Thanks Michelle for sharing this. I also have been making cards with old cereal etc cardboard and gluing them onto cards. However, yours are so much more professionally done! I love the idea of cutting at an angle, so that the cardboard isn't seen. Great tip with the double sided tape, also using the baking paper on top of the glued card for when weighted. I totally agree that kindness is the most important thing in this world🥰. I see that this is an old video done four years ago but is certainly a goody. Luckily, it came up as a suggested video for me. Thank again, Alison from Western Australia 💕
I am a card maker and crafter, who has been playing around with paint pouring, so I just love this idea. Am definitely going to try it. Thank you for the idea.
Love, love, love your humour as well as your talent topped with a generous spirit! Thank you so much for bringing fun, inspiration and joy into my life. Blessings.
Something I do with my scrapbooking is creat a cut out template, creating a window. I made it with the clear thick plastic cover from a display file and then I can move my window around on my photo to get the best part. You could then score a line on it as to where to cut. I think your cards are really lovely and I hope this makes sense
I love this idea! One of my best girlfriends makes amazing cards and this will be so fun for us to collaborate on! I headed right to the recycle bin after watching it and scored with a coffee pod box and some packaging from chocolates. I guess I must continue to eat those chocolates ... one must sometimes suffer for their art. haha!
This is just exactly what I needed! I won't go into detail, just let it suffice that this was a major discussion over the weekend! Wow. Unreal. Thanks so much!!!!!
Thank you for this video! I have not done acrylic skin cards, but have done similar type crafts. I found a thin, clear piece of acrylic to use as my cutting template. I could then see exactly what I was cutting, and the edges stayed strong. I don’t remember where I got the acrylic...it might have been a cover for a poster frame?
I made cards similar to this but was with encaustic wax. I never thought of using skins though thats brilliant. Will definitley do thay. Thanks again for another brilliant idea.
Writing this, not even finished watching. Great idea. Definitely going to do this. Thanks for another great idea. Just subscribed also. Look forward to checking out other videos.
Have you thought of using a piece of clear plastic (like some canvases are protected with) as your template? Then you could see exactly what is being selected.
Great question. I usually have messy hands and paint gets on the bottom of the cardboard which then sticks the card to the cooling rack I use to dry them on and this keeps them flat-ish, the back of them is not pretty though.
Great question, I purchase these from a local store and not on Amazon so would only be guessing which ones are similar. If you desire to buy on my Amazon link you can use any of the links and then go to the bags and it still counts as my link. Thank you Kathy!
Morning Michelle, I doing the compulsory tidy before work takes up some of my paint time, noticed that have ooodles of runoff’s! Brilliant idea to do cards ♦️ my 🥶 winter project sorted. None of my recent work has dried either weather ?. Anyhow good vibes sent your way. Karen NZ
Yes you can use any card stock that is strong enough to not warp badly when soaking wet. I would recommend not expecting to be able to use a card painted like this without attaching to a clean card as the card gets very messy on the back.
I don't know how well the glue on those labels would hold up to having wet paint on them for as long as paint pouring can take to dry. I have never used them before so am unable to guide you sorry.
These are left overs from other paintings and they are shown at the end of videos. I did do a live stream video a while ago where we did 19 pours in 2 hours all on cardboard here ruclips.net/video/DPFlENk4Oc8/видео.html
Wonderful instructions! And a good way to use run off paint. Yes, let’s keep this discussion about art and other fun stuff. I “missed” whatever drama arose, but I think it probably was okay I did. Love your always positive attitude. Let’s see what fun we can have!
I get them from my local emporium but here is a link to them on Amazon so you can see what you are looking for (make sure you get the correct size bag ) amzn.to/2WL5bJa
I don't see any reason for not using other coloured cardboard that is not printed on. I do not use the printed side so the ink doesn't leak through. I like the white as it looks clean on the videos.
You don’t seal the paint with varnish or ModPodge? This is a great idea...and you could also use the contact paper technique, eliminating the glue. Wonderful idea! ❣️. Thank you!
Oh Michelle! I am a papercrafter who was led by Tim Holtz last year this time, into acrylic pouring thru his alcohol inks. But you have just inspired me to the hilt! Brilliant idea. I have done pouring directly on to black medium weight chipboard and also some 110 lb. heavy cardstock because s piece was just sitting around. The results were nice enough to do something with. But what? Here's the answer. Although the chipboard would make a heavy card, it could be done. I thought of using the cardstock as a background for a card. But then I did not want to cover up the painting itself. Now I am thinking about trying to cut out a shape using a die and a cutting machine (Sizzix Big Shot or Crafter's Companion Gemini machines). As such, do a pour with reds, gold and white and cut out hearts for Valentines Day cards. I would have to experiment to see how the process would effect the painting. I also would use double sided sookwang or Scor-tape all around to instantly bond the painting into the card. I use 80-110 pound cardstock for my card bases (made with papercrafting tools) as this weight is very sturdy. But I am a card maker who now can combine an expertise of one passion with newbie experience in acrylic pouring, my nee passion. Thank you Michelle❤❤❤
They have usually had plenty of time to cure by the time I do them but as long as they are dry you should be fine unless you want to clean and seal them.
Hi Brenda, I am not sure what you mean by poster board. Some board doesn't stand up to being soaking wet very well so give it a go and see if it works for you.

