Bass Boats Can't Go Here! Lake Chickamauga Kayak Bass Fishing!

  • We're sneaking around the backwaters today to avoid boat traffic. With hundreds of boats on the water and fishing pressure at an all time high, its time to jump in the kayak. Why a kayak in such a big lake? We're able to get into all the places the boats can't go! Come along as Matt catches fish in backwater coves and pockets.
Today is all about finesse. Matt started off with a tiny underspin, a senko, and a shaky head, then added a dropshot to the mix as conditions dictated. There were a few prespawn fish around but the majority of these bass were spawning. Since he was using finesse tackle, Matt added some new rods into the mix as well. He tried out a new Halo KSII Elite, a Savage Gear Black Ops, and the new Ultegra spinning reel and had great success with all of them.
While we love fishing out of the bass boats and using all the modern electronic advantages, there is something very rewarding about getting on the water in a small craft, no electronics, and just going fishing. If you haven't given kayak fishing a try, you really should. Below you'll find links to all the gear, the baits, and the equipment Matt used today. We've included the exact models and specific colors Matt was using as well. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item, except for the kayak link which goes directly to the manufacturer.

In lieu of that smallie smasher...I keep a bag of Missile baits "Bomb Shots" in Fishalicious color, so they can be regular shad color, or dyed with spike it, to be chartreuse, blue, red, green, etc, or a blend of those dyes. I'm in Charlotte NC, so the lakes and ponds around the city get a ton of pressure. Dropshotting/finesse fishing is a go to for me many days. There's something very satisfying about going into a crowded area, and catching fish behind people who aren't catching fish...lol. As always, good video.

It's always so weird seeing different bass from different parts of the country. Like every video I'm always thinking the bass look weird compared to the ones I catch

Great video, loved to see the yak back on the water! Like others have said, it does look strange to see the spinning reel on the chest cam 😆

This is most of my fishing these days right now. I have a 10 ft Pelican Bass Raider, it's a little 2 man scamp I run with an electric trolling motor. I can go anywhere in it, I just can't go too far or too fast haha. I always have one of those floating pool thermometers with me that I drag around for water temp monitoring.

How do you like that boat? We've been considering picking one up next year for a family member that can't maneuver a larger boat.

@@tacticalbassin Love the little boat. Great for smaller water, but works on big water too. It's very stable, I'm 6'10" 300 lbs, my fishing buddy is 6'7", we fit just fine, have never flipped it or fallen out. I've seen people put very small outboards on them too and you can trick them out and modify them. I love the thing, it's just tough in the wind!
