Goyard is by far the most difficult to acquire from an AD (only 20ish worldwide). And as you mentioned there is no online commerce and there are so many fakes sold at the resellers. All of that has probably turned people off. I love their products though. I have a two-watch case, the desk pad, and recently bought my wife the Anjou GM in black leather. All of their stuff are beautifully made and the goyardine print is my favorite of all the luxury brand monograms.
Goyard's exclusivity definitely adds to its allure, but I can see how the limited availability and the prevalence of fakes can be frustrating for enthusiasts. Your collection sounds fantastic! The attention to detail and craftsmanship in Goyard's products is truly remarkable, and the Goyardine print is undeniably iconic. It's great to hear that you're enjoying their pieces, including the recent gift for your wife. Thanks for sharing your love for Goyard!
I have the same interest/lack of interest for Goyard. We have a boutique here as well, a pretty big one btw, they even offer custom initials painting and all of that, but I never felt inclined to spend my coins there. After Cassie's video I went through their website and saw this pouch that could be a good MacBook case and I am thinking about taking a look at it in person. Again, nothing super exciting, but a nice brand/history/all of that. Love the video btw! Can't wait for the official Birkin reveal video (it is so pretty and I am still so happy for you!!!) 💚
I'm glad I'm not alone in this! I was looking at their website before filming this, and a few pieces caught my eye- but I'm not sure I'm ready to dive in head first. I'm enjoying my little H journey. And I'm so excited for Saturday!!
I always love when you dive into bag history and brand history in your videos, Caleb. It's always nice to hear about and really gives perspective into why bags were created from a brand. That said, with a bit of history... As a Vietnamese American whose parents and grandparents were Vietnamese refugees from the Vietnam War, I have conflicting thoughts about Goyard using the Saigon name for their bags, especially with how some articles talk about the Saigon bag and referring to Saigon as "Far East-inspired" or "Eastern culture" or "exotic," all of which leave a bad taste in my mouth. You are right that in some sources, the Saigon bag was created for a "customer in Indochina in the 1930s," which historically is French Indochina comprised of Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam (AKA part of Southeast Asia). However, it's also been said that it was a special order for a French man who was in Saigon, Vietnam as a gift for his wife in the 1950s. His wife's ethnicity wasn't disclosed, so I can only assume his wife is French rather than Vietnamese. Today's Saigon is what's referred to as Ho Chi Minh City (which no one who is Vietnamese and experiences diaspora refers it to) due to the Fall of Saigon that happened during the Vietnam War, and it can get quite political with the current Vietnam flag vs. the flag that Vietnamese refugees from the Vietnam War have identified or even how you refer to Saigon. While I know that Goyard is a luxury designer company, its Saigon bag's only connection to Vietnam is the love story and nothing to do with Vietnamese culture or Saigon, Vietnam. To me, it feels like cultural misappropriation by using Saigon in the name (when Goyard could've called it something else), especially since France colonized Vietnam (hence French Indochina) and Goyard is a French brand. I do think that most Vietnamese people in Vietnam probably don't think much about this at all (or even have this on their radar) since only the truly wealthy in Vietnam can even afford designer brands there. (For context, the Saigon bag is over a hundred million Vietnamese đồng, and $1 VND is $0.000041 USD.) For me, I don't see myself ever owning or buying a Goyard bag because of this. I personally don't think you're missing out too much with Goyard, especially when I think about all the bags in your collection (like your Kelly and Birkin!), but if you ever decide to have a Goyard bag, I won't hold it against you (or anyone else, for that matter) because we all got our reasons for buying what we buy, especially if it's something we like or it's something that has sentimental value. 😄
Hi Dejiko! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this and share your insight on the topic. I really do appreciate it! I learned a lot from this comment, so thank you!!
Thank you for sharing this with us 🙏 I agree with you that Goyard should choose a different name. History is everything and knowing the roots of that name being used by a French company (former colonizer) is important.
@@ZaneAnderson1 Yes, and while I know that Saigon (the name) came from French Indochina, it still makes me feel uncomfortable... 😅 (For context, the Vietnam War with North Vietnam winning is what resulted in Saigon, Vietnam being renamed as Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.) I'm surprised that there hasn't been an uproar or criticism about Goyard giving the bag this name and sticking with it. I hope in the future that Goyard at least renames their Saigon bag to something else (and that articles in the future don't refer to its design as "Far East-inspired" or "East Culture" or "exotic") since its design is not shown to be related to Vietnamese culture or Saigon, Vietnam at all.