Sorry for the delayed reply, I dry mine on a baking cooling rack and usually there is paint on the back of the cardboard which sticks it down to the rack, it does make a messy back but keeps it flat.
How do you deal with the silicone? If, as you mentioned in previous videos, even reused canvases need to be cleaned before repainting, that would indicate that the silicone is still there even on the drips/excess. Wouldn't that create oily residue on the envelopes?
I can't help but think you could benefit from using a rotary cutter, cutting may and clear acrylic ruler, ( like quilt makers use) to help cut your art for the cards
Michelle.... I have been making cabachons into necklaces and bracelets but I am not sure what price to put on them. Would please give me some direction on pricing? Thank you ☺️... you are such an inspiration!!!
My best advice is to ask the question "What should I price these at today?" I have sold my pendants at $30 NZD (approx $20 USD) and they sell quiet well. Make sure you label them as "unique handpainted" really clearly so people don't think they are cheap mass produced junk.

I just enjoy listening to you speak! 😀 I'm wondering with these skins for cards... do you clear spray or varnish them some way? Before you cut? After? Please keep on creating great inspiration! 🌺🌈🎨 ~ ArtOn ~
Thank you Angela :) I have sealed some and left some just paint. as a card they don't really require sealing as the paint is great as it is. If you seal then yes before adding to the card. Also allow it to breathe and get rid of any sealer smell before putting them in bags or they still stink when you take them out (learnt from doing).
Ooo! I forgot to give my hint! I use a paper cutter to trim for the correct size. Be careful, though, to make sure that the blade has not been dulled! After cutting, I mount onto card stock in a matching color. Once everything has dried, I laminate them for durability. You're welcome!
Hi Carrie yes I tried that once and the greating card warped massively as it dried and the back and inside got messy. Not fun or professional in my point of view.
Thanks so much for sharing :) :) :) love it.... can u share the link of the video where i can find the recipe lol like how much water, floetrol, paint etc :) thanks again

Hello. This is my first visit to your site. 😊
Fantastic..I paint on Yupo paper and attach it directly to the card stock but the cereal box is a lot less expensive!! 😁 Thanks Michelle!!
Yes exactly, it really depends where you put your paint to dry, you could use even use skins as long as you have the right glue :)
I love this! Yes, keep it kind ❤️
Thank you Erika :)
A lever paper trimmer works very well.
As long as it is sharp ;)
Thank you Cherie :)

Have you thought of using a piece of clear plastic (like some canvases are protected with) as your template? Then you could see exactly what is being selected.
Yes that is what I use now. This process has developed a bit since I made this video. Thank you for the suggestion.
How do you keep your cereal boxes, or whatever paper product you let the paint dry on, from warping?
Great question. I usually have messy hands and paint gets on the bottom of the cardboard which then sticks the card to the cooling rack I use to dry them on and this keeps them flat-ish, the back of them is not pretty though.
You just have to tell the pva to come out! lmao! Nice video Michelle! Love it that you recycle! Great idea....

The Christmas one you peeled off I would cut into a Christmas tree use a cookie cutter, then glue onto card.

Yes a great time filler. Not sure about your end of the country but it has been super muggy up here and I think that is contributing.
Can you scrape up the leftover paint and put directly on heavy card stock instead of cardboard? We don’t eat much cereal in our house😉
Yes you can use any card stock that is strong enough to not warp badly when soaking wet. I would recommend not expecting to be able to use a card painted like this without attaching to a clean card as the card gets very messy on the back.
Would this paint pouring work on self adhesive wine labels to make cards with?
I don't know how well the glue on those labels would hold up to having wet paint on them for as long as paint pouring can take to dry. I have never used them before so am unable to guide you sorry.
have u got a vid on how u did your pour on cardboard?

