    This is Karl Lagerfeld Paris, not the top of the line Karl Lagerfeld brand. It's basically the offshoot "cheaper" version for the more "affordable" price. It's basically the outlet brand. Not sure if the main line is much better though.

      Also worth noting that Karl sold off his brands to Tommy Hilfiger back in 2005 and stayed on as a creative advisor and designer until 2019, this would also explain the brands positioning towards more affordable price points as no brands under TH, including TH themselves, cater to a high end audience...

    Karl Lagerfeld bags are not really "luxury" anymore, if they have ever been before. I got a lamb leather purse more than 10 years ago, and all their leather were beautiful, felt luxurious to the touch. Since then, the prices dropped, and today the brand seems to produce a majority of fake leather bags, and the most expensive leather one is probably about 400€. Their clothes however are higher quality in terms of fabric, design, cut... and much more expensive than the bags😅

      I've seen the brand Karl Lagerfeld/KL having a boutique in a luxury mall and it stood side by side brands like Prada, Gucci, Ferragamo, Etro, Bvlgari etc. and the cheapest (in this context) then were probably MCM, Karl Lagerfeld, and Adrienne Vittadini (yes, she had a huge boutique at the entrance, no less. unbelievable). So technically, the KL brand was supposed to be a luxury brand then, albeit not at the top bracket (this was in the 90s).

    I worked at Neiman Marcus Last Call in the early 2,000s and his bags were nice leather. I still have some of his jackets and sweaters from the brand that I just adore. They are my favorite poor girl Chanels and I've had them forever! 🤭

    This is Karl Lagerfeld Paris which is a lower diffusion brand offshoot of Karl Lagerfeld which itself stood as a non-traditional diffusion line for Karl’s work at Fendi and Chanel. I’d be interested to see a dissection from a mainline Karl bag.

    As someone who has some familiarity with G-III Apparel, the bags from the brands mentioned in this video are either plastic or cheap leather in spite of the price tags. This applies even to Karl Lagerfeld in spite of G III owning two brands with his name (Karl Lagerfeld and Karl Lagerfeld Paris.)

    • @sheppybread

    People should stop assuming anything 😂 Karl Lagerfeld said that his brand was not supposed to be as good as Chanel and Fendi. He prioritized them. He created his brand just so he could sell affordable pieces under his name and profit from it.

    @theodord3710 Год назад +17

    The Karl Lagerfeld brand is just one of many brands that bear the name of legendary designers who have now been trashed for cash thanks to mainly G-III and Capri holdings. Until now I actually didn't know that all these brands (MK, Versace, K Lagerfeld, etc.) were all owned by the same 2 holding companies but they all seemed somewhat similar in terms of aesthetics and feel, in a very bad way... It's like the brands have lost the luxury feel/brand soul. Well, no wonder they do when they are all owned by the same holding companies, I now realize. Versace is definitely the brand that have survived the "holding curse" the best, thanks to the many defusion lines (I never thought I would say it, but it is better to make defusion lines than to destroy the mainline brand's soul). A prime example of a brand that has been completely ruined is MK, which at this point hasn't made a single original idea for years. Just look at their monogram "Eliza open tote"... It is a direct rip-off/rebrand of the LV Neverfull. Ain't it weird how it is ok to wear something that is basically a fake when the price tag is relatively high. At this point, I would categorize brands like MK to be worse than Shein and Wish, since Shein is cheap af and doesn't rip off their own costumers. Anyways that was my rant for today.

    • @theodord3710
      @theodord3710 Год назад +3

      Ohh and I wanted to add, that (I never thought I should say anything good about LVMH) but it is most definitely preferred for a brand to sell out to either LVMH or Kering than to G-III or Capri, since they actually let the brands be original and unique instead of turning a brand into a trend hopper, lookalike, "mall-luxury" brand.

