- To be honest, when I first read the lyrics to "damaged beyond repair" after his passing, it sent shivers down my spine.
Interpret in those lyrics what you believe is true or not. Its up to you.

When I listened Soon Departed first time (Hexed was just released) I noticed how deep the lyrics are. After his death, the song has become even more sad. R.I.P. Legend

It's indeed very emotional. There are more bits and pieces across those last lyrics, especially on I worship chaos and hexed...
True that. But those don't sound like remorse, for me at least.
In the lyrics you can see the shift around RRF. It starts on this album and progressively continues about his own health, the downside of substance abuse and how his body was giving up and the remorse that comes with that knowledge.
The albums before (especially the lyrical "me") it's more about party, fun alcohol stories, the drawbacks and the shit they went through.
@@Dignityofficial_ i'll have to agree with you. The last albums have more of a sad tone and its different from the mid - late 00s. Back when alexi talked about partying in a fun tone. We see that on songs like Living dead beat wich is a song that talks about partying and not not caring about the consequences or death that comes from it.
It's obvious that lyrics got much darker with RRF. Keeping in my mind that Not My Funeral was a sort of fuck off response to a person who told Alexi that he would die in 10 years, all of it hits really different now. I think you can feel over the last decade how he's kinda talking to death in his lyrics, denying his funeral, fighting, expressing his pain and fear and those 3 tracks from Hexed - Hexed, Soon Departed and This Road, man, they sound like he is more acceptive of his passing. Idk, maybe, I got carried away. Still crazy.
By the way, nice vocals, I dig it.

All For Nothing hits me really hard ever since he passed... Not only are the lyrics sad to hear after he's gone but can we please talk about the solo and keyboard trade off the last section of the song! The guitar solo is probably the most emotional and lovely solo I've ever heard Alexi play, you can just feel the emotions in every note in that solo, he really poured his heart into that solo...

Oh man I feel that. I remember vividly when I bought IWC and listened to it for the first time. It came the day I drove like 50 miles to a friends birthday and listened to it on the way. then all for nothing hit hard, the solos at the end and I was like what. When did that happen, alexi, who hurt u? I didn't even know I would listen to anything like that on a cob record ever.
Hits much different now for sure.

A bit late to the party, but an interesting fact: about 9 or 10 years before Alexis passing, a doctor apparently told him he would most likely die in the next 10 years. Alexi was understandably not very pleased with the news and got angry.
I read that interview. It's sad that it actually turned out to be true.

Me and my friend always loved those lyrics and would shout them when listening to that song but now the fun is kind of gone and its more of a somber feeling that fun hearing it now. Still love the track though, just hits different

I was born and raised in the United States but after falling in love with your home countries amazing musicians I wanted so badly to move to 🇫🇮 I'm married and have a kid now so it wouldn't be so easy or practical to move across the world now but one day I will hopefully take a trip over just to finally get to experience your awesome country!

it's very devasting....
I gotta say, when I wrote the script for that one and dug through all the lyrics, i had goosebumps all over my body when I read some of those lyrics.
It's really devastating. And now after all that Shitstorm what his cause of death was and his health conditions...to be fair...it was right in front of us, hidden in plain sight over the last few years.
Making this video wasn't easy. I shed a tear here and there. But that's fine. We're all humans that may or may not connect with people.
But I'm glad I put this one out there, cuz it seems to connect people, let them heal, dwell in memories and relate to the stories told that clear some mysteries.

I dont think it was foreshaddowing more like reflecting on his lifestyle, mental state before quitting the drugs, excessive drinking and drinking on the road. But of course they hit different now. Very emotional.