@@McEArt i ment wouldnt it go through and make it soggy
so gluing the skins directly to the card works as well?
Yes that would work as long as you have a glue that works on paint

How much fun can we have?
Hi Michelle. You mentioned a press in this video, what kind of press were you speaking about, like a tee shirt press?
Hi DeAnn no just a flat weight to hold them down flat while they dry if you use glue :)
@@McEArt thank you.
Do you use an adhesive to attach the actual skin to the cardstock
These are not straight skins, they are paint on cardboard so just double sided tape or pva glue works fine.
Thank you so much. I think it’s even better than a skin and no waste
Great thank you. Do you ever scan your originals before selling them off?
No they are usually one offs with no digital.
Where did you get the bags to put the cards in and what are they called ❤️
I get them from my local emporium but here is a link to them on Amazon so you can see what you are looking for (make sure you get the correct size bag ) amzn.to/2WL5bJa
Dollar Tree in USA
Do you find that the paint/moisture seeps through the cereal boxes when you pour on them?
Yes, I leave them to dry on a baking tray so they dry both sides.
@@McEArt OK thank you.
In the US, I have never seen the inside of a food box white, it's all like natural grey, any idea what else I could use?
I don't see any reason for not using other coloured cardboard that is not printed on. I do not use the printed side so the ink doesn't leak through. I like the white as it looks clean on the videos.
@@McEArt thanks for replying! I was thinking it wouldn't hurt to try!!😊

Thank you :)
Now I know what else I can do with my leftover skins! I'm wondering how well it would work on cardstock paper.
I am sure it would work great Danita :)
What kind of paper did you take off the paint from?. That is cool it sets then you can lift it off.
The Christmas pour was on what the Americans call freezer paper. It is plastic on onside and paper on the other.
You don’t seal the paint with varnish or ModPodge? This is a great idea...and you could also use the contact paper technique, eliminating the glue. Wonderful idea! ❣️. Thank you!
I don't seal them. Acrylic doesn't need sealing for applications of under 5 years
Oh Michelle!
Awesome thank you :) How much fun can you have now?
Di you seal the cards with anything after your finished?
No I don't. Acrylic paint doesn't really need sealing (thing house paint) unless you are planning for it to last years and be cleaned etc.
@@McEArt OK thanks McE
Do you have to let those cure like you would a painting?
They have usually had plenty of time to cure by the time I do them but as long as they are dry you should be fine unless you want to clean and seal them.
Love the cards. But if you don’t have cereal boxes can you use poster board? Thank you for your videos. Sorry you lost one.
Hi Brenda, I am not sure what you mean by poster board. Some board doesn't stand up to being soaking wet very well so give it a go and see if it works for you.
Does the skin stick to the clear bag?
No I have not had that problem unless you still have alot of oil on your skin.
Love your work. Will try my collection of skins on cards. I'm not good with glue so I use plastic rollers that apply 1/4 inch wide double stick tape, no peeling and they are refillable. I make cards with my photos and use these rollers around the edge and diagonally. They hold the photos well. The brand name is Ad Tech but others are available.
Awesome! Great idea Brenda :) Thanks for watching!
Make your template out of heavy clear plastic. That way you can see and compose the cutouts.
Great tip thank you :)
How do you keep the cardboard from warping while drying?
Have you laminated the cards before?
No I haven't. I will give I a try though
What size cards do you usually use?
These cards are 150mm x 105mm which is 6"x4"
@@McEArt perfect thanks McE!
I tried to do this with two different kinds of paper, vellum and tag board, and they both curled as they dried. How do you keep yours flat?
Sorry for the delayed reply, I dry mine on a baking cooling rack and usually there is paint on the back of the cardboard which sticks it down to the rack, it does make a messy back but keeps it flat.
Do you spray them with varnish or clear enamel before you cut them? Thank you !
I have done some like that but others I don't, They are not designed to be long term pieces of art and I sell them for $5 each.
How do you deal with the silicone? If, as you mentioned in previous videos, even reused canvases need to be cleaned before repainting, that would indicate that the silicone is still there even on the drips/excess. Wouldn't that create oily residue on the envelopes?
Yes it would but I keep the cards between kitchen towels to absorb large amounts silicone and the rest does not make residue marks on envelopes.
Do you have inside blank?
I can't help but think you could benefit from using a rotary cutter, cutting may and clear acrylic ruler, ( like quilt makers use) to help cut your art for the cards
Yes I agree! Great idea!
That sounds great, but many of the slicing tools actually tear the skins. I’ve had my best luck with an exacto knife and a metal ruler.
