    What I remember?
    The fans staying after the fourth game... Cheering the Padres even though they'd just gotten sweeped. The look of astonishment on the players as they came back out was amazing. I'll never forget it.

    The 84 and the 98 teams were so special.I was working and living in Phoenix, watching the LOS against the Cubs.When Steve Garvey hit the game winning home run in Game 4 off Lee Smith, I remember running up and down the hallways of my office like a little kid. Then watching the 98 team on the last day of the season at Bank One Ballpark in Phoenix, playing the expansion Arizona Diamondbacks. Then playing Houston in the LDS and newcomer Jim Leyritz blasting a home run. Put as beating on the Braves to win the pennant. And then making the trek to NYC and Yankee Stadium. Tony hit the mammoth home run shot off of David Wells. It is a time as San Diego Padres fan's I will always cherish!!!!

    This team was full of clutch players...what a year on 1998...this coming from a Dodger fan raised in San Diego..

      The only thing worse than a Dodger fan is a Dodger fan raised in San Diego, clearly you were raised wrong and you can’t convince me otherwise

    What a great team. That 2-2 pitch to Tino Martinez was a strike. I still believe to this day that the series complexion changes if that pitch was called a strike. But that's baseball... Great memories. It's been a tough day, but great to see Tony Gwynn at the end there. RIP, Tony.

      just an fyi, even Tino Martinez has agreed years later that he looked at strike 3. I also believe like others that world series would have turned out different had the Padres won that game like they should have.

      That Grand Slam on the next pitch shifted all momentum towards the Yankees. Up until that point, they seemed beatable, after that 2-2 pitch, they became unstoppable.

      Tim McPhate I was at a private QnA and Carlos Hernandez stated that it was a strike, no doubt about it.

      Agreed, however, I never quite understood why Bochy didn't bring in Randy Myers or another "reliever" instead of Langston.

    Wow, I know this roster better than the current one. The Pads! Rip Tony, Camy, and Show. Hopefully no one else. Oh I guess Coleman counts. So Rip even though you were sorta fake. (on the radio, in real life he was a grouchy old fart but his wife, you can't get any sweeter or classy)
    I sure hope the BB Gods don't make us wait as long as the cubbie fans. Im 53, long suffering fan. Since I was about 10 I've never missed a Charger game but once PR retires I hope that changes bc of the Fing Spanos family. Yeah Baseball has too many games.
    I can't believe I used to listen to every single game or watched if possible. Jerry Coleman, Bill Campbell, Ted Leitner. talked to me more than my family did. I miss the Q.

    my boy Cammy and Tony are San Diego Padre Leyends. that's what a championship does to get them a stadium. Chokers could be where Petco Park if they won the Super Bowl. Sockers (15), Gulls (6). Padres (5) and Chokers (2). best to the worst in titles.

    Not sure how my fellow Padres fans really thought Kevin Brown was going to re-sign. He was a hired gun just to get Petco Park built.

    The Baseball gods and God knows when it's our year Padres fans. Also It would if have been better if got Rickey hendrson in that.

    • @pianojazzman
      @pianojazzman 7 лет назад

      It would've been nice, but Rickey wasn't part of that 1998 team. He played for the Padres from in 1996 & 1997, and then again in 2001, but he was playing with the Oakland A's in 1998.

    Even Sellout Kevin Brown Huh? I wonder how much did they have to pay him to come...

    • @abruzz0
      @abruzz0 7 лет назад +3

      Everyone knew Brown was gonna be 1 and done..we got a great year out of him

    • @mattray9904
      @mattray9904 6 лет назад +3

      The sellout stuff is so childish. Most people take the most money offered to them. From around '96-'00 and especially 1998, Brown was in the same class as Clemens, Pedro, Johnson, Schilling etc.
