Fun fact, Angela Lansbury was very hesitant to record the song Beauty and the Beast because it was in a style she had never sung before. When she ended up finally recording it, the song heard in the movie was her first take!! Crazy!

My understanding is that they had made two demos of the song -- one it which it was full-out sung, and another in which it was done "in character," as they expected Mrs. Potts to sing it in the film; but initially, they accidentally sent Angela the fully sung version. After she expressed her doubts about singing it, they realized their mistake and sent her the other demo. Once she'd heard it, she decided she could sing it after all.

This is probably my favorite 90s animated Disney film. The man who saved Disney in the late 80s was Howard Ashman. He came from off Broadway and was a lyrical genius. Disney asked him to come there and help save the animated films because Disney was not doing well with them. He said they needed to bring musicals back into their films and thus we got The Little Mermaid, Beauty and The Beast, Aladdin..etc.. Sadly, he died from AIDS before he could see Beauty and The Beast be finished. There's a beautiful documentary about him on Disney Plus. Thanks for reacting to this!

This story is symbolized in so many stories throughout history. That, just as you say, we must see the inner person, never focus entirely on how anyone looks. It's the heart & soul, your deeds, your dreams, your kindness, your sacrifices, that truly matter. Being shallow will never get you anything, nothing lasting. We all know this story one way or another, hence why they even sing in the title song "Tale as old as time." And now you know why Beauty & the Beast is regarded as the absolute best of the Disney classics + that it was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture! Still to this day the only animated film in movie history that can brag about that.
I strongly suggest you watch the live version as well. You want to see the enchantress? Now you will! So much of what was unspoken & perhaps even unclear, or even plot holes, were in my opinion far better handled in the live action version. It has a magnificent cast. And so many of the characters, lead as support, get more screen time, more development & therefor also make more sense in a lot of ways. Beast & Belle falling in love is explored more. The live action may not have quite as much of the charm but that is the beauty of animated films, they can be more charmingly cute as they should be. The live action is more dramatic, has a feeling of being more "realistic" & I like that the two versions are the same yet so different. All the songs are there + new ones. Since you loved this film you have to see its live counterpart & compare for us. I can't imagine you'll be disappointed by the later version, they both have their strengths.

    • @heyitsmira17
      @heyitsmira17 3 года назад

Finally a fan that praises both movies! What I like about the live action version is that it wasn't purely an adaptation, but it brought more information, songs and characters to the table. I can't tell you how many times I've listened to Evermore, Days in the Sun and How Does a Moment Last Forever?. Amazing songs that fit perfectly with the movie and I never knew I needed. I also liked how they connected Belle and Beast a bit more, them bonding over having another person to talk to (in the animated version, it's mostly Belle that felt like an outcast and wanted someone with the same interests, but in the movie Beast felt like it too), plus the backstories... I really loved it a lot, even if I'm a huge fan of the animated movie. Both have amazing strengths.

This is my dad’s favorite Disney film, I remember the first time he watched it, the ballroom scene got him teary eyed. At the end of the movie I asked why and he said he saw me as Belle. He said I’m beautiful and smart and he remembers me being teased as a child for loving books. I always loved the first song, about her love of reading and wanting “adventure in the great wide somewhere” and more than living in her small village, I always related to that. I’m now a literature teacher that loves to travel and this movie always holds a soft spot for my dad and I.

Lumière (the candlestick) was voiced by the late Jerry Orbach, one of the last bona fide leading men of the Broadway musical. He created roles such as El Gallo in "The Fantasticks" (1960), Billy Flynn in "Chicago" (1975-1977) and Julian Marsh in "42nd Street" (1980-1985). He gained worldwide fame for his starring role as NYPD Detective Lennie Briscoe on the original "Law & Order" TV series from 1992 to 2004.

And it was the 1st animated movie to win best picture (musical/comedy) at the Golden Globes. It also won Oscars & Golden Globes for best song and score, as well as multiple Grammys. Well deserved.

There's an extra song that's in the 2017 live action remake that Beast sang called "Evermore" where he set Belle free to see her father.
The song is Beast lamenting over how he is running out of time, that she may never come back at all. He is sure that he will stay a beast forever until he dies. He has accepted that he will die alone, dreaming she might come back. And he's glad that at least he got to meet her, and that it was possible that he could be loved by someone. He is surprised at himself that he was able to love someone so much, to set her free. She could make her own choices. He wasn't going to force her. He says he will never forget her, and will always keep a part of her with him in his heart. It's a beautiful piece, even if it's not that long, only 2 minutes. Probably my only favorite part of that remake.

The enchantress, the one that caused this curse is the real villain of this story.
She expected a rich, privileged prince of royalty to show empathy towards anyone of a lower class, and decides she should be the one to use God-like powers to punish him.
Idk why she felt she is so entitled to ruin so many people's lives just because one kid was being a brat.
Beast was angry, small-minded, awkward to talk to, and forces people to like him.
But he isn't an evil person.
He didn't need years of his life to be taken from him to learn to be more selfless.
And this enchantress never came back to check up on him. She basically sent all those servants to die as appliances, and Beast to live forever alone, and she didn't care.
I hate the enchantress, she is worse than Gaston. At least Gaston has friends, and is only a human.

