier since I got me a set of fumbly fingered guy's paws.
    Excellent tutorial Jennifer!

You should try printing them mirrored and applying them backwards...if that makes sense. So basically, when you apply, the backing will be facing you instead of under the decal. It is just as vibrant and a million times faster and easier to apply.

You should note that Waterslide comes in white as well as the clear/transparent. If you use the clear on a dark surface it is a lot harder to see the image and if the image has any white color you need to use the white waterslide not the clear. Also you do not need to seal the waterslide if you use a laser printer.

She has such a soft, sweet, pleasant voice and her instructions are always so clear; however, I do have a hard time hearing her as well.

For those having a difficult time hearing Jennifer... There are a couple of ways to fix it. If you listen on your cell phone... Go to your Google play store and download one of their free volume adjusters. Be careful not to overpower your phone speakers... I have found only a slight increase helps immensely. If u are using a computer to view, I found many inexpensive simple external speakers that simply plug in. I hope this helps someone!

I loved your tutorial. You speak clear and precise and didn't ramble on. I just got a critcut air 2 a few weeks ago. I am learning to use it and this helped me so much.

Absolutely LOVE this project. I googled waterslide paper and yours was the first thing that popped up. Soooo thrilled I clicked on it. Not only are you very precise for directions, I need things broken down Barney style and you nailed it, but your voice....OHHHH MYYY WORRRRRD. So calming like a kindergarten teachers. Definitely helps when you are nervous to attempt a project, but you just gently talked me through it. Thank you THANK you THANK YOU!!! I'm a follower now for as long as you continue.

I got a Cricut as a gift at Christmas and was not very excited and more than a bit frustrated with the Cricut web site and the Cricut support (there really isn't any). Then I found you!. OH, my goodness. I am spending half the day watching you and then the other half making things. Your videos are thorough, to the point, just excellent! The amount of free stuff on your web site is incredible. God bless you, Jennifer.
