- Laura Ann Branigan was an American singer, songwriter, and actress.
Her signature song, the platinum-certified 1982 single "Gloria", stayed on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 for 36 weeks, then a record for a female artist, peaking at No. 2.
It also reached number one in Australia and Canada. In 1984, she reached number one in Canada and Germany with the U.S. No. 4 hit "Self Control".
Laura released 7 studio albums, had 13 Top-100 hits in the U.S. - 7 of them peaked inside the Top-40.
Laura sadly passed away in her sleep at her lodge in East Quogue, New York, on August 26, 2004
The cause was attributed to a previously undiagnosed ventricular brain aneurysm.

So true, she was amazing and had a great back catalogue.
A real shame radio stations ignore her music.
I grew up in the 70s and was totally in love with Karen Carpenter. I still watch The Carpenter Videos on RUclips. All good. Never realized that The Wrecking Crew was part of there success. To Me she sang like the Female equivalent to James Taylor. God Bless Ya Karen Carpenter. 🙏

Excellent collection of her songs here. My top 3 of hers are mentioned: The Lucky One, Self Control and Satisfaction. I would have included Touch and Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow (don't know if those were actual hits or not). But still, very good.