  • @raphaellagdameo7811

    G-III doesn't OWN Tommy Hilfiger or Calvin Klein but the LICENSE to produce and sell clothing branded as such in certain markets to 3rd party sellers typically a department store. This is G-IIIs main business and is what they're doing to trash Karl Lagerfelds name and cache and the fashion history. They produce a mass generic designs of clothes, shoes, bags etc and then slap his or DKNY or Calvin or Tommy logos on them and with KL or DKNY what's worse is because they own them they can sell directly to consumers in stand alone brick and mortar shops. Typically an outlet mall or online. It's so sad that a man with such an impact on modern day fashion history's name has been sold off and turned into a generic Sans Serif logo and gimmicky cartoon logo.

    I had a tote bag from Karl Lagerfeld and in terms of dimensions, appearance, functionality, it was perfect, compared to anything similar from Coach, Michael Kors, Dooney Burke....but don't get it wet, the glue comes apart and the whole thing falls apart. It's too bad because his bag designs, especially with his cat applique and the lining using Karl's head in the fabric are unique. The man is the image and the brand. Quality?, there is no quality.

    I have some Karl pieces, saffiano leather, one laptop case and two wallets. They have lasted many many years, they still look new. I bought his items, because I felt Chanel is overpriced. I'm glad I haven't fallen into the money trap that is Chanel - and I'm a huge fan of this legend of fashion. He was philosophical and was never a snob, though he designed the richest clothes on the planet. He did a line for H&M and once said a simple farm girl has more chic than some of his clients. I enjoy my items that bear his name, there's no resale value in them, but that's okay, I'll never sell them. I'm just a happy fan of his prolific career.

    Q - please answer. I bought your “Rocky | Suede Rolltop Backpack” in blue and loved the bag but was EXTREMELY disappointed to see that the back straps were not fully made of leather. The underside of the backpack straps consisted of a plastic webbing material that does NOT equate to a $399 MSRP bag. You claim that you use only the best materials, yet plastic webbing on your shoulder is not comfortable and would be very embarrassing to have in front of friends.
    I returned the bag (at MY COST), even though there’s no mention of any other material on the description for the straps other than “top grain leather”.
    Your customer service is very rude and disrespectful. I’m not sure how you have such a beautiful backpack in your McHenry, that is cheaper and DOES have full leather straps, but not in the Rocky. I was told that the webbing was so the coloring of the leather would not wear off on my clothing, so please explain how that wouldn’t effect the straps on the McHenry?? Both are your backpack purses, yet one has subpar exterior materials at a higher price and the other has a full leather outside including the straps, but is cheaper. The McHenry definitely does have a cheaper material on the inside compared to the Rocky, but the straps are incredibly important when a person is looking to use a backpack daily. Your customer service lied to me about the reason for using webbing on the Rocky as the McHenry has no plastic webbing.
    I ALSO ordered a monogrammed men’s belt from you and it came with the embossing on the unfinished side of the belt.
    2 purchases - 2 unsatisfactory products. You fixed the belt issue by remaking it and sending it out after I took videos and sent a ton of pictures to prove your mistake; but you wouldn’t even cover return shipping on the bag that I was misled on.
    I thought you’d run your business a little bit better than the rest, but even though you shit talk other brands on RUclips, you take unwanted and unnecessary shortcuts, yet still ask premium prices for your products. The two do not work together. You can cut corners, but then you need to cut costs. Very disappointed customer. I thought I’d come back to see if you fixed the Rocky bag because I loved the blue color and the design but I’ll never own another bag that looks cheaply made; especially at a $400 price tag. LMK when you’re ready to make the Rocky into the bag it should be, please.
    *No grown adult would EVER carry a backpack purse with leather outside and plastic webbing inside on one of a purse backpack’s main features. It looks and feels cheap yet it’s far from cheap pricing.
    Also: I wrote a very detailed review about this and it never got published. I submitted it 3 times. I don’t think that’s a mistake. It’s very disappointing and unprofessional! I may try to send another review, let’s see if it gets published. Since there’s currently ZERO reviews on the blue Rocky, I don’t think it’s going to be.