Because in the beginning, beast doesn't deserve the love Belle could offer, he's not the nicest guy around. But gradually he realizes his shortcomings and begins to improve himself, which earns him the love of Belle in the end. It doesn't start as love, but it becomes that over time as he earns it. Belle was the first Disney heroine that knew what she wanted. She just didn't get that in the way she expected. She was brave, intelligent, and selfless. This story is one of the oldest stories in fairy tales and the most difficult to interpret. The voice of the Beast, Robby Benson, survived 4 open heart surgeries and was once in the running to play Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy. Jerry Orbach, Lumiere, was a big time actor on Broadway in his younger years. When he passed away, they turned all the lights on Broadway off in tribute to him. He wasn't called Mr. Broadway for nothing. Angela Lansbury, Mrs. Potts, based her character on a woman she knew back in England when she was younger. The supervising animators for Lumiere and Cogsworth couldn't stand each other. They weren't in the same room for this movie, because if they did, they would've likely killed each other. Glen Keane, the supervising animator of the Beast, created the look of the Beast when talking to a friend about what animal traits he wanted to use.

Robby Benson also started on Broadway as a child actor in the musical *The Rothschilds.* As an adult, he returned to Broadway, playing Frederick in *The Pirates of Penzance.* But I'll always remember him best for his heart-rending portrayal of a teenage drug addict in the tv movie *The Death of Richie* (1977).

The 2017 FRENCH version is my favorite. It is darker and exquisite. Pls watch to compare. It doesn't get enough notice because it came out the same year the live action did. I try to read and watch just about any version of Beauty and the Beast btw.

I always get emotional during that scene too. The simple yet deeply heartfelt way that Angela Lansbury sings can't be matched. The orchestration behind her vocals are gorgeous too. You take the strings out of it (I am looking at you live action) and it just isn't as impactful.

Beauty and the Beast was the first animated film to ever receive an Oscar nomination for Best Feature Film. It lost to Silence of the Lambs (also a great movie). Several other animated films would go on to be nominated as well including Up and Toy Story 3.

Howard Ashman (the song writer for this movie, The Little Mermaid, and Aladdin) actually was inspired by his own experiences as a gay man with AIDS when it came to The Beast's struggle with the way that society perceives him. There are a lot of LGBT-related themes in this movie that a lot of people miss because they don't know the context.

I love this movie. Its my all time favorite! But she wasn't in love with the beast just yet. She was starting fall in love to AFTER the beast let her go. She said he was her friend and that was the truth until she realized that she might lose him that she was able to tell him how she felt too. The beast didn't say that he loved her, to her, through I'm sure she felt something shift between them.

contrary to the common opinion I actually really like the live action remake. Would love for you to watch it. I think they added a lot more to the story and yeah maybe it has its flaws, but I didnt expect it to be the same or just as amazing as the animated movie. And if you see it separated from that it really is a good movie :)

I, too, fell in love with the Beast (at age 6, when the film was released, I saw it in theaters and have adored it above every other Disney film, ever since)....and was SO UPSET when he turns into this average, puny little pretty boy! I'm sorry but, if I were the Beast, I'd be pissed too. I wouldn't have moped about the castle all those years (BTW, dude is 20 years old. When I realized that, and then when I became OLDER THAN THE BEAST?!! I was just like....🤯🤯🤯) I mean, think about it: You no longer have any of the awesome animalistic powers or attributes that came with being "hideous" (okay, sure, if by hideous you mean bloody sexy as hell, fine). You can't roar like a lion, you can't throw your weight around like a Silverback gorilla so if your woman ever gets attacked by a pack of wolves again, you better hope you've got Gaston's arsenal and a few big ass hounds with you.... You can't LEAP UP AN ENTIRE FLIGHT OF STAIRS WTF DID YOU SEE WHEN HE DID THAT?? You're just...some bloke... With a shiny bright castle now instead of one that had better gothic decor but was, admittedly, falling into gradual but obvious disrepair. You're a prince, but you were still a prince in your Beast form (Beastmode lol). And think of how much smaller you are now, dude... And that's all over, like, the entire Beastly body you've become accustomed to over the past decade or so... Just let that sink in, guys.... Wilted rose, indeed.... So sad.
So, I say let the servants return to their human forms, let the castle remain dark but fixed up, good as new, heal the knife wound that douchebag Gaston inflicted (100% accurate assessment of that character, I chuckled every time you called him that, or a twat haha) but let dude and Belle decide if he should be allowed to keep his Beastmode (now with new and improved gentleness) or if he should be doomed to live the rest of his life as an average mo fo who looks like a femme Fabio. You know what I'm sayin....?
Also, the narrator is none other than Gimli from Lord of the Rings, our guy Sir John Rhys Davies 😉

This is from 3 months ago, but you got a HUGE subscribe from me. Your advice about love was so heartwarming. Love comes from the heart. Your heart identifies who you are. Your heart is not only there for living. It shows who you are. I'm comfortable of saying this, but I am gay and I got a lot of hate about it in school throughout all elementary to high school. One day I will meet my prince charming. Love your reactions! There are not enough people like you Auzzie. I'm looking forward to be watching more reactions from you!!!! :)

Since you enjoyed this version of the story I HIGHLY recommend checking out some of the other versions. I don't know if you enjoy reading but some of the older books on this story are just as good. There are a few different retellings of this story, one of which is much longer and more in depth, but they are all very good.

This came out when I was 5, and it is my favorite Disney Animated Canon movie and my 10th favorite film of all time. This was the first - and to date only - traditionally animated film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars (it lost to Silence of the Lambs).
While I will lukewarmly defend the remake as far as being a good technical achievement and the performers doing the best they can with the material they were given, on the whole that film is an offense to this one because in trying to "fix" percieved bad-faith criticisms of the original it creates all new true problems and misses the entire point of what makes this film truly magical.