@@dejiko001 I also hope they rename the bag(s). Companies (no matter how historical) should understand the history/context when naming their products, among other things.
Love your sweater, that blue looks great on you💙 I’m not a goyard fan, I don’t get the price of these bags. But that’s just me. I’m so looking forward to the great unveiling Saturday morning 💗💗💗
I have used the same St. Louis tote for years and it still looks new. The PM makes great city bag in my opinion. I have several Goyard bags, totes, card holders and recently purchased the Ambassade. Definitely recommend. The new Saigon is beautiful!
I like the idea of the tote. I’ve always wanted a piece from Goyard but like you and Cassie, never pulled the trigger. Now, I will vote yes for you getting the Dior bag because I love mine lol. Great video! Thanks for sharing 😊
Yasss, J! Now remind me- do you have the Diorever bag? Seriously, that one has been on my wishlist for years at this point, especially in that iconic silver foil leather.
@@CalebSnell yes! That’s the one. I just always remember the ads with Jennifer Lawrence lol. It’s a nice bag and fits a lot. Mine is large. If you can get the silver one in good condition, grab it!!
Goyard I love the brand and have several of the totes and a duffle, but I have stopped carrying very much if I had to suggest one I would say go with the Artois it’s my fave the hardest wearing super thick canvas comparatively. I have the St. Louis and the Anjou as well but the Artois is hands down the best, card holders I have 2 I believe and they still look brand new and I used them to death up until a few years ago.
I have two Goyard bags and I love them. I have the Isabel tote which I understand is being discontinued so go grab one now! It is amazing and a perfect tote - NOTHING like the St. Louis which I loathe. It is very sturdy heavy canvas, two large compartments and a center smaller compartment that snaps shut - perfect for phone, etc. It does not sag, even when very full for travel - it is super sturdy and firm. The top handle is long enough to put on your shoulder if needed. I have the matching small wallet and the passport holder... I am obsessed with this bag. I also have the Belevedere PM bag in red and I LOVE It. It is a perfect little cross body bag and has an outside pocket for your phone. Holds my wallet and sunglass case easily inside. Just found your channel doing searches specifically for content on the Saigon Tote! Well done you!!
Hi Suzi! The Isabel tote sounds perfect, I'll have to look into it! The Belvedere looks like a nice bag as well! I'm glad you found my channel, welcome in!
Caleb I love the history you give us on bags. It helps us decide if we want to purchase the bag. Did I hear a unboxing is coming. Can’t wait. Excellent video
I have it in red and it's gorgeous. It's leather lined not canvas like the St,. Louis tote so you will not see it collapse or lose structure. Also, I LOVE that the sides fold in like a trapezoid or you can leave them out for a boxier more casual look. It's very similar to an Hermes Birkin or Celine Phantom. Also, it is not hard to get in and out of. It's like a Birkin: you can choose to do up all the straps and lock in, which yes, would make it harder to get in and out of, but also more secure. Or, you can leave the flap "tucked" into the back in the back so that it's completely open on top. That is how I tend to wear it for work easily slipping my laptop in and out between home and office. The wood accent on the back is beautiful too. I highly recommend if you want a lovely work or travel bag that's more than just a plain open tote.
Hi Sara! I'm really glad that you love your tote! And I can definitely see the Birkin/Phantom vibes. Maybe I'll try something small from Goyard to start like a card holder!
I like the Goyard zipper tote. Stunning pattern. And I wold like a stack of Goyard steamer trunks, but that will not happen. The prices! Thank you for the video!
It's a gorgeous piece! I had the opportunity to see one at one of the boutiques and it's even more stunning up close; the bag is also SUUPER lightweight.
I bought a Goyard Artois from Poshmark. I just use it on occasion as an extra tote. If you do decide to get a Goyard tote I suggest the Artois. It is a lot sturdier than the St. Louis. I can’t wait to see your Hermes unboxing. .
