Best Reaper videos. Fun and compelling, and it's always frankly astonishing to hear the impressive evidence of your staggering musical skill! Thanks for doing these. Totally invaluable tutorials and plugin walkthroughs/comparisons.
@@LetsTalkAboutReaper wow Myk I'm not even active in the Discord! Yeah, I'm trying it out to see if it fits better. Oddly enough there appear to be far more people with this name (or who registered the url anyway) than with my old name. Who cares though, you rule!
@@LetsTalkAboutReaper I don't have discord installed on the mixing pc atm as I was wasting too much time on there. But I've kept it on the gaming pc. I'll have weeks on and weeks off, working out better for me due to my procrastination habits lol
Just threw this on the master mix of a project(Reaper also) like you demonstrated and it's quite impressive. My main goto was TR5 Comprexxor, but this could be a new goto
Keep seeing good things about the Comper. Never jumped into Analog Obsession, but this one seems really cool! Recently been peppering the Kush Novatron on everything, which seems to have a similar mentality (having different compression styles in one unit), and I'm really enjoying that - so I might have to give this one a go!
My first viewing of your work. Great video. Thank you for being so methodical and precise. I've been using AO plugins for a couple of years, but not this one - the serial thing I find confusing, but am determined to get my head round it now I've watched this. Any chance of an instructional video on how to get the best out of serial compression? :)
Welcome, and thanks for watching! I could try to do some sort of video regarding serial compression, but for the time being, a good example I can think of right off hand is a common technique on vocals where a fast compressor is used first to catch transients, followed by a slower compressor to smooth it out. Each compressor is doing a little bit instead of one doing a lot, and it tends to lead to smoother, more even results. You might grab some free multi tracks from Cambridge MT and experiment on some vocals, I think you could learn to hear what is doing a lot better than with drums or guitars.
I have had the comper for about a week, and I've been using on most tracks that need compression, I like it especially for vocals, I have been using analogue obsession other plugins for a year or two
Yeah been using Comper, really terrific with the parallel type buttons and serial routing. Nice to have this common workflow all in one place and it sounds great.
Having high quality FET into opto serial compression in one plugin, is so nice, especially given its many other uses, plus it's pay what you want. All aces.
Hi Mike, I should try this and see how it performs against the usual combo 1176 followed by the LA2A.... I am curious to know the difference in sound as I think in terms of cpu this compressor will be lighter load.
I paused at 45 seconds to jump down here and say that I really like Comper. It's probably my favorite compressor plugin in the last 12 months, certainly my favorite from Analog Obsession. Techivation recently released a compressor called T-Compressor which operates under a similar premise but has a very different implementation. Frankly I get more useful vocal & voiceover sounds from Comper more easily than I get from T-Compressor. The only caveat for me is that comper is VST3 only and won't run in OBS (yet). Okay, unpause. 😁
Great video but some feedback, if I may. Adjust your camera so your eyes are on the upper third grid line rather than in the center of the shot, that way we get to see your magnificent beard in all it's glory.
I need a different lens. I'm using a 16mm but on micro four thirds camera, which equals a 2x crop factor, so it's as if I'm using a 32 mm lens as compared to a full frame camera. So because of how my camera sits on my desk, I'm slightly limited at the moment. I also am a fan of manual focus so having the camera within arms length is must. Hoping to grab a 10mm or lower lens in the near future. Thanks for the comment, and thanks for watching!
@@LetsTalkAboutReaper It does with a little manipulation. Select one, ctrl-click the next, ctrl-B to swap. Then ctrl-click UNselect the first and ctrl-click the third, ctrl-B
Agreed, I suppose what I meant was there wasn't a way to seamlessly do the switch in real time without some fumbling. In retrospect, I probably could have used that Blind Test plugin to auto switch them based on a set amount of bars and a loop.
I already have Comper but not really used it yet, I actually liked it more than the TRacks, I felt the guitars sounded better on teh Comper but the snare sounded better on the SSL emulation great demo of all 3 :D
Hi Mike! Thanks for sharing your awesome video. I've downloaded plugins from AO but they don't show in my list in Reaper. Any chance you know how to do this? Thanks again, Chris 👍🏻
Did you use an installer or extract from a .zip? Are you sure the install location is exposed to reaper? This should be an easy one to troubleshoot if you're able to hop on discord and share a few screenshots
Just to correct you in your video, the LA2A is NOT a VCA compressor but it is a Opto compressor. An API 2500 as well as the SSL buss compressors are VCA compressors for example.
Hey Mike, I like your videos and I am a fellow Reaperite. But I LA-2A is opto, not VCA. Sorry for nitpicking -- keep up the good work!
No worries, I am not too good to be corrected and I do make mistakes 🤣
Will pin this comment so the correction is noted

5:22 How do you hear the extra "distortion" on already distorted guitars? 😂
Seemed like the Comper brought out the snare better than the others.
@ 3:00 so funny 😁

Hi Myk, nice video, thanks for sharing. Can I ask what Reaper theme you are using? Thanks
Looks like the stock theme to me. Either that or White Tie's theme builder script, which would be stock with minor mods
Btw, to toggle plugins, highlight the active plugin and the bypassed one and then press ctl B to switch between them.
That doesn't work to switch between three, though. It only toggles the state of all selected plugins

Thank you. I've added a note in the description about the mislabeling.
I sadly stopped using Analog Obsession plugins when an update caused me to lose session setting. Do they still lack backwards compatibility?
