We had a van of 8 of us heading there that night, broke down, caught a lift (not LYFT, this was before then) from family who drove us all down there just in time for the ceremony. SO GLAD we made it. Not a dry eye in the place. The chats of TONY, TONY, TONY delivered chills that evening. RIP

Im going down to the "Gaslamp" this afternoon to meet up with a group of buds...we'll eat ...hang out...and kick it..before we go to the game tonight. Obviously, Mr Gwynn was alive and well, the last time we went to a playoff game at Petco...Boomer Wells, started that game. So, in thinking about how much fun tonight will be, I couldn't help but think of the man, who along with his '98 club, helped to make Petco Park a reality...thats not a myth..thats the truth. Tony would be so damn proud of this current squad.

My wife and I were there that night. God we still miss him. Saw him play several hundred times, cherished them all.

I was thankful for the time when I was a kid in San Diego to be able to go watch Steve Garvey and Tony Gwynn play together what a moment it was for me as a kid

Thanks for leaving this post on all these years. I just happened on it by accident and instantly relived this moment. I chatted with him a few times during Spring Training games in Tucson. He enjoyed speaking with the regular fans. That laugh of his. I got all teary eyed watching this...thanks

It was an emotional night and I'm glad I was there to experience it. As much as Tony was beloved in San Diego I fully expected Petco to be standing room only and it's kind of sad that it wasn't. Nobody has ever meant more or unselfishly done more for this city than Tony Gwynn, The Padres organization arranged this memorial for US...the fan's...so we could have the opportunity to say a final goodbye to this man who gave so much of himself that we dubbed him not just "Mr. Padre" but "Mr. San Diego". If men like Joe Torre and Reggie Jackson can take the time to fly in and pay their respects then us fan's should've been able to take a couple of hours out of one night to be present for one last tribute to Tony Gwynn the man...and the greatest sports figure this city has ever known. Still, it was a pleasure to be there with so many people and families that loved, admired and appreciated him. Thank you Padres for this memorial and thank you Ted Leitner for giving us the opportunity for one last chant of TONY...TONY...TONY.

Fxcking shame the stadium wasn’t sold out or Atleast packed that night. Now it’s packed every night but Mr. Padre deserved it on so many levels

Garvey is nucking futs . I really hope we take number six back Not political, he’s a dodger and he thinks he was on the same talent level the best hitter in baseball ever.
