  • Are your aquatic plants melting?
In this video, I will let you know how to take care of new aquatic plants from melting. How to buy aquatic plants from the retailer to avoid the melting of aquarium plants.
melting fo aquatic plants is one of the major issues found in the new aquarium setup.
Every aquascape in their early stage of setting up a planted aquarium would have faced the issue of melting of aquatic plants.
Few simple tips to avoid melting of aquatic plants are as follows
Before you buy your aquatic plants or the aquarium plants from the shop, make sure the plants are healthy. You cannot buy already dying aquarium plants and expect beautiful growing plants in your aquarium.
You can find out the aquatic plant deficiency just by looking at them. Make sure the colors of the leaf are bright and healthy. Most importantly the roots of your aquarium plants need to be healthy.
There are two reasons why plants melt
    1. Emersed aquatic plants - Most of the aquarium plants that you buy from the retailer or anywhere are grown emersed which means these plants were grown above water. When it rains these are submerged under the water and become transitioning plants. The emerged aquatic plants take about a week to change its color, leaf size etc to adapt to the condition. During this transitioning period the co2, light, and filtration need to support it. If these are not sufficient then plants melt.
    2. Submerged Aquatic plants - even the underwater plants can still melt as most of the underwater plants are from the farms where they grow plants in the river which is exposed to snails, chemicals, insects, etc. These aquatics plants adapt to the river water. But in most of the cities, the water quality is really good, naturally, the ph is good. Due to this there is again transitioning of plants to adapt to your aquarium water.
Just keep in mind, either the plants are grown in dirty water or good water still you will see aquatic plants melting if the conditions in the aquarium are not supporting with minerals and other necessity to allow the plants for the transition.
    Buy your plants wisely.

Greetings Mayur Sir, In July 2021, I had setup my new 15 gallon tank with elocharis parvula, anubias (nana and petite), Bucephelandra, Staurogyne repens, ARmini, Rotala (Macrandra Bangladesh + Shimoga + Nanjeshan), myriophyllum guyana, Java moss. Except Nanjeshan all did well. Moss grows but not with proper green color. Staurogyne repens was so well grown and suddenly after 4 months it melted only stems remained. Also I see Cyanobacteria very frequently built up on Bucephelandra, Black beard algae on Anubias and lava rocks. Plants are growing but are not so bright and lustrous in color like yours.
Substrate: ADA Amazonia ver 2 with Super 4 during setup
    PH between 6.2-6.8
    GH 2d
    KH 1d
Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates used to be between 10-40, but since last 1.5 months its near to 0 (May be the issue).
Please enlighten me on the issue and its solution. Also newly added amano shrimps keep dying within a week always. Any help would be helpful! 🙏

After one month it Started melting.
I'm not sure what the problem
I use same water for my betta tank and guppy tank.
In guppy tank plants are still flourishing and growing that I have to trim them down almost after every weeks.
Whereas in my betta tank same plants are melting.
In both tank there is sufficient light.
The difference is I have top filter for my betta tank and guppy tank have hang on the back filter.
I fill the water at maximum level in my betta tank so water can still at some extend.
In betta tank there are also pest snails has grown.
There is also hair algae in betta tank on top tip of plants.
There are shrimp, siamese algae eater, corydoras, racersnail in guppy tank.
Where are in betta tank there are racersnail and pest snails are there..
Test of waters is almost same.
I do same time water change for both tanks.
I do remove dead/melted leaves form betta tank.
Stems are still green in betta tank and there I can see new leaves are emerging.
But all the situation is getting me confused.

Namaste Mayur ji, I stay in Hyderabad. It was almost a month I set up a cement container pond in my backyard. I had one Anubia, money plant and azolla before I added Brazallian Pennywort and Green Cabomba. After 20 days i added 2 pair of guppies. The fish is doing good. Till today I fed them only once. The problem is - 1) 3 Cobomba stems out of 5 has melted in between but its starting point is still bushy. So when they were separated, I tied it to the stone and left loosely into the substrate. So what went wrong here for me? 2) Same happened with Brazalian Pennywort and I followed the same process i.e. tying it to a stone and leaving it to the substrate. Now the leaves are so small that they are not growing big... So why is this happening? Should I add some fertilizer to the water? Am clueless and worried that the melting might happen again. Please advise.
    Thank you
