Jay Smith vs. Nadir Ahmed - Scientific Miracles in the Quran

  • Jay was asked by the Trinity Channel to do a debate for them on Thursday evening, February 21st on the topic: 'Scientific Miracles in the Qur'an'. He was to oppose Nadir Ahmed, a well-known Muslim debater, who has created videos on this very subject as far back as 2008.
It turned out to be a rather simple if not entertaining debate, though Jay was somewhat disappointed that Nadir wasn't a better opponent, as he wasted most of his time attempting to move the debate away from the scientific problems in the Qur'an and onto the Bible, particularly harping incessantly on the parable of the Mustard seed, which he considered was a scientific error.
Jay was a little surprised that the moderator, someone whose position is to moderate and take a neutral stance, instead entered into the debate himself, taking equal time with Jay on the Christian side. Some have assumed justifiably that this may have looked like 'ganging up on poor Nadir'. Nonetheless, Eddie, the moderator did a slap-up job, particularly as an expert on the Arabic words and phrases in the Qur'an, as its his native tongue.
We encourage you to watch the entire debate, as you will see that there are a myriad of scientific claims Muslims make for their Qur'an, which are nothing more than mere observations, or borrowings from other sources. This point came out clearly in this debate, coupled with a few scientific errors, despite Nadir's remonstrations to the contrary.
This area of research is new to Jay, and the first time he has even debated it with a Muslim. Due to the popularity of the subject in the Islamic world Jay has decided to create an entire series on this subject for Pfanderfilms!
So, enjoy the debate, and 'hold this space'

Have to say, I can understand Nadir's frustration with the debate moderation. The moderator became a participant and we had constant interruptions for callers. At any given point Nadir have several points backed up that he had to respond to from 3 different sources. And yes, sticking to the topic means talking about the Qur'an and not the Bible - but his very point was that the miracle IS that the qur'an didn't copy errors from the bible while having so many of the other details.
I say this without any pleasure because I find Nadir's points to be really quite silly and would have preferred for this notion of miracles in the qur'an to be comprehensively defeated in this video but the debate was a farce.

But quran did copy from Christian and Jewish texts. Infact Surah Kahf in Quran was stolen from a Syriac Christian legend called Sleeper of the cave. Even the claimed mention of Alexander the great in quran in the same surah Kahf are stolen from the Syriac version of a eulogistic account of Alexander’s conquests, The Deeds of Alexander by Callisthenes of Olynthus.

  • @lakerstekkenn

    Do honey bees eat fruit?
The short answer is yes. Honey bees, especially in a nectar dearth, find ripe fruit very much to their liking. They have been known to feast on plums, peaches, grapes, apples, figs, and pears. But the issue that causes all the disagreement among beekeepers is whether honey bees will actually drill a hole in a fruit or if they simply use pre-existing breaks in the skin created by a wasp, stink bug, beetle, bird, or some other creature.
I have followed long threads on BeeSource, GardenWeb, and some other forums containing heated debates on whether honey bees are even capable of breaking the skin of fruits. Some beekeepers have placed grapes in a hive, or smeared them with honey, only to find the grapes still intact once the honey was gone. One person found the grapes propolized to the frames.
Certainly honey bees like their fruit very ripe. Fruit is sweet when slightly overripe, but more important in the bee world, it emits a fragrance that the bees can find. With an odor to follow, it is easier for honey bees to pinpoint a source of food, especially one that doesn’t look like a flower. Along with the aroma, however, comes a disintegration of the skin. It certainly isn’t difficult to puncture an overripe peach or pear, although grapes can be trickier due to a tougher exterior.

I am afraid Mr Nadir is the very person misleading the audience.. It appears that present day non native Arabic speaking muslims are coming up with their own interpretation of the Quran. How could that be? May you allow me to say that any debate with Honorable Nabir could be a waste of time. We are praying for Mr Nadir.

    Aishah said:
“The Verse of stoning and of breastfeeding an adult ten times was revealed,
and the paper was with me under my pillow. When the Messenger of Allah
died, we were preoccupied with his death, and a tame sheep came in and

Why to put the focus on those?
the primary goal of quran is to support Islamism and Caliphat.

