- These are some of the greatest moments of what was thought to be the best hitter of all time - Tony Gwynn. He died in 2014, and to honor and dedicate him, I created this video to showcase the best moments of Gwynn's career.
Underrated baseball player. He could've got of out San Diego, made far more money and a lot more publicity but he was knew his roots. Tony knew he & his family was loved and respected in San Diego. And like Cal Ripken, Ichiro Suzuki didnt need steriods to inflate his numbers. RIP Tony, we miss you.
And the best man, father, teacher, friend a young boy growing up could ever have the privilege to have met.
You really met him? That's outstanding. I'm irrationally jealous.
@@ronachten2902 yes and I have a jersey signed by him from June 1996.
@@turtle19dad I have conscious memories of attending games since '82. Mostly in Anaheim, some in L.A. and the Murph. Seen lots of tremendous talent. Only a few though seemed to combine that talent with a supreme mental approach. What I mean, is that they stepped into that box and had a plan that they were intent on executing. Carl Yastremski and Tony Gwynn. Others may have been better, but they were so fun to watch. And with Tony, it seemed he was an even better guy. I have met Tony Jr. and he is a hell of a nice guy. Thanks for reading and be well during this strange time.
@@turtle19dad Did he sign it at El Cajon Ford? I went there twice just to meet him when he was their spokesman. Can’t believe we lost such a gem far too early.
His 2000th hit at 2:02 was a textbook Tony Gwynn at-bat. Unlike today's players that try to hit every pitch they see out of the park, he just wanted to put the bat on the ball and put it in play. And he was a master at it.
I saw T Gwynn hit maybe his only walk off HR in June of 96’ against Stl. Best sports moment ive ever seen live
The greatest. I can remember growing up in San Diego. Tony was the man. He still is. I wanted a Padres jersey with Gwynn in the back for so long.
You prove that baseball fans are move educated than basketball fans who only judge greatness by championship rings and not individual stats.Wilt Chamberlain has all the records and yet they call Michael Jordan the greatest. Stupid!
my hero
The greatest.
Ball player.
Para mí el mejor jugador de tacto que ví jugar antes de Hichiro Zuzuki
Mr padre Tijuana fans love you for ever
I had the please of getting to talk with him at a Dodgers/Padres broadcast. He hated Curt Schilling.
*pleasure
Blessed to have had him as a hero growing up - all around great man who is and will always be missed.
As good of a defensive player he was, Tony is among the few players that truly can be defined as a pure hitter. He cared far more about making contact than caring about launching it every at-bat, even if he still had some HR power as well.
62nd like .. I miss u Tony!
Man Joe Buck was bad. He's better now.
Nah he's still bad.
@@skipbayless557 I second that
Not as bad as the announcer that said the padres had won it all when they won the pennant in 1984.
Ese si era un insigne bateador. El eterno bateador de .300.
Siempre le daba a la pelota, era un hombre serio, que respetaba el juego. No como muchos ahora que hacen sus tales "perreos". Que vergüenza.
Miss you Mr. Padre… thank you for everything
Rip Tony Gwynn ! God bless you and yours
When I was a kid in the 80s my mom worked at the Mission Gorge Mc Donald’s by Jack Murphy and would see Tony practically daily, whole crew said they always knew it was him in the drive thru by his unique voice. The man had a thing for Big Macs 😂❤ god San Diego misses him, I think he’s our “ Angel in the outfield “ now. Ring in the 2023 super Padres 💯💪
Additionally this man would always sign an autograph for someone that worked there , no muss , no questions. The most solid gold person and player in the generation. Money could’ve never swayed him out of San Diego , like all of SD , he knew he had it all right here at home. Winning the World Series this year is gonna taste soooo good . LFGSD 💪💛🤎
1:27 wow that woman definitely did not want to kiss that man.
Kevin Towers. Rest in peace
What a incredible man ... 👏 ... Tony Gwynn
0:54 Lmao “the Padres have won it all!” Yeah I guess that’s all you could’ve won knowing Detroit was gonna steamroll you 😂
