@@wighty We should make list of when Steven broke a string while performing Trains :) It happened in Hartford, CT 2007, but it looked like it was unexpected, it took a while for his guy to hand him a new tuned guitar.
The first time you hear this song, you are struck by the shear beauty and greatness. It moves from your ears to your heart to your soul and you need to hear it again or you will not be able to go on living. The second time you are compelled to understand what it's about. You research the lyrics, you google the meaning. You realize there is literally a cult around it and you are already in it. From there on, the joy of this song is all ANTICIPATION for each chord, verse, chorus, pause...a rollercoaster of goosebumps and heartache from start to finish. 100% brilliant masterpiece.

Agreed!! 2 months ago I would have said Porcu who?? I was at an estate sale and just happened to pick up In Absentia and Fear of A Blank Planet on DVD-AUDIO 5.1 because the name sounded interesting. Those OOP items are expensive on eBay. I’ve been a fan ever since and have spent too much money buying the rest of their albums in surround sound. I don’t know how I missed these guys especially during their heyday. I was too busy listening to Rush lol.

Funny thing is i know steven wilson through memes but at that time i didn't know who that was and didn't giving a chance to listen his works. The pandemic gave me a lot of time to discover new music and then i discover porcupine tree and didn't want to listen anything else

The synchronized audience clapping at 4:12 sounds like the one that can be heard almost throughout in the song (the sound of a running train) which is something I absolutely love about this masterpiece of a song. Just gives me chills.

04:30 the sound of John's guitar at this part always made me wanna cry, they couldn't have found a better colour to depict the feel of a gentle August rain, or something like that, it's difficult to find an adequate verbal notion... But this is only one of a thousand of perfect touches in this song. It's like a vivid impressionist painting. God, what a masterpiece.

I found this song through Paul David's 30 greatest acoustic songs......this was 28. I was drawn to the chord progression immediately and came to the live recording. I found this video and was immediately inducted into the cult. Not just an excellent guitar composition, but a beautiful piece of music. I can't believe it's taken 20 years to get here, but I'm glad I came.
So underrated and under the ”radar” for the mainstream But hey they are one of the best and most talented bands out there, and now they seems to be back for touring and mayby a new album is on its way!! 🤩

At 5:26 a fan yells "Yea" and it supercharged me (and the crowd). But, if you know Steve, you know that he doesn't like spontaneous vocalizations from the audience (at 5:26 I also cringed with this knowledge). I was once at a show in NYC when someone yelled out like that. Steve halted the music and admonished the guy. After that moment, you could hear a pin drop (we had all been roundly chastised like a bunch of little kids). He then started the song from the beginning and on went the night into glorious, ecstatic PT oblivion.

That was a great performance. I saw them while working at a small club in Minneapolis when they toured in support of this album. I liked them so much I bought the disc from the merch table. On the rare occasion this song comes on my feed I remember how fantastic this band is. Thanks for the musical joy!

This is the best thing about live shows. The little flaws, the unpredictable malfunctions are the parts of it, all of these.
But this (broken string) was staged part of trains on that tour :) Happened also on other concerts (not all of them) so it wasn't unpredictable ;)