I Literally just printed copies for my 2nd CD that comes out in April but I'd love to have you on a song on the 3rd CD even though nothing is in the works ATM since I just finished the last one. My band is called Death Portrait and all my stuff is on my channel.Huge bodom influence but I still have my own sound. in my opinion alexi knew he was wrong and he was going to die. He especially showed it in the song soon departed. It was not for nothing that Children of Bodom broke up after the Hexed tour in 2019...
By the way you can be a successor of Alexi , such a good vocal :D

I think the members didn't want to speed up his death by touring, rehearsal and stuff. I still believe they "left" the band so alexi could rest and watch out after himself. They didn't want to be a factor of his death.
But they knew, he wouldn't stop. He lived for the music. It's sad.

Hexed was literally nothing but songs talking about how he was suffering or was going to die soon.
It is truely sad and hard to listen to hexed by now.
Exactly. In retrospect, reading the lyrics in Hexed was like reading the diary of a dying man in bitter acceptance of his eventual fate... truly painful. Rest in peace, Alexi. Thank you for the music and memories.
There was a Instagram live video from the rest of cob talking about Alexis passing. It's here somewhere on RUclips too.
They talked about the day they got the message about his passing. They literally said that they wasn't shocked, they were just sad. They were just waiting for his death. Especially because alexi didn't want to accept healthcare. He didn't want to accept the medical advices and treatments from doctors. It's just a sad story. This even shows in his autopsy. He had painkillers and drugs for insomnia in his blood. Nothing else.
I hope he found his peace in the end.

(I think deep inside Alexi already knew that the end is near, he must have had bad pain too. I mean from RRF on there are more dark and self-reflective tendencies in the lyrics... it becomes clear on "Hexed" if you listen carefully!)

Great selection and again man your vocals are insane! I've seen a few other guys do Alexi's vocals on RUclips but nobody can touch yours! It seems so natural and almost effortless when you do vocals. You even have that Alexi punk attitude. You sing it like you wrote it, I can't say enough good stuff about how good this is! And then there's your excellent guitar playing too. Yeah it's pretty natural and effortless. I don't even "try" to sound exactly like him. I was surprised too when I recorded the first vocals over bodom tracks lol.

I remember reading the lyrics to Damaged Beyond Repair a few weeks ago and thinking "shit, that's different now..."
There's another one which was particularly jarring. Even older songs like Blooddrunk and Roadkill Morning are interesting to read now. Good stuff, though; you should do a vocal tutorial.
That happend to me too. I was looking for my favorites and stumbled upon many where I thought "damn...this hurts".
But i didn't know if anyone else would feel the same about that.
I'm actually glad that I made this video. It brings people together who like the same stuff, share stories, emotions and she'd tears. And that's wonderful.
There are many which are definitely jarring. Especially from the latest albums.
About the vocal tutorial. I got that on my list. Guess I'm writing the script for that in a few days, because a couple of people were asking.

Well yes, but actually no.
This video I actually focused on the later albums, since alexi was well aware of his health issues around that time. The lyrics shifted around RRF into a more darker and remorse way.
My favorite album is in fact relentless reckless forever. But i love it cuz of the package. I love the mix, the sound, the lyrics, the solos, the structures etc.
Ask me about the solos and I'm probably more into the earlier stuff, melodies, structures etc.
I listen to all of their albums. Like I got every one in my car and I'm switching the disks one at a time and listen to them in it's entirety.
But i gotta admit that I like the technical stuff more and that's more present in the later albums.
But if I had to choose between later and earlier bodom...dunno. hard question I couldn't answer, since they changed over the time in a drastic way.
You know, even if it was "hating", I'm ok with that. I respect other people's opinion and there is no such thing as an absolute one.
And I'm never mad about "bad" comments. I'm sorry for these people who comment in a rude way, cuz they put energy in something that doesn't change anything. This world is cruel, every person got something heavy to carry with em. You never know if these words hit the person in a way that kick them although they are already down and broken.
And you never now the motivation behind bad comments. Maybe they feel better about themselves after that to cope with something like domestic violence to feel superior as an anonymous person on the web...and I don't blame em then.
I can take it. It's fine, I don't mind.
Never hate back if there isn't a good reason. There is no need to fight over little things like these. It's not worth the time.
