Thank you for the terrific ideas! I have watched many acrylic paint pour videos & thought what a waste of excess paint that flows over, now I understand many artist reporpuse their paint skins! Thanks again for the awesome ideas, keep them coming please! Be well! 💜🙏💜
One more idea if you have skins that are too thin to really work with - you can pour a layer of matte or gloss medium over them and let it dry. It doesn't have to be a thick layer, and it could even be an acrylic varnish like Polycrylic. The idea is to add thickness and the medium or varnish will stick to the skins and remain clear (even the ones that look white, if they say clear gloss or clear satin, clear matte, they will become clear when they dry) while adding thickness to the skins. If the edges of the skins are too thin to peel easily, try a damp paper towel and rub gently along the edges until it starts to roll, and then peel it up.
I am glad I stopped by and watched your painted skins ideas video. I found it so interesting and you have given me some ideas for Christmas presents. I look forward to watching more videos. Great idea to use up small amounts of paint which may have been thrown away. Thank you xxxxxx
Great tutorial… Thanks for sharing! I am saving my skins but haven’t used for anything yet. But want to share that I use a large plastic tray, such as those used for dog kennels, and my skins peel out very easily after they dry.
Love the tutorial! You're so correct about the E6000, for the Gem necklaces. I bought some gems that magnify my skins and the glue enhance the effect making them more beautiful! You ROCK! Thank you :)
Your video is so clear and helpful. Some of the skins from my pours are much nicer than the finished project itself! So this is a great video and very much appreciated. THANK YOU!!!
Love it! Great idea especially the pendant. I'm a lapidary artist and make opal pendants and stones the same way. It's actually the dome shape of the cabachon or glass part on top that gives it the magnification effect I don't think it really has anything to do with the glue but yeah man thanks for sharing all that stuff :-) can't wait to make something!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have learned so much. I kept hearing about acrylic skins and how to use them and your suggestions were amazing. I'm getting ready to attempt my first pour, and it's so nice to know that all the leftover paint isn't going to be thrown out. I am now a new subscriber thank you again
Easier way to glue your skins to your cabochons: I use glossy accents on the back of the glass cabochon and sick it right on my skin. Leave to dry overnight then trim around the glass. Using glossy accents again, use a light coat on the bezel and insert your cabochon with acrylic skin attached into it and press down firmly. I found I could use the exact spot on my skin! I hope this helps.
Same here! I like to use the cabochon to select exactly what I want for the piece. One can easily trim away excess with scissors. I do not like E6000. I prefer to use Judikins. Cheaper, bette hold, quicker dry time, and easier clean up.
I started making the pendants after watching a video tutorial from Craft Fantastic. I also use their glaze and glue product to glue the cabochon to the skin. Love the preciseness of being able to pick the design. I love the other uses for the skins that you showed though! I'm going to dig into my picture frame box right now and use up some skins!
Thank you for sharing I'm new to the acrylic paint my sister cari Lybarger ham got me into pouring in January needless to say I now have another addiction lol this one has cost me way too much so I need to start using my skins and maybe make some cash.. will be waiting to see what else you do. Have a great weekend
Mister Sirius hahahaha those are all excellent suggestions! Of course I'd also recommend sealing the surface of your skins if you'll be decorating something that gets a lot of contact, and those are great ideas!
You've made what is called a doublet, in the jewelry world, if you're intrested. It's where they take chips, shavings or slices off of good gems such as turquoise or opal that they have glued together in a turq and earth colored resins; a complimentary iridescent for opal) and they do exactly the same thing that you've just done; sometimes the top cabuchon maybe faceted in some sort of checkerboard or other pattern and it will be white (actually clear) topaz or zircon or some such. Actually with opal it is called a triplet if you place a cabochon on top. An opal doublet actually has black background and clear resin/opal combo slice glued together and its flat.
Hey punch and LP (large old vinyl recording played on a phonograph- I don't know how old you are or some of your Comment readers) sized hole in Bookmarks and run pretty ribbon or fringes through it , pretty colored yarn tassels like on a scarf or pretty tassels that you buy that look like golden ropes and such ; silver ones too.
Have you considered UV resin for your rubix cubes? As you're only doing a very thin layer it would take 30s to cure under a UV/LED lamp (if that). Same protection for your skins but doesn't take long to cure.
You could actually just leave the paper backing on, if you used waxed paper or parchment paper instead of freezer paper. Both of those are more likely to stick firmly to the paint skins. But once you glue it in, no one can see it anyway.
Yay! Welcome back! :) These are great! I don't know how well this would work, but for the dishes, if you made the skins with acrylic enamel, I think Modge Podge has a dishwasher safe (top rack) sealer/glue, you just need to let it cure for about a month before using. The enamels can stand up to the heat of the dishwasher enough to be top-rack safe, I've used just them on glasses and had good results after baking them on.
Sweet! take video, lol. I was thinking about trying it, too. You know, you could also do a pour painting with enamel on the mug or something glass, then bake it on - ceramic should be able to stand anything a wine glass can. From what I remember, once it dries, you put it in a cool/cold oven, let the temp come up to 350 degrees F, bake for 30ish minutes, then turn oven off with the piece still in it, and let it all cool down on its own. At least one glass I did this on still looks like it did when I made it about 6 years ago, and has been washed several times.
cabochon, French, from caboche meaning head. Cabochon is the diminutive form so it means little head. Pronounced cabbuh-shon in English and not too different in French. Brooch; Also French, but upwards of the Rio Grande, America: it's said broach , as in "bring up the subject", same sound as in coach in English. If you want to play French, it's like getting a loogie up in your throat-you know what your throat and the way back of your tongue does to get it there? Now say brgroashe. Or amongst your average North American just say bro+shh. Br(oe)sh like roe/fish eggs, said row. Still like coach. Don'tcha just love dipthongs?
You could finish out that Mason jar lid by putting some clear resin on it put the torch to it to get air bubbles out. In effect you've made a jewelry lid just like the pendants or rings or earrings, if you make also (ladies always like at least 2 matching jewelry pcs, sometimes 3, if they are very old). If you don't make a range in night think about it there are a lot of ladies that wear ear rings that won't wear necklaces or rings. Guys might only like the necklace or a ring but some my like matching eairings? These days, maybe a pair of guys might like one earring each that matches their partner's.
Love your use of skins! I'm a newcomer who makes polymer clay jewelry, but when I "discovered" acrylic pour painting, I was hooked. Due to a lack of funds to invest in large projects, I got interested in making skins. Question: where did you find those acrylic pendant toppers? I've searched some of the big jewelry supply sites, but either they don't carry them or I don't know what they're called. Thank you for sharing your fabulous techniques! Linda
Unfortunately the seller I'd bought from on etsy is no longer available, but you can search for "square/circle/oval pendant blanks" and "glass cabochon" to find results you can use
I know this is old and you may have already found a solution, but you can search Amazon for bezels. They have several sets that include both the bezel and the matching cabochon.
Hi Karen! I use glass because they magnify the paint underneath and they're more durable. I bought mine on etsy, there are some links on this video description! :)
Probably not, as it's not water-repellent like wax paper. it might work if it has a wax or plastic surface. if you drip water on it and it begins to warp, it won't work for this purpose
You can just glue the skins on, but it will likely be difficult to keep the design uniform due to folds and creases around the shape. I'm at a loss to think of a good way to smoothly apply a skin over a round object
Hi Jackie! I've listed the supplies in the description of the video to help make it easier to find. Let me know if there are specific things you want to find!
Parchment paper may not have enough surface resistance to let you peel the paint off afterwards. Wax paper is nonporous and can be used, but it might leave your paint skins with wrinkles. Freezer paper has plastic on top, which is perfect for this!

