Its so hard to choose who you want to support because bjorn is such a pure soul and actually wants to behave like a good king to his people and doesn't carry any notion of cruelty with him like Ivar. At the same time you want to support Ivar because of everything he's been through since his childhood of being a cripple, plus all the social criticism he's endured because of his condition you really have to tip your hats for the writers and the production for making it so difficult to choose who you want to support.
But in the old days the strongest man always ruled. And ivar is the strongest among them (not physically of course but mentally and also he never lost a battle bc he is the smartest one so he is the best choice)
That thing where someone because of bad childhood/condition turns mass murderer and gets sympathy is really annoying. Fuck him really.

@@iamertsahin he lost once? Have you seen the show? Bjorn lost the second battle of the Civil War, lost taking the city and than he lost the first time against the Russ vikings. He only defeated Ivar in the first battle because Ivar didn't wanna waste all of his men. The second time it was because he was literally let into the city or he wouldn't have won and the third time is when he called all of Norway to help him to defeat Ivar.
Bjorn didn't even try to switch his tactics In the Civil War which is why Ivar slaughtered him. Before you say "he only won because of frankish troops" literally if you watch the scene before they charge look at how many men Ivar still had. He didn't need the Franks to win but used them so he didn't waste his own men.

@@Dudush90 fire mechanism?? He literally ordered to pour oil on them and that's it. The only thing Ivar really added to the defenses was the iron gate. Everything else was built by Laegertha

This scene is fantastic thinked and made. Ivar's strategies are the best. He might be a tyrant, a cripple and he could not beat Bjorn 1 at 1 but we must admit that he's the smartest. What a powerfull scene. The fear in Bjorn's eyes and the hate in Ivar's voice when he yelled "archers" is just...speechless!! Good job!
Ivar was also a much more interesting character than Bjorn. Especially in season 6. He helped a boy escape an abusive uncle and he saved his brother from getting killed by Prince Oleg.

In The Tales of Ragnar's Sons they did fight together. Ivar, Bjorn, Sigurd, Hvitserk and Ubbe were brothers who fought on the same side and they conquered most of Britain and a lot of Europe

This scene is beyond movie theatrics, this is a man speaking in sorrow. The acting is above supreme and the feeling is matched. The 2 actors (as brothers) knew exactly what to do for their characters. This was devastating, brilliant and beautiful.
It was sad to see Bjorn broken and defeated especially by his own brother, not only that when he cried and pleaded his old friends and neighbors to remember who he was and to open their eyes about Ivar, that just broke my heart.
Ivar won the battle Bjorn stole the hearts and ultimately won the war
Love how this parallels Ragnars speech to Rollo when he betrayed him

You'd think after all the times the brothers have fought alongside or against Ivar they'd have learned by now he doesn't play by their rules. He adapts, invents, thinks sideways, and spots all the holes in your plan before you ever leave camp. And if you somehow sidestep all that he's just as bloodthirsty and vicious as Ragnar ever was.
Bjorn: Leads an army that kills many of Kattegat's people.

This was actually the moment when I punched the floor. I was so sick of Bjorn losing. I felt his pain. In TV shows we need to win through our heroes. I needed that victory.
But the hero here is ivar not bjorn. Lagertha attacked kattegat while the sons and ragnar were away. What a sneaky bastard. Definitely deserved to be gutted but unfortunately she was only stabbed.
I feel this comment, i was 100% on bjorns side, couldnt stand ivar at this point but his character is brilliant and i can appreciate him, bjorn is an OG and filled a part of the hole ragnar left behind

Ivar is the best after Ragnar
Ragnar was a gentleman. Whatever the case, he had a brotherly love. But Ivar not. he is a monster. He can betray anyone belongs him for his own purpose. But Ragnar never did such things.
@@donbosco316 Ivar loved his brother Hvitserk. In season 6 he saved him from death. He also helped Prince Igor escape his abusive uncle Prince Oleg. Prince Igor was the rightful heir to the Rus kingdom and Ivar restored that.

