Dr. Brown and Nadir Ahmed discuss the meaning of "a prophet like Moses" in Deuteronomy 18

For all those asking why I would dialogue with Nadir, given his poor reputation, the answer is that I had no idea who I'd be talking with until a few minutes before we started to record (I didn't even think of asking for the person's name, since my team had been dealing with the Mercy4Mankind organization, who reached out to us). So, it was literally a few minutes before we started when I asked my staff for the person's name, found it was Nadir, and searched online, only to find this: www.answering-islam.org/Responses/NA/index.htm. Had I been aware, I would have requested the organization provide someone else to dialogue with me. That being said, the truth of Scripture shines forth all the more clearly in light of this video.
Additional note (added April 9, 2020): Over the last 12 hours, we have learned of a series of deceptions from Nadir, directly to our own ministry, because of which I will not have a follow-up debate with him, nor will he be allowed to comment here. However, I look forward to having a serious debate on this subject with a serious Islamic apologist in the future, God willing.

I have never seen a Muslim debater who is honest, but Nadir Ahmed is the biggest liar I’ve ever seen. He intentionally misrepresents the text and his opponent, and you can tell he is not open to hearing the other side and learning. He says he doesn’t want to misrepresent the Bible but that’s exactly what he does intentionally. And he claims things and thinks his mere claim proves itself, and declares himself the winner. Then he slanders his opponent.

      @syedosama4265 4 года назад

I will answer to this point that you just COPIED FROM anti Islamic source and quoted here blindly out of HATRED AND PREJUDICE!
As Thomas Carlyle rightly said, "..The Christians have been TRAINED TO HATE MOHAMMAD (PBUH)..."
Firstly, the verse you provided and the Hadeeth you provided from Bukhaari speak of TWO DIFFERENT VEINS or ARTERIES when looking at the Arabic text (the Qur’aan uses “AL-WATEEN” while the Hadeeth uses “AL-ABHAR”).
      This ALONE DISPROVES THE CLAIM.
However, why allow an opportunity to completely obliterate this claim to END IN SMOKE?
Now if we are to understand the verses you have provided correctly, they ACTUALLY REINFORCE THE TRUTHFULNESS of PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH) as found in numerous other verses:
“By the star when it descends, Your companion has not strayed, nor has he erred, Nor does he speak from [his own] desires, It is not but a revelation revealed” (Qur’aan /An-Najm 53:1-4)
“Indeed Allah shall fulfill the true vision which He showed to His Messenger in very truth…” (Qur’aan / Al-Fath 48:27)
“Truly, you are one of the messengers” (Qur’aan / Yaa-Seen36:3)
“Nay! he has COME WITH THE TRUTH and he confirms the messengers.”(Qur’aan / As-Saf'faat
      37:37)
Furthermore with regard to this verse:
"AND THEN CERTAINLY SHOULD HAVE CUT OFF HIS LIFE ARTERY (AORTA)"
This is to be understood (according to both tafsir ibn Katheer and Tabari) that ifanything/any part was false or forged, it would have been a swift punishment oroccurrence of having the aorta cut, which would cause instant death. It would not be
delayed until after the message had been completely delivered, and in this case, perfected as Allah later revealed in the Qur’aan:
“This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and
have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” (Qur’aan / Al-Maa’idah 5:3)
Allah DID NOT CUT THE AORTA of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), plain and simple andthe Prophet (PBUH) DID NOT have his aorta cut!
And a few fitting return questions to you then would be:
1). why would Allah Send Blessings on a false Prophet?
“Allah sends His Graces and Blessings on the prophet …” (Qur’aan / Al-Ahzaab 33:56)
      2) why would Allah say that Muhammad (PBUH) is surely a messenger and IS TRUE,if he was false?
“These are the Verses of Allah, We recite them to you in truth, and surely, you are oneof the messengers.”(Qur’aan / Al-Baqarah 2:252)
“How shall Allah guide a people who disbelieved after their belief and after they bore witness that the messenger IS TRUE and after clear proofs had come unto them? AndAllah guides not the people who are wrong-doers.” (Qur’aan / Aal-’Imraan 3:86)
“O humankind! Verily, there has come to you the messenger with the truth from your Lord, so believe in him, it is better for you. But if you disbelieve, then certainly to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth. And Allah is Ever All Knowing, All
      Wise.” (Qur’aan / An-Nisaa 4:170)
3). Why would Allah Command the believers to OBEY THE MESSENGER numerous times throughout the Qur’aan if he was false?
      3:32 / 3:132 / 4:42 / 4:59 / 4:69 / 4:80 / 5:92 / 24:54 / 24:56 etc.
Finally, it should also be mentioned that the statement uttered by the Prophet (PBUH) about his aorta being cut WAS A COMMON IDIOM used by Arabs in that time when referring to death in any form and IS NOT NECESSARILY TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY!
If you wanna understand Islam, rather than going to ANTI-ISLAMIC websites,to understand Islam, read the Qur'an rather than taking things blindly and posting in the group out of prejudice!
If you're a truth seeker, you'll get hidayah/guidance as Jesus Christ PBUH said, "SEEK YE THE TRUTH AND THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE." John 8:32