Funny you mentioned this in your video… when I first saw photos of the Saigon tote, I had the same thought! It reminded me of the Senreve bag! I have to say the Goyard print wasn’t my favorite initially, but in the past few years, it grew on me…. probably because I’m older now and can appreciate it more 🙂! I have a few pieces (Artois, Saint Sulpice card holder, Senat pouch) and love every one of them! There are a few more on my wishlist but hoping to get them in Paris (one day 😬). For starting out, I would recommend the Senat pouch because it has a card slot. I have the PM size and I use it as a catchall and/or a wristlet… very versatile!
I have purchased a few pieces (totes and SLG) from the boutique. It’s a great brand if you want something different than your usual LVMH. Of their totes, I like the Artois the most. I use the Artois for work and travel. The canvas on the Artois is thicker than the St. Louis but the St. Louis is great for everyday wear. It’s actually not that hard to get a bag from Goyard if in the US. Just ring up the boutique and they can ship to you. Don’t think you’re missing out much, although their colors are pretty.
I don’t see it and never have seen it. Although this new design is the best one I’ve seen thus far ( and you’re right it does remind me of senreve as well) it doesn’t pluck at my heart strings and make me want to spend that kind of money. I think their monogram is atrocious and their canvas looks cheap and plastic. Sorry for being so blunt but I just don’t see it.
Safe Space, Deandra! Yeah, I'd rather spend that kind of money on other things I think. But then again, I've never held one IRL, so maybe that would win me over? Who knows!
So I just bough the Artois when were in Beverly Hills last month and I LOVE it, and love the brand! and now I NEED the bag lol!! Great video Caleb! I love to hear other's opinions!
I’m sitting here playing with my saigon as I’m watching this video. I’ve been eying it for so long that I’m so happy to finally have it in my collection. Goyard is the biggest collection of designer I have amongst my big collection of bags. I love the brand. I know it’s everywhere but still is an eye catcher whenever you see it in the wild. I’m in LA so it’s pretty accessible to me but I know when I even just prance around in San Diego, people look at the items and compliment for sure. Try something from the house. I know you’ll love it.
Wait a second, the modern/present day version of the Saigon tote is 5K? It doesn’t look like it’s worth that much. The original? Yes. I want to say I thought at one point I was able to see the prices of a couple of the Goyard totes on their website last year (despite not being able to purchase them on there) more for my own curiosity, as I heard the Neverfull was inspired by the St. Lous tote (or .. ) a ripoff of the St. Louis tote? It’s a brand I’d like to explore more. I’ve seen one Goyard tote out in the wild (at the Ralph’s deli counter no less). It was the black logo design with the brown leather trim. I think if I ever got one of their totes I’d either get yellow (obviously) or that pretty Kelly green.
I agree- $5k is a high ticket price! I think you're right- I feel like at some point recently the website did list the prices. Strange that they would take that away. I will say- they do yellow and green really well!
I really like Goyard. Surprisingly there’s still an exclusivity about the brand. Outside of the carry all tote, you don’t see many people carrying their bags. Couple that with the fact that you must go into a store to purchase any of their products, makes everything feel a bit more coveted. It’s bold and vibrant, but not gaudy like some Gucci or LV can be. I say you give the brand a shot!
Have you had your eyelashes and eyebrows tinited? I like the darker look. I've never bought any Goyard and I lived in France for 7 years. Not keen on the print. I like the shape of the new bag but I wouldn't buy it, not that I could now I'm back in Oz. I'm really looking forward to the unveiling of Mme Birkin on Saturday 😁
Nope- just not wearing glasses, haha! But thank you! And yeah- I haven't seen anything from the house that I have to have, I guess. And Saturday can't get here soon enough!
💯 sanreve vibes! Especially with that big tongue in the front 👅😂 the Saigon tote has definitely caught my attention, but I agree with all these comments that the cost is a bridge too far. 🙅♀️
Personally, I own the mini Anjou bag in blue and green and love them! They are so cute and hold a good amount of stuff. But I agree where you are coming from. Goyard never really spoke to me. I purchased one of those bags while in Miami and Paris just because I saw so many of them. I do love those bags from Godary but nothing really sings to me.
I see a lot of Goyard on folks around here. I don't get it. If you look at how they wear the monogram rubs off because its painted on. I just can't square the price with what the bags are.
