Comment below recommendations of movies for me to do a video on my channel. Hope you enjoy my reaction of Aladdin. Aladdin live action commentary is my next video
I know I've recommended this before (in your 'Beauty and the Beast' video), but I hope at some point you will check out 'The Great Mouse Detective'. I thought of it again here because 'Aladdin' is very adventure movie-ish in some ways, and 'GMD' is one of the best straightforward adventure movies Disney's ever made, at least in my opinion. (Plus, it arguably provided the impetus for the Disney Renaissance, so movies like 'Aladdin' probably would never have been made without it.) Also, you should definitely check out 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' at some point, if you haven't - fantastic film, and a definite must for animation lovers.
@@Psycopathicus great mouse detective is on my list but I’m not sure when I’ll get around to watching it. But who framed roger rabbit is a great idea I should also add that to the list
@Jose Luis Rodriguez Sure, technically, but 'Return of Jafar' is actually a pilot of sorts for the Aladdin TV series, which 'King of Thieves' acts as the wrap-up to. So personally, I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to watch the 'entire' Disney Aladdin story, start to finish, 'cause it'd take you a while.
I'm pretty sure Jafar is just wearing a high, loose collar of some sort, in what would have been the style at that time. You'll note that when his neck is briefly exposed after taking off his 'prisoner' disguise, it looks normal (and skinny), and when he's wearing his Sultan outfit, his neck area is as snow-white as the rest of it. So his neck isn't weird, it's fashionable. Fashionable neck. But yeah, 'Aladdin' is definitely an all-time great, and one of my personal favorites. The animation, as you say, is beautiful, but it's also the color palette they use that gets me - I love all those rich, peacock blues and vibrant reds; they remind me of the covers of old fairy tale books. It's super-funny, but it's not just a comedy; it's full of action and adventure, but it's not just an adventure story; it's got romance, but it itself is not precisely a romance, and it's chock-full of magic, but it's not just a fantasy. It is its own unique blend, and I doubt we'll ever see another one quite like it.
Oh that makes sense his neck looked to different from his skin tone for the animators to not do that on purpose. And yeah the animation is amazing and makes the movie a hundred times better
I think Aladdin's problem wasn't really that he was dumb when it came to telling the truth, it felt more like deep seated insecurity issues that stemmed from him being a poor "street rat" who had fallen in love with a princess. He felt like he wouldn't be good enough for her as he really was and it took time to let go of that mindset.
Jafar was animated by the same guy who animated Scar, Hercules, and Gaston, so perhaps that's why he has Scar vibes. Meanwhile Jafar in his beggar disguise and snake form was animated by the same woman who animated Hexxus (Ferngully), Frollo (Hunchback of Notre Dame), and Tzekel Kan (Road to El Dorado).
The hole disney animated cartoons films having the older villain lusting after the younger women is because these stories are adapted from older pre-existing ones hundreds of years old during a time when men of wealth & power would marry younger girls in their teens; when they are considered adults once they can have children. Disney just tries to reintroduce the stories without completely changing the original one.

While the live-action and animated versions of Jasmine are very different (animated Jasmine was rebellious and rejected the princess label because it was controlling her life while live-action Jasmine was studious and embraced the royal title becayse she wanted to be a just ruler but was never given the chance), I think the spirit of Jasmine is captured beautifully in the live-action version. 5. Aladdin is actually the only Disney Prince since Prince Eric who isn't really selfish (Beast/Adam, Naveen, Flynn/Eugene) or discriminatory (John, Shang); his main issue was insecurity. 6. Disney was gonna make a Sinbad film following the sucess of Aladdin, but it got scrapped and Dreamworks did it instead. I'm torn; while I think Disney would've stuck with the Middle Eastern version, I wonder if they would've ran into similar, ahem, objectification issues like they did with Aladdin.