Funny argumentation. First of all, the Quran and the Hadith doesnt talk about two different arteries, but uses two different words (synonymes) for the same arterie. Thars why they get translated both i the same way to the english by the muslim translators.
Furthermore: it doesnt matter how many times the false Prophet said he is truthful in the Quran. He was a false prophet and the Quran a fabrication.
What matters is that the real God, the God of the Bible, let the false Prophet die in a ironic way, just as He did it with the false Prophets in the Book of Jeremiah.
And stop cherry-picking a verse from the Gospel of john out of context to make an argument. Your false Prophet is in complete contradiction with the Gospel of John (and every other Book in the Bible).

Paul was a liar and self appointed false apostle. He wrote the book Galatians. So do not believe in the book of Galatians.
Paul himself said that you don't have to keep and practice the laws and commandments of the Bible. Paul said the laws have already been abolished and Christians are no longer under the law. You are free from the law. Look at the following verses in the Bible from Paul :
Philippians 3:5-8 "…....in regard to the law,...... righteousness based on the law,.......I consider them garbage."
According to Paul, all the laws and commandments of the Bible are garbage.
Colossians 2:14-15 "......having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us;........, nailing it to the cross."
That means all laws are nailed to the cross and you don't have to follow the laws anymore.
      Hebrews 6:1:
Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
According to Paul you should not repent for your sins by following the laws and commandments from the bible in other words, from dead works. Leaving the principles of the doctrine of Jesus, in other words leaving the laws and commandments of the bible which were the teachings of Jesus.
      Romans 5:20:
The law was brought in so that the trespass (sin) might increase.
      Romans 7:13:
The law makes you sinful beyond measure.
      Romans 10:4:
For Christ is the end of the law.
      Galatians 3:13:
The law was a curse that Christ redeemed us from by becoming a curse.
      Ephesians 2:15:
Christ has abolished the law which was a wall of hostility.
      Romans 6:14:
For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law.
So according to Paul, Christians are not under the law because Jesus has abolished the law and redeemed you from the curse of the law by becoming a curse. Look, Paul even called Jesus a curse. So Paul was preaching and teaching that you don't have to keep and practice the laws and commandments of the bible anymore which is totally against the laws of the old testament.
Even if someone was not fully persuasive to his own gospel which goes directly against the Jewish laws of the old testament, he had a simple response: his gospel was only true gospel. In Galatians 1:8 Paul said that even if Paul himself, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what Paul has preached to you, let him be accursed.
But when Paul was arrested and stands on the trial, he always lied so that he can make a way to get rid of the trial. We can see his lies in the following verses:
      Acts 25:8:
Then Paul made his defense: “I have done nothing wrong against the Jewish law or against the temple or against Caesar.”
      Acts 24:13-14:
13 And they cannot prove to you the charges they are now making against me. 14 However, I admit that I worship the God of our ancestors as a follower of the Way, which they call a sect (Judaism). I believe everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets,
      Acts 26:20-21:
20 …… I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds. 21 That is why some Jews seized me in the temple courts and tried to kill me.
      Acts 28:17:
Three days later he called together the local Jewish leaders. When they had assembled, Paul said to them: “My brothers, although I have done nothing against our people or against the customs of our ancestors, I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Romans.
Again to persuade people that Paul’s gospel was true, Paul always resorted to swearing that he was not lying. But this only proves one thing that he was in fact lying. Look at the verses of Paul in the following:
      2 Corinthians 11:31:
The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who is to be praised forever, knows that I am not lying.
      Galatians 1:20:
I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie.
      1 Timothy 2:7 (nkjv):
for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle, I am speaking the truth in Christ and not lying, a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
      Romans 9:1 (nkjv):
I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit,
So what compelled Paul to swear that he was not lying. An honest person will never swear in telling the truth. But a liar will always swear in self-defence that he was not lying.
But Jesus expressly cautions against this in the Bible in Matthew 5:34-37 (nkjv): “34 But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35 nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; ………..37 But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.”
So according to Jesus the evil one is Paul. Because Paul always resorted to swearing that he was not lying. But in fact, Paul was lying.
Paul teaches you that you don't have to keep and practice the laws and commandments of the Bible anymore. But Jesus said that whosoever teaches you that you should not keep and practice the laws and commandments, that person and who follows that person's teachings will be in hell fire. It is clearly mentioned by Jesus in the Bible in Matthew 5:19-20:
"19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven."
Paul teaches you that you will be saved only by faith in the blood sacrifice of Jesus. But this teaching is totally false and deceptive. Because James the brother of Jesus told in the Bible in James 2:14-26:-
"14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. ………..18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe-and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?............24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only……….26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."
Look in James 2:19, James further argues against Paul's doctrine by saying that the “demons believe” in God and tremble. But in spite of their believe, they are not saved. James also states that works are necessary to add to mental assent to make faith complete.