That's a great tip! There've definitely been some thin skins that I haven't wanted to toss, thanks for the advice!
Brilliant tips Martha, thank you.
Fantastic! I live the reuse, repurpose, recycle. I use to be a crow, too. Thank you for your great ideas.

I use a silicone mat under my canvas, protects the table and peels right up!
I was looking for pour vids that featured just 2 or 3 colors and here it is! 🤩
Awesome Rubiks cube!
when I first discovered the acrylic pour art I always wondered what they did with all that run off.......luv luv luv this!!
Thank you I love your channel. Since my pour paintings are usually disasters I can make use of the skins!
Oh and that tip about E600 between the skin and the cobochon, thumbs up.
What an excellent video. Your personality and teaching method are terrific. Thank you!
Excellent work and presentation.

I just learned about acrylic skins, I’m excited to be able to use the leftover paints!!! So many ideas....where to start??!!??!
thank you for teaching these ideas to everyone to see!
These are amazing. I want to try but dang it’s intimidating, well done 👍🏽I like the laptop cover, fashionable and practical!
Lol... " maybe I was a crow in a past life or something." I love how your mind works. great video.

Great video, very interesting. Thank you for sharing 😊
Hello and 1st time watching your video! Loved your tips and it's so refreshing hearing your voice!

Same here! I like to use the cabochon to select exactly what I want for the piece. One can easily trim away excess with scissors.
I do not like E6000. I prefer to use Judikins. Cheaper, bette hold, quicker dry time, and easier clean up.
Thanks for the tip! I'll have to get some Judikins and try it out!

Very cool. I really love the pendant. :-)
Great Ideas
BEAUTIFUL
Lamp shades come to mind. Knife blades for display. Electric guitars and other musical instruments. And for skins your not to fond of, toilet seats.
Mister Sirius hahahaha those are all excellent suggestions! Of course I'd also recommend sealing the surface of your skins if you'll be decorating something that gets a lot of contact, and those are great ideas!
@@SouffleArt i made some lil mushrooms and they make great covering things like coffee jars n boxes
Fantastic video, thank you for some great ideas! Subscribed.