Qur'an verse about stoning the devils and the Christians not understanding this verse remember Allah said He uses allegorical stories as teachings in the Qur'an and real stories just like the Bible and Adam and Eve and the talking snake and the Magical Tree, So obviously the stoning of devils with shooting stars is an allegorical message about astrology and them predicting the future trying to steal information and Allah confuses them by shooting stars while they scramble to gather information and the 3 wise men used this shooting star to predict Jesus birth according to the Biblical manuscripts.
According to Arab traditions the astrologers use to gain information from the evil spirits and give it to the people and the pagans were accusing Muhammad of gaining information from the evil spirits and giving this information to the people.
Allah in His Wisdom understands mans taboos and fears so Allah informs the Arabs using an allegorical story saying no Allah guards this realm from the evil spirits with meteors some say flames of light to ward off evil spirits so his message is pure.
This same type of language is used in the Bible and Christians have no problem with these allegorical stories also in their Bible and don't question why God just didn't explain everything clearly and in reality instead of a talking snake and Dragons Unicorns and the Beast with multiple eyes.
Lapidating Devils with Meteors in the Age of Ignorance Among the Chaldeans who immigrated to Arabia, there were astronomers and magicians who taught Arabs astronomy and astrology, though there was some familiarity with Indian astronomy among the Arabs prior to that time. As time passed, Babylonian thought also influenced the Arab culture and belief system, and formed the foundation for the belief in the direct influence of the heavens and stars on human life. Arab sorcerers also added fuel to the fire, and after some time, sorcery became an essential part of the Arab astrological ideology in the Age of Ignorance (Zaydan 2011, 403).Arab sorcerers usually informed people of future occurrences, interpreted dreams, remedied maladies, and resolved conflicts among the commons.
There was a general belief that sorcerers were in contact with jinn, and managed to acquire heavenly information through these demons who could give ear to the heavens (Ali 2001,12:334). Ibn Abbas is quoted as saying, During the Age of Ignorance, there were some magicians who were accompanied by jinn.
Those jinn ascended to the heavens and listened to heavenly tidings.
Then, they descended to the earth and informed their companions of what they had heard. Sorcerers provided their audience with the collected tidings, which were either about the past or the future.
After Prophet Muhammad [s] was chosen as the prophetof Islam, jinn were banned from their previous doings and the heavens became protected against their spying.(Shami1993,108) Some figures of the Age of Ignorance, such as Awf ibn Jaza‘, Aws ibn Hajar, and Bishr ibn Abi Hazim, referred in their poems to shooting with stars.
They used to regard the fall of a star or a meteor as the sign of a grand man’s death or birth. There is a tradition, attributed to the Prophet (s), that he was once sitting among a group of his Companions when a falling meteor was suddenly seen in the sky. The Prophet (s) asked them: “What would you deem such a phenomenon in the Age of Ignorance?”
They answered: “O Messenger of Allah! Upon seeing such
88/ Religious Inquiriesa meteor, we would say that a king passed away or a great man was born” (Ali 2001, 12:336).The word “shihab” in Arabic originally refers to a flame of fire, and since a meteor appears like a flame of fire, this word was used to refer to it (Farahidi 1410 AH, 3:403; Ibn Manzur 1995, 1:509). The word was also used with the same meaning in the Arabic literature before and after Islam. For instance, Aswad Nahshili, a poet of the Age of Ignorance, said in one of his poems, “He threw up the spear, and then the spear continued to move as if it had been a burning meteor (shihab)” (Ibn Manzur 1995,15:204). This usage of “shihab” semantically conforms to the Quranic usage of the word.
You really need to read the full link to get the correct interpretation.

    Another interpretation certain Arabs believe.
Qur’an says shooting stars are missiles for the Jinn?
    Question
    www.al-mawrid.org/index.php/questions/view/quran-says-shooting-stars-are-missiles-for-the-jinn
Does the Qur'an say that shooting stars are a way to scare away the Jinnat from heaven. If so is this abstract or is this literal. How do Muslims in today's scientific age explain this to a non Muslim?
    Answer
    By Mushafiq Sultan
Related verse of Surah Mulk and its English translation follows:
"We have adorned the lowest heaven with lamps and We have made them [these lamps] a means of bombardment on the devils." (67:05)
The verse does not mean that stars are pelted rather the obvious implication is the stars are used as the places for bombarding the devils. An analogy would better explain the usage. If, for example, someone says that the post will be made a torrent of bullets for the militants he obviously means that the place would be used to launch an effective assault on them. What kind of bombardment happens is not made known to us. It is possible that certain stars emit peculiar radiations that are dangerous for the devils among the Jinn, who have been created from a form of energy (fire; See 15:27). The Qur'an also informs us that extra measures were taken to guard the contents of the Holy Qur'an from any interpolation by the devils from among the jinn during its revelation period as has been variously referred to in the Holy Qur'an. (See for example: 15:18, 37:10, 72:9)
And we used to sit on places (high) therein to listen. Whoever listens now finds a flame in wait for him. (72:9)
In this and the other similar verses the word Shahab does not necessarily connote meteorites we are acquainted to. The Qur'an simply used the word 'Shahab' in its literal connotation meaning a mass of fire.
    Hope this helps.
    Bible example
For example, in Acts 2:17-21 Peter quotes Joel 2:28-32, describing “wonders in the heavens… The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood…” This is not to be taken literally.
Mark 13:25. This is not about an asteroid or a comet or a meteorite. Jesus is talking here about the events of the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70 in apocalyptic terms which his Jewish hearers would definitely understand. They would not have taken the comment about the sun, the moon and the objects falling from the sky literally, but they would have assumed that this is “the Day of the Lord” when God comes in judgement, which is exactly what happened when Jerusalem was destroyed.

In every debate so far, Nadir only wants to run from all questions. When he is called out on this he tends to laugh as though that is acceptable and states “oh I am being bombarded by so many questions, I didn’t come prepared for all theses different things that you have thrown at me.” He is clearly practicing for a marathon. Pitiful man, totally ignorant to what modern science has revealed, but nadir wants to live under a 14th century rock.🤦🏾‍♀️