I don’t like how “plasticy” Goryard’s canvas looks. Faure Le Page has been on my radar lately, the canvas looks amazing on the Daily Battle., I want a black neverfullish tote. The 35 is like Neverfull MM and the 41 is like the GM I love that this house keeps true to its firearms heritage with the Pochette Cal 22 gun shaped pouch. I’ve been watching Japanese resellers I may pull the trigger soon. I originally saw the brand on a French woman’s channel of bags that French people actually carry and I fell in love 😍
Yeah that’s fair, definitely a brand to check out when you’re in Europe you may save some money too. I’m trying to justify a Paris trip to my wife but she’s not buying it.
No one likes blown out corners 😂 I love the look of the goyard totes but because they are so hard to come by if you don’t have a local boutique, I’ve never added any to my collection either. I feel like my neverfull serves the same purpose as the St. Louis would - but I do love the Goyard print.
Blown out corners are the worst! haha! I agree, because they're so difficult to get, I've never really chased one, and I have other totes already that do the job. And I can't believe it- tomorrow is the BIG DAY!
There's something about the Goyard pattern that screams "grandma" bag. I remember seeing that pattern on an old lady and had no idea of it. I knew it was designer and I knew of the Goyard name. But that pattern is granny at all levels.
ALSO; correct; no one loves blown out corners! LOL -- only okay on a million year old Birkin in my mind ;) ALSO buy from the boutique; I found that prices are FAR above retail on FP!
As a person who has owned several Goyard pieces, I feel like they are overrated. I never ended up keeping any of my pieces for longer than a couple yrs. I think it may be partially due to my distaste in logo/monogram pieces, I just prefer leather now days. Thank Gawd for Hermes and Loewe!
Goyard doesn’t call my name. 🤷🏻♀️ I won’t say never, though. The saigon looks like the senreve bag everyone was buying 2 years ago. Yes the maestra bag! Maybe I should just finish watching the video. 😂
I’m not a fan of the classic print that Goyard is known for, it’s just not my vibe. Also, I’m not a fan of totes because most of them are open. However, this does have a flap, so it’s already better than most just for that.
Unpopular opinion - but I don’t mess around with brands that don’t invest in an online marketplace. I’m sure they do it to keep brand exclusivity but it gives me massive boomer vibes 😂
Like you said, looks like that nasty-ass Senreve Maestra bag, but with canvas and leather that actually looks like leather. For over 5k though, it's a hard sell. I never thought I would advocate for Senreve, but if you want something like this, perhaps it's worth a look. Now to rinse out my mouth with soap.
There's something hypnotic to me about the goyardine pattern. I actually looked it up after the first time I saw it standing in a restroom line at the symphony. Sadly, I feel like they're one of the worst luxury brands as far as quality for price.
What are your thoughts on the newest tote from Goyard?
Hmmm I think that you are right to be concerned on how it closes. Could be a problem 😶
Not really a fan. I like the Artois.

Do you know how much is the saigon tote bag in paris?
I'm not sure! But they might know over on the purse forum!
You're right about all of that, Joshua! I might give them a try with an SLG or something soon!
Well said, BeautyLuxeLover!
The brand history is interesting. It’s a bit out of my price comfort zone though. I love the look of the Saigon. TFS xoxo 🤗
Thank you, Ivana! They make beautiful things- but nothin has caught my eye yet!
The mini Anjou is super cute. And I'm glad you opted to go for the blue and green- Goyard does colors really well. I might give them a shot one day!
I see a lot of Goyard on folks around here. I don't get it. If you look at how they wear the monogram rubs off because its painted on. I just can't square the price with what the bags are.
I agree, they don't seem to wear well, especially considering their high price.
I like it but if I had 5k to spend on a bag, that would not be the bag I would choose.
I agree, Dawn- I'd most likely go for something else.
ok
Hello Caleb how is your Birkin working for you?? Have you been taking it out yet??
Hi Jeanette! I haven't carried it, but I absolutely love it!
Hey Traci! The FLP bags look so good! I want to see them in person before I pull the trigger- but I really like what I'm seeing over there!
Yeah that’s fair, definitely a brand to check out when you’re in Europe you may save some money too. I’m trying to justify a Paris trip to my wife but she’s not buying it.
Save money, live better. Love your style, Zane. You are blessed.
Hahaha! I was hoping someone would notice that!
No one likes blown out corners 😂 I love the look of the goyard totes but because they are so hard to come by if you don’t have a local boutique, I’ve never added any to my collection either. I feel like my neverfull serves the same purpose as the St. Louis would - but I do love the Goyard print.