+Jim Nadir Ahmed has been debating for 20 years, his arguments are standard of any muslim debater. He used to have a website even 20 years ago called examinethetruth. Watch videos from speakers corner you'll see they are all rather like him. Very poor arguments, very combative. One of the tricks he likes to do is not give a reference , or give a chapter and not give a verse, so the person listening has to find the verse. See Nadir Ahmed vs. David Wood (2 of 3): "Does Islam Promote Violence Towards Non-Muslims?" ruclips.net/video/QUZ4IfTWZR4/видео.html Watch at 30min in Nadir quotes a source refusing to say the source in order to try to show his opponent is ignorant of islammic sources. His plan totally backfired because Nadir then stated where he was quoting from Ibn Ishaq. Normally when a Christian quoted from Ibn Ishaq, the muslim complains that they have to quote from Quran or Sahih Hadith. only. What Nadir had done was given the green light to David Wood to quote from Ibn Ishaq. But not only that, David showed the context of what Nadir quoted.. . David showed the unbelievably horrific violence of mohammed from Ibn Ishaq where Nadir had picked his quote from about mohammed getting people to chop peoples' noses off. Nadir was epicly crushed. Also what you see in that debate, a youtuber comments on part 3(a QnA), "Nadir reminds me of the knight in a Monty Python sketch who'd repeatedly lose a limb from his body during a sword fight, all the while declaring nothing happened. I can imagine Nadir's head on the ground still yelling "You've lost David Wood! I won this debate! C'mon I'll head-butt you....you Christian loser...you!"" And on part 2 a youtuber comments "Nadir's strategy is the same strategy he used against R. Spencer. He would go "tell me what's my reference, you see you dont know you're ignorant blah blah""
Watch David quote from the Sira, Ibn Ishaq, 46min into part 2. And by the way in this debate Nadir mentioned the sira too. David Wood quoted ibn ishaq where mohammed had people chopping off noses and ears. One of Mohammed's soldiers descriebs that they did that.

First of all, Jesus conquered sin, death and satan.
He conquered our sin, and our death.
Second of all, as plainly written long before Mohammed, Jesus is prophesied that He is going to come back to earth, as the conquering warrior and slay the wicked. Blood will be up to the horses bridal.

My interpretation of Nadir's knowledge of Scripture and even his own religious writings is zero. His representation of Islam was not only comical, but pathetic. I almost felt sorry for the man, but my pity is more for his spiritual demise as he continues to adhere to the false teachings of Islam. "Let God be true and every man a lier' the Scripture interprets itself indeed. You did a great job! Can't wait for God to use your to shed more light if the debate takes place. Prayers!

