    If you can, for starters...don't answer calls from ph numbers you don't recognize. Your friends /family will leave you voice mail or text you. Then block the numbers for any future calls. Do not answer any calls that show unknown # or no caller ID. Hope this helps.

      I tell all my personal business people and my family that I do not answer my phone due to all malarkie scams and spam risk ect. There are other means to contact me. If not by text then you have my address so please understand nothing personal but contact me other ways besides a phone call. I keep my phone turned down for a good reason. Understand and respect me for my decision it is nothing personal what so ever. My choice alone.

      100% agree. Plus I switch off my cellphone unless I need to use it. Anyone trying to reach me should sms or use the Internet. As an added safety, I have a separate cellphone just for banking transactions and nothing else. And that phone is always powered off until I need to do Internet banking connections.
      I buy the cheapest phone. No need for the most expensive, latest model. My best protection...Power Off. Power On only when I need to.
      The biggest weakness is to keep the computer and hp powered on especially the hp.

      What most people forget is that any real notifications will be mailed. My wife and I are both receiving calls from a scam collection company who say they can help us with a large bill from around 2012. They're using multiple phone numbers, even some numbers local to us. We did in fact incurr that bill back then but has long since been resolved. Where the scam comes in is that they tell us the bill is still pending without resolution and they'd be happy to "help" us with it by making payments to them. This company has many registered complaints against them yet they continue to bother and victimize people without interference from law enforcement.
      There's a phone app called truecaller I think which can help individuals in these cases.

    I've gotten this one several times: A professional American sounding woman recording says they have a special lower rate offer for your credit card. You press 1 and someone sounding Indian or Middle Eastern starts to explain how since you are an excellent customer, you are now eligible for a 3% interest rate, but he just needs to verify your VISA credit card number. I repeatedly gave him a fake number, and he kept getting frustrated saying it was invalid. I then said "well, you're Bank of America, don't you KNOW the right number? He repeated that he needed to verify it. I then told him to hold on while tried to find the right one card in my purse. And then I said "while you're waiting, please take this opportunity to go f--- yourself!" And I hung up.

      They misuse the word Verify. If they’re verifying, they should give you the number! I got a bunch of these from a drugstore, American callers. About some fakatka “points” plan (where you wait 20 minutes in line while an old dear looks for her “card.” I never shop at those places.) Asked me to verify my dob. I said ok. Then they wanted me to give it. I refused. They’d put me on hold, come back saying, “Sorry Ma’am, we can’t do that.” I’d reply, “I didn’t ask you to do anything! You called me!”

    We had a keylogger put on our computer by a scammer. I was in the IT field and feel embarrassed that this ever happened but trusting a large company was my mistake. My husbands Dell was under warranty so I told him to have Dell fix it because it needed a new motherboard. He called Dell Support and (to make a long story short) got a tech that talked us into getting on our computer and he put a keglogger on it. After going through 3 techs we finally got it fixed but now had to deal with all the problems. We had tickets to Elton John and he sold our tickets to someone else. We eventually were able to stay and watch the show from nose bleed seats. Ticketmaster refunded the entire amount. We ended up replacing the hard drives. NEVER EVER let anyone on your computer remotely. This guy had an Indian accent and I was Leary about it but I trusted Dell. Doing research I found that Dell knew for many years that they have hired scammers but don't do anything about it.

    I received the IRS call that said I owed X amount of taxes [several times now] and if I did not pay right now, they were going to send the local police out to arrest me. The problem is that I used to work for the IRS and also was a state police officer for 21 years. I had also just filed my income tax form a couple of days before and knew I did not owe taxes. I knew that the IRS never called before sending a registered letter to the tax payer, and I also knew that the local police had nothing to do with enforcement of Income tax laws, and that was Federal enforcement. So I just hung up. It was really laughable. I do not answer my home home unless I recognized the number or name. All my calls go to voice mail.

    A new twist on the Microsoft scam call is someone claiming to be from a tech support company will call. Same scam. I once got a call just like this and knew immediately it had to be a scam because I didn't have the internet at the time. So I asked the caller to please explain to me how my computer could have been communicating with them when I didn't even have the internet. Oh, and the funniest Microsoft scam call came when my computer wasn't working and wasn't even hooked up!