@@LexisThoughts Regarding #5, you're forgetting the fact that, much like how all of the other Disney movies were musical, oftentimes saccharine reinterpretations of previously written stories that already existed or in the case of _Beauty & the Beast_ AND _Pocahontas_ AND _Mulan_ were loosely rooted in real history (14th Century French couple Petrus Gonzalvus [a man afflicted with hypertrichosis, who went from a 12 year old feral child brought forth in a cage before the ruling class to an educated nobleman adopted by the French court of King Henry the 2nd, but was still unfairly looked upon as if he were a monster come to life due to his incurable disease] X Catherine Raffelin [Petrus' stunningly beautiful wife] being the factual inspiration for Prince Adam/The Beast X Belle, Disney's _Pocahontas_ being a whitewashing of North American indigenous culture except that the whole romance between John Smith & Pocahontas in the Disney film was pulled out of thin air because, even back then, it was still ethically wrong for a 32 year old unintentionally racist Englishman to be in a romantic relationship with a Indian tribal chief's 12 year old daughter, so the situation ended up getting hastily glossed over if not outright ignored in favor of Pocahontas choosing to relocate to England & go about marrying British aristocratic nobleman John Rolfe in the animated sequel _Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World_ just like she actually did in real-life, and _Mulan_ being a take on the historical legend of Fa Mulan, a young Chinese woman who did dress up as a man to take her ailing father's place on the battlefield & eventually saved all of China from getting conquered by the Hun horde, thereby receiving a hero's praise despite traditional gender roles otherwise still being heavily reinforced at the time), the story of _Aladdin_ on its own IS directly taken from the classic _1,001 Arabian Nights_ stories of old, which causes everything to come full circle upon realizing that the street rat's phony noble title in Disney's film depictions of _Aladdin_ IS Prince Ali Ababwa - which IS a slight reworking of Ali Baba in itself - and, thanks to what we know from the 3rd animated film in the trilogy titled _Aladdin & the King of Thieves_ Aladdin's surviving father IS the genuine King of Thieves (meaning, he leads the infamous 40, although one of them, named Cassim, leads a rebellion to turn the group against its leader once it's uncovered through a mystic oracle that Aladdin IS the King of Thieves' long-lost son) and it's revealed that the other thieves are incensed that their leader had a missing offspring (Aladdin) that's getting married to actual royalty (Princess Jasmine of Agrabah).
Despite not being a trained singer, Robin Williams slayed the role of The Genie. I love how he made the songs "Friend Like Me" and "Prince Ali" sound so jazzy and Broadway-esque. Rest in peace, Robin. We truly will never have a friend like you.
When you're younger: I hate Jafar! He's trying to get power and wanted to marry Jasmine! When you're older and figure out the ages: *gags* Jafar is gross!!! Why would he say that?! Agh!

Prince Ackmed (did I spell that right?) starts off this film by trying to whip two small children, then knocking Aladdin to the ground, into the mud. I agree that he's a rare sight, as Al says, "Look at that, Abu; it's not every day you see a horse with two rear ends!" Major burn, and no need to use foul language. He's a dying breed, it seems. Clever, resourceful, and brave, to stand up to the pompous men who trash talk about him, even to his face!
There is a musical called Twisted: The Untold Story Of The Royal Vizier, on a RUclips channel called Starkid. In the musical Jafar, is basically the good guy.
The merchant was originally planned to be the Genie, but the idea was later scrapped. The last scene in the third movie debunks the theory that its still him.
3:40 No. He did not say that the person that enters owns everything. He said only one person (which is bs as Abu is very much a person) can ENTER here.
The intro was basically Robin Williams playing with a bunch of objects the director put in front of him and narrating it, so there rlly was no script on it and he actually did break that first one
Genie's "tourist" outfit with the Goofy hat is a reference to the film Robin Williams did with Walter Cronkite for the old animation tour in Disney World's (then) MGM Studios, "Back to Neverland". At the beginning of the film he's a tourist wearing a Hawaiian print shirt and that Goofy hat, which was a popular hat they sold at Disney parks back in the '80s and early '90s.😊
First up, you are great. Second, there is no replacement for Robin Willams. No one else does the Genie like Robin. Third, Jafar’s neck had some kind of cover. It is animated like cloth not skin also when Jafar is the old prisoner, his neck is normal. Finally, I take it you missed Iago talking to Jafar as the prisoner in jail, asking him to hurry up.
A very nice reaction video. I was fortunate enough to have grown up during the "Disney Renaissance" (basically the animated movies from "The Little Mermaid" all the way through "The Emperor's New Groove"), and count "Aladdin" as one of my favorites. As a result of this fandom, I can quote one of the ending scenes (where Aladdin thinks he has to say goodbye to Jasmine) almost verbatim.
Actually, the Disney Renaissance is _The Little Mermaid_ to _Tarzan_ whereas _The Emperor's New Groove_ is from the decade after the Disney Renaissance had ended, same with _Lilo & Stitch_ , the _Atlantis_ film and _Treasure Planet_ (the steampunk version of "Treasure Island").
@@TherealRNOwwfpooh Good point. The last three movies you mentioned were part of Disney's foray into the science fiction genre, which unfortunately didn't last very long.
I'm super late to the party, but had to pop in and confirm that yes, the original script ended with the merchant at the beginning revealing himself to be the genie in disguise telling us the story.
Legends of genies were varied. I believe that a freed genie lost their powers, but what they did in the Aladdin movies was he still knew some magic. He did lose some of his power but not all of it. There were other stories like female genies that lost their powers if the got married (which was the case for like a season of 'I Dream Of Genie' then they simply didn't do that in the end without any explanation. Sit coms back then were not as strict about 'cannon', the backstory of characters or world mechanics changed all the time.)
