    Belle is a lot of peoples favourite Princess, and you can see why. Not only is she as pretty as she is smart, she's adventurous, tough too, you saw her ready to take on those wolves? And knows how to outwit baffoon's like Geston while also possessing a great deal of kindness for the Beast, even when he does test her patiences a bit.

Jasmine took no ones crap and was quick to pick up on Alladin's "crazy person" act to throw out half her gloves, and Esmeralda's entire thing is having her whole self recognized as, not just a beauty to be obsessed over or a kind soul to be idealised. As for Meg, well she speaks for herself.

      @@Avenger85438 I was only looking at the official Disney Princess lineup but I will say Meg comes close if we count the unofficial. It’s her attitude that makes her fall short for me. Belle is unique to me because she’s strong by USING what are typically considered feminine traits like kindness and gentleness. This is what changes and attracts the beast. Jasmine comes close but falls just short because she’s much more sassy than Belle. Belle will stand up to others but only when she has to and is always polite to everyone. Don’t get me wrong, I love the other princesses but Belle just feels different to me.

    Beast is so animated with his feelings and character development that here he does not need a song like the one in the remake, we already feel his emotions. As someone who grew up on this movie and this is my favourite animation movie, the remake for me was all body no soul. I wanted to jump in and comment about Beast's voice actor real quick, since I didn't see anyone else comment on it after a quick look. Robbie Benson - Beast's voice actor - was actually mostly known for being soft-spoken and in teen heartthrob stuff. Disney was so concerned about this reputation (they worried people wouldn't take a beast voiced by a teen idol seriously) that they basically didn't reveal who it was until the movie released - including flat-out lying to press and saying that the beast hadn't been cast yet (despite that not being how animation works at all). It's wonderful that they cast his so well that you commented on it, but it's also hilarious that they were so worried about it about it that they basically hid him for the entire production.
    Thank you for this wonderful reaction. This has always been one of my favorite films, and it's great seeing people come to it (somewhat) fresh. Great work!

    The most likely explanation to the ten years thing, is that the Sorceress placed the whole castle in another dimension with slower moving time, so he was cursed as an adult at about 19, the time limit is at 21, but those two years stretch to ten because of the curse, so as to give him time to become polite. No one around knew about the enormous castle near their town, you need to get lost to arrive to it. It's worse in Sleeping Beauty, the girl sleeping a hundred years because of the curse. In one of my favorite Discworld books, Wyrd Sisters, the Lancre witches pull that off by sending the entire kingdom 15 years in the future, instead of sleeping everyone. And you are right, people were sort of weirded out by the Beast's human apparence, even if he's no bad looking. And the Sorceress was the worst, cursing all those people.

    The whole 'twenty-first year' business is often, I think, misinterpreted. Here's how I understand it: the curse says the rose will "bloom until his twenty-first year", and that it must be broken before "the last petal fell". It doesn't say that petal will fall ON his twenty-first year, just that the rose itself will remain perfectly fresh UNTIL then, at which point it starts, very slowly, to die. Remember, it's a MAGIC rose; the whole process can take as long as the Enchantress wants.
    So with that in mind, here's how I interpret the timeline: the Prince encountered the Enchantress when he was somewhere in his mid-teens - still pretty young by today's standards, but basically adult by those of the time (and he can't be much younger than that, because we saw him at the beginning. He was NOT eleven; he was teens, minimum). Let's say sixteen. That, if the "ten years" Lumiere quotes is accurate, would give him five years grace before the petals started to drop, and another five-ish by the time Belle comes into the picture. When he finally transforms back, he's about twenty-five or so. (This is my interpretation, anyway; I don't know if Disney has official stats or whatever on this.)
    Mind you, there's still a lot of weird stuff about the curse that is difficult to interpret - as you say, the whole 'Mrs. Potts' kids' business is kind of weird (have they been little kids for a decade now, unable to grow?), and then there's the whole 'what happened to all the NORMAL stoves/wardrobes/chandeliers/forks/etc.?' question, and - yeah. It kind of falls apart if you think about it too much. But hey, it's still a great movie, so one turns a blind eye.

    • @andreasusnik
      @andreasusnik 3 года назад

      I totally agree that is how I always saw it too.. like he was a teenager most likely which at the time was pretty much considered an adult anyway, and the rose would slowly begin to wilt and die some years after his 21st birthday. As for chip still being a kid; I saw it as all the people that have been turned into objects are in a sort of purgatory, where they don't age as they are technically not "living" things at the moment- which could be seen as maybe a nice thing the witch did so they wouldn't technically have lost any of their human years lol? The beast was the only one turned into a sort of animal so he's still ageing. And not every enchanted thing in the castle is actually a human, the curse just made some random stuff sentient for ambiance I think lol.

