Skullz is currently in the process of doing it. He didn't start with Opiate but has really gotten deep into the overall album meanings and progression of them and has done a really good job imo. He started with Undertow and hasn't gone back to opiate although he might has he just finished AEnema 2 or 3 weeks ago and is in an interlude before starting Lateralus.
This, too, is one of my favorites. An example of a group of master level artists stepping back with an already amazing track and taking it to divine levels. I truly think that their live performance experience helped them to take it to the next level. That and Danny pursuing his middle eastern drum education. The learning never stops with these guys.
My favorite Tool song as well. Pity there was never a studio quality version of Pushit Salival, but I suppose that's what makes it all the more special.

Like you couldn't hold it back anymore, like suddenly seeing the truth, as the meaning of your life suddenly struck you as clear as the daylight. Really nice to see, music is all about emotions. When I listen to tool, tears sometimes just comes welling up, not of sadness, but because of the beauty of all emotions coming together and letting go of all restrictions in our life that is holding us back. After watching this a second time..lol I wanna say you will love reflection. Tablas in that one too and an all around fave of mine. I love the difference between the 2 songs. One is the anger at the end of a destructive relationship. The live is the healing, growing version. Where you look back and realize it was both their faults.
Definitely. The first couple times I listened to Lateralus way back when, Disposition, Reflection, and Triad were my least favorite tracks...I looked at them as filler tracks. The more I listened, on top of seeing them live three times on that tour, the holy trinity became my favorite part of the album. The whole album is top notch, but the holy trinity has become my daily medicine. The beauty of TOOL...the more you listen, the better it gets.
There is a lot that can be done in the studio, but we need to be reminded, this live. What Tool does in the studio they can do live because they use their instruments (vocals are an instrument) in intricate ways to build soundscapes that serve the art.

you are able to articulate the feelings that i get from tool's music a lot better than i can. its motivating at its core for me, but its really hard to describe why or what it is about it specifically. i just know that sometimes after i listen to tool, i am immediately in a better mood or head space. a lot of the times i don't even realize how much i needed to hear it until after i do. super stoked about your message at the end there... excited to see whats to come.
Danny trained very hard under Aloke Dutta on the tabla. He eventually let it loose on Right in Two! Danny has said it’s a beast learn and I totally believe it!
