I’m just getting into film photography myself, after taking a B&W Darkroom class this last semester. My Mamiya RB67 is actually arriving today, and your videos have been a huge help. I admire and appreciate your humility, and look forward to seeing more content from ya. Much love bud.
Enjoying your videos for the second time. Had an RB67, sold it and regretted it ever since. Just got its replacement today and ordered the slightly smaller meter prism. Not really expecting the meter to be accurate, mainly just wanted a 45 deg prism for viewing and if the meter works it is a bonus. Had a Hasselblad but at a fraction of the price the RB just makes more sense.
I keep a prism finder on one RB67 body and a waist-level finder on a second body. I tend to use the prism finder when I am shooting macro on a copy stand or when shooting with the camera mounted on a tall tripod. I tend to use the waist-level more when I am shooting full-lengh portraits or taking ground-level shots.
I say this with love, be confident in yourself man! I loved this video and you earned my sub with ease. The McDonald’s reference had me dying! Keep up with the work, it was easy to follow, easy to listen to and keep shooting. Best
There is an old prism for the RB that has a light meter. Mine came with that. I wanna try a waist level just to try. But ya I don’t think the light meter works properly I put a battery in it, lights up, but always only shows the number 1 slightly to the right 🤷♂️
yea i’ve read that a lot of old prisms don’t have working meters :/ a lot of people recommend a handheld meter for that reason. i really recommend trying a waist level finder, it’s so different 😅
Thank you for posting. There is an external clip on magnifier for the prism that you have, could be FD-701. I have one for my RZ and it works great. Cheers from Canada.
never. the only thing that comes to mind is that maybe your lens is set to the mirror up setting. in a nutshell, having the lens on the mirror lock up setting means you have to manually move the shutter speed wheel to “redo” the shutter. if it’s not this then maybe you just have a faulty lens? ive had a camera before where certain shutter speeds wouldn’t “fire”, if this makes sense :/ !

definitely, i see myself doing this too. the waist level finder is so much better for portraits, the ground level shots are super convenient as well !

Cradle the camera like a football 🏈 that protects the camera and simplify carrying.
