  • Which wireless thermometer probe is the best overall pick? While all 3 of these units did the job, the Typhur Sync had the most features and functionality I look for in a quality wireless thermometer. What did you decide? Please share your thoughts on the comments below!

    Typhur by far is the most state of the art with bluetooth 5.4 which is why you got that range compared to the older 5.2 from the others. Nice review.

    Have you done any testing of the accuracy of the ambient temp sensors? To me that’s just as important as the internal temp accuracy. The built in sensor on my pellet smoker is not close to accurate so I rely on a secondary temp probe which is currently wired. Thanks for the review.

      Ah! You’re right. I can do that and pin the results in the comments. If it helps, and assuming the new MEATER does what the previous one could, all 3 have lasted over 20 hours before. This was tested over a 10 hour cook with brisket followed by the cool down and oven hold for another 10 hours.

    Awesome video... Do you take the the unit you picked everywhere? You do take your phone. So with the one you picked I'm assuming you carry both phone and standalone unit together? Meater on the app in your phone. I don't see your reasoning. Hands down Meater ...... Good info thou. Thanks.

    • @HuSmokin
      @HuSmokin  7 месяцев назад +3

      Hey Adan thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure I follow what you're saying about taking my phone everywhere though. Yes I do take my phone everywhere. With either the Meater, TempSpike or Typhur units, you'll want to keep the base close to your cooker/probes. Then the base unit will transmit the probe readings via bluetooth to your phone. The problem here is that bluetooth can only transmit so far, so depending on your home or competing signals, you'll have limited range to keep getting those readings on your phone. Personally, I can't get the Meater to stay connected via Bluetooth when I have my phone upstairs.
      Of the 3, only the Typhur Sync has WiFi built into the base. This means the probe sends data to the base unit, then the base unit connects to your home Wi-Fi into the Typhur servers... and this gives you the ability to monitor the cook from anywhere as long as you have data access from your phone. So when I'm roaming around the house, doing some yard work out front, and running to the store for a quick errand... I can continue monitoring my progress from the Typhur app.
      In regards to the standalone feature, again you're right in that I usually have my phone with me. But I can also be a little old school in that I don't want to be tethered to it all the time. I like how the Typhur and the TempSpike give me immediate readings from the display so when I'm multitasking in the kitchen and preparing a Christmas meal, I don't have to pull my phone out with my dirty hands, open the app, and wait for the data to refresh to see my temps. Instead, I can just look down at the base unit and that's it... done.
      Hopefully that clarifies why I continue to choose Typhur unit over the Meater.

      @@HuSmokincouldn’t have explained it better myself….I think they are both good but I definitely think your right, the typhur is the clear winner …..but the price I think scares people , but remember your getting two probes AND Wi-Fi capabilities with quick read Display…..that’s definitely something to take in consideration

    • @HuSmokin
      @HuSmokin  6 месяцев назад +1

      The sticker shock is very real, especially when you consider how many alternatives there are on the market. The Typhur definitely falls under the category of buy once cry once 👍🏼

  • @rickwischer1318
    @rickwischer1318 6 месяцев назад +1

    The only advantage I can see of the Meater over Typhur is the ambient temperature limit. That said, the Typhur upper limit 572℉. I can't think of anything I'd cook that's going that high.

    I picked up the Typhur Sync a month or so ago - have to save it works great - on the App - are you able to put a range of temps for the ambient temp (like you can do with the MEATER) so that it will notify you if your temp goes below or above that range ? Thank you

    • @HuSmokin
      @HuSmokin  6 месяцев назад +2

      Congrats! Glad you’re still enjoying yours.
      To answer your question, absolutely. From the app you’ll want to set up “alerts” by selecting the probe then press the bell icon toward the bottom right. Press the “+” icon and you’ll see options to set up ambient, internal, and general time alarms. If you’re using both probes, you’ll need to do this for each. Hope that helps!

    I own all 3, and I'll never buy Meater again. I've had 7 of their products, and they're consistently junk. I despise Tappeque, Fireboard, and Chef IQ fir the same reasons. I love my ThermoPro and Typhur. Thermoworks is king of wired setups, and I can't wait for Thermoworks and ThermoPro to release wifi wireless probes.
