Combat allways did an excellent job of portraying the humanity of soldiers & even the Germans @ times. The generation of the shows writers had served in WWII & the war had only been over for 20yrs @ that point. TV shows were of much better quality IMO back then as both the writing & acting were pro level whereas todays TV seems to lack so much w/the exception of special efx. Having been born in 1970 I missed seeing this in its 1st run & only saw it late night in the 1980's & I never knew that the series had gone on to be done in color. Im thankfull I can watch the whole series now w/out comercials on youtube. TYVM variousvideos2012 for posting this
i was born in 1952. i remember the vets. always in a suit. people never swore in public. no rap music only big band era music. one earner, 2 parent home. much respect for parents. teachers in school used corporal punishment , i knew what bathroom to use. i loved my parents. both are gone now
And most of them were really realistc done. Just with the German, it depended on the skills of the actors with languages. The French was handled by far better.
I always felt that James MacArthur being on Hawaii Five-O was a total waste of his career he had a pretty darn good screen presence and wasn't allowed to do much on that show his appearance in the battle of the Bulge was pretty darn good
Watching combat series now.!, I feel happy., remembering my younger days.!, I 'm only 8 yes old.!, My father is a veteran., In World 2., fighting along side with american soldier.,Here in our country Philippines.!, Against Japanese forces.!, Under general Yamashita.!, father tell the stories.!, The hardship and a sacrifice of the pilipino and american soldier.,Who give there live's for the freedom and democracy.!!!
Thank you for being grateful. My grandpa was an Army engineer & helped rebuild Manila & the other parts of the Philippines. He said the Japanese soldiers tore EVERYTHING to smithereens. I won't say what they did to the Filipinos. . . it's too horrible.
SAMUEL gontz - "ALL MANKIND SHOULD HAVE LEARNED A LESSON FROM THIS WAR." If only it were so easy, the old saying goes “if one doesn’t learn from history, one is bound to repeat it.” And I think we’re repeating it over & over again all over this world with all of our conflicts and hatreds. I don’t think people take history very seriously, and therefore don’t see their own repetitions of what already was. It may be a different age but its repetition just the same. Vary sad. But I love Combat.
I will never get tired Watching Combat! I am a die hard fan of Vic Morrow. Sad to know of his sudden death. I missed him and the cast of Combat. Thank you!! E. Velasco
Two years ago, I held a ,45 Tomson, like Sanders carried, even without the Magazine that "BEAST" was HEAVY, No way, I could march in combat, with that all day, I heard Vic Morrow, carried a "Wooden" fake mostly, in scenes
According to various sources both the M1 Garand, the M1928A1 Thompson shown in the series, weighed in at about 9.5 lbs, while the BAR weighs a little over 19 lbs! My former Marine father loved the BAR and was issued one in the Korean War but talk about how heavy it was and how the magazines were "crap" Makes me feel for Kirby lugging his around!
A great series and thanks for posting! After re-watching the series from S01E01, I would like to do a poll of those who have watched a number of episodes. Who do you think has the least chance of getting through an episode alive: 1) a replacement for Saunders' squad, 2) a German sent to flank the squad, 3) someone from G-2 sent out with the squad, or 4) a Star Trek "redshirt"? (I think all have pretty close to zero chance unless saved by a special plot need...)
I have the entire series on DVD, I believe on the last sesson you see more of Vic than Ric,Also a boat load of famous guest stars, Robert Duvall,James Mccarther,, James Daly, Bill Bixby, Sal Mineo,Fernando Lamas, Ted Knight,James Franciscus, Claude Akins.👌😊
I' ve seen all those actors and U was amused by the roles played notably by Telly Savalas, Jeffrey Hunter, and Lee Marvin acting them all as if they really were combatants/ veterans of the WW2! They were all Superb!
COMBAT and Vic Morrow motivated me to PROUDLY serve in the U.S. Army. WE need MORE PATRIOTIC TV To our kids & grandkids like COMBAT...PorkChop from Tallahassee, Florida... 🇺🇸 USA.
Except it made the Germans terrible shots that always missed which according to my uncle that was an veteran was not true and when fighting on equal terms inflicted equal causalities on us
That's cool, me and your dad probably like the same shows. I didn't get to see all of the eps, because back then there was only 1 tv in the house and the fact being that this show was on Tue. night I believe at 7:30, and guess who hogged the set? My old man of course, so we didn't get to watch much tv. He was into boxing and whatever, and that went on into the 70's which at that time I was working 2 and sometimes 3 jobs so in addition didn't see much tv then, either. So, this is a treat !! .
Hi ! Been waiting for someone to put these up for a looooooong time !! Many thanks and after season 5, any ideas on what you will do next?? You started with the 4th season, so can we expect to see any more eps??
The other fun thing is all of the eucalyptus trees that they are constantly wandering through. Native to Australia and found throughout Southern California, but not so much in Europe.
I think the kid pinned down by the machine gun in the opening scene played the Genie in 7th Voyage of Sindad, fantasy flick made in 50s. Ray Harryhausen sp? Did the special effects, stop and go animation...cyclops, dragon, Skelton sword fight...
AWESOME TELEVISION SHOW OF THE EUROPEAN FRONT DURING WW2.EXCELLENT ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND SET DESIGN.ALWAYS WAS INTRIGUED BY THIS SHOW AND THE FACT THAT IT SHOWED IN GREAT DETAIL HOW PEOPLE GOT KILLED FIGHTING FOR THEIR RESPECTED FLAGS.FORTUNATELY THEY GOT THEIR SUPPLY LINES CUT AND RAN OUT OF GAS AND MEN TO FIGHT US. ALL MANKIND SHOULD HAVE LEARNED A LESSON FROM THIS WAR.
ever notice only Hanley, lil joh and caje actually aim their weapons? saunders and kirby can will their endless supply of bullets on target....but with that said i always and still do love the show.....

