This is why I love this classic Sleeping Beauty movie instead of Maleficent. I loved the fairies, they had a purpose , the prince as well, and the two kings. And in Maleficent they were made out to be jokes or made out to be tyrants. And made Maleficent was made out to be anti-hero, she was the Mistress of Evil for a reason.

The two films are meant to be different. They don't have to be the same as they are two points of view and everybody can like what they like! I love both of them, but for different reasons, of course 😁
Edit: sry if that sounds like I'm hating. I promise I'm not trying to 😅

I despise what they did with the three good fairies in Maleficent. I grew up with these 3 good fairies and loved them so it was really disturbing to watch their characters destroyed in Maleficent.

One thing I love about Prince Phillip is how he's ready to straight up throw hands, as soon as the chains are off XD Don't even bother with the sword, he'll tear his enemies apart.
I hope you're feeling better soon, Dillon. Wishing you a strong recovery.

if you think about it.... the entire kingdom missed out on the most epic dragon battle ever! Phillip was a total badass, fighting off an angry horde of goblins, eluding the attacks of an evil sorceress, forged through a forest of thorns, and fought off a fire breathing dragon without hesitation to save Aurora.

The music for this soundtrack was adapted by composer George Bruns from Peter Tchaikovsky's classic ballet of Sleeping Beauty, and the result remains one of the most enchanting and mature scores in a Disney classic animation.
Themes like "Forbidden Mountain" and "Battle with the Forces of Evil" derive in full from the ballet score. 👍🏼

  • @mahega128

26:53 completely agree. Phillip will always take my # 1 top spot for Disney Princes. The man will follow his heart & is a total badass…he takes on a dragon for Aurora! The “14th century” line is a classic haha.
That finalé that starts at 31:58 *chills* is just amazing; it was so action packed & it came out in 1959!!!
Yeah the live action did him dirty (as well as the 3 fairies, another set of badasses). And also King Stephen! He was a cool dude wanting the best for his daughter but in the live-action made into a tyrant ugh. Not to mention, Phillip’s dad was put out of the picture :/
Also shout out to Aurora, she was going to sacrifice her love for duty as princess of the kingdom. And Maleficent is the definition of a VILLAIN here. Yeah this original film takes the cake.
This is a classic. I wish they made more 2-D animation Disney films nowadays.

The line when they throw the sword at the dragon was the first line I learnt from a movie as a child, and it was quite long for the little me back then: Ahora, espada de la verdad, vuela veloz y segura: que el mal perezca y que el bien prevalezca.
Of course it's in Spanish but there are a lot of complicated words in there. Thank you for the good memories!

5:31-6:00 I'm getting this weird throwback to when I was growing up in the 90's- I think there was a series of storybooks that came with cassette tapes that supplemented the book to add voices or music to the words? In this day, as an idea, you can always use a CD or digital versions of a soundtrack to bring life to a book you're reading with your kids that got adapted into a show/movie that soundtrack album is for. Or you can always make up your own "soundtrack" for the book!

    • @KSClaw
      @KSClaw 2 года назад +1

I grew up with those too! The funny thing is, I've just moved and when I was packing some things, I found a copy of Huckleberry Finn and Wind in the Willows, that I know both had accompanying tapes with them. I remember having one with Gulliver's travels too. (A lot of them used classical music for background too, which helped me grow to love what some would otherwise consider "boring" music.)

The way the good fairies treated Brier Rose (Aurora) brings up and interesting point. How is Aurora to be saved from Maleficent's curse a la true love's kiss, if by her 16th birthday (deadline, literally), she's never met a male human before? Technically, she's never met a human before, period. But she doesn't know that until the fairies are about to take her back to her family.

yeah, i wasn't a fan of maleficent, as Disney had always had maleficent as the mistress of all evil. She's supposed to be the baddest of the bad. Even in Kingdom hearts, she is...
the other live actions at least stuck to their stories better...
Maleficent was the scariest character to me as a child. like we had the audio cassette and anytime i heard her voice, i'd hide lol

I was thinking that maybe they have the Sleeping Beauty movie on audiobooks. You could play it for your kids. I know that I fall to sleep faster if I have a distraction for my mind to concentrate on and feed the images to my mind while it's being played out in my ears. Both mind and body wind down. Before you know it, they are passed out.
Here's another idea. Maybe you and them follow along with the book in front you while the audiobook is playing.
Great reaction, per usual. Thanks. I'm loving your channel and your intermediate thoughts. 🤗

What books are you referring to? The fairytale of Sleeping Beauty has existed for hundreds of years. The earliest known version was written in the 1300s, Disney mostly based their version on the Charles Perrault version originally published in 1697, and the Tchaikovsky ballet version of the fairytale from 1890. In fact they were so inspired they actually used Tchaikovsky’s music for the once upon a dream song. And maleficent was almost completely Disney’s invention. There was a spiteful fairy in some versions of the fairytale but even then her role was extremely minor. Maleficent was designed by animator Marc Davis and she was meant to be a personification of pure evil. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed angelina Jolies performance. But her version is much more watered down than how she was originally conceived.

In answer to some of your questions, even though Maleficent states that Aurora is in an ageless sleep, she did not orchestrate that condition. Her curse was to kill Aurora. Only Merryweather’s adjustment of Maleficent’s curse saved Aurora.
You also asked why Maleficent couldn’t magically find Aurora. Just as the good fairies have limits to their powers, I bet the same is true for Maleficent. All four characters are fairies, and line of sight to their targets seems to be necessary in their spell casting. If Maleficent didn’t know where Aurora was then neither could her magic. For example, even though she surrounds King Stephen’s castle with thorns, she is staring at it as she chants her curse. She glares at her goons when she blasts them with lightning. Maleficent is incredibly powerful but she does have limits and the same is true for the fairies.

Hey Tania, please pass this along to Dillon.
Now that you've watched this movie, you should totally read Anne Rice's very erotic Sleeping Beauty Trilogy (there's a fourth book, but she wrote that one after becoming a super-woke SJW puritan and it is absolutely TERRIBLE) as soon as possible. I'd like to see you do a video book review of each book.
Fun Fact: The running gag of Flora and Merryweather arguing about whether Aurora's dress should be pink or blue originated from the filmmakers' problem as to deciding just that.

But despite all this, however, Flora and Merryweather acted selfish about their color preferences and their selfishness and color duel over Aurora’s dress is the biggest reason why Maleficent’s Raven succeeded in finding the hideout. Goes to show that the fairies can unfortunately be quite reckless, as shown when they blatantly made two mistakes that ended up jeopardizing Aurora’s life and King Stefan’s kingdom. At least Phillip made up this mistake by killing Maleficent and save the whole kingdom, including Aurora, her parents, and King Hubert. Goes to show why Phillip is the only one with no corrupting factors and having less resources compared to the fairies.