    • @Psycopathicus
      @Psycopathicus 3 года назад

      @@andreasusnik This is one of those cases where the waters have been muddied somewhat by the film's own success, and subsequent expansions on the story. I mean, If you just count the original, then, yeah; it's reasonable to assume that some stuff in the castle is just animated because of the curse, and had no prior existence as a human before that - it's very much like that in the original fairy tale. But then you get into all the spin-offs - the (at least) two sequels, the comics, the cameos the characters have in other Disney stuff, the brief (very brief - I think it was cancelled) live-action kid's show with Belle as the host, on and on. Each and every one of these features new characters and new backstories, and all of a sudden, EVERYTHING'S alive in this castle. The chandeliers are alive! Random implements are alive! Hairbrushes and Christmas tree ornaments and goodness knows what else, and they all have their own 'why, back when I was a human' sort of backstories either told or implied. All of this is technically canon with the original film (or Disney says that it is), so either you ignore all that, or you acknowledge it - and if you acknowledge it, you get the mental picture of the Prince striding back into his castle post-transformation, to be greeted by a HUGE crowd of happy people, in a castle that is basically just bare walls and floors and nothing else.

      @andreasusnik 3 года назад

      @@Psycopathicus haha I haven't seen any of the expansions on the story but I see what you mean, I feel the good thing about the original is that they kept so much of that stuff vague/undefined so you could just assume what made the most sense and not be distracted by how much doesn't fully add up lol!

    • @Psycopathicus
      @Psycopathicus 3 года назад

      @@andreasusnik Agreed - over-explaining things is somewhat of an issue with more recent films, I feel. Back in the day, they just plain did not care, most of the time, and we were better off for it - you had to figure this stuff out on your own, if you even wanted to in the first place. I mean, if you compare, say, 'Batman Begins' to the '89 'Batman', the former goes into so much detail about how everything Batman-related works and where it comes from. You learn how he gets every single gadget in the cage, and how each of them works - in detail. For something like 45 minutes. Meanwhile, 'Batman' is all like 'BAAAA! Batmobile! WHOOSH! Flames! It stop when he say 'stop'! He use a smoke bomb; it go boom! BOOMY-BOOM BOOM! He got a thingy that shoot a line! This is my favorite Disney movie! It was so cool seeing your reaction after you had only seen the remake. Emma Watson’s Belle has non of the sweetness that the original does. Fun fact: I saw that you noticed that Belle stands out in her blue dress; the only other character that wears blue in the movie is the beast during ballroom scene. You’re absolutely right that they interact a lot more in the animated version. That was one of my biggest complaints about the remake; that despite the movie literally being called Beauty and the Beast we didn’t see much interaction/chemistry between Belle and beast. If you’ve never listened to the soundtrack of Disney’s Broadway version, I would highly recommend it.

    I actually have a theory on how the enchantress might no be that cruel. Furniture don't age. At the very least not as fast as humans. And animals or rather beasts too. So maybe it may have been ten years but nobody aged. Which would mean that the enchantress could have cursed the castle when the beast was like twenty. Nobody aged despite ten years passing.

    • @LexisThoughts

    I'm glad you realised why people hated the remake. This movie has so much emotion and even the animation and the shots...so much effort and skill was put into it. Also Belle is my fav because she is strong but feminine. The remake stripped Belle of that as well as her subtle charm. I hope you watch more 2D from the golden era of Disney...they really have so much heart and so much more natural. None of the remakes hold a candle to the originals in my opinion. As for the Beast...his human form is handsome although maybe they should have made his hair darker. The problem is as a human he isn't as powerful and large...he also no longer has his Beast voice which had more character...but I still love the pairing :)

    I will say that the whole plucking feathers/servants losing body parts thing is made more confusing in the remake, since we see the piano shooting his keys at people and then missing teeth when he turns human again. That seems to confirm that each part of their enchanted bodies coincides with a part of their human bodies, but then we see Chip’s saucer break when the curse sets in and yet when he turns human again, he has his whole body. Shouldn’t he have been missing his legs???

    When he needs to rescue Belle and Maurice, what does he do? *Look for the biggest, sharpest thing he can find…* - he’s a typical child. It’s big and shiny, so it doesn’t matter if it’s dangerous.
    As for how old the Beast was - according to Lumiere in “Be Our Guest”, the Beast was *eleven* when he was cursed (“Ten years we’ve been rusting”).

Which I find to be plausible considering that Mrs. Potts & Chip can be seen in the “Trashin’ The Camp” scene in Tarzan. Plus, both the Beast and Tarzan are animated by the same animator, Glen Keane. Not to mention, if there’s one thing Belle and Jane have in common, other than having brown hair, they both have a thing for falling in love with unusual guys.