How come Saunders has only a single 30 round mag for his Thompson? NO other equipment, other than the pistol belt, with holster and pistol mag pouch. No canteen, pack.....nothing.
Maybe somebody more knowledgeable in WW2 matters can clear up a question I have. As a NCO, would Saunders have been prohibited from wearing a helmet cover that would have covered the horizontal white stripe that NCOs wore on the backs their helmets? I know that the commissioned officers wore vertical white stripes on the backs of their helmets. Personally, I wouldn't have wanted either kind of stripe on my helmet - making me a more inviting target for german snipers.
+Jim Nesta No prohibition existed. You wore what was available. His cover was less than standard but they were around. you could draw stripes on them if you wanted.
Vic Morrow had an older brother who served in the Marine Corps in the WW2 Pacific Theater. He was a member of the short lived Paramarine Brigades. In honor of his brother, Vic wore pieces of a Paramarine camouflage parachute over his helmet. The parachute silk got ratty quickly, so we see different pieces throughout the 5 seasons.

at 10:12 In a scene with Vic Morrow , Rick Jason lights a cigarette. A filtered cigarette which did come into general use in the United States until a decade after the story takes place. Thats just about the only mistake Ive ever seen in this series

Me 2 about 8.9 years old and still watching..my older brother was in Vietnam thank God he back..
I remember when i was a little boy, maybe around 4 years old, watching Combat from a black & white tv. Popeye & Combat were ny favourites then..
Only the big BANK owner's win wars every one else loses.
Nba sime final
Big money 💰
There was something about “Combat” in black and white that made it seem more authentic to a WWII story.
That's exactly what I think I ĺike B&W version
yes matches the WW2 Kraut footage
Wirklich|
Right. More realistic because it's closer to the real footage, plus it's grittier that way...like the subject matter.
Yet they did have color film back then .
Unbeatable world war two entertainment and can't see any future TV show beating it either. 👍

I was an army medic for 7 years and what the heck was doc thinking bandaging Saunders' jacket sleeve?
Gov equipment isn't cheap!
maybe he wanted the jacket.
🤔I know you right .
It is just a show 😂
I hope Opie and Andy don't get caught in the crossfire.

MemphoOnTheMississippi haha, ALL those guys get killed!
Leonard Nimoy and Dean Stockwell were replacements who made it through an episode alive. Dennis Weaver and Nick Adams didn't.
I haven't seen a German sent to flank the squad survive.

Not a single battle fought in Germany. Not a single one.

All Germans shown in the episodes are worst marksmen in the Wehrmacht!