Yeah Bjorn, you were the guy who left to the desert after the revenge of Ragnar. You were the guy who left Ubbe to deal with Ivar's personality even though you were the big brother and the leader of them.
It's because of his stupid decisions that lead to this moment, if Bjorn would have stayed and deal with Ivar from the beginning, none of this would have come to fruition. GG Bjorn... Many ppl think that he is greater than Ragnar, but he isn't. He is just like prime Rollo, only brawn but no brains. Just like the time he left Rollo in Paris and Ragnar scolded him for doing so when he woke up from his coma.

Well, it's actually lagertha who started all of this, she killed aslaug, if she didn't there will be no civil war, ivar would stay in york and invade other cities. Bjorn went to desert to explore new worlds, what's wrong with that ? He has been fighting with ragnar since he was 17. Also, you say bjorn has no brain, you're wrong, he outsmarted ivar twice, in the first battle of civil war, when ivar lost, and in season 6 ep11 when he died. And you accuse bjorn because he left rollo in paris, it was actually ragnar's fault, he should have told bjorn not to trust rollo. And ragnar himself said in season 4 ep1 that he knows rollo better than anyone, it's his brother. So it's ragnar's fault. And btw, rollo is not dumb, did you forget how he outsmarted ragnar and defeated him in paris??

In any case I believe that bjorn made some very bad choices that lead to this moment, and leaving ubbe to deal with ivar was one of them. As ragnar would say : '' i am your leader, and I just left " exactly what bjorn did when he left to the desert... He had responsabilities as a leader which he chose to ignore and led to this moment

It's lagertha's fault by the way, not bjorn. Plus, there's a diffrence between a leader and a king. Bjorn wasn't king, so he had the right to leave. And leaving ubbe in charge wasn't a mistake.
@@othmanehaldaoui well, if you want to go back to the first seasons, it's actually Ragnar's fault for cheating on Lagertha and leaving Aslaug pregnant with Ubbe --> Lagertha felt betrayed and wanted her old position back --> killed Aslaug --> Ivar wants revenge.... Ubbe was still young and didn't know how to deal with Ivar and I think that Bjorn knew that and left anyway. I don't remember exactly... who was king when Ragnar was avenged? As I remember, Bjorn was the leader of the great army and led them to victory against Aelle, but then, when the battle was over, Bjorn just agreed that the great army should split up? That's dumb... If you want to be leader, you should be all the way, not just when it suits you....
Bjorn isn't going to defeat Ivar in battle. That victory Lagetha's forces had against Ivar's forces at the start of the civil war was the exception. Not the rule. Fighting Ivar in battle is just playing to his strengths. Ivar is by far the best general of the two.

I didn't like the ending to the season. Ivar completely beat them and then they have his wife just open the gates for them after all that. Felt a bit cheap.
Then how about when Ivar used the support of Rollo's soldiers to fight Bjorn?? This work's both ways mate. It's true Ivar is a better strategist than Bjorn, and all the other sons of Ragnar. But if he hadn't had the help of Rollo first, then he'd probably be dead.
Feels a bit cheap, but it speaks to the fact that Ivar's downfall is his own narcissism
It's shows that at the end, even those who loved him the most could see what Ivar really is: a monster. Besides, is a historic rule: be careful in how you treat the people that know what is your weakness.

I loved how the whole battle sequence felt like a game of chess between the brothers. When ivar dropped the gate trapping bjorn and his forces it was like checkmate. I personally prefer ivar to bjorn because i can't help but admire his sheer ability as a tactician, it is so entertaining to watch.

I like Ivar, but not as king or God, I love the simple one. He even didn't hesitate to kill his bigger brother. Ivar season 5 is the most cruel. In Russia he became good, but when he came again in Norway, he had again the wish to be king of Norway again.