    What many consumers don't realise is that Karl Lagerfeld the brand, and Karl Lagerfeld the designer, are completely different entities. Karl for one, hasn't designed for his own namesake label for years even prior to his death. It was simply licensed from him after a series of strategically poor business decisions to keep the brand sustainable. What promise it held in the late 80s and 90s no longer exists. The accessories are shoddily made and exorbitantly priced. The same can be said of bags from DKNY, Calvin Klein Jeans, Tommy Hilfiger, and Pierre Cardin.

  • @cloisterene
    @cloisterene Год назад

    The big designers have long been producing lower quality lines in order to greedily corner every market, and many people don't mind and are quite satisfied to get the *name* at an affordable price. But most infuriating is how they deliberately ruined small-time online sellers of *USED* merchandise found at thrift stores and garage sales, with the excuse that Their Products are of the Finest Quality and Workmanship -- so the person trying to get $10-20 profit each on cute vintage items is treated like a criminal, as if... Instead of going after the manufacturers of new 'knock-offs'. Because in reality they're producing their *own knock-offs* as well, and they hate any competition at all, even from the thousands of small-time sellers/pickers/finders just hoping to pay their rent and maybe buy a few groceries.

    I have a couple of items from this brand. Honestly I would say the items aren't even worth their mass market prices (it's not about Karl himself, but the company's strategy). A pair of boots, made of partial leather; a down jacket, with only 80% down and the shell is not water resistant as all; a wallet made of synthetics; a pair of jeans I can't comment much on its quality. Overall pretty disappointed and I hope the company would reconsider the brand's market position.

      They won't as long as consumers continue to buy it and today's consumers, at least majority of them, care only that the product is as cheap as possible.

    Sadly Karl Lagerfeld brand was never had very high quality products. I remember from 2008, you can feel the lack of quality even in those years.

    It bothers me that all these high end designers all use the same font and style for their logos. Plus their bags look similar to each other.

    I have been to the Karl Lagerfeld store.
    I don't think they even use leather on their leather products.
    3:12 WOW, even before knowing that the brand is now owned by the owners of Tommy Hilfiger... I was going say that the quality of the items they sell is at the Tommy Hilfiger level... High quality for clothes, yet nothing impressive when it comes to "leather" goods..... Just plastic leather.

    Um, y’all know that he died 4 years ago right? He was hands on, so can you still call it Karl lagerfeld. I will say, Karl Lagerfeld vs Karl Lagerfeld Paris is of better quality.

    I got a similar bag on sale off the official website. I did not like KL as a person due to his incredibly problematic views (especially on women), but I got the bag because I needed something for outings asap and thought that his brand would be at least OKish. While the bag is stylish the quality is not good and I will regift it to my pre-teen cousin. I was fooled by seeing his name. No more )))

    Maybe it's just me but this approach doesn't work for me. Years ago, when i was much poorer, i bought a bag from a certain designer. It felt apart after few wears but i still paid quite a lot of money for it, enough to buy a good bag from a lesser known/ unbranded producer. Now that I've got much more miney it doesn't cross my mind to buy from this designer, not even from their luxury or whatever line. If I see a crappy bag or whatever, i just don't buy anything from them. Your name is your brand and if you allow it to be put on crap then you do care for your products.
    If there need to be experts to tell if a bag is real or not despite difference in price in 1000s, then this is all i need to know.
    Now i just want to know who makes good quality products, I don't care about the brand.

    The quality is not there neither is a customer service. I had two bags. In one the leather in a chain strap broke off. Easy fix but still. The Agnes bag was a disaster.the lock kept opening in the new bag and finally it broke off within a year of moderate use. Leather held up not bad. But bag was unusable. No response from a company to have it fixed and no ability to buy a lock the same size to fix it myself. Now the bag needed up in my scrap pile to reuse it for something else. Junk

    Is that bag real or fake? LRL uses better imitation leather, there is no edge finish & those generic buttons look like the same ones they use on fakes from China.
    I got two Polène fakes from China, because Vestiare were selling tonnes of “vegan leather” bags (Polène uses full grain leather) just to see what the quality was like. They cost the same. The better quality one didn’t have the generic button & had better plating & sowing. The poor quality one looks like your Lagerfeld.
