Hazel Dean released soo many great songs. Sad she only ever had 1 number 1 single.I think if she released her songs much later they would have done a lot better. Seriously under appreciated artist.
I know she was big in the gay scene in the UK, so her getting to number 1 in a South Africa under the ultra-conservative Apartheid regime is rather ironic.
Good to see South Africa included! In the 70s and 80s, South Africa had many hits unique to that country by overseas acts. Some No.1 hits in South Africa that weren't No.1s elsewhere (at least to my knowledge) ... I've only included songs that were hits in other countries as well Booker T & The MG's, "Time Is Tight" (1969) Percy Sledge, "Come Softly To Me" (1970) The Archies, "A Summer Prayer For Peace" (1971) Dobie Gray, "Loving Arms" (1974) Joe Dolan, "Lady in Blue" (1976) Lou Rawls, "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" (1976) Jona Lewie, "Louise (We Get It Right)" (1981) Odyssey, "Going Back To My Roots" (1981) Dr. Hook, "Baby Makes Her Blue Jeans Talk" (1982) Joan Armatrading, "Drop the Pilot" (1983) Silver Pozolli, "Around My Dream" (1985) Gino Vannelli, "Wild Horses" (1987) Some unique-to-Rhodesia/Zimbabwe No.1 singles: R.B. Ontario, B.C. and Quebec played a role in letting Madonna Cherish be No. 1 in Canada. That was around the time the Blue Jays put together competitive teams from the mid to late 80's up to the dynasty early 90's.
I just found that out (I went through the rabbit hole of checking all her songs to see if she also had #1s in just one country, and omg Romania used to really stan her in the early 00s lol).

Great! Sandra had so many hits back then. She was very known in my country, Chile 🇨🇱