Ah, the Rubik's cube was great.
Car-Bah-Shawn >grin< This was BRILLIANT. Thank you so much!
Thanks for the great ideas I was wondering what they could be used for.
Love your teaching
Thank you
Cool video thanks for posting. Sometimes I let the runoff flow directly onto watercolour paper when it drys it makes great book mqrks and cards.
Thanks for all your information! I hope I can buy all the things I need in the Netherlands.......😉

There was a great jaguar (or some cat) image in the black and white skin. It's eye got put in the photo frame.
I JUST DID SOME PENDANTS THIS YEAR FROM MY RECYCLED SKINS FROM MY POURING ART...P.pEOPLE LOVE IT....:)
TY. I just ordered a silicone mat to catch my paint drippings.
Fantastic!
Thanks. Great ideas!
love your ideas .. but when cutting out for the picture frame if you use the glass instead of the backing you could see just what will be in the frame
Love it! That's a great tip Cheryl!
Suggestions on how to store skins? I have so many but want large colorful collection before I started using them. Helps with creativity😁
You can store them with a layer of wax paper in between so they don't stick
Have you considered UV resin for your rubix cubes? As you're only doing a very thin layer it would take 30s to cure under a UV/LED lamp (if that). Same protection for your skins but doesn't take long to cure.
The acrylic skin looks kinda like the painting "starry starry night" by Vincent van Gogh
This was a great video what did you add to your paint to make it pour and what was the ratio?
You could actually just leave the paper backing on, if you used waxed paper or parchment paper instead of freezer paper. Both of those are more likely to stick firmly to the paint skins. But once you glue it in, no one can see it anyway.
That's great information Martha, thanks! Maybe I can experiment and come up with another video using that adherence method and some new uses

enjoyed your video.. where did you get the circle cutter gizmo ? .. now, i gotta have one too
Thanks Anna! The circle punch is a 3/4" circle punch by Recollections brand, I bought mine right inside the local Michaels

Beautiful thx
Good video. Thanks.
lay the glass down to cut around, that way you can see exactly the cells, etc that you are cutting for your project.
hey! where can I get that adjustable circle cutter? didn't see it listed
Most craft stores should have those in the scrapbooking section, if I remember correctly.
Love your use of skins! I'm a newcomer who makes polymer clay jewelry, but when I "discovered" acrylic pour painting, I was hooked. I have concaved some copper disc. How would I apply an acrylics skin to fit?
Great question, you could try warming the acrylic slightly as you apply it to help it stretch and fit the shape as one example. good luck!
Where did you get your silicone mat from?
I bought it off ebay or amazon years ago
Can you do skin cutout and and them over top an acrylic pour as an embellishments
Sure thing, you could secure it with some super glue or especially if you coat the whole thing with resin when you're done
What paper did you use , to put your skins on sorry I didn’t quite get what you said.thank you
wax paper, needs to be non-porous
Did you use UV resin on the Rubic's Cube or regular resin?
Yes, I used non-yellowing, self-leveling, UV-resistant resin
Hi just found your channel. Thanks for sharing your ideas. Do you know if I can laminate the book marks?
Sorry, I just went further in your video and found that I can laminate.
Yes, just be sure to use a low heat setting to keep the paint from melting and burning!
What are best? Glass,, plastic or resin cabochons and where do you gt them?
Hi Karen! I use glass because they magnify the paint underneath and they're more durable. I bought mine on etsy, there are some links on this video description! :)
Would parchment paper work too?
Probably not, as it's not water-repellent like wax paper. it might work if it has a wax or plastic surface. if you drip water on it and it begins to warp, it won't work for this purpose
Awesome video! And where did you buy the knife?
Thanks! The x-acto knife should be sold by most hobby or art stores
Is there some way to cover small stones with skins?
You can just glue the skins on, but it will likely be difficult to keep the design uniform due to folds and creases around the shape. I'm at a loss to think of a good way to smoothly apply a skin over a round object
I glue the cabchon to the skin then cut it out
You should try UV resin.
Have you applied small squares of skins on to ornaments yet?
I haven't myself, but I know others have done so successfully
One can make an acrylic skin on any non-absorbent surface.
suggestion, try pen blades
The glue is E6000, not 600 just saying. I did enjoy the video and projects.
Where do get supply
Hi Jackie! I've listed the supplies in the description of the video to help make it easier to find. Let me know if there are specific things you want to find!
Is freezer paper the same as parchment paper?
Parchment paper may not have enough surface resistance to let you peel the paint off afterwards. Wax paper is nonporous and can be used, but it might leave your paint skins with wrinkles. Freezer paper has plastic on top, which is perfect for this!
Can you do this with oil paint?
You could probably remove oil paint from a nonporous surface very carefully, but it would not be anywhere as stable and durable as acrylic skins
@@SouffleArt thank you 🙂
Great ideas! What brand are you oval and circle stamp cutters?
lamarcheelaine thanks! The oval cutter is from AnnieHowes and the circle cutter is Recollections brand.
Souffle Art Thank you 😄
