    Incidentally, Jamaica is not a 'poor' country. They considered themselves poor due to their mentality. They considered themselves poor in comparison to what others have which they already have but do not realize it. They want more than anyone else, believe everyone owes them, and has a severe deficiency in thankfulness and mindfulness.
    They have no regard for how others are doing. And believe that everyone in other countries owe them.

    The problem is in a great part due to the American mentality of getting something for nothing. Lets face it why do you think you have won money if you have not entered a lottery? "That's just plain and simply stupid. " hi you just won 10 million""What lottery is that""the blah bla lottery""but I didn't enter the blah blah lottery so how could I win"?I mean how stupid or greedy could you get?

      @erikaInDR 7 лет назад +3

      jussayin mipeece It sounds so simple right? But...unfortunately everyone isn't born with street smarts or even common sense. Then you have to realize some people are older and may be going thru Dimentia or other life traumatizing issues. Those people are their targets, I wouldn't necessarily say it's the greed of Americans.

    i think its up to us here in the united states to teach and get the word out to our elderly about these scams. We shouldn't treat them like they don't know any better when need to take the time to explain to them how these scams work or show them this video

      I actually showed my mother this video and explained things after the first scam. We talked a lot about it. The first time she sent out a bank draft to a mule ( another person being scammed) in Illinois but by luck and some work we actually got someone to convince that mule to hand over the 10k bank draft. My mother ended up losing just $400 on that scam. But it happened again. This time she lost 7k. We recovered only 3k, although insurance covered that. The third time it happened they called saying that she was going to get her money back from the second scam and she believed them. I only found out because the bank called me. On the third scam she lost an additional $400 on that one. I changed both the home phone number and the cell phone number and the settings on the cell phone to block all Jamaican numbers, any suspected scammers, and it will take calls only from those on the contact list. Changing numbers is absolutely required if you are getting calls from Jamaicans because it means you are on one of their call lists. My mother is not suffering from dementia she is still the card shark she's always been, etc but she has become more trusting and gullible. I've always been a suspicious type personality. Now another family lives with her and knows everything going on. One thing to look out for is frequent calls from the same number. These bastards call you night and day and begin working on your mind. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them do voodoo on their victims. My point here is keep track of your elders phone history and change their settings and their numbers if these bastards ever start calling them. Don't just rely on showing this show every year to them.

    "Just hang up" is not helpful advice. Once a gullible person answers the phone, skillful scammers can manipulate and hook them. The better approach is "Don't pick up the phone." You can let an inexpensive answering machine screen the call; scammers will almost always "just hang up" on their side. Legitimate callers will start talking; then you can pick up the phone and answer them.