I have a question. If someone said that same pussy cat line and looked like Aladdin would you still say “ew?”. I personally wouldn’t like being called pussy cat even though I adore cats
30:01 her red outfit reminds me of the slave Leia outfit from return of the Jedi. 31:45-31:49 my reaction to jasmine 😚 Jafar: 🤮 34:03 😆 35:25 can’t wait to see you watch the last 2 sequels from Aladdin.
If Genie saw his live action self played by Will Smith I can him making the jaw drop faces again lmao Also Jafar has a regular neck. You see it when he takes off his beard. The other color is like a collar on his outfit.
Jafar caused gazeem to die and saw him as less than worthy and should of listen to the cave of wonders about the diamond in the rough and showed no remorse.
I wonder if his baldness is why Jafar wears the huge hat all the time? Plus, if he's bald, but there's no evidence to point to chemotherapy or male pattern baldness, then how old is he? And he wants to marry Jasmine? For nefarious purposes, yes, but what made him think she'd ever want him, even if forced into marriage.
OK, it annoys me a little that they keep putting the new is new Disney vanity plate instead of the one they actually had at the time in front of these.
You should hate the visor because he is evil not because he is old. Ageism like racism and homophobia has no place in our society. Quit going on about age because your ageism is showing.

Please Disney, just come back to this phase of animation, I'm begging
This was a great reaction
Thank you
I'm super late to the party, but had to pop in and confirm that yes, the original script ended with the merchant at the beginning revealing himself to be the genie in disguise telling us the story.
It's not just you, but why does everyone confuse the shroud for his neck? It is fashionable headgear/ protection against the elements.
I think of how it is drawn I don't see the separation from his neck to the shroud
the merchant at the start is voiced by Robin Williams also.
I have a question. If someone said that same pussy cat line and looked like Aladdin would you still say “ew?”.
I personally wouldn’t like being called pussy cat even though I adore cats
The theory of the guy in the beginning is because Robin Williams voices both characters
Oh I didn’t even realize that
Good thing Aladdin and Jasmine had a kiss after the carpet ride otherwise Jafar would be her first kiss.
Omg I never thought of that so gross
30:01 her red outfit reminds me of the slave Leia outfit from return of the Jedi. 31:45-31:49 my reaction to jasmine 😚 Jafar: 🤮 34:03 😆 35:25 can’t wait to see you watch the last 2 sequels from Aladdin.
Lmao I’m glad you enjoyed it
@@LexisThoughts yes, I did. Also, I remember watching this movie many times, when I was a kid.
@@nathancruz9172 u must’ve loved it
@@LexisThoughts that’s my favorite movie from Disney Renaissance.
@@nathancruz9172 I can totally understand why
If Genie saw his live action self played by Will Smith I can him making the jaw drop faces again lmao Also Jafar has a regular neck. You see it when he takes off his beard. The other color is like a collar on his outfit.
Jafar caused gazeem to die and saw him as less than worthy and should of listen to the cave of wonders about the diamond in the rough and showed no remorse.
i ship Jasmine and Jaffar
No
I think that the live-action version of Aladdin (both the movie and the character) missed the warmth of the animated one.
Jafar was animated by andereas deja who worked on scar from the lion king and Gaston from beauty and the beast and lilo from lilo and stitch
I've never realized that he gave her a nickname and I wish I can unhear it now🤮🤮🤮🤮
Same here
The original Arabian nights was not offensive
How does this compare to the remake, which I'll _never ever_ watch.
I did a commentary video on the remake that I will post Tuesday
Yes i agree
@@LexisThoughts oh cool, looking forward to that.
what i didnt see the carpet in beauty and the beast. he was a great wing man
one day you should react to the aladdin sequels
i love aladdin 1992
I wonder if his baldness is why Jafar wears the huge hat all the time? Plus, if he's bald, but there's no evidence to point to chemotherapy or male pattern baldness, then how old is he? And he wants to marry Jasmine? For nefarious purposes, yes, but what made him think she'd ever want him, even if forced into marriage.
You still need to watch Aladdin jafar's Return and Aladdin the King of Thieves
OK, it annoys me a little that they keep putting the new is new Disney vanity plate instead of the one they actually had at the time in front of these.
you definitely should watch Cinderella 3
You should react to Mulan
I already did a video on that you could check it out on my channel
That’s not his neck
Jafar and Frollo join a club? How about they join a convent? No sex at all, let alone with people 40+ years younger than they are.
scar....
Jasmine is 15
wut
Shes 30y
Aladdin 42y
jeffer 200y
The father 101
Jeffer 🤢
You should hate the visor because he is evil not because he is old. Ageism like racism and homophobia has no place in our society. Quit going on about age because your ageism is showing.
Quit complaining and just watch the video