Also - can’t wait for Saturday! 🎉
Blown out corners are the worst! haha! I agree, because they're so difficult to get, I've never really chased one, and I have other totes already that do the job. And I can't believe it- tomorrow is the BIG DAY!
Would love a video on how the VAT refunds when coming back from Paris or other EU countries!
That's a great idea, Paul! The next time I travel, I'm doing this!
@@CalebSnell selfishly it’s cause I’m going to Paris in December and idk how it works haha
@@minneapaulis hahaha! I appreciate the honesty! And I’m also incredibly jealous- Paris in December has to be beautiful!
Goyard simply doesn´t tempt me. I can´t even explain why not.
Have a great live tonight!
I’m in the same boat, Anja!
Hi Caleb ! Danke für dieses informative Video. 😂
Hallo Katja! Ich freue mich, dass dir das Video gefallen hat! Vielen Dank fürs Zuschauen!
There's something about the Goyard pattern that screams "grandma" bag. I remember seeing that pattern on an old lady and had no idea of it. I knew it was designer and I knew of the Goyard name. But that pattern is granny at all levels.
Hahaha safe space!!
That sweater is so your color
Thank you, Jak!
Goyard is such an interesting brand. So much history but not a huge following. Well at least not on the same level as LV. 💚
I agree, and I’ve heard they like it that way. They like to stay small and exclusive. Interesting though.
That's a good point- smaller brands do have a bigger air of prestige about them.
ALSO; correct; no one loves blown out corners! LOL -- only okay on a million year old Birkin in my mind ;) ALSO buy from the boutique; I found that prices are FAR above retail on FP!
That's really good to know, David! I'll have to pop in and check them out sometime!
They’re just SO expensive
100! That’s the truth!
Surprisingly it looks a looooot like the senreve bags…
Haha safe space! 💯
Haha, I hear ya! The older I get and as my collection matures, I find myself preferring simple leather pieces over logos.
Yes! You are missing something. Goyard Artios totes are fabulous. Get a Goyard for yourself, and wear it in good health!
I'll have to check them out!
Love Godard!
Yasss!!
This brand is very classic in style. It just doesn’t have that wow factor for me for the price point. Safe space😊
Haha safe space for sure!
I prefer the French and Italians too
Haha safe space!
Fortunately I’m not a Goyard fan. Less temptation in my life is good!
Haha, I know what you mean!
Goyard doesn’t call my name. 🤷🏻♀️ I won’t say never, though. The saigon looks like the senreve bag everyone was buying 2 years ago. Yes the maestra bag! Maybe I should just finish watching the video. 😂
I agree- I won't say never! Hahaha, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of that bag!
I’m not a fan of the classic print that Goyard is known for, it’s just not my vibe. Also, I’m not a fan of totes because most of them are open. However, this does have a flap, so it’s already better than most just for that.
That's true- I love a flap moment!
Unpopular opinion - but I don’t mess around with brands that don’t invest in an online marketplace. I’m sure they do it to keep brand exclusivity but it gives me massive boomer vibes 😂
Oh no, Brandon! Safe Space! haha!
I have a wallet too.
Nice! Do you recommend their SLGs?
Like you said, looks like that nasty-ass Senreve Maestra bag, but with canvas and leather that actually looks like leather. For over 5k though, it's a hard sell. I never thought I would advocate for Senreve, but if you want something like this, perhaps it's worth a look. Now to rinse out my mouth with soap.
Hahahaha! Safe Space! Now go and get some soap! 🧼 😂
Pretty bag but does not make me want it $$$ 😂
Haha, I agree with you there!
I don't want to be interested in this tote, lol
There's something hypnotic to me about the goyardine pattern. I actually looked it up after the first time I saw it standing in a restroom line at the symphony. Sadly, I feel like they're one of the worst luxury brands as far as quality for price.
Also, agree with you 1000% that Delvaux would be money better spent.
Oh I tally agree, the bags are stunning- but I’m not sure I want to buy one yet.
It’s really giving Senreve Maestra: not a compliment. Not worth 5k at all 😂
Haha! Safe space!
I never was a big fan of the Goyard bags
Yeah, I haven't been bitten by the Goyard bug yet either.
@@CalebSnellI also heard they get ruined easily
