I had twins .My daughter’s legs turned way in.The orthopedic dr cased her at 3 months to put them into position .He changed the casts every 3 weeks until they were in proper position. After doing this for 3 months they were fine and as an adult has no issues.
It’s strange really, when the kitten is young it’s a lot easier to fix an injury like that. So I’d expect a vet to know this and would be able to fix it.
@@phoenixflamegames1 Coming from a pre-vet student, seeing a kitten like this is rare and many vets might assume its a genetic issue. And depending on the place, not all would feel comfortable trying to treat a kitten that young. So euthanasia is given both to ease the pain and discomfort for the kitten, and to take the pressure off the owner. Not all owners are as dedicated. But I might be biased, considering I'm located in a more rural area, so we mostly handle fully grown cats/dogs, or livestock.
@@darkkitty2830 Yeah, idk. I just don't see why testing wasn't done before just assuming it was a genetic issue. This isn't a rural area. Even if the leg couldn't be saved, three legged cats get around just fine in most cases.
The fact that other vets suggested euthanasia breaks my heart. If it was an internal issue where she had little to no chance of recovery, then yes. But cats and dogs can live fine with just 3 limbs. I cant imagine taking something so tiny and pure out of the world its only just come in to 😭
Bad kittens get taped to the xray machine. But seriously that poor baby, thankyou for all you do no matter the case❤. The doctors that said to put her down shame on them, everyone deserves a chance. My heart break when I see anyone in the profession of taking care of others have their heart and passion get beat down until they just dont care anymore.💔 I wish people could just try to be kinder.
My young calico hears these babies crying and is looking for them. She has only been with me two weeks now, she was a foster who was rescued from a rough life that included a litter when shes barely more than a baby herself. I got her from her foster family and shes going to get spayed soon so we dont have to worry about more babies for her.
What a wonderful vet ,just watched the way the love and care came through him, saving this dear little one.Bless Him ,And watched him with that kitten to help the leg straighten to a good position .I love seeing this ,that a life is saved once again .
I love this case. Because the owner is a very admirable cat parent, and is setting such a high bar for her young son when he is older. And Chris, the best orthopedic vet anywhere…crippled kitten, tiny puppy saved from a crippled life by some simple leg stretches and a pool….Chris is definitely not just a pretty face…
Dr Chris, Dr Lisa, and can’t think 🤔 of the other vet’s name, are very talented, creative, good listeners, and very caring. Thank vets for treating all the beautiful animals. We are glad they are on awesome road to recovery. The last one, be good to have follow up on how Joey is doing.
Horrible that vets were saying to euthanise the kitten with the twisted leg. I don't understand why they didn't test to rule out genetic issues before assuming the kitten was a lost cause. Even if they weren't able to save the leg, three legged cats get around completely fine, especially if it's been like that since kittenhood. Even on three legs, their quality of life is fine, so there's absolutely no reason a vet should want to euthanise the little one. I'm glad she was dedicated and refused to give up on the kitten. It's thanks to her that the kitten is alive and got the help needed to save the leg.
Because, while hind leg amputation is fine for an 8+ week old. Anesthesia on a newborn is a terrible risk with the risk of death, close to 70%. Waiting wouldn't work because the kitten would be at a disadvantage to her siblings for food and most people aren't equipped to handle a bottle baby. Regardless, most doctors wouldn't risk it, and those who would still offer euthanasia as a much less expensive option without pet insurance. It's rough, but not every veterinarian has the innovation or freedom to offer some of his solutions.
@@MegumiMoo The other vets could have at least offered to test if it was a genetic/unfixable thing, as Chris did, rather than just assume it was genetic and euthanise. It's entirely possible the baby was still able to nurse even with the bad leg (I've seen it before), and even if not, the vets still should have explained bottle feeding as an option until surgery could be performed and let the owner decide if she was dedicated to doing that. This isn't a rural area or a third-world country. There was no reason to jump straight to recommending euthanasia.
@@MegumiMoo1st of all, they wouldn’t have to do surgery yet. They could wait. Second, they didn’t even try. And third, would you rather immediately euthanize a kitten, or TRY to save it?? The vets were in the wrong, period. Nothing else to it.
As soon as I saw it, I thought of swimmers syndrome. The vets who thought there was no hope don't know cats. If Mama feeds and cares for a kitten there is hope. Cats are pragmatic, if there is no hope they will abandon a sick kitten so the others have a better chance of survival.
Absolutely incredible how Jersey showed improvement so quickly. And it's such a little cutie! Such a blessing that someone had the presence of mind to check the wallaby's pouch. Otherwise the lil Joey wouldn't have been alive. Gorgeous! We don't have native marsupials on my side of the world (an escaped albino wallaby has been wandering around the woods for a few months, but again, not native). We (I'm an ecologist) do thoroughly check the area if we find a female badger that's been hit by a car to make sure there isn't a sett nearby with babies in it. Seeing a dead animal on the side of the road looks awful, but we all do what we can to make sure the orphans are looked after. I'm kinda curious what happened to Joey and where he is today!
I love the story of Rex love him hope he is doing well. Poor baby why don’t let the veterans take their pet with them why are they separated when they come home? They really need each other. They’re both veterans and they really need each other. That’s not fair and the family. If the veteran is fallen, the family should be able to get the dog and keep the dog with them as part of their their dad or their mommethod they’re gonna take place and have an animal honored on four paws❤❤❤❤❤❤
I was born with both of my legs twisted and turned in. I was told that my knees were facing each other and my ankles were turned in and the only solution for that was to put my feet into shoes that had holes in the front and insert a metal bar an overtime they had to turn and over time there were things inside that would turn the bar and straighten out my legs and my knees over time and once it was time to walk I had to take physical therapy to learn how to walk normally but I was always kind of pigeon-toed where my feet would turn inwards and I would trip over my own toes and even after huge amounts of physical therapy when I'm tired or lazy my toes still turn inward I still trip over my own feet but at least my legs are straight
While it is not pretty to see a kitten with a twisted leg... its not a reason to put it down or even say its life threatening. It was probably said to make things more dramatic but if my Vet would tell me a twisted leg is a possible death sentence... what the f? If its really bad, it can be amputated. Okay, so I might be a bit of a smarty pants at times, but I would go back to the other vets that said put her down, and show them what failures they were.
