      Years. It was my car for college and work. By the time I got rid of it it, it had 220,000 miles and was still running in good condition. It’s a perfect car for a big city like Los Angeles. It’s very easy to repair. I believe the guy that bought it replaced many parts for new.

      Except he thought windshield washer fluid was more important to mention than your air filter… dirty air filter can cause poor mpg, engine hesitation, foul your mass air flow sensor, or even worse.

    I never just wipe away white corrosion on the battery terminals. I mix a little baking soda with water and pour it on and it neutralizes and dissolves the white powder. I then remove the terminal cables: negative off first and replaced last and coat the terminals with dielectric "grease" or vaseline.

    Thanks for sharing. I would also check tire pressure periodically and replace air filters every 15,000 miles. I think that the transmission dip stick should be returned to engine design. Also, full size spare tires need to be part of standard safety equipment and should be law. It really worries me when I need to use that tiny temporary spare tire. It feels unsafe and handles poorly when it is on the car.

    If you open the top of the coolant reservoir and shine a flashlight down there inside the throat, it's mush easier to see the level. Same for the window washer tank and the brank fluid one. I also find the orange plastic thing on the dipstick hard to read. They should have just left it a metal one. Both my Fit and Civic have this same orange thing that's hard to read reliably. One of Honda's blunders, IMO. My lawn mower has a dipstick that is just metal down at the tip, very easy to read.

    Thanks for the reminder... for some reason, I've neglected my 2010 fit. I put 180,000 miles on it over the last decade but have never added or checked the oil (do change it when the minder tells me to) and have never added or changed the brake fluid or coolant. Last time I put on new brake pads I just swapped them out in 10 minutes flat and the fluid was still at a good level. I've never cleaned the engine, or the battery terminals either. I put in a new engine air filter at some point, 'can't remember when. Maybe this Summer I'll give the whole thing a good once-over.

I punted on the spark plug replacement, valve adjustment, brake fluid flush, new engine coolant, new transmission fluid. My bad. The car is now over 10 years old, has 180,000 miles on it, and runs flawlessly. This Spring I'm ready to lavish a little care on the thing.

    I haven't had the oil changed in my 2013 model since 2019. I drive infrequently, however. At the 2019 oil change it had 14,785 miles only. It currently has a little over 16k. According to the indicator I am at 40 percent despite the years. I have never had the brake or transmission fluids changed. I probably would've had the oil changed in 2021 even if the indicator was above 15 percent, but I was fearful about the pandemic. Every October or November or so, the indicator for tire pressure lights up without fail since it was brand new. I put some air in all four tires and it goes away until the next year. I think I will finally do my oil change in this spring.

There's rubber aligned the rest of it to protect from dirt and debris getting into the engine, but is this left blank intentionally because that is where the switch/hook is to open the engine hood? It looks like you don't have a rubber piece either above the "H"...is it missing or not meant to be there? LOL thanks!

      I had the exact same issue for years -- open the sunroof, spool a long line of weed whacker twine gently down the two sunroof drain holes until you hit a dead end on each. Spin it around to clear any blockages, remove it, then pour a good amount of water down each drain and watch for it to quickly exit down to the ground by the tire wells. Wait for a heavy downpour, check for a dry carpet and celebrate! Neither the dealership or bodyshop could ever replicate this issue, and they'll try to clear the drains using compressed air which unfortunately doesn't work and will be a waste of your time and money.

      I just ask them to show me. Put it up on the lift, and point to where it's leaking. Leaks are often visible because there's fluid there.
      If the shop can't let you in for insurance reasons, the mechanic can just take photos on their phone, walk back, and show you that way.
      I realize this reply is late. I hope you were able to get it solved without much trouble.

    How do I know what type of engine oil to buy?

    • @CarsForNoobs
      @CarsForNoobs  4 года назад +3

      0w20 for the 2015-2020 Honda fit. Otherwise, it says in the manual

      09 takes 5 20 ...it says it on the oil cap too. Google will tell you..or in the manual

    Hi the clutch oil you don't check

    • @kljokikljoki
      @kljokikljoki 2 месяца назад

      No clutch oil on 2024 model. They check it during regular service maintenance.

  •  Год назад +1

    Coolant part is a bit confusing. Why do we have 2 separate points to check?

      The white one is the top up reservoir so it will draw off that. Just keep it topped up.

    Thanks you so much ! It was very useful information on maintenance. Keep up the great work on your Chanel ! :) I have a 2016 Honda Fit , same color as yours :) . Few months ago I lost my engine splash shield from unknowingly dragging it for many miles. I know a lot of cars lose them on the highways and people thinks it’s not a big deal to drive with out it. What are your thoughts ?

    • @CarsForNoobs
      @CarsForNoobs  4 года назад +3

      Thanks, for the splash guard you can probably leave it off. Its supposed to help aerodynamics and protect from corrosion. Its very easy to fall off on the fit, mine is loose at the back and have to zip tie it on. I actually talk about this in my oil change video, which I will hopefully post soon

    What are you using to clean the engine bay at the end?

    • @CarsForNoobs
      @CarsForNoobs  3 года назад +1

      I just either water or a quick detailer or or wash less cleaner like optimum no rinse. I figure these should be safe on all materials under the hood (metal, painted metal, plastic, rubber)

    • @MsReclusivity
      @MsReclusivity 3 года назад +1

      Water with a little bit of dish soap in it is pretty good at cleaning up the engine. It's considered a light degreaser. I watch ChrisFix use it all the time when cleaning engines

    Never go over 3k don’t care about synthetic don’t go over 3k unless u want sludge in ur block. Good video still. 4:39 use baking soda and water to get the white stuff off ur batt 2nd use dielectric grease on the batt terminal to stop that intact use that grease on anything electric

    • @viperstrike3827
      @viperstrike3827 2 года назад +1

      Yes I agree with your statement on oil. The gas puts the dirt in the oil. The synthetic may hold up better, but the engine and gas still puts dirt in in the oil at the same rate.

    Every year I let a specialist check my airco for 10 Euro's. I am amazed how many people just don't seem to care about easily avoiding trouble and expensive repairs by checking fluids.

    Engine totally cold? When checking oil level?

    • @CarsForNoobs
      @CarsForNoobs  3 года назад

      That's always what I've done. I think it easiest to get an accurate measurement ( no excess oil on the upper part of of stick). Some do recommend checking when the engine is warm so I guess thay works fine too

    • @kljokikljoki
      @kljokikljoki 2 месяца назад

      according to the service manual you should warm up engine. halt it and wait for 5 minutes and then pull out the deep stick and check oil level and colour as well