I saw this on "Islam Critiqued" previously, just had to say this on the source channel.God bless you Dr. Brown, for standing your ground, and defending the truth, with honour and integrity.
O, my... so many things went wrong on so many levels.
The topic is "Muhammad in Deuteronomy 18". Nadir Ahmed states: "I had a series of questions. The matter of 'brethren' was not even among them". Why did he actually wanted to involve into a discussion? Context is conditio sine qua non of an honest investigation of this kind of textual issues.
Dr. Brown: This SPECIFIC PHRASE in the Hebrew language, in this specific context, "from your brothers", "from your own midst" always signifies Israelites, and cannot mean anything else. It could never refer to Muhammad. Over and over and over...
Nadir Ahmed: See, the WORD /ach/ "brother" (in Hebrew) in Genesis means brother ... Over and over and over again, like a broken record.
And then, when pressed against the wall, tries to slip his way out, like an eel, with deception, "Ok, let's agree to disagree", "Give me my three minutes", "Let's not interrupt each other" (although nobody interrupted him)
OK, I volunteer to feel the deepest shame instead of Nadir Ahmed if he didn't feel it that way, which he should, if he had even a grain of integrity and honour.
Thanks, Dr Brown, for scholarly knowledge, intellectual honesty, grace and patience beyond belief. Thanks, Nadir Ahmed, for quoting "Time" magazine and "Google". That's a valuable contribution to theology, history, literature and philosophy academic studies. I would've preferred if you had added "Wikipedia" and "Cosmopolitan" or "Vogue", but, one don''t get everything he desires, so I'll be satisfied with what I have.

    1. Brown said it is impossible because in Deut it was used only for Israelites. Even if that is true they were only Israelites during the Exodus so you'd expect it to have been used to refer to Israelites however isn't there a chance the Exodus also include Egyptians who converted to the religion and became known as Israelites? Does Brown deny that Israelites can be from among different ethnic groups and convert into the nation and be known as an Israelite?
He also says show me one place in the Bible where "from your brothers" must be referring to outside of Israel as if this matters when the general usage of the word brethren you admit can be in reference to any "brother". Will Brown now says any usage of "X Y Z brother" can not be used to refer to A B C group of people because we see nowhere in your Bible that such terminology is used for them?
Will Brown not comment on how the verse does not use anything as explicit as "from among you" which would settle the matter?
    2. Brown said it can not be Muhammad (saw) because it talks of this prophet having signs wonders and miracles as if to deny the authentic Islamic teachings which show Muhammad (saw) did exactly that.
And when Nadir mentioned he got wrong information he did not respond to this although he tried to brush aside hadith since does not work.
    3. Brown says this prophet was doing his mission in the name of YHWH. But wait a minute? Isn't the name YHWH lost? As in its pronunciation is lost and secondly wherein the NT do we see Jesus (as) call God YHWH? The general understanding is YHWH refers to one that is Ever-Living and one of the names of Allah is... Al-Hay which means exactly that and sounds like YHWH in some way. So Brown needs to hold to the same standard when he says show where Muhammad (saw) prophecies in YHWH's name
    .
    4. Brown says the Jews expected it to be referring to one of them. Which may be true for the most part but this doesn't explain those which did not which the Qur'an talks about and which the Qur'an says they knew Muhammad (saw) was the one they have mentioned in the Torah which is why they were in that region Yathrib in the first place awaiting for this said prophet.

    5.
Since that criterion which Brown uses in Deut 34 backfires on him especially the one about YHWH of all things, let us look at Deut 18:16-17 which tells us one of the reasons why this Prophet will be sent following the complaints of the people: -"For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.”
Which rules out Trinitarian Christianity since Jesus in no way in your belief can not be taken as anything other than the VOICE of God if he is God Himself. Now you can say the Qur'an is the Words of God but this is not being spoken by God in being during its revelation. And I admit this 5th point is not as strong as the other objections I have but I can show if we go down this route of looking at things in such an approach Brown does, we can surely find things which can embarrass him. Like maybe we can be obtuse and use Deut 34:10 as proof there was never a prophet since in Israel who was like Moses and so this is proof that it would be from among their brethren. Now Nadir also made a point, he says the Jews thought the prophet being referred to here is Jeremiah although the above verse shows problems with that view. I say that if we take the "Jewish view" as a criterion in things, not only then do we reject this verse a.) applying to Jesus but b.) Brown would need to retract his statement that Muhammad (saw) was more like Joshua as his criterion the Jews saw Moses like Joshua even though he took parts in war (as if Moses did not according to Brown).
    6. Brown said Moses did not take the Holy Land due to the sin of the people as if this was a good point. Does Brown not know Muhammad (saw) prophecised his nation will take 'the Holy Land' and this exactly happened after he passed away which is the same case in the sense that Moses passed away before he saw his nation take the Holy Land.
    7. Brown keeps on reiterating this point about this prophet knowing God "face to face" as if he rules out the Miraj which is referred to in the Qur'an and in more detail in the hadith. Where in the NT does Jesus (as) know God "face to face" like even Moses (as) Did?
    8. The "heavenly father" thing is YOUR ONLY strong point but we will reject this based on this being an only NT thing. And we put down the word "father" in the OT to mean anything but a literal father based on Mal 1:6.