    Here's my favorite. Regardless of what they ask you, start moving the phone slowly away from your ear and mouth. Since they are on a headset, they will keep turning up the volume, when you get to the point that they truly cannot hear you, literally put your mouth ON the receiver and yell I CAN HEAR YOU, WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?!!

    You didn’t mention that, depending on your provider’s settings, your line might stay “live” after hanging up so that when you call the genuine bank’s fraud number you could be talking to the scammer.

    • @riverjordan2725
      @riverjordan2725 Год назад +2

      He mentioned that in a more recent Scam, something like 2021's New Scam list. That scam scared me, because I didn't know you can still be active with the Scammer even after hanging up and dial your real Bank's Phone number and still be speaking directly to the Scammer! 😱 But Posters on that video pointed out the Scammer wouldn't have the "Welcome To Bank Of America, we're pleased to serve you, please press 1 for English, 2 for Spanish, press 1 to enter your Account Number," etc. They'd just immediately say something like,"Hi, this is Robert King with Bank Of America, how may I help you?" Which is obviously NOT how a real bank starts right off the bat."

    They can also call impersonating FBI agents or police officers and threatening you. They will usually try to make you wire them money to supposedly avoid jail time for some minor offense. It sounds kinda legit until they mention you driving to the bank right away.

    We have gotten the IRS Scam many times. So one day my wife gets this call and she says: "Who?". Of course, the explanation starts and she says: "You're going to call the police and have them come and arrest me?" (DUH) "Will you tell them to hurry?" (The other end goes very quiet) Then the guy asks if she really wants him to call. She says: "Yes. It has been so hectic around here lately that I need a rest and with free room and 3 meals prepared by someone else, it is a deal I don't want to miss. Please send them quick." Then she heard the telltale sign of a scammer - click. I mean, the dumbas didn't even realize that there is no IRS in Canada. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is the equivalent.

    I had the Canadian version of an attempted IRS scam, where they claimed to be from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The thing is, just a week earlier I had just cleared up a mistake where CRA thought I owed them $18,000 (It took me 2 years to clear up!). I thought maybe one department hadn’t had time to let another department know the mistake was cleared up so I did call them back. But instead of the number in the voicemail I used the one in my contacts. Of course they reassured me everything was fine.

    • @aloisius4188
      @aloisius4188 Год назад

      The CRA will NEVER call you out of the blue on the phone about any tax matters !
      ONLY and UNLESS you initiated a call to THEM will they phone to discuss your matter.

      @eph2vv89only1way Год назад

      @@aloisius4188 I do know that. But we had been having conversations for 2 years to clear up the misunderstanding. So it was reasonable for me to think that they could be calling me. I was one of the people the scammers hope to randomly hit. I just outsmarted them by using the number I already had on my phone instead of the one in the voicemail

    A couple times, I've gotten this super creepy scam call, I never found out what it is, but it starts out with a pre-recorded message and it doesn't sound recorded at first and it doesn't sound like a robot at all, it sounds like a live person. First, it starts out with some elderly American woman's voice that would be hard to discern if you know the person or not. The first thing they would say is just your first name in the form of a question. Clear as a bell and you think it's a real person. They got me the first with my saying "Yes?". Then it went on, with the same voice, with a chuckle and saying "You're harder to get a hold of than..." blah blah blah. I was still fooled at this point. I asked "Who is this?", I forgot what the next response was, but then I knew they got me and I hung up.
    That was the weirdest spam call ever.
    There was another one just like that, but it started with "Hello?" in a younger woman's voice and again sounded like a live person. After you respond back, they the same voice continues, saying she's having trouble with her headset and tries to adjust it. I hung up.
    I got both of those calls, with the same messages, but I wasn't fooled again and as soon as I heard my name called like that, or with that "Hello?" I would just hang up.
    I don't know what those calls are, but anyone get those? Cause those are creepy as hell, especially since it's all pre-recorded.

    • @riverjordan2725

      I got a spam call similar to that, but it starts off with a warm female voice asking how you are doing and you respond something like,"I'm fine, how are you? She chuckles warmly and says,"I'm fine too, glad to hear that you are fine too. Then all of a sudden, a Robotic voice asks you if you want to sign up for Medical Insurance! 🤨🧐 I did,"You're a Robot!" The other line hung up right after I acknowledged that this was a Robot and not a living human being! 🤣

    If it’s important, they will leave a message. I have med conditions, and my phone is part of my critical communications.
